You can't be brave if you're not afraid, and just because he strives to be more brave doesn't mean he'll be any less afraid at the end of the show, just that he can overcome his anxiety for himself or his captain.

Here's my theory on how Blackbeard got two powers: 1.) He had a fruit next to whitebeard's body under the cloak and it became the new devil fruit and he ate it to absorb it. 2.) His devil fruit, the yami yami no mi, allows him to absorb anything and take it as his own once he is consumed in absolute darkness. 3.) Oda-sensai is going to prove my theory wrong with some plot convenience lol
My bet is on the second guess. The specifics of his fruit aren't really known, but in the fight against ace you can see him pulling things into himself. It could also be that when it's dark he gets special abilities, hence why his crew threw a sheet over whitebeard.

I think that the yami yami being the reason why he can consume two df would be more plot convenience that, for example, something in Blackbeard's body that allows him to naturally consume other fruits. Maybe the reason why needed the fruit to start his plan was because it's a great counter against other devil fruits, which Blackbeard seem to consider very important.

I always thought Blackbeard wanted to capture Luffy as bait for Ace. Ace apparently couldn't shut up about his kid brother while in the crew according to the account of Marco in Marineford, Blackbeard was Ace's subordinate, and he's probably sharp enough to figure out a match between Ace's description of Luffy and the man in question. Holding him hostage would be an easier way of capturing Ace compared to the risk of fighting him, certainly.
Personally i always thought that Blackbeard still wanted to capture Luffy after defeating Ace at Banaro Island, since the Marines wouldn't risk a massive war again Whitebeard just to execute one of his commanders and that they would refuse Blackbeard's offer for that reason, only for Ace to reveal to him to be Roger's son to protect Luffy, which could have convinced Teach since in this case the Marines would have consider worth the risk if its means destroy Roger's legacy.

Blackbeard will complete his Jolly Roger when he gets the last fruit, and his mentor, who I think is Shiki taught him about using this Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. The information Shiki had about level 6 reached Blackbeard and the information about the Orochi fruit (will) as well. I think the idea for Marshal D. Teach background was that his mentor was Shiki, blackbeard's plan (after catching the fruit of darkness) was to be able to heist Impel Down and recruit pirates AT LEVEL 6, BlackBeard only got a Shichibukai position (this position by itself is a great feat) to have "access" to Impel Down level 6, and it was revealed that Shiki was the only fugitive from level 6 in history. BlackBeard went straight to level 6 and that level is secret, no one outside the navy knows about it, and Blackbeard's that he would not have knowledge of. Blackbeard knew of this level because he was trained by the only pirate in history who escaped from there, the Shiki. Because of the movie with Shiki, I don't know if they'll keep this backgroud, but the black beard was certainly trained by someone close to Shiki, and he came to meet him, and receive information from level 6, which has many famous and strong pirates. Blackbeard has two reasons to attack Wano, Devil Fruit and Robin. The government, Big Mom and other pirates have an interest in Nico Robin, because nobody else can read the Ponyglyphs, not even the world government, if it was the case that WG knew how to translate but wanted to keep the secret, they would kill Robin instead of trying to capture her again. Marshal D. will try to "recruit" (Kidnap) Robin. I can't imagine any other way for Blackbeard to get the One Piece. The bets are that Blackbeard will attack Wano, and will take the last Devil Fruit (Zoan type). That's what Blackbeard meant when he said he wasn't going to let the navy have it all, he went to Wano.

What if all of the first members of blackbeard's crew are also sufferimg from some strange diseases like blackbeard? It may be mental or physical but we can clearly see that blackbeard has some bond with them for example Jesus being first commander even though we saw in dressrosa that he isn't really that strong. Teach wanted him to get a devil fruit so he can be stronger and still be the first yonkou commander. Later blackbeard focuses on getting as many strong criminals as possible but i think that his first crew mates mean something more to him.

A Porneglyph? An ancient Weapon? A new strong Crew-Member? Something entirely different? - What did they achieve by raiding Baltigo-Island? Some valuable informations about the WG? New weapons? - What is Kuzans role in all of this? I mean could he be really an ally of them? I don't think so, but it is a great mistery - What is so special about Blackbeard? He doesn't sleep, he could fight Shanks even without any DF, he seems to have read the Book about DFs (where, when?) etc... Also i really love Blackbeards new desing with the massive Beard. He looks way more like the real world Blackbeard. In my opinion Oda does a phenomonal job with the Blackbeard-Pirates and i can't wait to reach the Arc with them as the primary Antagonists.

I think Blackbeard has two secret brothers he hide under the cover of his devil fruit. There are multiple clues. I think one reason it seems he never sleeps is because one brother always is awake.
Something has always bothered me about Whitebeard's death, and it's something I haven't really seen addressed. With the caveat that it may have indeed been for time or something on Oda's part, it's as follows: None of the Blackbeard pirates attacked him in their specialized ways. Blackbeard himself didn't use the claws that injured Shanks, nor most of his hand to hand after the initial naginata slash. Burgess didn't use his knives or strongman muscles. Shiryu didn't use the katana he totes around everywhere, Van Auger didn't use his rifle, which would be substantially more damaging than a hand pistol and he's proven he can use mighty quickly. So on and so forth, you get the point. They all used... pistols. Seemingly plain pistols, with ammunition that could be expended; Blackbeard at one point demands another of them to keep shooting, but the rest think Whitebeard's dead and it'd be a waste. In an arc that showed so very many Marines' pointless, but colorful, attacks on the Yonko, and the Admirals' various powers, why did the crew /not/ use their very best if they thought they were in true and legitimate danger from the dying man? Heck, their actual giant Sanjuan Wolf just stood there giggling, and Blackbeard kept getting up and laughing as well between moments of dread on his face. It's not something I expect I can ever prove, but I think Blackbeard may have been hyping up Whitebeard's abilities and downplaying those of his own, as a showman, to make the display grander- knowing the world was watching, he planned out both the execution, and a 'david and goliath' approach to make it seem like a more hazardous victory than it really was.
I wonder if blackbeard knows fate exists. Perhaps the D means Destiny in that they will die a death that will impact the world and fate won't let them die beforehand. Though that would make luffy's feats less impressive so hopefully not..

I know no one will see this but actually the lowest Bounty actually goes to Blackbeard himself. In the entire series because at one point he had a bounty of 0. My guess as to why is probably because the WG thought him no threat while he was on Whitebeards crew. Similarly to how Chopper has an extraordinary bounty of 50.

Here's my theory on how Blackbeard got two powers: 1.) He had a fruit next to whitebeard's body under the cloak and it became the new devil fruit and he ate it to absorb it. 2.) His devil fruit, the yami yami no mi, allows him to absorb anything and take it as his own once he is consumed in absolute darkness. 3.) Oda-sensai is going to prove my theory wrong with some plot convenience lol
My bet is on the second guess. The specifics of his fruit aren't really known, but in the fight against ace you can see him pulling things into himself. It could also be that when it's dark he gets special abilities, hence why his crew threw a sheet over whitebeard.

I think that the yami yami being the reason why he can consume two df would be more plot convenience that, for example, something in Blackbeard's body that allows him to naturally consume other fruits. Maybe the reason why needed the fruit to start his plan was because it's a great counter against other devil fruits, which Blackbeard seem to consider very important.

I always thought Blackbeard wanted to capture Luffy as bait for Ace. Ace apparently couldn't shut up about his kid brother while in the crew according to the account of Marco in Marineford, Blackbeard was Ace's subordinate, and he's probably sharp enough to figure out a match between Ace's description of Luffy and the man in question. Holding him hostage would be an easier way of capturing Ace compared to the risk of fighting him, certainly.
Personally i always thought that Blackbeard still wanted to capture Luffy after defeating Ace at Banaro Island, since the Marines wouldn't risk a massive war again Whitebeard just to execute one of his commanders and that they would refuse Blackbeard's offer for that reason, only for Ace to reveal to him to be Roger's son to protect Luffy, which could have convinced Teach since in this case the Marines would have consider worth the risk if its means destroy Roger's legacy.
Blackbeard dont hold a grudge against Ace or wanna capture him, he just looking for a man worth more than 100 millions. He capture the guy and the Gov recognize him as Seven Warlord..

Blackbeard Theories: An Explanation for the 3 Skulls and 4 Crossbones
Chapter 225 or Episode 147, after Blackbeard's speech, Nami ask "Who is He (Teach)"? Luffy tells Nami, that "It's not him", and Zoro complements "It's them". This is an indication that Marshal D. Teach is more than one person in the same body. Marshall D. Teach is 3 people combined and the 3 Skulls in his Jolly Roger of Black Beard is an indication of that. I think a combination of akumas no mi users, "joined" three people and created Marshall D. Teach. There is already in One Piece some akuma no mi that can "joined" people (Ope Ope no Mi, Gocha Gocha no Mi, Baku Baku no Mi) maybe in the past there was a more experienced user of some of these fruits, or it may have been a new type of fruit that "joined" these people together, and Blackbeard discovered that he could separate with the use of the Yami Yami no mi (denying the power of the Akumas no Mi apply on him), this may have been one of the factors in which he has no alternative but to eat this akuma no mi first.
Chapter 577 or Episode 486 In Marinford Marshall D. Teach managed to separate himself temporarily from other people and got the second fruit power, the WhiteBeard Akuma no Mi (that's why he covered Newgate's body, to hide him separating). This would give a margin to explain the would explain his teeth changing all the time. He can combine the 3 sets of teeth (bottom) with the 3 sets of teeth (top) in different ways. Like BlackBeard did in Chapter 577 or Episode 486 with the combining powers of the Gura Gura no Mi, in one hand, and the powers of the Yami Yami no Mi, in the other hand, at the Arch of Marineford.
I think this transformation of body parts has a mechanism similar to the Mane Mane no Mi. Marshall D. Teach can only swap body parts with the other two people who are parts of him. In chapter 187 or Episode 115: Bon Clay makes a montage with parts of the face, taking Ussop's Nose and the rest of his own face. Buggy has an akuma no mi that rearranges some parts of his own body, Law rearranges people's bodies on several occasions as well. I think the mechanism for exchanging body parts is the same as for Blackbeard, there are 3 people and they swap parts.
That would explain the 3 skulls on Blackbeard's crew flag, but another detail of his Jolly Roger is having 4 crossbones, and that is a Oda’s foreshadowing for Blackbeard's Next Devil Fruit: Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi. Each tip indicates a head of the Orochi.
Chapter 965 or Episode 965, Kurozumi Higurashi, the former user of Mane Mane no Mi, says she left the island of Wano (was chased) and that she came into contact with several people, and end up getting the Devil Fruit Orochi. While demonstrating the powers of her own Devil Fruit she transforms into SHIKI. Either she stole the fruit or Shiki gave the fruit to her, but either way Shiki has information that Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Yamata no Orochi is in Wano. Blackbeard will complete his Jolly Roger when he gets the last fruit, and his mentor, who I think is Shiki taught him about using this Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. The information Shiki had about level 6 reached Blackbeard and the information about the Orochi fruit (will) as well.
I think the idea for Marshal D. Teach background was that his mentor was Shiki, blackbeard's plan (after catching the fruit of darkness) was to be able to heist Impel Down and recruit pirates AT LEVEL 6, BlackBeard only got a Shichibukai position (this position by itself is a great feat) to have "access" to Impel Down level 6, and it was revealed that Shiki was the only fugitive from level 6 in history. BlackBeard went straight to level 6 and that level is secret, no one outside the navy knows about it, and Blackbeard's that he would not have knowledge of. Blackbeard knew of this level because he was trained by the only pirate in history who escaped from there, the Shiki. Because of the movie with Shiki, I don't know if they'll keep this backgroud, but the black beard was certainly trained by someone close to Shiki, and he came to meet him, and receive information from level 6, which has many famous and strong pirates.
Blackbeard has two reasons to attack Wano, Devil Fruit and Robin. The government, Big Mom and other pirates have an interest in Nico Robin, because nobody else can read the Ponyglyphs, not even the world government, if it was the case that WG knew how to translate but wanted to keep the secret, they would kill Robin instead of trying to capture her again. Marshal D. will try to "recruit" (Kidnap) Robin. I can't imagine any other way for Blackbeard to get the One Piece. The bets are that Blackbeard will attack Wano, and will take the last Devil Fruit (Zoan type). That's what Blackbeard meant when he said he wasn't going to let the navy have it all, he went to Wano.

What if all of the first members of blackbeard's crew are also sufferimg from some strange diseases like blackbeard? It may be mental or physical but we can clearly see that blackbeard has some bond with them for example Jesus being first commander even though we saw in dressrosa that he isn't really that strong. Teach wanted him to get a devil fruit so he can be stronger and still be the first yonkou commander. Later blackbeard focuses on getting as many strong criminals as possible but i think that his first crew mates mean something more to him.

- What is the connection between Blackbeard and Xebec? Is he his son? Does he just admire him?
- The backgrounds from nearly every member of them, but i personally are extremely interested in Pizarro, Devon, Shot, Wolf and Doc Q.
- What do they want to get before the Navy does? A Porneglyph? An ancient Weapon? A new strong Crew-Member? Something entirely different?
- What did they achieve by raiding Baltigo-Island? Some valuable informations about the WG? New weapons?
- What is Kuzans role in all of this? I mean could he be really an ally of them? I don't think so, but it is a great mistery
- What is so special about Blackbeard? He doesn't sleep, he could fight Shanks even without any DF, he seems to have read the Book about DFs (where, when?) etc...
Also i really love Blackbeards new desing with the massive Beard. He looks way more like the real world Blackbeard.
In my opinion Oda does a phenomonal job with the Blackbeard-Pirates and i can't wait to reach the Arc with them as the primary Antagonists.

They all seem very intriguing, with Sanjuan Wolf's Size devil fruit, Vasco Shot's possible connection to Jinbei, Pizarro's connection to Kaido and his weird gauntlets and Devon's mythical Joan devil fruit. Personally I find them all really cool.

I don't think it was that simple with the former guardian Shiryu. I suspect something else is at play here. There's no way that Blackbeard and his crew would just watch Magellan kill them. The guy basically got a nullification of any devil fruit, he could've used it to nullify Magellan's poison or protect them any other way. Instead, they were lying there like idiots suffocating. Blackbeard may come off as a typical dumb pirate but he's cunning, shrewd, and farsighted. C'mon, would he really try to infiltrate Impel Down while not giving any thought about it's freaking guardian, Magellan? He may have been aware of Shiryu too because he only "employs" strong lads and he clearly knew that he's not a simpleton swordsman.

I think Blackbeard has two secret brothers he hide under the cover of his devil fruit. There are multiple clues. I think one reason it seems he never sleeps is because one brother always is awake.

Something has always bothered me about Whitebeard's death, and it's something I haven't really seen addressed. With the caveat that it may have indeed been for time or something on Oda's part, it's as follows:
None of the Blackbeard pirates attacked him in their specialized ways.
Blackbeard himself didn't use the claws that injured Shanks, nor most of his hand to hand after the initial naginata slash. Burgess didn't use his knives or strongman muscles. Shiryu didn't use the katana he totes around everywhere, Van Auger didn't use his rifle, which would be substantially more damaging than a hand pistol and he's proven he can use mighty quickly. So on and so forth, you get the point.
They all used... pistols. Seemingly plain pistols, with ammunition that could be expended; Blackbeard at one point demands another of them to keep shooting, but the rest think Whitebeard's dead and it'd be a waste.
In an arc that showed so very many Marines' pointless, but colorful, attacks on the Yonko, and the Admirals' various powers, why did the crew /not/ use their very best if they thought they were in true and legitimate danger from the dying man? Heck, their actual giant Sanjuan Wolf just stood there giggling, and Blackbeard kept getting up and laughing as well between moments of dread on his face.
It's not something I expect I can ever prove, but I think Blackbeard may have been hyping up Whitebeard's abilities and downplaying those of his own, as a showman, to make the display grander- knowing the world was watching, he planned out both the execution, and a 'david and goliath' approach to make it seem like a more hazardous victory than it really was.

My guess as to why is probably because the WG thought him no threat while he was on Whitebeards crew. Similarly to how Chopper has an extraordinary bounty of 50.
