I love how all the footage of the Vanagon are of it pummeling through corners like a bat out of hell.

just picked a 1985 vanagon that i'm gonna turn into a homebrew camper. this rig is a dream to drive and sturdy as hell.
This add shows the Pacific Grove post office behind the Vanagon when parking, and the Vanagon driving in parts of Pebble Beach as well.
We have a 1986 Syncro that is our daily driver. Awsome vehicle.
I just picked up a 1984 and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Few do exist that rely only on good old "Gears & Oil"
The strategy is to develop a depolluted kit for these vehicles that will fit on WasserBoxer and also on VW Diesel engines running without any of the computerised technology.

@sgtpepper1138 If you have the cash its the way to go. Only 1500 were imported into the US, though they were made over seas up till a few years ago. For a fully restored sycro camper (the BOMB) expect to pay between 50-90k. I have a 90 westy and I love it. I will be adding a locking rear diff (its 2wd) You would be amazed where you can get off road in a 2wd. Anyway, I love it, we have been from Main to CA in it and camp year round with the kids!
They did in many other places ^^, I have a friend who lives in Brazil and he says they haven't changed from Air Cooled since their climate is much different than ours and found that Air cooled design is far better in their climate.

Here's a first - a Vanagon passing a 930 Turbo in the fast lane (8:44). Well, maybe the 2.1 is robust and strong after all. Just forget about the part about the 930 being blocked by the 80's Cougar. :)

@definca I've been looking at buying a VW (bus or vanagon). My brother has a 62 VW truck (pink and grey that you can see from a mile away) and i'd really like to find a syncro to go offroad with (plus when it snows the 4wd would come in handy) I think they look really cool.
I also have 1992 Syncro Reimo. Strange is that they put in the ABS, but I do not have power steering.
Well to be honest they still make Volkswagen buses like these in places like brazil and india such as hot and dry climates because they last much longer than cars with radiators.

Xd Even air cooled engines have thermostats on them , At least the pancake engine does which is what my bus has. To find the Thermostat look below the engine you will see a disc looking device with a wire attached to it that is the thermostat. But mine is a 1974 model others vary.
This is why the newest car I will ever bye won't be older than 1984 from that point on all car and trucks are just computers on weels and you can't work on them 1 word "plastic"
i wish i could drive, just need to take the learners test, there is someone nearby who is selling one of these in brown, and it has a turbo :D
Ohh and if you have a 74 model and you need help with trouble shooting or replacing of parts i might be able to help you since i have the Haynes vw transporter automotive repair manual for years 1972 - 1979.
