I just spent six months outside in the snow and rain working on my first westy (84 1.9) and spring springing, and your new upload just got me so excited to finally use the thing!
@@ThatBaldwinLife since I’ve never had a vanagon before it was a lot of looking at the Bentley and figuring out misfires (thought it was stuck lifter, turns out there was a slice in the intake boot) welding panels in, new gas tank and vapor tanks, new ignition lock and switch, new shift linkage, cooling system flush (almost impossible to get all the gunk outta that system) about 1 million miles of unused wiring from the AC cabinet… you name it man. I’m still so anxious when I drive it. I’ve even got a whole closet full of parts with us at all times haha 😂
Nice work! The more you drive it, the more confident you will get in taking it to remote areas. It may take some time to work through all the kinks, but you'll have great adventures getting there! We have a ton of spares and I still wouldn't mind having more sometimes! nate
I must say you did a wonderful job editing that story. Love the cutaways and especially the drone footage. My wife and I spent two months in the Olympics in our '86 Westy and this video reminds of that trip.
Another great video. Only been out once this year in my 73 Westy. Still working on my 83 1/2 Westy. Hopefully soon some adventures of my own. Take care and best wishes.
@@ThatBaldwinLife it sat for over 10 years before I bought it last fall. Pretty much going over everything. New radiator, water pump, thermostat, coolant and hoses. Going through the brakes, etc... Needs new canvas. Rebuilt and rejetted the carbs on the 73. Adventure time awaits.
What fridge do you have? I’m considering getting rid of mine since I always have to carry a cooler to carry enough food anyway. Yours looks like it has a lot more space.
It is a TruckFridge 65 quart unit. We had an ARB fridge for a while but it took up so much space on the floor. We did an install video for the TF65 if you look under our How To section. Thanks! Nate
Our Westy is 2wd. Like any old car, make sure you know what you’re getting into and an owner with good records can save some headaches. I like the 1987-1991 for the 2.1L engine and grey interior better than the 86 and older. Good luck! Nate
Hello, my friend, I live in North Africa I also have a Volkswagen T3, but it is worn out. I will start repairing it, and then the next destination is Europe. This is my dream. I have a friend named Muhammad Jamal Talib, and he is a TH-camr who took this trip before me. He really took a risk. If you want, I will give you the address of his video and give me your opinion.
Thanks. They do come in automatic in gasoline only. The diesel vans are all manual shift. They are as reliable as you make them. If they have been taken care of the past 40 years, you're off to a good start. But you do need to keep up on maintenance and know quite a bit about car repair if you want to venture far off the beaten path. nate

Awesome! What all did you do to it? Any big adventures planned?

Fun in Oregon/ ya never know here in the spring time (weather) 😂
For sure! We were hoping to get up higher on the mountain but guess we will have to wait a few more months.

I’m glad you have good brakes! Let me know when you make it to Chicago.
We have excellent brakes and needed them going down that hill!

Hang onto that woman. She’s a keeper.
I’ve been looking at the ARB awning with the extra front cover. Looks killer for rain.
Nancy is the best! Awing's are so nice in all weather, so much more usable room

Thanks Chuck. What are you doing to the 83? Weather's getting nicer, time to take the old 73 out on some adventures!

Is your Westy a 2WD or a Synco? Man that is a capable van. I am looking to purchase one. Any advise?

What engine do you have in your Vanagon? That definitely doesn't sound like a WBX?
Yea it is a 2.2L WBX built by Rocky Jennings. Ratio rockers, cam, etc with a GoWesty exhaust.
Nate
Were there bears?
No bears in that part of the coast range
Is that a Synchro? Sorry newbie here
Our Westy is a 2wd, thanks for watching!!
