    I watched this movie not long ago with my mum, we both thought it was quite well, it had some inaccuracies but it made up for it with being more thrilling than Britannic - it was interesting to see Turner in court after the sinking but I still found it enjoyable, however- I think we need to see more of Lusitania herself as that of course would just make it better than the camera shaking violently and unnecessary close-ups, Titanic did it right (not with the romance) it showed the ship sinking a lot and is great with action. I found it to be a 7/10 It is a great film if you don’t know much about her, but if you are a salty hard-core genius, you can complain away!

    Considering it took about 50 years of Titanic movies for only two of them to be good, it is difficult to fully capture a well told tale of a historical disaster. This was the first film on Lusitania, and it came out as surprisingly decent. I do wish that there were more shots of the ship sinking and some more creative cinematography so the film wouldn't feel so basic, but all in all, its a simple, straightforward movie, and it makes the best of what it's given. It's also one of my favorite John Hannah movies. The captain is definitely the best character of this film.
    Also the Britannic movie sucked

    The U-boat model, full size replica and set were originally used in Das Boot, which explains why the sub looks like a WW2 U-boat. It was made to look that way to begin with.

    I did enjoy the movie for it being low budget and at least trying to be a docudrama. I like how they portrayed Dr. Ian and how he interacted with the other passengers.

    I think the lunch scene is actually set in the lounge, as it appears by the set. It could be some sort of afternoon tea style setup, not in the main dining room. The elevator area is confusing. It might be based on Mauretania's grand staircase, bar the staircase itself. ( which might be in that unseen area behind those wooden archways???)

    If I had to direct a movie with a U-boat from WW1 in it, I would go to Germany, film the interior scenes inside of SM U-1 if possible, and get reference photos of WW1 U-boats to model after.

    I used to really think it was a hidden gem. After rewatching, its ok. Still enjoyable, but I wouldn’t call it completely accurate. There are some thjngs that aren’t accurate, ok actually SEVERAL things, but it’s decently well researched, and it’s obviously not as high of a budget of any professional film like James Cameron’s Titanic, but for a tv film, it’s pretty good for a film, it’s ok. Just ok. I’ve also grown as a person, and feel like I can relate to more peoples opinions. I think one of the things holding this film back, are the fact that it tries to be a documentary And a film at the same time, so its very inconsistent at times, and I feel this takes away from the overall experience. Another CRAZY inaccuracy, is that U20’s captain, didn’t actually know which ship it was coming out of the fog, and it was originally thought to be 2 ships, until visibility was a bit better, they still didn’t know what ship it was, but knew it could have been 1 of 5. Like you said, and I have mentioned, the documentary format limits the character development, and there isn’t really any except for the U20’s one crew member. Final verdict, if this movie had more budget, and better sets, wasn’t limited by the documentary part, and was released as a full film, it probably would’ve been very good, but unfortunately, the world we live in, is the world we live in, and even the smallest things like a movie can’t be changed. I hope a full fledged Lusitania film eventually comes out, as unlikely as that will be, but I hope it does, anyway, the movie is ok. Just ok.

    I honestly wish that the Britannic movie should’ve been an “adaptation” of Erik Larson’s book on the Lusitania, Dead Wake. It has the same kind of thriller aspect, and it could be done great if you write it well and get the right people.

    A good critique. I wish they had cast someone who looked like Turner and had a scouse accent or could fake it. We could have done without the elevator scene ask it most likely never happened. The bellboys actually parked the elevator cars and survived. I looked forward to this film but was largely disappointed.

    Honestly, the Lusitania’s First Class settings in this 2007 TV-film, like the Dining Saloon or the Lounge were incorrect and it was interesting to see the sets as it was cheaply designed for the film. I enjoy this 2007 TV-film, but I seriously wish LUSITANIA was going to be made as a Hollywood/British motion picture and for LUSITANIA to become more successful than James Cameron’s TITANIC!
    I want LUSITANIA to be more successful and that LUSITANIA will remain popular with us all in this 21st century!

    I kinda agree. But I put docu dramas in a different category than an actual movie. I think this was way better than the Britannic movie which is almost animated Titanic movie levels of horrible but it's obviously not James Cameron Titanic levels of good either. It's a television docudrama and as such I have a low bar of expectations and I am just grateful and pleasantly surprised that it has characters who speak and act like real people and shots and action sequences that are at least trying to be believable and they actually tell the real story ( unlike Britannic) in a drama format without cutting to some professor or historian or author every 30 seconds. I can honestly say that I find the Titanic Honor and Glory real time sinking sequences and exploring the ship model more fun , informative, and compelling than the Britannic movie and this one... But at least this one is trying to be entertaining and historically grounded in facts.
    But I'm the type of Titanic in particular but all ships enthusiast that I am of the controversial opinion that James Cameron should have done a trilogy of 3 hour movies with part 1 showing the voyage from Southampton to sunset of the 14th showing the grandeur, opulence ,and beauty of the ship as well as introduce all the characters , show the New York incident in Southampton harbor, and explore the ship and it's daily life and through drama get to know our characters and the world they live in , part 2 being a real time sinking movie along the lines of A Night To Remember starting 10 minutes before collision and ending with a close up shot of collapsible B capsized in the water and the group of survivors gatherd on it, and part 3 being the Carpathia rescue and courtroom drama of the inquiries and the aftermath. That in my opinion would have been a far better use of that set and cast ... But I'm just nitpicking and want that trilogy .
    For real though I do think that Lusitanias last voyage deserves a real movie that is James Camerons Titanic quality. I'd love to see an accurate and well done Britannic movie as well and make it a war story that stands on its own and isn't trying to be a Titanic rip off. Although I will say reluctantly as a shipwreck enthusiast that I don't believe that the Empress of Ireland sinking would make for a good movie. That is too tragic and there isn't really any time on the voyage to build up a story because it just sank too quickly and too soon into the voyage to really make a compelling movie about it .

    Lusitanias sinking in this film is also inaccurate , she sank with her masts and funnels the last thing visible of her before she went below , but here it’s kind of like the titanic if it didnt break apart

    • @titan-1802
      @titan-1802 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That, and the misconception that her funnel's were painted black also made it into the film, whereas in real life, Lusitania's funnel's were still red when she sank.
      Though, we safely say that the misconception started due to the fact that most camera's at the time were not capable of producing colored images. Which would explain why Lusitania's funnels appeared entirely black in most photos of her.
