    A solid and just review. Offline mode or ability to host servers (accessibility for those playing in other parts of the world), Quality of life for crafting (it's tedious and not enjoyable currently), combat is clunky and feels like more of an annoyance than engaging. Loving the building system. A little polish and refinement and it has the potential of being top tier survival fantasy. The tutorial feels like it could be a bit more exciting since it's forced upon you.
    I won't be getting a refund for this game or leaving a negative review because I really want this game to succeed. I will be trying to give constructive criticism though in hopes that it could help development. This game has so much potential and I'd hate to see it go to waste.

    i find it fascinating how developers think ... or atleast for this game... they stress tested the damn game ... and didn't find issues? ... either way... it's so much reinventing the wheel that i just get dizzy playing the game.

      It's wild to me that the quality of life and combat made it to the EA release as it is currently. The online server thing I get that they had a vision and went for it - doesn't work and they've announced they'll add offline mode asap which is good - but the quality of life stuff is crazy that it didn't get picked up in testing

    Good review - my only disagreement is about the character visuals...while they may look a bit, let's say, odd, I appreciate the realistic approach, rendering more humane faces rather than "heroic" stereotypes.

    No chest crafting in 2024? My first exposure was in Sandrock and from that point on it was a must. In my own crafting system the only addition was a toggle on each container, to decide if they are part of the "network" (I like to have some safe storage where I don't accidentally craft away stuff I wanted to keep for later). Sure, it adds some logic: which container to take stuff from (the one that has the least to free up slots), which one to put it in when auto-crafting (the one which has the most, but topping up stacks first). And sure, you have stupid issues where one crafting stations uses up all the material and the others "starve" (round robin is your friend).
    I hope they will add that sooner rather than later.

    • @WilstormGaming

      They've already stated they are making abunch of QOL changes ASAP and I'm sure that will be at the top of the list.

    Have to say I disagree with your problems that cause you to say this game has a "bumpy" start, lets start off with it is not a full release game yet and is still in development. The server issues at launch have been an issue for almost every semi popular game for years now. Even AAA titles have had this issue and once things calmed down and regulated I have had no issues with server lag or being kicked for over a day now. The rest of your complaints are with basic game mechanics that you personally dont like about crafting and chatacter creation. The crafting is fun and more in depth than other games and I so far enjoy it. Not having a que for work stations is annoying but I dont mind since it makes you be active around base keeping track of different stations instead of standing in one spot waiting while you text on your phone to kill time. I am playing a game to be immersed in it. Crafting from storage is a luxury some games have but is not needed. I love having organized storage and fetching things right away because I know where I put them instead of a junk box that auto grabs from it. As for character creation I did think some character models are weird and funny but it fits very well with the games style. Also the minor details you can do in the creation is insane already. I spent over 20 minutes doing my family tree and the details on the eyes and face without realizing I was spending more time on character creation than I had in the whole game so far enjoying it. Combat is a little clunky but I would say solid for an early release game. Nothing over complicated but still feels satisfying when you land criticals or dodge correctly. This is more of a minor personal preferences rant than about actual gameplay and story that misleads others from playing the game due to your personal preferences. Only major issue you stated was connection issues which a majority of people have been fixed for including myself. If you still have issue wait for the early access with offiline mode available, its only early access and only people who condemn a game this early for a single issue thats not an issue for most players anymore are just not appreciating what early access titles really are. They didnt have to release the game yet to let fans play and enjoy their creations as they build upon it and even take feedback from us, but they did and to expect a perfect game is unrealistic. If you have issues go play the AAAA Skull and bones full release thats online and such a perfect complete game. (Worse game release this year and I was so dissapointed in it and yet they stand by their quad A title) Just my opinion, the game has a good story and magical worlds that will only get better as they get closer to a 1.0 full release.

    Even though the game has some blatant problems, most of them are very fixable. I would say the crafting and UI are my main complaint because thats what I found the most tedious and annoying. Pretty much nailed it. Nightingale makes me wish the steam refund policy was a little more lenient. I was very excited for it but its been pretty disappointing so far. I think it's maybe been in development too long and in the meantime other games have come out that just do a better job. After putting 100+ hours into Enshrouded, Nightingale just doesn't feel good. I can't even get the antiquarian card because of how terrible the combat is on my system. Really hope they can fix things quickly to bring it up to par with other games that jave come out recently.

    I have the same feeling of not wanting to continue after about 10 hours. Crafting is overly complicated and tedious, I dont want to have to use 4 different benches to make a tool or a piece of gear. Combat is clunky and boring. Essence grind is terrible and repetitive doing the puzzles and occupations over and over. Gear score system was just a bad idea compared to levels and exp. I thought the realms would be bigger, nope just small bubble maps. Online only doesnt bother me since im in the US but i feel bad for others with connection issues. I think the graphics and art style is nice but yea the game is just not good. I remember a dev blog saying the game was delayed because the testers literally said it was too boring with no sense of direction lol. (Foreshadowing) Tried to return it but was over the 2 hour mark.

Letting people host their own servers unlocks a whole host of issues to deal with, and allowing characters to go back and forth from online mode is a nightmare. Glad they're doing it, but not unreasonable that they didn't start out with that capability. It reminds me a lot of the launch of Icarus. It sounds like they didn't do the math. The reason why they only have two servers is because running online infrastructure is EXPENSIVE. And 30 bucks per player won't get them super far. They will eventually have to charge a monthly sub or introduce an offline mode to not burn through their money quickly.

    gotta say, i have to disagree with most of this. i also played since day one, never had an issue with the servers, never had an issue with "no chest crafting" because you literally can craft one and you get an upgrade for one very early as long as you follow the story a tiny bit. the so called "core gameplay loop" is vastly different as you progress, making it more linear than a loop. the freindly AI are great, you just had a bad time with ping. Crafting does pull from storage, that being your recruit does it for you and finishes blueprints. forced sorting can be turned off with the big button in the inventory. all profiles are highly customizable to make them look good.

    • @nacaicon1593
      @nacaicon1593 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Think you need to rewatch the video.
      The 'no chest crafting' means no crafting from chests. I'm 20 hours in and unlocked Gloom, there is no smart chests that I am aware of.
      Friendly AI are trash. They are useful distraction and pack mule, and that's it in my experience.
      The video already stated the buildings and blueprints were done well, and that the actual crafting might have benefited from emulating it.
      Forced sorting cannot be turned off. There is a button to cycle between 7 different methods of sorting, but not Off.
      I will also add that I think the characters look fine. They suit the art style.
      And that there is no smart stacking. Having played a ton of Palworld and Enshrouded recently, the no smart stacking killed me as much as the no smart chests.
      I do think the game is fun but the early game is too slow imo. The combat is surprisingly satisfying with how simple it is, but I haven't had any server issues so I can only imagine how unplayable it is otherwise.

    Tbf it is early access. The entire point of early access is "play our game but it isn't finished". The issue is when all these problems happen on a full release game.

    • @KhaledIron
      @KhaledIron 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The majority of hate stems from the fact the game requires you to play on a server regardless if you're playing singleplayer or not. And I doubt they'll change that tbh, the bugs I encountered were understandable

    • @SideFlame
      @SideFlame 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nah, the point of early access is that they want to sell you an unfinished game and then maybe only finish it if it's successful. They're still going all out with marketing and sponsoring streamers to play their game. Why would they do that for an unfinished product? Surely a passionate studio that cares about their game would save their marketing money for once the game is finished, and not fizzle out player interest during the first version of early access? It's just yet another overpromised survival game that will stay unfinished and eventually shut down its servers.

    • @jambononi
      @jambononi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SideFlame but that just doesn't work. I completely understand your point if you were talking about a huge developer for a AAA game. But the reality is the exponential cost of improving on a game is probably where most of the cost is sunk. Another point is the early access feature does exist. And I know there's some cynical developers out there but if you think about it, it's a win win. The developers don't have to payroll 20 people for an extra 2 years making something no one wants for an extra $500k versus release an unfinished THAT IS STATED AS NOT BEING FINISHED by the way, and then also CHEAPER than a full release (usually half the price) and if it has issues fix them accordingly and in the right direction.
      But sure, let's have lots of games that never get released and still have issues if they are released anyway. Or developers spending years of extra time and money on a game which ends up flopping and then they have to shut down.... I get gamers are bitter and think that if they spend $20 they should have a red carpet rolled out for them but the reality is we're all cheap yet demanding. We are awful customers for game developers. It's not like being demanding when you spend $20k on a Rolex watch. We're talking about $20. Just chill out and get over it. It's agonisingly complicated and insanely risky to develop a new game. We are so lucky we get some of these inventive games and if they're not perfect people like you shit on them because it's not perfect in... Wait for it.... EARLY ACCESS!?! Christ alive people....
