I just knew I'd see you here. haha. I recently sold my strymons because I wasn't happy with the spring reverbs. Replaced them with a Specular Tempus. After hearing this though looks like I'll be adding this soon.
Glad you kept the rec level here to a reasonable level as most other demos seem to crank it, which is cool but I also want "clean" (well as clean as a tape emulation an get 😅) tones from this.
This explains the excess of El Caps for sake in reverb right now. And I almost bought one. I reckon I’ll just save a few bucks and get this after the several months of it being sold out.
I have this pedal and it sounds amazing. I am thinking of getting the orbiter flanger, and the el cap, and the deco, damn you for making amazing products...famine has struck my wallet.
Beautiful, as usual. I've just started putting a rig together after a few years out of the business and the Timeline and Big Sky were first on my list. This will certainly be next, exquisite sounds.
If only you guys have a "Strymon Workstation" where everything is incorporated in a single floor unit just to lessen the number of AD/DA conversions going from one effect unit to the next.
I'm torn between the STRYMON Volente and the Electro Harmonix Grand CANYON I got so excited that I bit my tongue in three places! Which pedal would choose? ???
@@strymon Thank you for answering my question! It’s a great effect. It’s too bad it can’t be done on the spot live. But at least it can work in studio prerecorded playback and can then possibly be sampled for playback along with a live instrument performance.
@@mattpipermusic thx..will the echo level work similar to timeline level. I don't use kill dry since I like dry signal in wet speakers when no effects are on. I just crank the mix in timeline
Volante has an Echo Level knob (as opposed to a Mix knob). Volante's Echo Level knob controls the level of the delay repeats. It does not affect the dry level.
@@mattpipermusic thanks...I have some playing around to do. Just got a soundsculpture 8f. Should be a way to use the kill dry without killing the dry when pedal is bypassed. Maybe turning off the corresponding loop in the 8f is a way around this. If not maybe I just put volante in amp effects loop. Not sure how that would be in a WDW set up (new territory for me).
Hi, Volante is available. If you are in the U.S. you can order directly from us. If you are outside of the U.S. check with your local dealer strymon.net/dealers. Thanks :)
Timeline does not have a drum or studio tape algorithm, and it does not have an SOS looper like Volante's. You also have control over delay head panning, spacing, level, and other features on Volante that you do not get on Timeline. Two very different beasts :)
Dumb question here :) When I set my knobs/switches/buttons in the same position as each example shows, it sounds nothing like the sound in the video, so what am I doing wrong?
At the end of the day it's going to be a very fun pedal to play with and entertain your self with, and for that reason I'm in!.....well Eventually when it's realeased and then IL be put on a stupid waiting list....... 🤢

Recreation of mecanical uneventies and splices: The original tape machine strymon looked at for volante probably was completely covered in dirt, had holes in it and the tapeheads wobbled further to the sides than the tape itself was long XDDDD
Monochrome, on another demo I did see something like that in multihead mode using the little green buttons. Don’t quote me on that...secondary function thing, I believe...
Interesting but I’ll keep my Belle Epoch Deluxe (this is more EchoRec). Strymon’s awesome but a bit too sterile (perfect & digital) to my ear. At what dollar amount do I abandon all pedals and just go DAW & Plugins 🙃
That's how I usually feel about Strymon but the fact that for this pedal they use an actual analog preamp for the record level saturation makes me actually curious if they can lose the sterility.
It is a prerecorded SOS loop that starts out paused. When taken out of pause, the speed ramps back up to normal. This is followed by a short (incomplete) pause then reverse :)

The Dry signal stays analog in Strymon delay/reverb/mod pedals

What’s the signal chain going into your daw?

Strymon enters the Echorec business?
Does the looper sync to midi clock? Sounds really great all the way!

Sounds and looks divine! Question: Is there a way to control wow and flutter (this is not apparent from the layout of knobs and switches)? Thanks!
Yes, wow and flutter are included in the effects of the Mechanics knob.
The chords in Ominous Clouds are incredible...what are they, exactly? (I've got Bb7b13, Esus2, Ab7sus, Bbm7b13...?)
in Love with it ^3
Hi Guys, is it possible to “kill” the dry signal, so that I can use it as a send in my DAW?
Guess not! lol
Is this the same algorithm as the el Cap? If not, how has it changed?
Can’t be, because the El Cap sounds warmer (better, to my ears).
It needs to be in my board
I had a big sky, but now I just want this pedal.
Can I loop with this pedal and then play over the snippets after I bypass the pedal?
Right around 2:54 it sounds a bit like a track off of Andy Summers' I Advanced Masked.
I'm torn between the STRYMON Volente and the Electro Harmonix Grand CANYON I got so excited that I bit my tongue in three places! Which pedal would choose? ???
Does this thing pitch shift if you change the time knob with repeats engaged?
Yes, the delays will warp in pitch when the TIME and SPEED controls are adjusted.
Where can I buy the album?
Strymon asking me: How many tape modulation and mechanical elements like splices do you want to have on your delay?
Me: Yes O____o
It’s like hiring a producer in a box
3:28 👏👏👏
Can you get that “Elevator Music” wobbly detuned tape sound live from the pedal or does it have to be pre recorded and played back to sound that way?
It really only works when playing back a loop since the sound you hear is the loop with all of the mechanics, wear, and artifacts applied to it.
@@strymon Thank you for answering my question! It’s a great effect. It’s too bad it can’t be done on the spot live. But at least it can work in studio prerecorded playback and can then possibly be sampled for playback along with a live instrument performance.
Option for tails off and on?
Yes, you can select to have persist/spillover as a power-up feature for Volante. This is a global setting that will affect all presets on the pedal.
