I'm so happy you reacted to this video. It's such a powerful song in my opinion.
The lyrics are about praying to God to protect us, the kids, the honey, and the sting (the good and the bad).
As for Kululam they are a singing group specializing in crowd singing, the crowd actually pays around 100 shekel (Israel coin, in US the value is around $33) to join. They practice for an hour before and then sing and video for around an hour.
Shlomi Shabbat are one of the most will know Israeli singers, and he's secular which is why he has no head cap (as a side note, be is secular but very warm to religion and sings many songs about religion).

Koolulam is just a name for crowdsinging. Their aim is to create social cohesion through singing together. The composer of the song was Naomi Shemer, one of the most famous composers in Israel.

    Hi 👋🏻
Ok so Koolulam is a crowd-singing initiative, founded a few years ago. They were already all around the world.
He rehearses with the crowd for an hour or so, and then they sing together.
Definitely check out "One day" by them, song from Matisyahu (which you have to check out as well!).
That old man was the president at the time, Ruvi Rivlin.
And Shlomi Shabbat is a very known Israeli singer for decades.

Shlomi Shabbat is one of the most beloved, talented and appreciated soul singers of Israel. Many of us grew up with his music.
He has a show with Pablo Rosenberg, where they sings Pablo's song Maldita Luna. It's in Spanish and Hebrew. I love it, I think you would enjoy it as well!

You are awesome to review this ! "That man " is now the former President of the State of Israel but waws the president at the time - Rubi Rivlin. He was the
"teddy bear grandfather" for israel and we all love him. the singer = Shlomi Shabbat - a famous "mizrachi" singer in Israel - really one of the fathers of Israeli music. The song is composed by the most famous "folk singers / composers of Israel - "naomi Shemer" - "on all of this - please protect and bless us" - basicly...... Its about the beauty, goodness and growth of the country - "the honey and the bee sting" comment really means - " the sweet and the bitter..... - So what was this event exactly you ask ?????........ This was an amazing initiative for independence day - Koolulam -(company / owned by that curly head conductor guy) rented out the venue, it was sold out within 24 hours !!!!!! The audience - paid to participate (it was not expensive ). the idea is that We are the singers - like in a choir. But includes lots of takes, repetitions and practicing while we were there. It lasted for about 2 - 3hours of practicing - they told us everything to do over and over again. - and then they do a final cut with the main singer. - editing took them about 6 weeks. Look for Koolulum - cold play cover - its cool. So I hear you want to come visit israel ?????

The point of koolulam is the crowd singing together. The way it works is that the crowd are taught the melodies and harmonies about an hour before the show in small groups and then they all sing together at the performance.
You should react to shlomi shabbat singing some of his own songs.

This is one of my favorite Israeli songs. It's a classic. It's been performed by many artists in many different styles. I'd been planning on recommending that you listen to Yonina, and I was going to link to a different song of theirs, but I think now it would be interesting for you to listen to their version of Al Kol Eleh, which is quiet and sweet rather than loud and dramatic (both are great).
    th-cam.com/video/dWp4KgvyPYw/w-d-xo.html
Yonina are a husband and wife (Yoni and Nina) who are observant Orthodox Jews. It's pretty rare for an Orthodox Jewish woman to perform live for the general public (rather than just women) but from what I understand she gave it a lot of thought and spoke with rabbinical advisors about the matter before making the decision to be a performer.

The guy who turned on the lights at the beginning was the (then) President of Israel - President Rivlin
The song was written after the 1978 Peace Treaty between Egypt and and Israel, when Israel destroyed Jewish towns that they had built in the Sinai which was returned to Egypt as part of the Peace Agreement.
The sting / bitterness is the town of Yamit where Jewish families were uprooted from their homes in exchange for peace.
The Sweetness is the Peace with Egypt - Peace is the sweetest thing of all.

I love the variation of Jewish music you are playing! Most Jewish people don't even have this variation in their repetiour of music they listen to. But believe it or not, there are still more variations! Most of Jewish song are spiritual and even secular Jewish music tends to have religious connotations. It's in the fabric of their being! Thank you for all this stuff! It's great, fantastic and intriguing! th-cam.com/video/8RhMdFSslbs/w-d-xo.html
This one from Motty Ilowitz is very wordy but extremely witty and has many references to inside jokes in the chassidic community! But if you have someone translate it and explain it, it's a real peak into many nuances that are unique to the religious community and specifically the chassidic community! It's title means "The Jewish desires, or cravings" The singer actually composed this song and he is extremely talented with lyrics! Probably the best in lyrics in the chassidic world today! Lots of depth! He also has a song called "I thought once that I thought" it's brilliant! I hope you take a look at it!

    th-cam.com/video/qEEF-4BQ2-Y/w-d-xo.html
They used to perform together a lot.
Pablo is Argentinian so his songs are in Hebrew and in Spanish as well. Shlomi is from a Turkish and Greek descent (I think so). He probably speaks Ladino, which is a language of Jewish people from the Sephardic descent that resembles Spanish very much. So I think that connecting line, and their big talents and musicianship of course, where good grounds for their collaborations on and off stage.

    A. Koolulam is an initiative to bring together different parts of society through song. The conductor guy is named Ben Yefet.
    B. It is rehearsed. Generally, in koolulam events, they practice for an hour or so and than film.
    C. The man you spotted in the crowd was the Israeli president at the time. This event was in collaboration with his office.

  • @sheerayb
    @sheerayb ปีที่แล้ว

Koolulam is more of a concept than anything else, I think. There were many other events like these, officially organized by Koolulam and also private initiatives (my daughter's school had one, and it was very sweet). Naturally, this particular event was as bombastic as it was, with the full orchestra, the size of the crowd, and the famous lead singer, because it was produced in honor of the 70th independence day.
This song was written by legendary Israeli lyricist and composer Naomi Shemer (as others have told you), and she was gifted with the ability to say so much with so few words and notes. The subtitles are not a direct translation, but they cover the gist of it. This song in particular is a classic and has been covered many, many times. It speaks to us so deeply, because it is a prayer for safety and well-being, to maintain all the parts of the world around us, the sweet the bitter, our families and also the things we take for granted.

The guy with the curls on the stage belongs to an organization called "Kululam", a social-musical venture for the singing of crowds who don't know each other of all types and genders without differences of religion, race or gender (something that is typical for Israelis to do lol, Israelis are very united). The singer, Shlomi Shabat, is very well known and great among Israelis. The people who do the Hebrew sign language do it by themselves. The initiative is also intended for the hard of hearing. If you notice there is the President of the State of Israel among the crowd, he was invited in honor of Independence Day. I recommend watching more clips of kululam. This is a really amazing Israeli initiative.
