To be continued refers to life. That this is just the beginning of a beautiful partnership between man and wife. The song is referring to the bat Melech Ahuva, the beloved princess. Which is the bride. I can’t tell you how appreciated you are - it became perfectly acceptable to bash everything we hold dear in our culture, in popular media that is, without anyone trying to understand us in context. It’s incredible how through music you have been able to learn so much about our culture in a respectful way. As you can see , as a whole, both orthodox men and women have been excited to share with you. This is because most of us are very very happy in our lives. And it’s nice to have someone try to really get to know us for a change. Thank you!!
Those mountains that you keep admiring are the mountains surrounding Jerusalem. The same mountains that the song Yerushalayim by Miami Boy's Choir refers to!
'Bat Melech' means 'princess'. This song seems to be part of a recent trend of openness within Jewish music to songs directed to one's bride, whereas typically sentimental wedding songs are written from a third person perspective. The song heavily quotes traditional texts, which I suppose helps maintain that religious tone. (I suspect this trend was started by the song 'Bereshit Olam' by a secular Israeli singer, which was immensely popular among the religious community thanks to its Biblical lyrics.) The wedding day is a very solemn occasion up until the completion of the ceremony, and women will make a point of praying even if they don't on other days, hence the reading from the book. The wall is the Western Wall, the only standing structure which remains of the Jerusalem Temple compound which was destroyed in 70CE. It has been a site of prayer since then. My own translation, there may be some minor errors: You are beautiful, my wife, and your smile is like a crimson thread You're the answer to my question My home, my faith And each day my beloved is mine I find that my wish is That you come to my heart and brighten my day Beloved princess, come with joy and restore the special light Among the faithful of the treasured people With singing and rejoicing I sing to you and whisper, "Indeed, עוד ישמע" You are good, my wife, and your heart is gentle like no other You are the only one, the answer Within my soul, my mother's house, my childhood home I searched for you, indeed I toiled and I found Father said "Have faith" and look, I made it Before you were born it was announced [in Heaven] you are for me, you were made for me
@@ydubin One of the ideas behind Tznius, isn't just the way we (men & women) dress, but how we act. Public displays of affection are a breach of basic Tznius standards. One should be able to express themselves to their spouse enough privately, that they don't feel the need to compensate publicly. As @Honda Accord suggested, this is just another example for us to find a way to indulge and rationalize it at the same time. What's next?
I hadn't heard this song before, but it is beautiful. To me it looked like a father about to marry off his daughter remembering how she used to be a little girl who played with dolls dressed as brides, and then played dress-up as a bride, and now she has grown into the beautiful bride she always dreamed of. "Bat Melech" literally means "Delighter of the King", so when you described her as looking like a princess, that was exactly right, Many of the scenes showed her praying at or near the Western Wall. It is very common for brides and grooms to go to the Western Wall before their wedding to ask G-d for success and happiness in marriage. Coincidentally I was at the Western Wall to pray this morning, and our prayer group was joined by a groom, preparing spiritually for the new life he is about to begin.

It's actually not a wall of the Temple, it's part of a wall which was constructed as an artificial mountain, a colossal platform upon which the Temple was built, but which was mostly just open space.

@@freespeech100 Granted, I do think this is a very recent trend in modern Judaism. Have we had religious Jews writing love songs since the Spanish golden age?
To clarify what this song is about: "Bat Melech" means princess (lit. "Daughter of a king), and it is being used here to refer to a Jewish woman. I've never heard this song before, but the song seems to be a sort of prayer (personal, not formal/strictly traditional) for the arrival of the princess into their life. This manifests here in the context of marriage. And as for the child in a wedding dress, it's meant to symbolize the innocence and purity of a bride, not that she's literally a child getting married.
I don't think there's any reason to assume the child symbolises innocence and purity, it's far more likely she's simply a stand in because it would be considered inappropriate to have an adult women as the focus of the video.
Some people are saying this is a love song. I am wondering if there is additional symbolism of a Jewish nature with the idea that the Jewish people are the bride and Hashem is the groom. That we are married to Hashem being His chosen people. But now, having looked at the Hebrew words, I am inclined to think this is about the longing to find a soulmate, the woman that was meant for him. But the video does use religious imagery beautifully... The use of the western wall, the one remaining wall of the temple... The girl praying as she grows from a small girl into a woman and finally becomes the bride.
This song is filmed in the streets of the Old City in Jerusalem, a special place for all Jews. This is the center of Israel, the Jewish people’s homeland
This one is less traditional then the other songs you listened to. While it used terms and symbolisms used for Shabbat or Israel, the meaning seems to be a simple love song. I'm not sure if using the little girl is for the father-daughter relationship or is it just to represent the bride without preventing Orthodox Jews from watching (since they wouldn't watch a clip focusing on an adult female for modesty reasons).
The song is explicitly from a husband to a wife, so it's not a father-daughter thing. It's almost certainly just an attempt at portraying a bride in a more modest way
The explanations in the comments are pulled right out of people's waste holes. It's astounding the confidence with which people will simply makes things up.

That scene where she's looking longingly through the glass, she's overlooking the western wall (wailing wall) the last remaining piece of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. So in short it's a song about her being a princess, and she is praying for the end of suffering and exile.

The suggestions for Hashem Melech are really irking me. But I prefer the original 'Man From Vilna'. The cover feels too performancy and less authentic.
It's astounding how many people here are "explaining" what the song is about when they obviously have no clue what the words mean. This is a love song, plain and simple. If you don't know, you don't have to write anything. Silence is an option. 🙄
U sound arrogant. There are kind ways to assert ur opinion.
I don't see why I need to be kind to people who are falsely claiming to understand something. I have no tolerance for falsehoods.
Too much focus on background video graphics and too little on actual song and singers...I don't think the videographer put as much thought into it as you do..
Fair point haha!
That's kind of why I prefer to listen to live performances cause I can just focus on the Vocals. When there's a music video I'm really stuck looking at everything else. Plus with music videos the voices are always a little altered as well.
