      how do you survive off food banks? the ones in vancouver are scalped by the elder asians who drive home in nice cars, they scam the system. and even then, ive never even got enough food from the food bank to make a meal. its always half expired vegan food that noone buys. rotten veggies. and not even enough food to make a meal. youll get pasta, no sauce and nothing to make sauce with. cereal with no milk or garbage oatmilk with no cereal. black bananas, absolutly no canned soups or KD or fruit. a small bag of rice. stupid things like a carton of chicken broth. its a joke. where are all the perishable foods going?. i have to buy food even with the food banks, and i eat free dinners at a church every few days.. hey the meals there are great.

    Yep! And how bout them carbon tax rebates eh? My wife got $600 in 2024 for the carbon tax rebate. My fucking gas to drive to work is $400/month and our groceries for a family of 4 is well over $1000. Weren’t we supposed to get “more back than what you pay.” ??? Still waiting on that promise.

    What?? Inflation is going down according to the current government.
    What is going down is the inflationary percentage in each increase on food prices. The prices themselves are not going down.
    When the factors causing the high price are reduced or removed then you may see the actual prices decline over time! A good start would be the removal of the carbon tax on everything that moves in Canada. Then remove taxes on taxes!
    It would also help if we had more competition in Canada. Unfortunately it continues to go the other way, where we seem to be consolidating industries in Canada. Then there are those that are just leaving Canada!

      Sure that would help, but the carbon tax is but one factor that influences food prices. There are so many other factors, some no govt. has any control over contrary to PP's bullshit on this topic. Encourage folks to read the annual food survey put out by Dalhousie Univ. in conjunction with various experts which highlight many of these other factors.

    Items aren't just going up cents at a time now. They're going up dollars at a time!
    A PC chocolate bar recently shot up from ~$5.50 to $8.99!
    The Bento sushi I buy occasionally went from $14 to $16.
    I'm sure everyone can find more examples of how our food prices are skyrocketing.

    Grocery stores are making record profits… charging more than they need to and the government is just letting them… canned goods, which used to be relatively cheap are now 2-3+$ a can for everything. They know cans sit on the shelves for a long time and they don’t want people having food security.
    Lastly this is not a Canadian problem but a global problem…

    1 pack of spinach
    2 pack of mushrooms
    2kg of green peas
    1 brocolli
    2 butter
    2 12 pack of eggs
    1.5 kg of cheese
    2 kg of pasta
    2 pack of around 1.5 kg of ground meat ( one was on special 30%off)
    1 pack of 1.5kg of ground pork
    2 pack of 12 tortillas (morning meal prep for the win)
    total was 194$ without counting the gas to get there....

      I just paid $98 dollars for about 100 meals of food from bulk barn. Dry beans, lentils, barley, chia seeds, and coffee. I recommend buying whole, dry, and learning to prepare wholesome meals.

    Soups kick ass.
    Rice has a LONG shelf life and too is very filling.

    I overheard this two older gentleman talking in timmys awhile back. Maybe start of the summer. They said they both voted for tredeau the first time and even the second time. But they said that after he shut down truckers bank accounts and arrested many for peacefully protesting, that neither of them can vote tredeau again. This is in bc so I have hope. The number of people I’ve met who are pro liberal or ndp seems to be much lower than how many people I meet who are voting conservative.

    My pockets get lower every time I go to the grocery store and have to put $20 each time for gas in my car. I just spent $18 for a couple ToFu, BBQ sauce, 3 tomatoes, and 2 cucumbers. It's getting ridiculous, we need Justin Turdo terminated. I'm tired of stretching my money, till next payday. After paying bills, I only have a little bit of cash for food and gas. Plus I have to pay back money to collect agency, for a credit card. they sent me a small claims court letter. So I asked them to put a hold on the court case if I start making payments. I guess I'll find out if I still have to go to court, I have all the receipts to show the Judge that I started making payments. That's $200 monthly of my hard earned money, I have to pay them.

      Apples aren’t taxed in Canada. Most healthy food at the grocery store doesn’t not have tax. Only snack foods, cakes, cookies, etc are taxed. Not that it’s that much better, I’m just saying.

    Where I live in MB that pack of awesome bacon and that big roast is at least $70+. Butter and the cheese close to ten each. The gas for the drive to get it....your first born.

      Probably more in Newfoundland.That chunk of dead cow would be closed to $90 or a $100. 2 liter of milk would $5. Bacon, close to $10. Cheese, $10 or more, butter, $5. Carrots and onions, $6 or $8. Oh, don't forget, we have a 15% sales tax. Gas , as of this writing, $1.62 a liter. I don't smoke but the "cheap" ones are $20. The more expensive ones are $23 or a little more.

    I feel you brother, the other day, I bought some bagel, cream cheese, sliced cheese, a jar of pickles, 2 bags of chips and a 12 can box of 7up and it cost me like $40.
    I came to Canada back in 2005; it was literally the best country in the world at that time, I have witness the deterioration first hand over the past 19 or so years.
    I am really things improve in the future.
