  • Tool maintenance is very important to keep your tools useful and functional for many years. With proper care most tools will last a very long time.

    If those little bolts don't hold, I would drill out the hole to 1/4" and use grade 5 bolts. I use the sandpaper disk for my 4 1/2" angle grinder to sharpen my garden tools. Works great and is real quick.

    That's a real handy tool to have. I've leased a hunting property for 15 years and all the fence rows are infested with those cedars. The individual I lease from keeps about 100 acres of it for pasture and bush hogs it regularly and you can tell where he doesn't get. Thanks for the tip.

      Yep, it doesn't take long at all for them to take over.

    You can get those rivets at TSC in the equipment section. They are the same rivets used on a sycle bar mower.

      Awesome, thanks. I'll look for them next time I'm close to a TSC.

    I like the rake a lot and i really like the fact that those teeth are replaceable. Thanks Daniel!

      Yep, it makes sharpening much faster with fast hands! lol

    In a pinch, a short section of a common nail works reasonably well as a rivet.
    At this distance, it looks like 3/8" of a 16d might work.

    On another channel the guy talked about forest rakes as he had done forest fire fighting. He was saying regular rake fills up with leaves to quick and you have to pull them off the tines. I found the Council fire rake on Amazon and was looking for more information on it. I get a lot of weeds and leaves in my back yard and spend a lot of time pulling leave off the rake. Watching you rake that looks like what I need. Where you able to order teeth separately from the rake? Thanks for the information.

    I've got a few million of those cedar trees. Been wanting to get out in the winter and start cutting them down. Been fighting these bad arms and elbows for 2 years that has put a damper on getting any real work done.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that's no good Rob! I hate to hear that and I hope the elbows get better for you.

    Any advice on getting rivets out on teeth that haven't broken off? Do they require being grinded off and replaced with new rivets or screws? Or is there a way to save the rivet and use it on the new tooth? Looking to patch up a rake to put on my fire engine, it's my favorite tool and all the rakes are in too bad of shape!

    Tool maintenance is one of my favorite things to do. Weird lol. Anyway, nice job putting her back into service. I didn't realize you guys had an issue with Cedar trees becoming invasive. Does that particular type grow large enough to be milled for lumber?

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoy tool maintenance, because I sure don't! I don't mind doing it but it's just never very high on the priority list.
      Yes they do eventually get big enough to mill. A friend of mine did the whole exterior of his home in cedar siding that he cut down and had milled.

      It's not a video where you talk. It a slide show of pictures of your homestead, I titled mine Homesteading the perfect life for me. I post a slide show of pictures and added music to it.

    I am surprised that the goats won't eat them. I thought they would eat anything.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't go out and selectively eat them when other plants are around. If they are pinned they will eventually eat them.
