This topic is hitting me so hard. I've just returned to school for Marine conservation. Hearing and seeing more and more coral bleaching breaks my heart.
Fun hammerhead shark facts! The eyes being so far apart give them a great field of view to hunt and scan areas quicker. They also use the front of the head to pin stingrays to the ocean floor. They also have a whole bunch of sensors across the front, used to pick up on the electrical signals live prey give off. They are evolutionarily designed to be very good at hunting stingrays. They also generally birth anywhere from 6 to 50 live young.
true but i do think the enforcement of it is used to further over policing, especially for people of color. Traffic stops like that can quickly become deadly and they are often done to meet quotas. I honestly feel like it would probably be better to make cars undrivable without buckling the seat belt instead of trying to use the police to enforce it.
The motorcycle helmet thing is an issue bc if someone gets in a car accident with a motorist and the motorist dies because they aren’t wearing a helmet, that will greatly affect the other drivers future whether it’s jail time, fines, and just the guilt of killing someone
My grandparents went on vacation in Florida in 2002. They never left lol. In 2015 me and my mom went to visit my grandpa and grandma as my grandpa was getting sicker. …ten years later we are still here and my dad and brother joined us lol. We live here now. I was only supposed to be here for two weeks..
Big props to Rhett for wanting to bring up/talk about climate change! It’s hard as a single person to know how to start with making a change, but simply talking about it will always help. Really great conversation and super interesting to listen to y’all’s takes on it as usual :]

I live in Miami and I go to the keys all the time. Fred the tree is really popular because that bridge was actually blown up in an old terminator movie. The locals planted the tree and there’s actually a smaller tree right next to it! It’s really cool because a tree shouldn’t be able to grow on the dilapidated bridge but it brings memories every time I go there. It’s more like a local mascot than an attraction. I also highly recommend seeing Robert the doll museum next time you go to key west or the butterfly museum.
@zakkcane3482 omg hi! so this is exciting rhett and link lore for the OG fans from way back when. Rhetg and Link used to do commercials for small brands for a living, before taking off on youtube, and one of the ones they did was for The Red House, a furniture company. if you look up the commercial, the joke will make sense. (the commercial itself won't LMAO and that's the beauty of it!!)
Roadhouse was an awesome movie. I love that they kinda lul you into a false sense of serentity with the type of calming music they put into midwest christian motivational movies and then bam! The action just sweeps you away. Like the camera angles and everything were badass!!
The timing of this video is uncanny. I've been getting the redness on my face for a while and I'm going to the dermatologist today for the first time. Now I can bring up promiseb!!
For the hammerhead shark part, think about it, in water there are threats from 360°. All directions. Having eyes pointing off in different directions gives you more view
Contrary to Link’s bleak takeaway from 3 body problem, I came away from watching the first season of the show with a fascination and revitalized hope in humanity from the part of the show that detailed how fast humanity has advanced and will continue to advance in such a short amount of time, and to see that point laid out on a show just blew my mind and gives me some hope that we can fix our mistakes on this planet and can be in a much better place sooner than we realize
For Rhett and Link - Read Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, Recursion by Blake Crouch, and Abduction by Robin Cook. Amazing scifi that gives you a lot to think about.
I live in Florida and do wear a helmet but I lean towards Links side. I don't like being told what to do. But I also agree with Rett that it eats up resources when your head does hit the pavement.
Hammerhead sharks look like that because that head shape gives them a wider field of vision and it helps them sense electric currents of their food better
Yes, it also helps them catch stingrays! It’s interesting that Rhett mentioned he saw a large ray because there was probably a hammerhead not too far off from where he and Shepard were
As a Floridian, unfortunately, we often see what riding without a helmet results in. It’s gruesome. I wish that on no one. It’s traumatizing. And it happens.. often. Like idk how police and EMT’s deal with seeing people ride without helmets after seeing so many horribly mortally wounded people.
When they were talking about the Sci-Fi book he read about the Alien's souls inhabiting bodies sounds verrryyyyyyy similar to Stephanie Meyer's novel "The Host". Anyone else think so?
I was born & raised in Hawaii (70s - 90s). I remember growing up & collecting seaweed as a kid & throughout the years we were unable to do so due to climate change or over harvesting conditions. My parents just accepted that this is what happens… I want to honor the immigrants that came before us that allowed us to have a life in the US but, I am sad that they were not able to stand up to support the life that was here before we stepped we were here.
Your body becomes a serious danger to others in the car and others outside the car if you aren't belted in. It's very self-centered to assume it's all about you.
The hammer on a hammerhead shark is designed to detect pulses in the water. It's almost like a sonar. They can detect vibrations much more efficiently than other sharks, allowing them to detect prey at greater distances.
I need a podcast dedicated to both of y’all’s hair routine. Currently about at links length but I wanted to end up at Rhett’s length. First time growing my hair so I have no idea what I’m doing lol
I was listening to this while cooking so I definitely might be mistaken about what they were talking about but a shark has (electric) sensors in it's nose (not the same as a human nose but a similar function) area which allow it to know when food is right below it's nose area. Because of the hammerhead's wide nose(?) area it has more receptors in a wider area. Sorry if this isn't true, I am a linguist not a marine biologist. I just saw a youtube short explaining this literally yesterday.
I have to use them or else my ears close up when I sleep and it drives me nuts. Luckily, I have a technique and no doctor has noted any impacted ear wax. Most remake how clean they are. When I was a kid - impacted all of the time when not using Q-tips. My body is just backward.
Rhett, I think you’d really like the book On the Modern Cult of Factish Gods by Bruno Latour. I read it for a science and religion course at my college and it was so interesting. Also, Wild Experiment by Donovan Schaefer. Schaefer is a lot easier to read. But both are super interesting and help reconcile and make sense of science and religion.
Used to listen to the podcast to fall asleep to... before you started doing ad reads in the middle. No idea why you need the music for the transition, or why it has to be soooo much louder than the speaking volumes. But I haven't listened in all this time because of it. Pretty disappointing this detail is consistently overlooked.
Hammerhead sharks pin stingrays to the ocean floor easily with their head shape. So i think vision plays a part but i also think its due to trapping pray instead of chasing it.
Hey Rhett here's a thought that ran through my head when you were talking about the climate change in that ocean..". But, do we do anything about it?? No.. because we're so devided" Sad😢

I wonder if "Fred the tree" is somewhat Norwegian, because if you translate "Fred" from Norwegian to English, you get "preserved". So maybe it's supposed to be "Preserve the tree"? Idk, make sense to me 😇

Talking about products for the b-hole: I keep getting ads on social media for b-hole serum. I think it's a serum (like what you'd put on your face) that lightens and smooths the b-hole? Just thought I'd share that with the class.

Petition for Rhett and Link vlogs to come back just so Link can go to Rhett’s house and go to his bathroom to do his getting ready routine 🤣
It's so funny because I recently rewatched the episode where Rhett went to Link's house & took a shower.

Absolutely. It’s also not just about personal safety, an unrestrained person can become a projectile and injure or kill other passengers.
