Pretty wild this is still running the old Autronic eh! Was not expecting that. Great ECU in their day and obviously still does the trick for now on this build, too leaving room in the budget for other parts 😎 - Taz. 🏎 Building a sleeper like this yourself? THANK YOU for putting out hit after hit HPA. I love learning about these cars. Australia is honestly one of the top countries for fast cars. Legitimately want to move there for my obsession
Really shows how much fuel contributing to engine cooling, especially those oil coolers doing the hard work... I really consider putting an oil cooler on my build.
Yeah nah you have been able to get 700+ since the 70's out of the 930 but things get very expensive. We needed a larger intercooler so went with a 934/5 Flat fan instead of the vertical fan he is running, it's $25K USD and that was reusing the $1200 fan. We then switched to a 962 and that costs $1.2M and it's not driven on the road. Hats off to him for taking it further as I was adding up the parts price in my head and he has the top shelf bits in it.
Was there any reason why the engine builder chose to use a huge 8385 turbo for 900hp on 38psi? I thought the owner could achieve that power level with a smaller turbo? Was it because the head flowed so well that they didn't want a restriction on the turbine side ?
what an outstanding build holy shitballs!!! I curate my brothers guards 993 turbo and I know what parts are for a tuned and exhaust stock turbo and wow, like they are made of platinum, this has to be your labor of love. sir I commend you taking the most engaging bueatiful car that is very difficult to achieve 900hp. I'm into tuning and modified water-cooled turbos but this is still my childhood dream car-still is. sir thank you for being completely nuts in the absolute best way a man can be. very very mega build and its modified so tastefully, there's no fluff, business and bueaty. the apron , wheels and all natural 930. its so sanitary. this is a weapons grade 930!!! killer car. great job mate. cheers
Ductile iron cylinders would be a huge downgrade in cooling performance and as a result would allow less compression/boost before detonating. The earliest VW Typ 1 and Porsche 356 cylinders were cast iron, then "Biral" iron cylinders with shrink-fit aluminum cooling fins, and the air cooled 911 was always Nikasil-plated cast aluminum.
Taz does Arthur have an IG account or youtube channel that I can follow. I'd be interested in learning more about his Porsche. I also have a high HP aircooled 930 albeit not running at the moment
3:43 Have a look at the b-roll when they are discussing this and you will see the barrels. Some also call them 'cylinder barrels'. A sleeve is what goes into the bore. You could sleeve a barrel. That said, there are 120 dialects of English and perhaps in your location what we know as barrels are sleeves to you haha - Taz.
It gets even wilder when Arthur talks about the boost/powerband! It has got to be a lot of fun/an absolute handful haha He's had 24 years with this car to grow with it and these mods though 😎 - Taz.
@@hpa101 Very fair, I do appreciate the in-depth air cooled conversations as I race some of the old long-hoods. Only ever been an NA flat 6 guy, curious to see what 900hp out of a single turbo 3.6 sounds like! Keep up the good work.
Why? the oil is the function as water would have been already. Oil can be pumped to a big air radiator somewhere else in the car. Transferring heat from oil to water to air is not going to improve cooling.
My 75hp MX5 had a roll cage, but for sure, we all have a few different opinions on what is a sleeper and what is not. To us, this is a sleeper. We did not look at this and think it would be pushing anything near 1000hp, but that's just us 😎 - Taz.

This is one of the most underrated automotive channels on TH-cam right now. Great content!
Cheers for the support mate! We love what we do and are stoked there are some out there like yourself who froth the tech too 😎 - Taz.
Big time!
"Right now"
You mean "of all time"
I had a 930 which dynoed at 734. Heat was my BIG ENEMY. That was closely followed by my exwife, who totaled the car!
Awesome car and awesome guy. Love your work Arthur! Bravo re.
The mezger is an epic lump man
What a build 👏🏻 love seeing the less common stuff being featured. Thanks Andre and the HPA team 👍🏻
Stunning build, excellent interview.
Awesome Build & Great Coverage!
Thanks, appreciate the support and Arthurs time, who has certainly has built something pretty awesome here over the years 😎 - Taz.
Yet another top-notch interview. Thanks HPA.

Australia is a pretty wild place for car culture, especially roll racing that’s for sure! 😎 Cheers dude! - Taz
Cool car, old school Porsche still looks so good
Really shows how much fuel contributing to engine cooling, especially those oil coolers doing the hard work...
I really consider putting an oil cooler on my build.
Make an air to water oil cooler
911 turbo, sleeper. Pick one and one only.
My friend, a 911 by definition can not be a sleeper.
Very interesting !
500hp out of these aircooled motors was more or less unheard of 10 years ago...... this car is nucking futs and I love it.

That's crazy
Champion Bloke, Champion Car ...............
What’s a 971?
I wonder how long it runs with melting

Barrel means sleeve right ?

You would want to be a good driver! Definitely a widow maker in the wrong hands.
For sure! You'd want to be on your A-game in this 😎 He's had it for 2 decades so has grown with and eased into the insanity at least haha - Taz
👍
This is the most dangerous looking thing ive ever seen lol
It gets even wilder when Arthur talks about the boost/powerband! It has got to be a lot of fun/an absolute handful haha

No film of the car running/ driving is a shame
For sure. We add it when we can get it, but the focus is the tech =) - Taz.

Hopefully if the owner sees this they can link us to something 😎 - Taz.
The car needs air to water oil coolers
Why? the oil is the function as water would have been already.
Oil can be pumped to a big air radiator somewhere else in the car.

Cool build but not really a sleeper. Porsche, rollcage etc.

Quadrupling the horsepower and still looks like a street car at a glance? I'd say that's a sleeper for sure
