    If Jackie likes to dig in the mud anyway you should put some earthworms or something like that in the mud for some enrichment and gradually accessible protein

    Ok so I bought this same "trough". Brought it home set it up and 1/2 filled it with water. Right before I put my turtle in I noticed a trickle of water (by the spout area) to my horror. Had to drain it, call the company replace it, reset... I then actually sealed the bottom, seam, etc. with flex seal. Not the spray. I spread it on with my fingers. Took a couple days to dry, repeat, dry again. No leaks so far. Been a few months. My turtle LOVES this set up. Its so open and free. Basks all the time. The one issue with this is that it is incredibly heavy. My setup is inside. And he added a concrete mix?? Wow. Before the company brought out the second trough they tested it and the second one leaked as well. 😆 So they brought out a third one. I didnt give up. FYI: when you fill the trough with water at one point the walls flex (pressure). I think mine was 165 gallons. I think that liner might get slimy at some point? One more thing: my turtle never swims in this. All she wants to do is bask. Go figure. My basking area is ABOVE the tank which is awesome because she can look out!

    Just a tip, whenever you are mixing anything, weather in cooking or construction, its always best to put the liquid in first and then mix the dry stuff in gradually afterwards.

    Really nice enclosure. I got kind of inspired for future projects. But I think I would have done a bigger land area, maybe 50/50 for a box turtle. And I don't think you should add an snakeneck (it would be cool though), but I'm not much for mixing different species. But great job dude!

    Wont a box turtle drown in a paludarium kinda? They're turtles of course but more closely connected to tortoises and land turtles. A bit like frogs versus toads - toads still need water but definitely nothing like a fast flowing or deep river. I'd be skeptical about them drowning, especially with a snake-necked! But that's just me! Snake-necks are much less chill as a species, than box turtles, in general; too much splashing and swimming around could stress the box turtle out. I always kept box turtles in something like a giant storage tub, or a stock tank, but only had 1/4 of the space dedicated to water. And it was a removable large reptile water dish, plus a large glass bowl, that i changed daily ;-) they like to "soak" rather than swim.

    • @erikm8372
      @erikm8372 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I've always seen snake necks kept in groups, highly active feeders and swimmers! Box turtles seem much more chilled out, solo 98% of the time, and just wanna dig and bury and bask. Lol

      Usually with any reptile or amphibian aside from some snakes dont have a limit on tank size, since snakes usually spend more time hiding than most other reptiles but I'm sure an African bullfrog would absolutely love a huge tank like this.
