Respectable post, Octavian. New indoors background a plus (your new place?). Couldn’t tell which Leica was which in your side by side shot - labels would have helped. My sense is that camera manufacturers are in an “incremental improvement” zone - makes upgrade choice difficult. No big game changers. Flip screen a plus. Nice of you to buy that guy a waffle. Dog pics my fav (2, 5, and 13). 18 Hoodie also works well. Ever go to an all dog event? Lots of good photo opportunities, especially when you find dog owners who resemble their pets. Good of you to call out the guitar player. Cheers!

I have had a Q2 for a year or so now and love it. While I would not consider upgrading to the Q3, if I was inclined to buy a new Q tomorrow, I would certainly buy the Q3. If money was in short supply, I would wait a month or two and pick up a lightly used Q2 with no hesitation.
In years to come there will be special edition Q3’s, of that there is no doubt, and if one were compelling enough, only then I might add a Q3 to my 007 Edition Q2. Who knows what the future holds though and it would not concern me if my Q2 was still in my personal use in ten years time.

@@OctavianCarare Tilt screen very good for us older people when trying to use the macro on our knees but Leica made a big mistake with it loosing the Q2’s aesthetics. Better to have had a waist attachment in the flash socket like other Leica cameras. Yes expensive but much better, also the USBc door, again they could have made a better job.

Thanks so much for sharing. The images look so beautiful.
    1. Did you apply any sort of post at all on the images? It were they JPGs straight out of camera?
    2. My biggest issue with the Q2 were the autofocus and iso performance in low light. What were your first impressions on these two points?
    3. Do you feel that the issues that some people were having with auto white balance and colours of JPGs straight out of camera have been addressed here with the Q3?
    4. What metering mode do you predominantly use? Judging by how your highlights are always prioritised over retaining details in the shadows, I’m guessing you use the Highlight Weighted mode?
    Thanks again!

    • @OctavianCarare
      @OctavianCarare  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Ginola! Thanks for watching. 1. I shot RAW and edited the pictures with presets, yes. 2. I didn't have time to test the performance in low light (I will do this in a future video). Regarding the autofocus I have tried the Intelligent AF (apparently a new feature) and I wasn't impressed. But overall the focus seems to be a bit faster. 3. The white balance of the jpeg is not that accurate and needs some tweaking in post. I think like addressed the issues of JPEG by adding some 'leica looks' (kinda fuji film simulations) in the Leica Foto app and you can add this to your jpegs (I did not have time to use it) .4. I was using center-weight for the metering mode. I normally shoot underexposed to get deep blacks and contrast BUT the Leica Q3 does a better job of preserving and bringing up burnt areas in post. Hope it helps ! :)

Bonjour Octavian.

Have the Q2, upgraded from Q, which made sense. The Q3 from the Q2 does not make sense for the reasons you mention, which I agree with. Too incremental of an improvement, and even some things like the tilt screen are a downside for me as it makes it not only prone to break more easily but also adds extra size to the back which I do not want. Sticking with the Q2! (I still have the Q, and honestly that is also still more than enough for street shooting)

Looks like another amazing camera, evolution instead of revolution but thats totally fine!
One downside, no internal extra memory to shoot in back up...

Hi Benny ! I was surprised as well not to see any internal memory, like the M11. So far in almost 3 years never had a card failed in the Q2 :). The resolution and the look of the pictures is impressive :)

So many reviewers wave their cameras around without a camera strap. I await a you tube short where one of these £5300 is dropped 😝

Still disappointed with no CF type B and a second card slot.

Did you ever have a card fail on the Leica Q2 ? Or read problems ? In 3 years I have never encountered this problem but I agree, it would be nice to have at least some internal memory for a camera that costs 6K euros :)

@@OctavianCarare Cards are prone to failure regardless of the type of camera one uses. SSD memory also has a useful life. It will eventually fail. Apple solders their SSD’s to the motherboard. It’s not an easily replaceable part. I could imagine a complete disassembly by Leica to replace internal memory.

Street photography is of no interest to me because I can’t stand people at all. I do however see a lot of potential with the Q3!

Hi Morgen! I completely understand:) I am the same with landscape photography, it is of no interest to me but the Q3 has potential there as well :)

@@OctavianCarare Thanks for the reply. Watching your enthusiasm and seeing your satisfaction with its performance has helped motivate me to seriously consider the Q3.

@@morgenholz before buying one I really recommend you test one for couple of hours or a day. Just see if it's your cup of coffee and if you get along with the focal length as well. It may be too wide. P.S. buy me one as well and send it to Belgium. Thanks :))

An actual review from someone who actually uses the camera. Only q3 video I’m watching and I don’t even want one. I’ll stick with the M

Thank you Keith ! :) I didn't have much time with the camera to test the improved autofocus or the tracking. I have used briefly the M11 Monochrom and indeed these are very different cameras and somehow the M series is a different system and approach, especially on the street photography side.

@@OctavianCarare so true! I feel the M is as close as film as I’m willing to go. It’s simple and eloquent yet a powerful tool.
The Q line is great but feels to techy for where I’d want to use it.
