    Super post, Octavian! Contrast effects and soft focus in slo-mo work well. High contrast B&W fits your style very well, from what Ive seen of your vids. I don’t sense that the camera is driving the style at all. Favs include 3 (reflections), 6 (car hood - yes, vertical aspect was best😊) - 8 (long shadow), 25 (dog shirt), first of the three 16s😊, and 27 (moment before kiss).
    I have a GRIII and agree w/battery comment. The batteries are small, though, so it’s easy to carry a few. DNG raw is as close to a “standard” as I suppose we’ll get, so JPG not an issue. Ergo can be challenging for folks who have big hands - (I don’t have big “paws”, but buttons are still too small, IMO.) Get the thumb attachment - that helps. Sharp lens and good IQ.
    Tip for setting up “snap focus” on other brand AF cameras: Use back button focus; assign focus to a custom key. Set camera at about eye level for short distance and AF on ground. Tilt camera and focus on secondary distance (like infinity) as an option. Then when shooting aim at target at desired distance w/o looking at finder or screen and tap AF button to toggle distance. Shoot like a point and shoot.
    Intro piece where siren was blaring should have been deleted or redone.😊 Cheers!

    • @OctavianCarare
      @OctavianCarare  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Paul ! I hope you are enjoying your GRIII and hopefully shooting with it more often than I do. Fully agree with your tips regarding the snap focus :) I don't have big hands and sometimes I press different buttons or can't find the right ones but I guess it's also a matter of habit and experience. Thanks again for your thoughts !

    Love these b/w images here! And yes, the GR is the greatest when it comes to street photography. Not perfect of course, but no cameras are. I just dropped mine on a street in Paris. But how this little camera could survive a fall like that, I really don't know...

    Followed the same path as you: had 8t, sold it, bought it again sold it, bought the iiix ,sold it. The screen is hopeless, no Tilting so many times it is a guess how it turns out. Battery life....I had 5 of them.....😢. But the easy way of shooting, transporting, quality, not pulling attention. Somehow it outweighs the cons. Yes it is flimsey, I do wish fuji came out with a X70ii or x80..Without a moment of hesitation I would buy one.

    I love the dynamic B&W images. I also appreciate you under expose your image ~ one stop which contributes to your look. You take some images in portrait mode but didn’t share any of those images.
    Have a GRiiiX. I didn’t like the GRiii because the FOV of 28mm is too wide for me. I don’t like getting too close to the subject but the wide angle forces me to do this in order to fill the frame. I’m not too keen on the fixed LCD. Also miss an EVF for framing my shots. Maybe the 40mm FOV will work better for me.

    The last time I sold a camera was in 2018 when I got rid of my Nikon D600, 17-55 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 to get a new Sony A7iii and a used Sony/Zeiss 55 1.8. Although my main camera is now a Sony A7RV, I will not sell my A7iii. I also use a GR3 and a Fuji X100V. I don’t understand people that sell and reacquire a camera multiple times.

    After using a [big] Canon 6d during years I started to shoot with a GR3 from last months. I brought it with me in a long trip across Asia and, in general lines, Im happy with my 'new friend'. But, to be honest, Im having problems on focus. I know well how 'snap mode' works but not always my choice due I usually get close with subjects and despite Im a street photographer I like to take portraits, etc...Keep trying...

    Great photos. Subscribed! I was considering buying the GRIII here in japan but when I held one on the camera shop, I was disappointed with the feel of the camera and the fixed screen especially for its price. Maybe it’s the best street camera for professionals that really need to get the shot, but for a simple hobbyist like me that consistently needs to drag and convince myself to go out and shoot, how the camera feels is just as important.

    Ironically, the people who started street photography and carried on for years had to stop and change rolls of film every 36 shots. So if you are changing batteries every 150 to 200 shots you are doing for better than they were.

    • @OctavianCarare
      @OctavianCarare  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure ! People stop and changing rolls of film every 36 shots in the film era. And people still used bows and spears to hunt in the stone age :) Times changes and we adapt. I am talking about modern days where we use digital cameras and we use batteries :) I am interested in getting more juice from batteries and not going to shoot film or thinking about people using film :D. Thanks for watching !

    The GR is a better camera than the Leica for one main reason, price. Owning a Leica won't make you a better photographer either.

    • @OctavianCarare
      @OctavianCarare  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I fully agree with you :) but having a camera that you enjoy taking out and shooting often with it may create the conditions for you being a better photographer :)

    • @tomfenn7149
      @tomfenn7149 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OctavianCarare I'm not entirely sure conditions 'may be created', but more perhaps 'can be created' because you have a camera you are more confident with using. May be you did mean the same thing, and if so, I agree wholeheartedly. I've only just updated from a GRD4 to a GR3. Many years ago I owned a Leica M6. The GR3 with its lens built in, cost me around the same as the M6 body only. The M6 was fun, but it is no way as good as a GR imho. In terms of excellence, I'd say the cheaper GRD4 was also better than the M6 too. I think Leica is simply just a kudos (because now you have no excuse 'in a fantasy' *not* to be or have what any Magnum photographer has or had!) thing and little else. A good photographer can take a great photo on the shittiest of camera. Even *without* a camera. Only need to look at Man-Ray. :)

    I had the GRIIIX but recently sold it, along with my Sony @7 3, to buy a Fujifilm X-T5.
    I’m on preorder for a Q3 but it’s got a long waiting list. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
    The GRIIIX is a nice compact camera but its autofocus lacks speed and the startup time slow, and the build quality for the price could be much better.
    I enjoyed using it though.

    • @OctavianCarare
      @OctavianCarare  ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you find the Fuji X-T5 ? :) I have tried it once but somehow I prefer the X-PRO 3, even though the X-T5 is a better camera in all regards. For me the build quality on the Ricohs is the major drawback :(

    • @macjim
      @macjim ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OctavianCarare I’ve not had it long so I can’t give an in depth review but, I like it a lot.
      Even though I have upgraded the firmware with the latest one, which is supposed to have made autofocus better, I really haven’t noticed a difference but I’m still trying to set the system settings to the way I want it.
      I bought an extension hand grip for it as the built in one is too shallow… made all the difference.
      I can crop images without loss of detail which is great… surprisingly the RAW files are edible in Snapseed, something that I couldn’t do with the RAW Sony files.
      I used to own an X-T1 so I’m used to the design… but I wish Fuji would make the power switch more pronounced as it’s difficult to work when a soft release is installed like I have.

    • @macjim
      @macjim ปีที่แล้ว

      PS. The autofocus is, so far not as good as expected, but I probably haven’t set it up properly as it will catch folk behind the subject rather than the subject wanted.
      It’s a more complex autofocus in comparison with the X-T1.
      I must admit I much prefer my X100V when out doing street photography.
      I’m trying to get my hands on an XF27mm as it’s nearer the X100v’s less than the XF35mm I use on the X-T5.
      I’ve gone from being a street photographer working 50mm equivalent to a 35mm equivalent that the X100V has taught me to use.
