Dude! I’ve been waiting for this video exactly. I drive the same 2 door same color JK rubicon and was considering exactly your vehicle as an upgrade. No one does the rear space area on the JL like you just did. Very much appreciated! Enjoy!
Finally got my JL Rubicon 2dr with soft top in the turbo 4cyl setup....took nearly 8 weeks to arrive from the time I placed my order at the dealer. Loving this thing. Fun to drive, over engineered beast for when the roads end, but totally fine on the asphalt when driving to and from work as a daily vehicle. I’ve driven it to and from work for a week now, and have no complaints. Sure, it doesn’t drive like a CAR, more like a truck that has the aerodynamics of a brick. But that being said, like you said in this video, if you know what you’re getting into, then no complaints at all. Fun to also get the Jeep wave from other jeepers, sorta like being a member of a club. First thing I did when I got mine, was rolled down the soft top, and installed a bikini top from spiderwebshade....now I get the open air experience everyday, but with shade from the brutal SoCal sun. Good times
My boyfriend has he hooked on his 2 door manual transmission JL and now I'm even more hooked! I'm so glad you showed us how to get the seats out because I thought it was more complicated than that. Also I drive an equinox and being in his JL is honestly not really a difference. The only time it was harsh was when we got the Jeep muddy and it had dried on the wheels.
Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat
Nice review. I had a 2012 two door JK and at that time me and wife had no kids so it was fine, but a 2 years after we had our first baby. Now that was a challenge, but we manage, since we are in good physical condition, young I was able to put the carseat and take it off. Now the stroller we had to try a few models until we found one that fitted on the trunk and it was our only vehicle at the time, but after 3 years we had our second baby girl and that's when we had to say good bye. My advice, is get a family crossover and then get a two door once your kids dont need a rear facing carseat, since my wife had to move forward to accommodate. Also remember, a two door is like $3500 cheaper than a four door.
Thanks for the video. If you want more space buy a 4 door, but you’ll be giving up some fun. Because 2 doors have better acceleration, handling and cooler vibe.
Thanks for showing the detail on the back seat and how to take it out. I had been looking for that and hadn't found it. I've been looking at the 2dr ones and I keep coming back to your videos!
I kinda regret trading-in my 2011 JGC for a 2023 Wrangler 2-dr. I wanted a change based on the different mods you can do, I talked to a few people about road & wind noise but different answers, I took a chance and I love it. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for in info on the back seat removal. I drove a Jeep Wrangler (Earlier additions) for many years and mostly had the backseat out, but it looks like they have made the removal much easier than the Jeeps I owned. I know the 4 door model is more practical in many ways but they just aren't Jeeps to me. But it good they came out with the 4 door because it is saving the brand because it is what is selling.
Hiker SanDiego The back seat is definitely not super hard to release. Buts it’s a little awkward to get out. And it’s definitely more practical than the older jeeps. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. I've got a 2018 JL Sahara that I love, but I I wanted the smaller 2 door, and just didn't really know how much space I'd lose. Since it's just me and my son (single parent) and I really don't haul anything around, this video let me know that there's nothing keeping me from dumping my 2018 and getting a 2020 2 door. Thanks for the time and thought you put into this - you showcased the 2 door and space very well.
i think you're the only person that knows the rear seats come out. I've seen a ton of vids on the 2dr and you're the only one to nention that feature. great selling point... if the bronco sucks I'm getting a 2dr Jeep.
I've really enjoyed my 2-door Sport so far. I can drive it every day, rock with the freedom panels off more often now (I'm in Texas too, looking forward to summer when I can just leave them off.)
I had a two door JK but the lack of space with the seat up was comical, I've been debating a JLU but I think the extra couple inches of depth and the sub being moved to the floor might have swayed me back to a two door. Thanks for showing the helmet for scale!
A Great review I bought a new 2019 Wrangler JL 2 door in march 2020 not needing a lot of room for people removed the rear seat so I have adequate storage for camping and hunting gear with one other person. Get 21 mpg yes it is rough riding on a windy day and notice I am constantly cleaning the windshield from insects but It drives nice and seems very comfortable on the highway for city driving But this is not for everyone it is an off road vehicle
Was looking for a video like this. I needed to know how family-friendly it was (families with babies/toddlers.) Sadly a stroller would not fit in that trunk space with a baby/carseat also sitting in the backseat. Thank you! Super helpful!
This was exactly the video I needed to see before pulling the trigger on my Jeep purchase. Was planning on a four-door, until I thought, maybe you can take out the rear seats, which solves everything. So I found this video and it answered all my questions, and more. Great job. Thanks.
I have a 2018 Jeep Jk 2 door, I have a wife, 1 car seat in the back and typically fit my German shep. and a pitbull in the back seat as well with no problem. I love my jeep, highly recommend guys
It is super simple to take the back seat out of a two door. I have a new sport. First weekend I had it we had a church picnic. I took the back seat out. Lots of space. Not like a van or a pickup but enough. A jeep can do lots
I’ve been daily driving a Jeep 2 door soft top for 20 years. No issues, picking up my new JL on Saturday. Get the 2 door then you have the excuse honey let’s just take your car the kids won’t fit in a 2 door Jeep! Nice vid
I'd kill silence when driving my JK 4-door wrangler..dang light bars and spot lights though..finally order some silencers so let's hope they reduce the whistling..significantly
Wow I have the 2dr and had no idea the back seats came out or with that much ease. I wanted you to go into taking the doors off. By far best video that showed me what I wanted to know about my 2door.
@@drivenmad2089 question for you, I see you don't have headliner. Do you regret not getting it? I am in CA and I am not sure $498 factory install is worth it..

Hey Cody, This review was perfect for my situation right now! I have a loaner 2dr right now for my 4dr 20'JL which has had nothing but issues. Until tonight, I was really concerned about the lack of space, since I hate moving up the seats to access the back row which is a pain for putting in my tools. You saved me a minute or two now on every haul so much appreciated! Keep enjoying the rubi!
With the exception of the color (I want white) this is my dream car, including the 6 spd MT. Rubicons with 2 doors, MT and body color hard tops are literally impossible to find at the dealership, so I will be ordering a 2021 this month. This is a fantastic video and answered many of my questions. Thank you.
Jennifer Harris Glad I could help! And that’s exactly what I did took about 2 months to come and and it’s cool because then the window sticker will have your name on it 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. I have a 2 door 2016 (special ordered and got Oct 2015). I have the premium soft top and manual. I wasn’t going to go to a JL, but now that they announced the Willy’s, I’m seriously considering. I’ve got on long road trips and it’s fine. I rarely have the back seat in. My biggest question remaining has to do with the soft top. It doesn’t look like you can roll up the windows for storage like on mine. If you have to lay the windows flat, that takes “all” your space in the back.
Awesome, thanks so much for highlighting this in a video. Currently waiting on my 2 door JL - only a matter of days now. I'm told very few have actually made it to Australian shores. I didn't want a 4 door - because why would you? - but I do want to be able to take my two large-ish dogs out. Being able to see how to remove the back seats, and how easy it is, put this vid next level! Cheers.🤙
@@nadiaciardullo6785 I either remove the rear bench seat or just tumble it forward. I have a purpose-made mat that fits the storage area and hooks onto the forward seat head rests, for the dogs to sit on. They don't need to be belted in... They like to move about a little and look out the windows!
If you are worried about noise, wind, or working on your vehicle dont buy a wrangler. If you want a really fun convertible that you can go off road, get a 2 door soft top, take out rear seat, sides and enjoy Safari mode (the best open air solution you can buy), its like having a small 2 door pickup truck. I avoided the stereo with the subwoofer (recovery straps and tools go in cubby, not speakers), and then put in weathertech rear full cargo liner. I have 2 big boxers that fit no problem.
Recently bought a 2dr jk just looks better than 4d imo plus better parking maneuvering saves garage space lighter top etc and cheaper - wish the back seats were split and removable one section or both
Thank you for showing me taking out the backseat because I have two German Shepherd’s and if I put a comfortable sleeping pad W room for them to have a good day
Excellent observations that will impact my decision to buy one. Would forego the NAV with sound system upgrade, because the dust 'n' dirt collecting woofer is absolutely unacceptable, not to mention losing that handy bit of storage space. Surprised the hood "vents" were for looks, only. Had guessed they were to actually help cool the engine compartment. Only, yesterday, noticed the side vents were functional when viewing FCA's Wrangler production plant video. Good to be aware of the slightly smaller gas tank. Still strongly considering a 2-door 2019 Wrangler Rubicon, though. Glad to learn of your valuable critical pointers, *before* making a purchase. Had intended to take out the back seat, nice to know they are relatively easy to remove. Thanks for the helpful video.
Pro Blu thanks for watching man! I love my 2 door. I’m glad I went with it instead of the 4 door. Don’t need the extra space since I don’t have kids and I like that it feels a bit more nimble on the trails. All in all, the JL is an awesome vehicle. 👍🏻
@@drivenmad2089 Primary reason for choosing a 2-door over a 4-door is a much better breakover clearance and nimbleness on trails. My alternate in lieu of Uconnect NAV: Garmin is soon to release a fantastic overlanding GPS, with many super features, including pitch 'n' roll page, plus I can easily carry it for use away from my Jeep.
Glad I could help! I did a updated video going a little more in-depth. Also I think some of the sales people don’t know you can actually remove them haha
Plan on buying my first Jeep very soon: Sport, 2 door hardtop with manual shifter. The many videos out there are fun and informative. Thanks for "telling it like it is."
Thanks for the video. Since I cannot decide on the two or 4 four door because I have a wife , 120 pound dog and a 88 pound dog. Which one would you suggest based on the size.
Good video ! Didn’t realize that the backseat was that easy to remove. One other question though is there anyway to stop the backseat from flopping back and forth when it is folded back ? Seems there would have a tie down point from the seat flop. At times I would have cargo in the back and the seat folded back. On
It actually does have tie down straps to keep them in place! I made a updated video and if my memory serves me right I talked about that. Thanks for watching!
Nice video but have another issue the back seat when folded forward does not swing up towards the back if the front seats. What you show it swings easily up, mine seems locked down. Nothing in manual so looked here. Not helping me but still a good video for seats that work
With back seats removed could a cot 41.5" long fit back there either front to back or side to side? Injuries have left me with few sleeping choices, and a roof top tent set up get's stupid expensive. Thanks, cheers
Would you mind on doing a video on how you actually go about ordering a vehicle and how long and where it gets delivered and how that financing with that dealership kinda works or is it all handled through the Jeep website? I've always just went to a dealership and looked at their stock and went from there.
Del Fields it’s actually super easy. I built it online how exactly how I wanted it, then printed that out, took it to my dealer and said “I want this, order it” haha and they put the order in, I left a deposit, then 6-8weeks later it shows up at the dealership. Then the process is just as if it was originally at the dealership. 👍🏻 thanks for watching man, hope that helped!
I think I'd buy a twin turbo bronco if I had the money. I got an 07 wrangler jk. Visibly It's in great shape, 3 inch lift, 33's etc.. Just rough on gas, wouldn't take it on the highway etc. The things a bit of a money pit to be honest. It looks nice, turns heads every where I go.. Constantly told it's nice while pumping gas etc.. 20 something hotties seem to like it for some reason and I just chuckle when I think about them actually driving it because it is way rougher than any other vehicle I have driven over the years. It looks good but I don't think I'd buy another one.. I know it's an 07 but it was never winter driven till I bought it so it looks like it's a about 4 years old body wise with 100k km on it. I think all the parts are mostly original since the elderly couple never really drove it for 16 years just summer driven so all the common parts like battery, alternator, water pump etc misc parts like that are all original. I had to redo the whole front end, new brakes, rotors all around, new battery, brand new falken wildpeak at3 33's etc. It's got some weird issues here and there with starting.. I think it has something to do with the parking relay or something. Perhaps the starter is starting to go. Personally, I wouldn't buy another one brand new or older model.. It's more for someone who likes to tinker with shit in the garage and my busted spine doesn't allow for that crap anymore so it's all out of pocket at the mechanics.I think the last mechanic might have even swapped some parts off mine for his kids I don't know.. It's now making some weird whirring noise when slowing down.. Sounds like the transmission or axle or some shit. It kind of sounds like an old army jeep but not quite as bad.. The thing is, it's an automatic.. So I don't know wtf is the deal.. It's probably on borrowed time for all I know, just waiting on the next thing to break on it.
Keys Collector haven’t really thought about getting the insulation to reduce the sound, just to make the roof look a bit nicer. but last I checked it was about $400 and that’s not worth it to me right now haha
Carlos Cabrera not really. If you were curled up a little then maybe. Probably be better to just sleep in one of the seats if you really need to. Thanks for watching!
By simply pulling down on the back seat to its seating configuration from a folded configuration using the middle strap located behind the seat, make sure it locks on those metal hooks located on either side of the cargo area. Make sure that you don’t have any cargo floor mat that would cover up these hooks otherwise, the rear seat will not be secured and will bounce around while you are driving.
No, it would still be less then the 4 door with the seats folded down. In my 392 wrangler, I can lay down completely with the seats folded down and can’t do that at all in the JL even the seats out. Hope that helped. Thanks for watching!
Great Veh 2018 JL S- 24 package 2 Door is what my girlfriend bought and she loves it.Now, there are 2 jeeps in the family. But what do you think of the JL loose steering (about one inch play) do you find it a problem?
Dean DiPaola i dont really find it a problem honestly. My parents Jeep (a JK) also has loose steering. Think it just comes with owning a Jeep haha Thanks for watching man 👍🏻
Very informative! I’ve owned a JK and now this JL, both 4-doors. Been wanting to get into a 2-door after my lease is up. Incidentally, am I the only one watching this video getting terribly motion-sick??? Seriously feel like barfing right now!🤢🤢🤢
What would you say or even "guess-timate" city driving only mpg is? Reason I ask is that ive heard a broad range of numbers on that one, jeep advertises 18 mpg city, most importantly I just about only drive city very little freeway Thanks again... great video!
@@erikcastillo2579 Ive been trying to find out city mpg. I pretty much only drive city. Right now in my current vehicle I get about 20mpg city 23 freeway. I dont expect to get the same in a 2 door rubicon but if city mpg was "too low" (matter of opinion) Id go back to considering the 2020 tacoma. Thanks
By far the best 2 door JL review on TH-cam.

Never knew the seats folded up or could be removed. Love the wrangler just not the limited cargo area, but now I know options to improve it.

Recently bought a 2dr jk just looks better than 4d imo plus better parking maneuvering saves garage space lighter top etc and cheaper - wish the back seats were split and removable one section or both
RyAn Noel I totally agree! It would be cool if the seats were individual!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for showing me taking out the backseat because I have two German Shepherd’s and if I put a comfortable sleeping pad W room for them to have a good day
Definitely enough room for the doggos if the rear seats are out!
I just got my 2nd wrangler sport. My 1st is a 2001 tj 2dr sport, new one is a 2013jk 2dr sport. I love both. 2dr with hardtop is the way to go
Great Would like to see demo on going to 4 wheel high and low
Thanks Neil
I go over some of that on my video “how to drive a manual off-road”
Thanks for watching
With the back seat removed, about how much weight could you put back there without the rear end squatting to badly? Like 10 bags of mulch maybe?
Loved my jeep but for the price anymore I'm glad I went with my fullsize truck.
I love my JL Rubicon 2door! It’s great off road, comfortable with the leather interior. I did remove the back seats for more storage.
Thanks for the upload. Answered my questions without having to talk to a damn salesman. Also they don't let you remove the back seat.
Thomas Buetow awesome dude!
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Thanks for showing clearly how to remove the back seats. Just the video I was looking for.
for some reason i don’t have that much space in my 2 door JL....well now when you put your helmet in i really saw.
Thanks for the video. Since I cannot decide on the two or 4 four door because I have a wife , 120 pound dog and a 88 pound dog. Which one would you suggest based on the size.
Good video thanks!! I love my 2dr Rubi. I picked her over a ZR2 too... Much more character and she's a blast off-road.
Not helping me but still a good video for seats that work
You can fit two car seats no problem. I got a 2door willy no problems
ever thought of doing the rear seats recline mod?
3:02 good you brought that helmet for measurement
I’ve got the same Jeep with a premium soft top, 37 inch STT pros and 3.5 inch lift. Love mine. Only complaint is the ESS.
michael cammack sweet man! What lift are you running??
Driven Mad! I got the Rubicon Express 3.5/4.5 with all 8 control arms and track bar. The RE JL shocks are made by RadFlo. It rides really well.
Good video, I guess I made the right choice by going for 2 door jeep Willys S same color as yours.
Nice man!
Thanks for watching!
Thank You so very much for sharing this video & making it simple to understand!!!
With back seats removed could a cot 41.5" long fit back there either front to back or side to side? Injuries have left me with few sleeping choices, and a roof top tent set up get's stupid expensive. Thanks, cheers
First thing that I do is remove the back seat..Free up a lot more space. Makes a great dog space, storage for camping gear, etc.
@@drivenmad2089 Very cool 😎👌. Thanks for the info👍
I was told never to drive around with the seats folded down...take them out all together or leave them in the seating position
@krvnjrcbs they can break n get ruined
I have removed the rear seat. Is there a device you can purchase to fill in the leg area in back area so it is all level?
We have the same Jeep :)
Moving soon so it was helpful to know how to remove the backseat. Thanks!
2 door is the only way to go. The true Jeep.
2-doors or no doors, only way to go
Whats your current MPG and have you thought about adding insulation to the hardtop to reduce sound?
Keys Collector I currently average about 18 MPG with 50% city and 50% highway driving
Keys Collector haven’t really thought about getting the insulation to reduce the sound, just to make the roof look a bit nicer. but last I checked it was about $400 and that’s not worth it to me right now haha
Great content on this channel! I have a 2021 2-door Willys hard top and I do get some good info, especially about off-reading skillz
Thanks man!
Without back seat, can someone your size fit in the back to sleep in during road trip? Awesome vid!!
Carlos Cabrera not really. If you were curled up a little then maybe. Probably be better to just sleep in one of the seats if you really need to.
Thanks for watching!
waiting for my pay...im getting the 2dr rubicon jl...hopefully soon...im so excited
J.t.R. JP sweet man congrats! I know the feeling. I was super pumped up when mine finally came in!
Thanks for watching!
How do you keep the seats back without them moving around? I drive and they smash into my seat.
I own a 2018 JK Sport , it's very comfortable...
can you let us know if you can fit a bike in the trunk with the seats up or down?
Nice vid. You can knock 9-11 dB, off with good headliner kit. Also on 2dr, A/C and Heater, Much more effective, with kit.
Would you guess or say that with the rear seats removed it would equal that of a 4 door with the seats folded down?
No, it would still be less then the 4 door with the seats folded down. In my 392 wrangler, I can lay down completely with the seats folded down and can’t do that at all in the JL even the seats out. Hope that helped.
Thanks for watching!
@@drivenmad2089 thank you !
Excellent
Thanks for this video...
With the back seats removed how much square feet is there? 4 x 3? 4 x 4?
Thanks
drumtwo4seven Thanks for watching! And I’m not sure about the square feet with the seats removed. I’d have to get back to you on that
I took my back seat out six months ago never going back in
Great Veh 2018 JL S- 24 package 2 Door is what my girlfriend bought and she loves it.Now, there are 2 jeeps in the family. But what do you think of the JL loose steering (about one inch play) do you find it a problem?
Dean DiPaola i dont really find it a problem honestly. My parents Jeep (a JK) also has loose steering. Think it just comes with owning a Jeep haha
Thanks for watching man 👍🏻
Very informative! I’ve owned a JK and now this JL, both 4-doors. Been wanting to get into a 2-door after my lease is up.
Incidentally, am I the only one watching this video getting terribly motion-sick??? Seriously feel like barfing right now!🤢🤢🤢
Andy D glad I could help out dude. Thanks for watching 🤙🏻.
Don’t know about the motion sickness haha
So what are the straps on the back of the seat for? Can you lock the seats into position when folded/folded up? Been tryna figure it out lol
James Murphy yep! You can use the straps to attach to some “D rings” that are behind the front seats.
Thanks for watching!
I have a two door sport with that back seat out could u put a bed back there. Thanks
jon50021 I actually have a newer video going over stuff like that if you want to check it out but short answer is no. The bed would be too long.
So you teleport into the back seats do you?
What would you say or even "guess-timate" city driving only mpg is?
Reason I ask is that ive heard a broad range of numbers on that one, jeep advertises 18 mpg city, most importantly I just about only drive city very little freeway
Thanks again... great video!
I'm averaging 20 mpg high on my 2019 wrangler JL 2dr sport s. I drive about 80 to 90 miles daily. Hope this helps.
@@erikcastillo2579
Ive been trying to find out city mpg. I pretty much only drive city. Right now in my current vehicle I get about 20mpg city 23 freeway.
I dont expect to get the same in a 2 door rubicon but if city mpg was "too low" (matter of opinion) Id go back to considering the 2020 tacoma.
Thanks
thanks for the review, looking to buy a jeep!
Lisett Tapia no problem glad I could help! And you should definitely buy one, they’re awesome.
Thanks for watching!
