A friend has a still perfectly original Geländewagen from 1981, and she looks and drives like a new truck. He just did an 8000km Kgalagadi desert trip without missing a beat. I am getting a brand new G400d this week, to be used on dirt roads and tracks.
I thoroughly enjoyed this G-wagon road trip. The vehicle was put to the ultimate test, tarmac, gravel, rock crawling, river crossing.I love it.This is how you test an expensive SUV,so that you know exactly what you are buying in an SUV.Awesome road trip brother.
Man, What a great video. This is my 2nd time watching your content (1st one was the Jaguar F-Type review) and you have gained a new fan. Thank you for the quality content and not just taking us through a car review but very in-depth and personal. Keep up the great work and surely will be checking out all your stuff past, present and future.
Greg I have said it many times and I will say it again and again.. Your reviews in my opinion are the very best in South Africa.. Informative to the point and just so easy to watch. May GDR go from strength to strength as you truly deserve it Warm regards Mike
Lekker road trip and you have showed me a different route to go down to Cape town.I personally like the fact that it's not touch screen, they are very figgity & for such a tough vehicle o think it suits it,plus getting the screens dirty with your fingers.Fuel economy it's a heavy car so it makes sense.thanks for taking us with you enjoyed it
Thoroughly enjoyed this road trip, thank for showing us that other side of our lovely country. Above everything though, I love your G wagon Colour! That green 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
What an amazing journey you took.i drove that road last month in my corolla cross to Keimos, kakamus,Pofadder and Aggeneys.i must confess that there are some nice sceneries on that road...nice review.
Just came across this video & I'm glad I clicked on it because you just took my road trip route I'm planning to do after getting my motorbike next year. Thank you Greg, atleast now I know what the route looks like. 👍
Awesome views. Namaqualand in spring 🏵️🌸🌺🪻🌻. Got me interested in NC, as a province to visit. Good shots of the car. Exterior + interior. Awesome places of accomodation, interests and sights.
@GregDennisReviews Schöckl is in the state of Styria in Austria - near the city of Graz, where the G-Class is actually manufactured. Fun fact - Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was also born in Austria. Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are both based in Stuttgart, Germany. The G400d is my pick over the G63 AMG👍🏽
@@leonchris7602 Indeed. And no, they don't. It's made by Magna-Steyr under contract from Mercedes-Benz. Magna-Steyr also helped INEOS to develop the Grenadier 4x4.
@@dazzledonkey Yes, many BMWs made by Magna. MB “heavy metal” still done by Magna. (Maybach, some S class, Gwagen etc) have a Google on S-Tec, a Magna company. Amazing mods being done on old ex mil 461 Gwagons.
Bro I love the brand but I feel the G400D is still mighty expensive hey and fuel consumption isn’t great hey😮but I guess it’s definitely the one if you not really after the performance of G63. Me the GLE 400D seems to be more efficient 😮 SA is beautiful you need the right car to really experience the country
Passed by Vryburg. You could have popped in Mafikeng and greet. My stupid mind tell me that I can afford to maintain this SUV, but I know I can't afford to pay for one service. I like the cool factor of this ride.
Intending to buy one this week. I'd hope for 10km/l @100km/h, or better. Pity Anglophones reduced its name to G-wagon, just because they couldn't pronounce the very easy Geländewagen. Guh len duh vah ghin. This is a 4x4 and no SUV, and cannot be compared to anything else. Anyone needing a SUV, rather buy a TLC300, Nissan Patrol or something like that. No reviewers EVER mention that the 3 diff-locks can be engaged while on the move. That's quite nifty.
Is a Hilux bakkie worth 1 bar? Is an Amarok worth 1 bar? Is a Jimny worth half a bar? Everything is relative to something else. Is a 1977 Datsun 120Y worth R250k?
Great road trip! Would have been cheaper and more comfortable in a Raptor and 2 million in your pocket! G-Wagon is super over rated and extremely over priced.
Not most G Wagons. To put it in simple sense, the ones with smaller engines such as the 400d (inline 6), are underrated, but for those that are with V8 engines (G63) are way more overrated than any other G Wagon that has ever existed😑. So in conclusion, if you meant the G63 is overrated, I can accept that they are🚶🏽♂️
Oof that fuel consumption is really bad but it's simply because of the shape of the car that's not aerodynamic. My 2014 E350 Bluetec with the old V6 diesel (185kw and 640nm) averages 5.2 litres per 100km from Joburg to Cape Town. It's crazy how much less fuel a sedan uses. I don't like SUVs at all. Their fuel consumption is unnecessarily high just because it's tall. Silliness.
@@afriquelesud Most people who buy these don't even go off road. They use it as a status symbol. So it's wasted. But if you're going off road then it's the best car for it fuel consumption be damned..
@@SDav21It isn't about most people! It is about the few that actually use it for its designed puprose. Guys like me. Don't be like a 12yo; that's foolish.
My Jap Crap Fanboy Van's warranty was worthless and the car itself failed dysmally. I have 32 more factual case studies to denounce your idol worship with.
Very Very weak video, does nothing for me personally. The young guy as presenter is very much engratiating himself, speaks a lot about the car can do this, can do that, but no visuals to demonstrate such claims. "Putting the car into Desert Mode" for sand corrugations, my word what a foolish statement and a foolish thing to do. There is very very little spoken about the technicalities of this vehicle, and as an example why Mercedes went from a solid bean front axle to a independent front axle suspension system and what are the advantages and disadvantages. What about the diesel engine, pretty much about said nothing at all. No this youngster is definitely not a credible motoring presenter at all. It appears he has little knowledge about the car, its uses, and then what is the price at over R3 million of this "ENTRY LEVEL" Mercedes "G WAGON", I suppose thats 'OKAY", and what are the comparisons and capabilities to other 4x4 vehicles in this price range: Land Rover, Land Cruiser, Nissan, Hilux etc etc. He does no service to the brand Gelandenwagen, which over many many years has become a ledgendary and very capable 4x4 and off road vehicle. Such a pity and an opportunirty lost. My view as a season explorer (Africa on 4 Wheels)

G-Wagon in its natural environment!
do "die hell" next time in an Amorok or Ranger next time. lovig the roadtrip format and judging by the 27k views I am not the only one
Great video. I think what could top it off would be to include prices for new offlanders or non South Africans planning to make the trip🙏
Having already driven the Tank 300, which one would you say is better between the two? 😊
Obvs. The G Wagon. No question. More power, more comfortable, more luxury, better build quality, a lot
I have done more off roading with a corsa lite 😂
That’s cheating, The corsa lite can go anywhere 😂
Nice car. Cool review. Small point, there is a difference between electric and electronic 🤔😁
Thank you! 🙏🏼 what’s the difference? The spelling? 😂
@Greg Dennis Reviews did u pass delareyville on your to vryburg?
Oom Greg you past my little dorpie Vryburg 🙏🏽👊🏼
Did you put nitrogen gas on them tyres I do if I’m gonna be driving during the day for long drives ?
I love a G-wagon anyway. 1 question, is there any body roll on those meandering roads?
Great video. what's the fuel range on a full talk?
Thank you! You could probably get about 1000km. It's got a 100L fuel tank. But i don't think you'll be able to get more.
How does the car behave when hit by cross winds?
Solid as a rock 🪨
Beautiful video
Kindly asking did you receive unnecessary attention because of the beauty of the car?
Thanks you so much! Not unnecessary attention, but definitely a lot of attention. Especially through the small towns
Nice color Greg
nice trip in a nice car, have you done the GLC 43 before ? if you did please give me the link thank you

I have on record a service invoice for one of these, which came out to 43% of the similar service done on a 1.5 litre VW Polo TDi.

How and why did the wagon double in value in the last 2 years? I mean, it's available in abundance
Went to AutoTrader and I’ll be honest I don’t think this car is worth R3 million 😂 I thought R2 million and above was G63 territory but damn
