@@matthewmedley8532 Both movies are in my top 20 all time great movies, but Once upon a time in America is number one! It's the single greatest piece of cinema I have ever seen! Get the prime video version which is about 3 hours and 50 minutes if I am not mistaken!
When first released it was poorly cut from 6 hours to 4 hours to the preferred theatrical release of 3 hours and the critics panned it's lack of continuity and confusion . Release of the complete DVD gave it better meaning.
The Best Film I’ve ever seen, it has absolutely everything, romance, betrayal, friendship, humour, tragedy, triumph all with perfect pacing and all time great soundtrack and arguably the best cinematography and set design I’ve witnessed.
I could easily watch this film every weekend,it’s just epic,the visuals,the music,the writing,the mood’s….but especially Enio’s master classes…it’s just a GIANT among film history 💔
Grazie❤❤❤❤
@robbie192 I disagree this was a gangster film in the way good fellas or even the godfather were, the themes of regret, longing and emptiness were more important, the gangster part was just a vehicle to move the story. I came away from this film deep in thought about what life is and why we are here. With goodfellas I came away thinking it was an awesome film which showed crime doesn't pay.
It goes so much deeper, I walk away with questions about life, why are we here? What matters in life? The godfather is great but doesn't evoque that same emotion to me
No way it deserves more popularity than Godfather Trilogy. No WAY!! It is a fantastic Nostalgic Movie about Friendship and the good old days. But this is Blasphemy, Godfather is the Nonplusultra of Mobster Movies! IMO
They're different films about different types of men, but I do favor Once Upon A Time In America to The Godfather. I'm glad that it's one of the few films to portray the Jewish mob accurately instead of glossing over them in favor of the Italians or Irish. A friend told me Sergio Leone refused to direct The Godfather and instead wanted to make his film about Jewish gangsters in part due to Hollywood's stereotyping Italians as being criminals.
(…) The world is in America. In Italy is only Italy. France is full of France. Germany is full of Germany. In a continent that contains the entire world, contradictions are, of course, constantly arising. [Cinephilia & Beyond] 5:14
Taking place in 1920 to 1960 America the film follows a group Jewish gangsters from childhood into their glory years of the prohibition and as they reunite in their later years. [Golden Globes]
Just watched this for the first time. I thought it would be a difficult one to watch through due to 3 hours 49 min runtime, but I kept me so engaged and I just didn’t want it to stop. This is by far one is one of the best movies in the genre. Visuals, soundtrack, acting…top notch! The scene with manhattan bridge is so iconic.
Leone said that this movie should been called "once upon a time the cinema"cause he wanted to celebrate the begginin of that but that are also a lot of reminds to 1900 french and american paintings.really visual masterpiece.
Every frame in this clip could be a painting. The cinematography is absurdly beautiful. My father's favourite movie, and the more years go by .. the more i understand why.
In my opinion the best film I have ever seen, phenomenal soundtrack, thanks to everyone in the making of this powerful film, the actors, actresses, film crew, Sergio and ennio and everyone else, thankyou Mr morricone for the beautiful music.
This is that rare film, that I always want to see again, a melody takes me to the time of 30's and I see the Brooklyn bridge from the angle that is shown in the film

Easily one of the best films I’ve seen. The score and visuals just stay with you. That brief shot with the group walking by the Brooklyn Bridge as the backdrop brings tears to my eyes
What a lot of critics of this film don’t seem to get is that this is a beautiful and poetic film about bad people, and the choices they make that put them in a hollow position in life. It is about what happens when that so called American dream is both not so great after all, and the kind of regrets someone from that life who didn’t even make it lives with for the rest of their life.
Watching Once Upon a Time in America is closer to a spiritual experience than a movie. There is something profoundly disturbing about this film, but also transcendent. I revisit it every few years, but I can’t watch it more often than that. It stirs too many memories and emotions that are better left undisturbed.
Best video on Once Upon a time in America masterpiece on TH-cam ! : Because of the quality of the images (every plan of Sergio Leone is full of details and could be a painting !) and of the rythm of the video following the magnificent music of Ennio Morricone!
This movie is so brilliant. Every scene, every shot is perfect. Dark and melancholy. But it wouldn't be that absolute masterpiece without the wonderful music of Morricone.
I watching this movie and of course, read the book too, amazing movie and absolutely fantastic novel and exciting music,Great Artis,Ennio Morricone, Best regards, Askar Makhamov, Republic of KAZAKHSTAN 🇰🇿, Almaty City
I have been wanting to write my point of view for quite sometime. Firstly, I watched this movie some 5 or 6 years ago, back then I could not capture the essence of the movie. Subsequently, I researched about the movie and most importantly it's director, "The Maestro" Sergio Leone. This was his last feature film and was also the last of his "once upon a time" Trilogy. Honestly, I would say the movie and it's direction are something which are "once in a lifetime" things, truly befitting it's title. All the aspects of the human emotions and relationships are superbly captured in the film and you would wonder why didn't you watched this earlier or whether your life was a waste before watching this masterpiece. The closest thing which comes close to this masterpiece is "Novacento" , made by his paisan Bernardo Bertolucci. The soundtrack provided by "The" Ennio Morricone is splendid and I am sure it will be with you for rest of your lives. Every piece of the movie is superbly enacted. But the highlight for me is the way in which Dominic says to Noodles while dying on the Manhattan Bridge that "Noodles, I slipped" , it surely gets me every time I watch the movie.
Paulo Sergio Leone foi um diretor totalmente diferenciado. Gênio fora do comum. O planejado e não realizado épico de guerra sobre o cerco de Leningrado com certeza seria outro monumento.
