Thanks! Noticed my handbrake was very slack and not holding the car on hills anymore, then I realised that one of the back discs was getting extremely hot compared to the others. Took the wheel off and had the same issue, sprayed it and jiggled it and now it's so much better.

Best solution is to get brand new calippers, handbrake mechanism is worn and rusted inside, water comes in and blocks it. wd40 will last only for some time, you will need to repeat in some interval

    Thanks mate. Good video!
I’ve taken my ‘08 Mondeo into the garage & they’ve done this twice!
Last time, it only seemed to last a week or two? You reckon that’s due to him not cleaning all the crap out thoroughly enough?
I’m gonna have a go myself, after watching this. You think it’s worth using a wire brush & WD40? Then adding some copper grease afterwards? Or is that likely to collect grit & crud? Whatcha think? Cheers. 👍🏼

Cheers pal very welcome I would suggest just going at it with a wire brush and plenty of WD-40 and it should work loose. Let me know how you get on cheers Glyn

Hey. I’ve recently encountered the same problem, but found out if i took the handbrake and applied as hard as i could it locked the wheel. Problem is, now that i have loosen the handbrake lever the “brake” wont come of the wheel. It’s stuck on the rotor if you know what i mean. What should i do

Sounds like the pads are stuck on, i think you might need to remove brake calliper

If the actuator was siezed and the other side was ok, where was the free play causing the extra clicks on the handbrake lever coming from before releasing the stuck mechanism? Just wondering. Nice video, thanks.

Hello Kev that’s a good question, tbh I’m not sure it was definitely only working on the left which I sorted out last time it seized, it’s working great now though 👍🏻

@@BugRacer1955 To me, that looked like a very bizarre issue? When the end of the brake cable (nipple) is at the very top, does that mean that the handbrake is tight on that car? If so, the caliper should have had a tight grip on the wheel, stopping it from turning? Usually, when you can pull up the handbrake that high, usuallly means the cable hasn't been adjusted inside the car properly. Wonder if you also have/had a stiff/partially seized brake cable?

    • @BugRacer1955

@@johnrichardson544 thanks for the comment John I think it’s quite common on these mondeos, I had an jag xtype before this car and the same thing happened and they share the same chassis. To find the adjuster it’s exhaust off heat shield off and there’s the handbrake cable adjuster nut & cables (I haven’t ventured that far and was able to fix it at the calliper) it’s now a few months later and handbrake still working perfectly
