  • Some people have a hard time trying to start a charcoal grill. Some have even burned themselves by using too much fluid. This video shows how to start one in a decent time and without accident. Always be careful when working with or handling flammable fluids.

      I'm sure you will do fine. I tell most first timers, if it starts to get out of control, just shut the lid and shut the vents if possible. There's no need to use water and it could make it worse. Also get to know the levels in your grill if you have them. Works like an oven. As the coals start to burn away your food might start to cook a little slower. You can use the height adjustment to either move the coals closer to the food or away from it. Its takes time but the more you use your grill, you'll develop a technique. Have a good day.

      Take your time and have a little patience and i think you’ll be ok. Once you get it started, cooking the food is another small hurdle. Anyway if you are using fluid make sure your coals are white and orange looking before you put your food on. You don’t want any of the residue affecting the taste.

    I have been bbqing for 33 years and personally I don’t know why people are so against lighter fluid. I have done a taste test and people don’t know the difference between lighter fluid bbq and natural wax fire starters. I don’t know where that trend of not using lighter fluid started. I never will try Matchlight because that charcoal is been soaking in lighter fluid for probably years. I use a little amount.. believe me it goes a long way. I can make 10 bbq with one kingsford or royal oak lighter fluid 32 ounce. I don’t recommend the cheap lighter fluid, that’s a whole different ball game. Cheap lighter fluid does release a bad taste. I guess that’s where the anti lighter fluid mania started.Get the good stuff and stop buying cheap to save an extra dollar.

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, make sure of that. Different coals such as mesquite and hickory add distinctive flavors to the food.

    It’s honestly better to use a chimney to light this. If you don’t have one, it is better to grab some twigs or starter for your fire and put that beneath the charcoal to get the heat to light the charcoal evenly.

    Could have spread the charcoals once they are burning on their own.

      Thank you very much. I tried to make it as simple as possible. Some people get impatient and try to add more fluid to the coals after lighting which will make your food taste kinda funny. Trick is to add just a bit to get them wet then let the residue burn off.

    • @hoodatheist5549
      @hoodatheist5549 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Meanpooh thank you so much for this tutorial. I thought that the fire was going out once the charcoal turned grey. When do you know to add more charcoal?

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You shouldn't have to add anymore but if you have a thermometer on your grill and you notice that the temp is going down you could add more. Thing is some coals have residue on them and while it's burning off, it could get on your food.
      You have 2 options.
      If your heat is going low and you think you may need only 5-10 more minutes, you could lower the food to the coals provided you grill is adjustable.
      2nd, you could use a chimney starter and have the coals ready to go. I have a video here.
      th-cam.com/video/YhGvGooFN8w/w-d-xo.html
      Theres also a card for the video in the top right corner of this video.
      All you have to do is just add them. Move you food to the side and then drop them in.
      Hope this helps.
      BTW, after a few grillings you'll know exactly how much to add. Its better to add more than not enough.

    • @Meanpooh
      @Meanpooh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad I could help! Just make sure that all the coals are white before adding food and do not add any fluid while cooking. Food will be ruined. If you don't like using fluid there is a Chimney starter method that I have linked in the video.
