    I've had a S&W M&P 15 Sport for about two years now. I rarely clean it, and it has probably 1,500+ rounds down the pipe. Not a single malfunction, and I use the cheapest Wolf steel case ammo I can find.
    I've added a new handguard, as well as a bunch of other accessories to it, and it continues to run flawlessly. Can't say enough good things about it!

    after serving in the US Army for 23 Years and getting very comfortable with my friend the M16 and M4 family of rifles, I must say I am confused by the common sentiment online saying this is a good entry level rifle. perhaps to some, but for a guy that packed one very frequently as part of my craft, I find this rifle to be of exceptional quality that except for the three differences (the dropdown trigger guard for mitten use, and the 3 round burst function, and the carry handle [fixed or removable] rear sight) this feels identical to what the US Infantryman carries. And being experienced in infantry marksmanship, this weapon is NOT only entry level. Seasoned US Military Experts would feel very comfortable with it. Are they entry level users? I think not....

      I have one of these and although it's the only ar I have, I like it. I've had a ak47 for years and always loved that rifle, but since I bought this one, the ak isn't getting much use anymore. Maybe I'd feel that way about this one if I ever got my hands on a really top end one. I live in Michigan and you can use a 450 bushmaster for deer, so the ar companies are selling tons of these things here, you just have to change the upper.

    I have several high end ARs that cost 2 & 3 times the price of my M&P but none of them are any more reliable or accurate than the Smith. I have around 3k rounds through my M&P and it has never skipped a beat. It runs flawless with brass and steel ammo, runs great with all types of magazine brands as is very accurate right out of the box. It is also very light, which is great for people like me who enjoy "run & guns" and shooting with their heart rate up. This is definitely a quality rifle and I actually applaud the fact that they deleted the dust cover and forward assist. Everyone thinks they need those two things but 99% of owners never actually do need to use those items lol.

    Oh, and that trouble you had with locking in the mag on the closed bolt happens on mine as well, and I know I only had 30 rounds in there, exactly. Of course, when you need to reload, normally, you'll have the bolt locked back anyways, so this is usually not an issue. Not sure if other ARs have this problem or not.

    Smith and Wesson products are consistently high quality. I have owned S&W M&P handguns in the past and I actually grew more fond of them than my Glocks, though I am a revolver man through and through. The M&P-15 is an awesome rifle. EVERY Patriot and free citizen should own an AR-15.

    Decent entry-level AR. My personal preferences lean toward having a dust cover and forward assist. To each their own. Disclaimer is that my preferences are due to military experience and combat service. In a harsh environment (i.e. not the range, etc) those two arguably seldom used features can make a difference. That's why they're there.

    I've had mine for a year now and live it. I've put a couple thousand rounds through mine and never had a jam or failure to eject. Over time I've modified mine pretty heavily to suite my taste. I've upgraded the upper receiver to one from aero precision with a forward assist and a customized dust cover. I've replaced the buffer with a spikes tactical T-2 buffer. I've replaced the factory hand guard with a Troy Delta rail, I've replaced the stock with a magpul MOE stock and I've replaced the pistol grip with a hogue grip. I run a vortex spitfire 3x prism scope on it and all in all I love this gun.

    Thanks for an awesome review! I just picked up the M&P Sport 2 online for $492.. (Got a chuckle out of what you said about a $450 AR but I'd imagine prices have fluctuated over the years) I couldn't believe the price compared to the prices I've seen in stores. Love the rifle already and the way the world seems lately, probably couldn't have gotten it at a better time.
    I really appreciate your videos. I always look them up and factor them in when looking at a new gun.

    I like the idea of low-priced but "decent" quality ar-15s. I like them being available in the market, and I like the idea of people who have "some interest" being able to step up and buy one. This sort of thing is a big political statement/function, too -- getting these out there in high quantity only helps resist future attempts to suppress them.

    • @hickok45
      @hickok45  9 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      +GetMeThere1 Great point, the more of them that are out there, the less likely that politicians seeking emotion-based votes can use gun confiscation to get votes. Once the notion of taking up AR15s is about as absurd as trying to take everybody's cell phone, then we'll be safer from these sorts of politicians / dictators.

      That poses the question though, at what point do the people need to get together to forcibly stop gun control? Like the people in California and N.Y. have their rights so restricted it's insane. Should they have taken their 30 round mags and said no? By the time people start pointing their guns and saying no more they'll have 4 round mags in .22 short and muzzleloaders.

    I bought 2 of the first gen M&P 15 sport in 2006/7 for 399 ea at Academy. I got them to be used as ranch guns that can be tossed in the back of ATVs or sheds to have one close by as you never know when you might need it. They have been perfect. I've never shot better than a 2" group but I've also never not shot 2" groups with it because it is so consistent and reliable. The confidence Bill talks about is real. It's just a very intuitive rifle that's very easy to handle and is extremely tough. The A2 post and Magpul sights are accurate right out of the box. I've never had to sight either rifle and when I put them on my heavy duty bench vice and shot them at my fixed 100 yard target I use for sighting my guns, they shot identical. A cattleman buddy of mine has the same M&P and his shoots exactly the same, the consistency is mind boggling. He also has the newer M&P Sport 2 and unless you're using it's preferred ammo it's not as consistently accurate as the 1st gen in which you can use any trash round and get the same results but this isn't for bench shooting any way - it's a tool.

I put a white mark at the top (like Hickok45) to help me see the front sight better and I also put one on towards the bottom of the sight just before it flares out. Reason being is the bottom one has me spot on at the shorter indoor 25 yard range. Enjoy!!

    I picked up the gen II yesterday. I was amazed with the trigger like he said. Also, mine was zeroed for 50 yards from the factory so that was a huge plus. The only downside I can see with the gun is the barrel if you plan on shooting several thousand rounds out of it. But it is a mil spec upper so I guess you could always swap the barrel out when it's life is over. I own two Spikes ARs and honestly after shooting the S&W there isn't much difference. It's a great gun for the money.
