I completely understand the whole walkthrough thingy to get the true ending. It's requirements is pretty.. weird after all. But actually just hunting for it, over and over again, loading save after save, going over mail after mail trying every little thing, is truly a special experience. when you finally get the true ending, you feel so much closer to Okabe and his struggles.
I only watched the anime, but i can tell you that shit is amazing, and it's now one of my favorite anime ever, and nothing even comes close to the experience of watching it. It's the ultimate form of time travel stories.
If you loved the anime then you will certainly love elite even more! The added characterization the change in medium adds improves it more than you can imagine. The anime is one of my favorites ever so I'm glad they did both source materials justice
I wonder why you said that? I'm a newcomer to the franchise. Because someone recommended this to me. So I will start with the anime soon. Btw I'm on my last semester. Should I continue or stop?
@@phillipyau8192 Just watch the anime first, because the VN is better. You don't get all the details in what Okabe is thinking in the anime, so it's a different experience.
This makes me want to cry to see someone else's love for this story, for the same reasons, and at the same times,. It influenced my life more than anything else, it influenced my mind and heart, this really makes me want to cry

Zsurvivalist suzuha looks cuter in the original, they totally fucked up the shape of faris‘ Head but i like that Mayuri looks more mature in it and Luka looks pretty ok (just like shining finger)
Refloni oh, right. I don’t like anime kurisus design either like her hair used to be a reddish brown now it’s plain red and her VN counterpart had more sass in it
Having watched the anime first, then played the VITA/original version, and currently playing Elite, it's a close tie between the Elite version and VITA. Mostly because I liked the original art style in the VITA/original. But wow, I'm blown away in the first minutes. This is the future of visual novels for consoles. It's a 9 out of 10 for me. If you've never played Steins; Gate or seen the anime, get this version.

I might get a strange opinion about this, but I actually prefer that they removed the phone whenever you want, it gives you a false impression that you can interact with other characters, while you actually can't. I would have enjoyed some customization from the game's menu at least though.
Been years since i watched the anime and this would be the perfect way to get back into Steins;Gate content. So i just bought it for switch now im hyped and sounds promising from this video.
I hope you enjoy the game! Having a switch is perfect for more SciADV games since more of them keep getting ported to switch, it's a great time to be a fan :v
Amazing review- you really summed up why the VN is a superior way of experiencing S;G, and all the improvements they’ve made with Elite. I’m just so jealous of people who don’t know the story yet.... not sure it’s worth buying at full price if I’ve already experienced every twist and turn BUT for newbies, there’s literally NO REASON NOT TO PICK IT UP.
Your video was the perfect answer to my question! Thank you so much. I’m definitely gonna have to pick this up as someone who has never experienced Steins gate, if I liked Danganronpa I think I will like this after seeing your video
This is how I see it in a nutshell: -If you just watched the anime, want more details and aren't used to VNs. Get Elite. It's the best way to get into the visual novels of the Science Advenure series. -If you read the VN, but haven't watched the anime, Elite is still worth getting for the animation and extra stories. However, you don't have to if you really don't want to. I do think it would be a cool experience though if you haven't seen the anime. -If you've seen both the anime and original VN like I have, then your most likely on the fence as to why you should get this outside of the extra stories. Personally, there isn't really a reason for me besides the extra stories. I recommend waiting for a sale if you even want it in the first place However, if you are a hardcore fan of this series and want to support it fully, do go ahead and buy it. I want to see the other SciAdv novels localized, but I just ain't that much of a fan. More of a 07th Expansion kind of guy lol
Well, I owe SBB a thanks yet again. This was an excellent video and love how it was edited. I agree with the vast majority. I LOVE VNs, but I love to be surprised with an ending. It's always a riot when I start a game and find that my first choice sent me careening to the bad ending after only a few hours of playing. I only ever really get a guide if I absolutely cannot figure out how to get the ending I want. But that's just me. I was debating on picking this up, and you definitely just sold me. Gonna get on switch. That NES port sounds sweet. 😄
Awesome to hear, I'm glad Buns shared it so many more people know about this awesome game! She's my inspiration for becoming a content creator and one of my best friends ever ^-^;
Now I can finally take his place and feel what he felt, Daru I mean, he's always playing these interactive games in the anime, I wanted to see what's got him hooked up
This video was a great intro to Steins;Gate, been on the fence for quite some time with this game but you might just have convinced me to get it! Keep up the great work!
This is really what I was hoping they’d make years ago after trying to get thru the visual novels... this series is my absolute favorite anime, I’m freaking stoked good video dude!
My friends have talked about Steins;Gate forever since the anime came out but no one really said what it was about so I never looked into it. Just laying down the premise at 2:55 got me excited, and i'm definitely going to mark this game down as something to play when I make time. The anime hybrid of Elite is interesting cause I've never seen or heard of a VN doing anything like this before, but I also really appreciate the simplicity of the VN format so I'm not sure which one I want to get.
And it supports the new rights holder bring even more titles to the west, which buying the original doesn't really do since they didn't localize that version.
I really appreciate your video here. I bought the VN on Steam a few years back, but kept putting it off and eventually watched the anime last year. I'm excited to pick up Elite now, and having it on the Switch will be great!
Amazing to hear!!!! The true ending is really something special, and I'm glad you gave it a chance. There are many more amazing games in this series I hope you give a shot ^-^
I played the the original VN and watched the anime (same about zero) and I think I'll buy this too because I'm a huge fan of Steins;Gate and I think this game will fit for someone like me. Thank you for this video, it really helped me made up my mind
Hard agree on all of this. Best way to enjoy one of the best VNs out there, and I feel like its aesthetic will make it especially welcome to newcomers who enjoyed the anime but were perhaps on the fence about giving the VN a shot. Great review as always! You worked super hard on this and it paid off :>
I tried to compare the original with Elite and although the original art is more detailed, I love the anime-style. Looking through the beginning of the game, the quirky personalities of the main character and the female sidekick really shines through a lot more in Elite. What put me off was that Elite were missing some of the script. But it didn't seem to be any crucial information so I feel like the pros outweigh the cons. The bonus game on PS4 makes it feel like a no-brainer. But there's no way I'll play this with a walkthrough before atleast giving it 2-3 tries. You only get one chance for a true blind attempt where you're fully in control of the decisions. Since I got into this series late, I actually got to play Chaos Head first, and I loved that game after just 1 playthrough and what I think is the generic ending. I tried to put myself in his shoes and made my decisions based on that. That's what I plan to do with this game too. I think it will be easier in Steins Gate since the decision-making seems to be more straightforward.
Now this is quality content, major kudos for not spoiling. It really annoys me when a TH-camr just spoils a event. Literally happened to me not to long ago with another game.
I just felt the need to thank you for talking about this, for all the effort you put into this single video that is so well made studiously! I finished Stains;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 a couple of years ago, it was one of my first animes and even today it still holds a very special place in my heart, I loved the anime and thought about rewatching the two seasons but in a turn of events I stumble upon this video about some -"Visual Novel" that is actually a game (I never read or played something like this) and I gotta say you completely convinced me to! I just felt like thanking you in advance because now I will be able to experience one of my favorites piece of media ever, in a better way than the first time!? I am damn excited!
i've played Steins Gate and Steins Gate 0 long time ago, and i've watched all the anime too, but i think its time to revisit it once again so i feel like Elite should be a great way to revisit Steins Gate as it basically same like the VN(?) and has new animation, i know for a fact the riding bicycle animation never existed on the anime, then finally play Steins Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram and Darling Embrace as i never actually played them before... The plan is set 1. Steins Gate Elite 2. Steins Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram 3. Steins Gate Darling Embrace
There's alot of comments here still outright dismissing Elite despite Cullen having made this whole video on the topic of why it shouldn't be dismissed. We ALL were sceptical yet it seems like it delivers something new, isn't a cash grab, isn't a step down etc. Anyone here saying otherwise also seem like they haven't even played it? Either way, good video. Got me super hype for a game I originally was going to skip.
It seems that most people who shit on it never played it, but just want to hate it on principle alone. I know I can't change everyone's opinions, I just hope I can convince people to be less close minded :v
@@kamronspencer4910 I'm was also skeptical on reveal, but the execution is really what makes it shine so much. Hope they do another one and build off what they learned!
I'm somewhat torn. I loved the original but didn't really like the anime. The anime is fine, don't get me wrong, but some changes just seemed unnecessary, like Suzuha's actions when she first sees Kurisu (she simply glares at her in the VN while going into a full on battle stance in the anime, it's like the animators forgot the meaning of the word "subtle") and an important spoiler scene. I hope Elite stays stays as close to the original as possible. I think I'm gonna pick this up either way at some point. Ever since I played the original I've picked up both 0 and Chaos;Child when they released to support the developers and the potential of new releases in the west. I really want Robotics;Notes at some point.
Honestly that's completely valid. I just think Elite deserves an open minded chance, and supporting it just brings us closer to an official localization for NoAH and R;N. It ain't perfect, but I still adore it
I just want the other science adventure games localized. I don't want more Steins;Gate stuff and I don't want to spend that much on something I basically already have. I would totally be up to buy Chaos;Head Noah and Robotics;Notes though. That being said, I do plan to buy Chaos;Child and Steins;Gate 0, but I refuse to play Chaos;Child until I get Chaos;Head Noah. While it is sperate, it will drive me insane if I read it first. I'm sure we'll get them all localized at some point.
@@martyr_lightsilver1833 you're only going to get those by supporting the series in the west. NoAH and R;N are dependent on the sales of Elite. If Elite sells well in the west then Spike will see there's a market here and keep localizing the games in the series. That's how all localization companies work unfortunately. Besides, phenogram makes up for the $60 price.
@@culIen True, but I'm not paying a full 60 for that game. I'll wait until it goes on sale and I can get it for cheap. I care more about getting Higurashi Chapter 7 and the remaining Corpse Party games on release date than I do about buying Steins;Gate Elite. Heck, I haven't even gotten Resident Evil 2 yet. Either way, Science Adventure series is on the back burner for me right now.
BigStupidJellyfish really? Suzuha and Kurisus Encounters being subtle? No way, everytime they were „fighting“ they gave you a image where both of them are standing in fight stances while their hypercarged personas were ready to attack, a standoff of legends.
Thanks dude! Thanks to you I know its safe to buy and with no spoilers as well! (Im fresh to the series. I want to watch the show but put it off. I'm excited to play the game now)
Awesome to hear! This is a great entry point in the Science Adventure series and I hope that you end up loving it! There are a lot of other amazing games that I hope get localized after Elite that you check out because this series is something special ^-^
Surprised to see so many people not sure if it's worth rebuying so screw it imma start working on a full playthrough video series. Let the game speak for itself
I think I forgot to comment the first time I saw this so I'm leaving this comment for the sake of getting this video more views and thus more sales for Elite so we get more sci;adv vn's in the west I really like Steins;Gate. Stories are my absolute greatest passion in this life. Steins;Gate is without a doubt one of my favorite stories, period, across any and all mediums. Please buy this game, for yourself and for everyone else.
Thank you for your support! I would recommend signing the Operation Hiddenhand petition to support the localization of Robotics;Notes and then share it around ^-^
As a long time huge fan of Steins; Gate Series, I am really hesitated to pick this one up for few reasons. First, I cannot really think of getting this one while I know most of the animation from TV series basically has been copied and pasted to Elite except they made few differences, from a perspective of a person who already owns two original VNs. Second, I also want to buy on the other hand because they included Linear Bounded Phenogram where they showed the trailer on steam and it wrenched my heart with nostalgia by playing very nostalgic melody, same lingering feeling as back then when I was crying all over the story of Steins; Gate, rewatching like three times. I honestly don't care a lot of minor stories that Steins; Gate Franchise made since there are just countless numerous minor products out there as in a form of light novel, radio drama CD, few minor games and etcetera to venture. It's just too many to experience all of them unless you got all your time on this as a hardcore fan. These sentences might give you a feeling of very negative thoughts but because of these reasons, I would personally like to wait a bit more to drop down their prices since I don't mind waiting and binging things, and while waiting, my hope for them to be remaking Steins; Gate Zero in a form of live animation play like Elite as well would bring a time that already has became dropped their price in a significant amount although I highly assume I will be waiting for Steins; Gate Zero remake to be dropping their price as well, which will require a significant amount of time to be passed. In conclusion, I do not mind them remaking Steins; Gate series because I get to enjoy them whenever I want to. On the other hand, I don't understand that they are not technically remaking but copy and pasting original animation to the game makes not much affection to either new audience to the game and long time hardcore fans. Overall, I appreciate Chiyomaru making various attempts to differentiate the franchise because it generates more variety of media providing to the customers but wish they attempted to make almost whole new different concept of games, although I cannot deny the fact that my thought in the little corner provoked a feeling of welcoming beloving nostalgia once again. I really appreciate your time and effort on making this beloving introduction video for new comers to the Steins; Gate Franchise. Although I might have given you a negative impression but as a long time ago nostalgic fan of this series, I always would like to discuss about Steins; Gate with more broader audiences.
Thank you for an incredibly reasonable response/critique. I understand people's hesitance on Elite, as it is technically unnecessary, but I like how it appeals to newcomers. Chiyo's ideas don't always hit, but I have to give it to his team for nailing the execution on it. I appreciate your compliment, and I'm happy people can see a video like this as more than just a mindless circlejerk. I hope the entire series can continue to be this innovative, and I have... hopefully high hopes for Anonymous;Code.
@@culIen Thanks for your unexpectedly fast and instant comment. I suppose the more attention and appreciation you put, the better insight you will have on noticing more details and that might be the reason why we usually see the fans always easily criticizing and downsiding the author by saying "The book was better." If I ever get to grab the Elite, I might be satisfying myself by thinking that I bought a game that plays the whole animation compare to the waste you could have spent on buying each individual episodes of Blu-Ray Discs which cost like $20 each, including two to three episodes usually.
I wholeheartedly agree with this comment. Put exactly how I feel into words. I'm willing to buy it if the price goes down, but for now, it can wait. Just seems redundant as someone who has watched both the anime and read the VN. (I'm not big on experiencing a story twice, unless there is a lot of depth. Though, Steins;Gate kinda lacks a reason for me experience three times because it is really character driven) I grew up reading hundreds of books, so I always go back to the source material. If an anime is highly rated, I will almost always check out the source material before experiencing it. It's why I put off the Steins;Gate anime to experience the visual novel. Needless to say, it was totally worth it. I complete understand how you feel about the side stories as well. To be honest, I don't care about them much either. Even Steins;Gate 0 seems boring to me. But if there is a sale, I will still buy 0 and Elite support the series. I think it's at least worth a quick skim if you've read the original. Also, Anonymous;Code is coming out, and I believe Occultic;Nine is getting some major improvements as well. Honestly, super hyped for those games. If they are localized, I would immediately buy them off the shelf. Same goes for any other Science Adventure game. If I do buy any game of the series full price though, it will be Chaos;Child, (but I'm not playing it until Chaos;Head Noah arrives). However, I will get Elite and 0 once the price drops or there is a sale.
I see you linked to the OG's flowchart, so even with the slim down(and also I misunderstood) the restructure of routes, it's still possible to follow the 100% guide(at least for route endings)? That's nice. Also great video! Shoutout to dusk.
It's a true shame you can't just bring up your phone when ever... I always got to much enjoyment out of during serious talk just thinking about what would happen when mid-convo he just starts look at his phone. Then again, I guess it kind of fit his personality at least early on.
@@waterflame1871 Yeah, I agree. Wish they could have figured out a way to implement that, but I seriously can't come up with what they could have done :/
@@culIenThe way they could’ve made it work is if after pressing a button to access the phone they cut to a close shot of Okabe against a blank white background taking his phone out and looking down at it. Then cut to over his shoulder with the camera looking downward at a close up of the phone so we the player can see it. Then we are able to interact with the camera. It would’ve been a longer transition but it would’ve worked imo. Having it against a white background is necessary to because they wouldn’t be able to do those two camera angles with every single background in the entire game. The anime used white backgrounds for certain moment like Hououin Kyouma poses already so this makes sense to me.
Great job on the review, thanks for keeping it spoiler free (as much as that's possible anyway. For real, if anyone that happens to watch this before seeing Steins;Gate, just do yourself a favor and watch it. It's even better when you go in with out any knowledge and just trust all the people that say it's amazing.
Fresh Pink Apples no, Suzuha is the best. Asassin Training, fit Body, compassionate character, what can a man wish more? (Also her ending has the perfect bittersweetness to it and got me to tears first time I played it. Mayuris ending just made me feel sick like making a photo with a corpse)
Just pre ordered the limited edition on switch. Been waiting forever for this. Can't wait to own my favorite visual novel ever on my favorite console ever
Mayuri is best girl and the only one Okabe truly loves. Look at Okabes life in a releationship with Mayuri and Kurisu death and Okabes life in a releationship with Kurisu and Mayuri death. See the big difference of how happy Okabe is in the first one and how broken he is in the second one :)
Yeah you are right. I was also once a Kurisu shipper but after figuring out all those symbolisms, what stardust handshake really means and why Okabe really became Kyouma and after playing the Mayuri route in Renri no Darling i can totally see how those two totally belong together.
Okabe canonically loves Kurisu though, and the true ending is centered around her. He loves Mayuri like a little sister. 0 goes as far to further say that while Mayuri loves Okabe romantically, Okabe loves her platonically and never gets over Kurisu
@Chandler Broderick The canon rights it off though, the chemistry between Okabe and Mayuri is massively underdeveloped and in everything but Darling they spend the time showing that Okabe only sees her as a little sister
@@culIen Im sorry but thats not really true. There are so many signs that he really loves her more than anything but people are just overlooking them. Whew.. where should i even start? He says that she is like a little sister to him but thats just him forcing himself to see her that way. He is forcing himself to see Mayuri as someone who he needs to protect because Mayuri is too pure and innocent so he doesnt dare to make a move on her. The thing is Mayuris route alone proves that he doesnt see her as a little sister cause he immediately responds to her feelings. He wouldnt do that if he wouldnt love her. As soon Okabe is aware of her feelings for him he would immediately respond to them. So lets look at the other hints. Mayuri was the first girl he kissed. Even though they were kids she was still the first girl. Then there is also the fact the he became Kyouma just because of her. He changed his own persona just because of her! Why did he do it? Because he was too embarrassed to tell her to stay with him. If he would see her as a little sister he wouldnt be embarrassed. We know exactly that Okabe isnt honest regarding his own feelings. He is always awkward about that stuff. Then there is also the question from Kurisu when she asks him if there is a girl he is in love with. The first girl he thinks about is Mayuri. Her face was flashing first in his mind but Okabe quickly brushes it off and thinking again: No, Mayuri is someone i have to protect. Here we see again how Okabe is forcing himself to believe that. Then we have all the moments with stardust handshake. Mayuri only does it when she is alone with Okabe or when she is thinking about him. It represents Orihime trying to reach hikoboshi. Whenever Okabe sees it he gets quiet and talks softly to Mayuri like he feels that it has something to do with them. He always wondered what the meaning of it was. There was also one time when he asked her about the meaning of it but before she could answer she died... Then we also have the depiction of how the releationship goes with Mayuri on the beta worldline and with Kurisu on the alpha world line. One is the end of the Mayuri route and the other is Okabes visit to the alpha worldline in SG0 where he meets Kurisu. He is clearly much happier with Mayuri. Then there is also the big thing in SG0, the memories that always hunted him throughout the whole game and gave him ptsd was him killing Kurisu. But after reading Mayuris confession letter it was stated that his heart was in as much pain as it was when he killed Kurisu. We know exactly how traumatic that event was for him and thats what makes this line so much more powerful. Mayuris confession was actually the cause that let him move on and overcome Kurisus death. If she confessed to him earlier a lot of stuff would have been different. I believe his main goal after that was to build the tracker time machine and go after his orihime while along the way he would make the movie mail and send it to his past self to save Kurisu. But future Okabes goal was searching for Mayuri. And even if renri no darling is not canon it shows us again how great they are together. They have such a deep connection on so many levels, you cant even compare it with Kurisu. Not only does he love her more than anything and is willing to do anything for her, Mayuri also loves him more than Kurisu ever could. And there is so much more to say about them. I could even write a whole thesis about it but i would need to write that in my own language. With english i think i covered most of the points that shows that Okabe truly loves her.
Whenever I saw somebody complaining about Elite, I would usually bring up that at the very least we get a free game with it depending on the platform you get it on but I never checked back to see if anybody responded lol Not sure how anybody could disagree with what you said since your points are pretty solid! But if somebody does disagree, they might change their minds if they actually sit down and go through this version 🖒
@@굊-z6l since there is no sequel VN series outside of Daru being in Robotics;Notes DaSH. If you want a follow up to steins;Gate, the Robotics;Notes double pack comes out in around a month for ps4, switch, and pc!
Thanks for the review of this VN. It's been a while since I watched this amime and the OG VN. You also have a great taste for Kurisu. I believe there is an another game that has the same style as this one. Well, it's School Days. (Uwaaahhh... the protagonist in School Days sucks.)
I will buy this after my paycheck arrives. Even tho I played/watched everything. And hey Linear bounded phenogram is included in Elite for FREE! El Psy Kongroo~
Yeah same here, its not a priority game for me. Since i played the original VN and Phenogram already. But i would love to own this PS4 version and see for myself what i feel about it. I still prefer the original artstyle tho
I'm not really a big fan of the elite version. The Anime pictures aren't meant to be stared at for a long amount of time and it shows. Looking at them for more than 2 minutes is enough to be annoyed by the style they are going for. It just seems bland and uninspired. It's probably good for new people to be eased into VN, however, I see no reason for someone who is already into them to start this over the Normal version. The art style is just way more appealing for this to be worthwhile. Also, showing the animation with A LOT to read in the bottom seems a complete waste to me. It's different in an Anime format because just a quick glance to the bottom makes you understand what is written there. By the time you are done reading the text, the animation is already over. But it isn't because the game circumvents this by not giving you a lot to read and drip fiding it to you completely ruining the pace for me. I'm a fast reader and it bugs me to no end having to stop every sentence just so that the animation can catch back up Also. While it shows a bit more of the things the Anime glances over. It skips way too much of the stuff that was never included in the Anime in the first place but was in the VN. Hell, I will never forget the 1-hour long conversation Okabe and Kurisu had in a room of people about the different time travel Theories and why they could work but don't right now. That was easily one of my fav parts which the anime just glanced over with "She thinks she is high and mighty because she's a genius". The next thing is the Phone. OH GOD, THE PHONE. The phone had a big role in the OG VN. Answering and responding to text was what guided you to different endings or routes. This has been reduced a lot and is my biggest critic to the game That doesn't mean that the elite is a failure or has no purpose. I'm glad it came out and I can def. see the market for it. It's just not for me. Stein;gate is my fav Anime and VN. I'm happy that it opens up more ways for people to get invested in the series and raise awareness for it. In the end, "elite" is not an enhancement to the VN and if someone is expecting it as such they will be disappointed like me. If you are expecting an enhancement to the Anime though? This is for you. This dragged on for far too long so I will leave you with my wishes for you to enjoy the ride El Psy Kongroo
Many of the scenes in Elite were delegated to optional scenes based on phone triggers, making their use more significant. There were some scenes cut, but a lot of it is actually still there but only show up depending on your phone triggers. I haven't figured out how it all works, but numerous friends have mine have stated their experiences were very different than mine (for example I didn't get gelmayuri, a friend also going for true ending did). Sorry to hear it wasn't your thing, but that's all totally fair and it's not for everyone. Hope you at least join the bonus game and thank you for supporting the series!
@@culIen Ty for using your Time to respond to my comment The problem that I have with that set up is that, while it makes the use of the phone more significant and streamlined, it makes the rare occasion it does show up an obvious " The world will remember this". While having the access to the phone for the entire game, a lot of choices may not matter much however you don't know if this text, the next or the one that came before will alter the future. The phone has just become a way to disguise the question "do you want to enter route A,B or C" without adding anything to it. While it was also the purpose of that in the OG VN, It feels way too obvious now and less like a feature.
@@optidalfprime3904 Are you referring to the branches in chapter 6 and on? Yeah I agree with you there, but I meant more that how you respond to emails more effectively give the player access to a variety of new scenes that are subtly implemented like the original game
Big moon. I know the original VN has super stylized art style, and using the footage from the anime seem like a step down. Though, as you said. The hybrid design offer a perfect mix, between fusing the duration of a VN, while being visually interesting thanks to anime footage. I've watched the anime two times already, but next time around. I'm going to give this a shot instead! Thanks for the wonderful review, of everyone favorite mad scientist. I hope you have a great day, Doc! El Psy Kongroo. ;D
I actually really hated the idea of this game when it was first announced but, after seeing the game as it got closer to release and in your video, it does look a lot better than I was expecting. I was actually just playing the Yarudora games on the original PlayStation for a video of my own and Elite reminds me a lot of the presentation of those games (both being mostly fully animated VNs). Hopefully 5pb will make a game that has completely original footage someday since it seems like a cool idea that could be taken further. Anyway, great video!
Iirc, Yarudora was an inspiration for elite. I'm really hoping that if the game does well they can make an original Hybrid SciADV game, or a remake that takes a title and remakes it from scratch (chaos;head... please)
I played regular Steins Gate for my first experience even tho I bought boght versions. If I had to recomend someone to play sg I would definitely recommend the elite version but if I had to recommend to myself from the past I would still prefer regular over elite
I'll pick this up, I was playing through the game on my Vita but decided to stop and wait for this version (I got every ending except for the true ending).
@@sapphie132 thank you very much! I'm glad you're loving it so much. When you finish I highly recommend giving more of the science adventure games a shot! None of the other anime series do them justice.
I just finished the original VN. Now I'm playing SG0. I heard 0 will get a Elite-Version too. VN-Anime-Hybrids do seem to have a lot of potential. I wonder if other VNs will go the same route.
Great Review. I've been meaning to play the original version of Steins;Gate after watching the anime but I like that 5pb made a version of the game based on the anime so I look forward to playing it tomorrow. Here's hoping we get more 5pb and Mages games localized by Spike Chunsoft US. I'm looking forward to checking out Yu-No when it releases later this year.
Great video bro keep it up your doing amazing job also what is your through on the live action stein's gate series which we are getting in the next few years and are you going to make a video about it if you haven't yet??? 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Thank you for this video Cullen! I've been on the fence about whether I should purchase this game. I haven't played Steins;Gate yet (although I've been interested for years), and I wasn't sure if the original game would provide a better experience. Thanks to your video, my sister and I will pick up this game tomorrow! also yes dusk is perfect :):):)

If I bought this now I would fail college lmao

I wonder why you said that? I'm a newcomer to the franchise. Because someone recommended this to me. So I will start with the anime soon. Btw I'm on my last semester. Should I continue or stop?
@@phillipyau8192 Just watch the anime first, because the VN is better. You don't get all the details in what Okabe is thinking in the anime, so it's a different experience.
This makes me want to cry to see someone else's love for this story, for the same reasons, and at the same times,. It influenced my life more than anything else, it influenced my mind and heart, this really makes me want to cry
Thank you so much

Can perfectly understand you bro, same here
just hearing the soundtracks again makes me wanna play again.
I mean I still prefer the original VN art style but I can see why people would enjoy this.
It's hit or miss. The art style is great but Okabe looks butt ugly sometimes
Kurisu looks super derpy in the anime.
Mayuri looks awful
Was on eBay trying to decide between getting the vita or the switch game. Saw ur comment and bought the elite version on switch

OK BUT... Can you change the phone wallpaper?
Nah, that's part of the concessions I mentioned. You can't take your phone out at will. I get why they did it, but it's my only gripe with the game
Shame, but I'll still enjoy it nonetheless. Can't wait for my limited edition to come in for my switch

No phone? so there's also no 8bit ringtones. SAD

Thank you very much! This is a series very dear to me so I hope this game succeeds so I can see more entries come west ^-^
Hope you love Elite!
Here i am,exactly 1 year later watching this video for the first time without knowing anything about it. This is the will of Steins;Gate!

This is how I see it in a nutshell:
-If you just watched the anime, want more details and aren't used to VNs.

This video was a great intro to Steins;Gate, been on the fence for quite some time with this game but you might just have convinced me to get it! Keep up the great work!
That's awesome!!!!! I'm really hyped that Elite will bring in a bunch of new fans!
Steins gate elite is now my preferred way to experience steins gate
Elite would probably be the best bet, since it comes with 2 games!
And it supports the new rights holder bring even more titles to the west, which buying the original doesn't really do since they didn't localize that version.
I literally just watched the anime, gonna play this now
spoiler free is super under rated and highly appreciated
I really appreciate your video here. I bought the VN on Steam a few years back, but kept putting it off and eventually watched the anime last year. I'm excited to pick up Elite now, and having it on the Switch will be great!
i literally just finished your chaos;child review and now suddenly i have more cullen to enjoy. what an amazing coincidence

Hard agree on all of this. Best way to enjoy one of the best VNs out there, and I feel like its aesthetic will make it especially welcome to newcomers who enjoyed the anime but were perhaps on the fence about giving the VN a shot.

@@culIen Would you say this is the definitive way to play it or is playing the original better?
@@Plestora
The original is better by a mile. If you want animations just watch the anime.
This was my intro to Steins;Gate and I absolutely loved it. Can't recommend it enough.
I love Steins;Gate. I played the original VN and watched the anime 5 times, and you convinced me to get the elite version.
I loved the anime & after hearing what you said about elite I'm now very intrigued in getting it but will have to get it digital.

The plan is set
1. Steins Gate Elite
2. Steins Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram
3. Steins Gate Darling Embrace
thnx for the info, I was kinda skeptical but now I'm sure what my next purchase is

DrCullenPHD I will say I was skeptical when I heard about it but from what I’ve seen so far it seems good
@@kamronspencer4910 I'm was also skeptical on reveal, but the execution is really what makes it shine so much. Hope they do another one and build off what they learned!

Great video! Love the side tangents on Kurisu, which are 100% correct. If I could like twice I would.
It is the will of Steins;Gate that you do! Sunovabitch!

Though, Steins;Gate kinda lacks a reason for me experience three times because it is really character driven)
I grew up reading hundreds of books, so I always go back to the source material.
However, I will get Elite and 0 once the price drops or there is a sale.
really glad I watched this review. was on the line between not buying this and buying this, but this solidified a hard buy.

I have not played this game. This makes me even more excited about playing it (the original, not Elite version specifically).
I see you linked to the OG's flowchart, so even with the slim down(and also I misunderstood) the restructure of routes, it's still possible to follow the 100% guide(at least for route endings)? That's nice. Also great video!
Shoutout to dusk.
Things are a bit different, but it at least tells you how to respond to Kurisu's emails to get the true end so atm it's the best solution
I only played that for the platinum trophy because its free for ps+ extra members... it tooks 3h for me

@@culIen
Im sorry but thats not really true.
The ultimate steins;gate shill has uploaded once again!
MUAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This was the choice of Steins;Gate.
@@blakecurry3880 Operation Shilld... must be a success
im here waiting for SG0 Elite, im obsessed with the SG0 anime
Thanks for making this video! I re-watched the anime like 3 -4 times already and Idk why I thought it was a waste of time if I'm going all in anyway
Its a shame that no Australian Stores are stocking this :(
Seriously??? Is it at least possible to get it digitally?
You people always get the short end of the stick.
Ozgameshop had it, but that's about it
Yeah I was waiting for an Australian preorder to be announced, but I realised it’s already on PS store. Digital download only I’m afraid.
Whenever I saw somebody complaining about Elite, I would usually bring up that at the very least we get a free game with it depending on the platform you get it on but I never checked back to see if anybody responded lol
Not sure how anybody could disagree with what you said since your points are pretty solid!
But if somebody does disagree, they might change their minds if they actually sit down and go through this version 🖒
alright u convinced me... Im buying the game
Yay! Hope you enjoy your time with it ^-^
@@culIen I will let you know ;)
Just got the OG one on december steam sale, guess I'll go do that and come back here after...
I concur. Shoutout to Dusk.
I clapped
Wow I missed this

Hell yeah 😎👍
Some might even say it was the choice of Steins Gate...

@@culIen hey do u think this anime will season 3?
@@굊-z6l since there is no sequel VN series outside of Daru being in Robotics;Notes DaSH. If you want a follow up to steins;Gate, the Robotics;Notes double pack comes out in around a month for ps4, switch, and pc!
@@culIen Aww, I really wish it has one in the future. This anime is a really fckin masterpiece!
Thanks for the review of this VN. It's been a while since I watched this amime and the OG VN. You also have a great taste for Kurisu.
I believe there is an another game that has the same style as this one. Well, it's School Days. (Uwaaahhh... the protagonist in School Days sucks.)
I like the art of the original VN better, so the plan is to play the original one first, and after about 2 years play the second version.
Sure, go for it yo
I will buy this after my paycheck arrives. Even tho I played/watched everything. And hey Linear bounded phenogram is included in Elite for FREE!
El Psy Kongroo~
HELL YEAH IT IS
Yeah same here, its not a priority game for me. Since i played the original VN and Phenogram already. But i would love to own this PS4 version and see for myself what i feel about it. I still prefer the original artstyle tho
Thanks man, one year later and this video helped me A LOT.
El psy kongroo.
I'm a fast reader and it bugs me to no end having to stop every sentence just so that the animation can catch back up
Also.
This has been reduced a lot and is my biggest critic to the game
That doesn't mean that the elite is a failure or has no purpose.
This dragged on for far too long so I will leave you with my wishes for you to enjoy the ride
El Psy Kongroo
Many of the scenes in Elite were delegated to optional scenes based on phone triggers, making their use more significant. There were some scenes cut, but a lot of it is actually still there but only show up depending on your phone triggers. I haven't figured out how it all works, but numerous friends have mine have stated their experiences were very different than mine (for example I didn't get gelmayuri, a friend also going for true ending did). Sorry to hear it wasn't your thing, but that's all totally fair and it's not for everyone. Hope you at least join the bonus game and thank you for supporting the series!
@@culIen Ty for using your Time to respond to my comment
The problem that I have with that set up is that, while it makes the use of the phone more significant and streamlined, it makes the rare occasion it does show up an obvious " The world will remember this".
@@culIen Ah yes, i can agree on that one
Bang on review cullens. Looks like I’m buying both versions
HELL YEAH GAMER
I don't even have a console yet and I'm going to need to get both versions.
El Psy Kongroo.
;D
I’m very interested in VN’s. Most of my exposure has been Phoenix Wright. You’ve sold me on this game and AI
I'm really hoping that if the game does well they can make an original Hybrid SciADV game, or a remake that takes a title and remakes it from scratch (chaos;head... please)
Glad to hear that this went the way I thought it would. Hopefully Zero gets the same treatment in the future.
GOD THAT'D BE AMAZING. COMBINING THE STORY IMPROVEMENTS OF THE ANIME WITH THE STRUCTURE OF THE VN WOULD BE SO RAD
@@culIen Also Gehenna's Stigma fully animated
I played regular Steins Gate for my first experience even tho I bought boght versions. If I had to recomend someone to play sg I would definitely recommend the elite version but if I had to recommend to myself from the past I would still prefer regular over elite
I'll pick this up, I was playing through the game on my Vita but decided to stop and wait for this version (I got every ending except for the true ending).
Hope you enjoy it ^-^
Been playing it. Love it. Bought it because of this video. Thank you
I'd already seen the anime, but Elite is better
As someone who also loved the anime I think I have postponed the VN enough and I'll get to it this year!
Great video bro keep it up your doing amazing job also what is your through on the live action stein's gate series which we are getting in the next few years and are you going to make a video about it if you haven't yet??? 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Ordered it a few days ago and will be here in a day or two. Oh god save me
Hope you end up loving it just as much as I did ^-^
I think I would miss the original artwork to be honest. Important thing is that this visual novel is simply incredible however you play it.
Maybe we will get another season of this great anime who knows. If we get that im gonna cry like a Little baby❤️
Thank you for this video Cullen! I've been on the fence about whether I should purchase this game. I haven't played Steins;Gate yet (although I've been interested for years), and I wasn't sure if the original game would provide a better experience. Thanks to your video, my sister and I will pick up this game tomorrow!
