Your the first youtube Jon boat restorer I've seen to actually paint with a respirator. Props for being safe and not giving bad advice to your viewers.
WOW! That's an unbelievable restoration, dude. You took that boat from "near-basket case" to really nice. It's proof that old aluminum boats never die. They just need a coat of paint every 25 years.
Man the more I watch videos about people sanding down and repainting there boats. The less I want to do it I think I might just squint at my boat. Mine Looks great from a long way away.
What's up man ?? You got it looking good !! I just restored mine I have the same boat. Can you tell me which company made it , the name of the boat and year built. It would help me out a lot.
How's the aluma hawk holding up? I just did mine with a roller and brush. I read that spraying wasn't recommended because it dries so quick but it was a nightmare getting this thick, quick drying paint in all the nooks and crannies with a roller. Wish I tried spraying it first. Letting it cure for the week before I put it back on the trailer but I worry ill have peeling or chipping issues in some spots that went on thick with the brush
It’s holding up good, but I haven’t taken it out much. I’m in the process of doing some other mods to it. Hopefully I can get it done before spring rolls around.
Getting a pretty setup 14ft Jon boat this weekend from a buddy who just got a small bass boat. Getting a good deal on it but it has some leaky rivets, how's that gluvit holding up for you??
It’s holding up great as far as I can tell. I had never taken the boat out before I applied the Gluvit, so I don’t know if it was leaking previously. It definitely doesn’t leak now though.
I dedicated an entire weekend to sanding and the gluvit. Not sure exactly how many hours I spent, but probably 7-8. I’m sure I could have gotten by with spending less. I was trying to get most of the original paint off which was unnecessary.
Hope you bought it cheap. It’s amazing how much money a guy can sink a project. I’ve done one and now doing a second, sometimes your better paying more up front, have a better boat that commands a higher price. PS. I’m a cheesehead and cheap as the day is long.
In Kentucky, you don’t have to have a boating license if you have a driver’s license. You can get a boating license if you’re under 16. I do not know the minimum age. Your boat has to be registered and have a sticker if it has a motor and you’re on public water. You probably don’t need any of that on a private pond.

Thank you sir! This boat is a 1959 model. It’s hard to say how long it’s sat.

Need a clip on that live well! Portable cooler live well? Brilliant
Thanks! I made a tutorial on assembling the live well on my page!
Wonder if spraying it down with acetone or paint stripper and pressure washing again would have a similar effect of sanding for surface prep

There’s just something bout a job boat.

Great video! How much paint did you end up using for the whole boat? Trying to decide if I need more than a quart for 14x36.
Thanks! I probably used a little over half a gallon. I would definitely go ahead and buy the gallon.
👏👏👏
How did you make live well set up
Does the boat still leak after glove it or did it seal
It does not leak, but I don’t know if it did before the gluvit either. I bought, sealed it, and painted it before I put it on the water.
How well did the paint job hold up?
It’s holding up good!
I’m looking to paint my 12ft Jon boat the exact same way you did here. Did you wait any time between applying those two coats of alumahawk?
I did not wait long. Just a few minutes. It drys pretty quick.

@@kirkoutdoors8806 awesome, I think this is the route I'll plan on going.

I paid $100 for the boat. I believe have a little over $1,000 in the total project.
What gun did you use to spray with?
Central Pneumatic 20 oz HVLP gravity fed from Harbor Freight.
HEY DOES ANYONE KNOW DO YOU NEED A BOAT LICENSE TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE A JON BOAT ON A LAKE/POND.
