    I am not trying to be rude here, but your science is a little off. I see that you dropped a 38mm aluminum sport band, and the 42mm stainless steel band. Also, you used a green sports band for the 38mm and a millines loop for the 42mm. This is not valid because the force of impact would not have been equal. Using the standard equation [Force = Mass x Acceleration] the mass would need to be equal for a fair comparison. The Mass of the aluminum watch is 25g, and the green sports band is 43g, equalling a total of 68g. While the 42mm Stainless Steel weighs 50g and the milanese loop weighs 41g making a total of 91g. The mass would not have been equal, or even close, so the force of impact would have been higher for the Stainless steel. This could easily explain the reason behind the shattering screen rather than the difference of materials.

    From what I understand, the Sapphire Crystal holds up well against scratches, but not impact and cracks. The Ion-X however doesn't fare so well against scratches, but does better with impact.

      ***** that's part of the truth. Many watches also use much thicker glass than this Apple watch. In 1959 Certina DS doubled the standard sapphire thichness. DS=double security. Double gaskets, double o-rings, double shock protection with internal rubber rings that reduces the internal shock. DC CONCEPT
      Self-winding (automatic) watches of that era withstood shocks of only 1,8 -2,2 meters. The innovative CERTINA DS raises that figure to 6 meters and the level of water resistance to 20 bar (200 m), placing the company at the forefront of its trade.

    The sapphire one had a heavier band on it possibly increasing the amount of force on generated from the fall. Although the result is somewhat expected.

  • @balls2u69
    @balls2u69 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The metal added more weight to the watch as opposed to the sports rubber or plastic band. Since gravity is always the same acceleration 9.8 m/s squared and force is mass times acceleration. The larger mass of the metal watch made it hit the ground with more force than the smaller lighter plastic or rubber one. Thus making the screen shatter on the heavier watch

  • @kaleidoscopeon
    @kaleidoscopeon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I dont know but i think the weight of the metallic band played a part in shattering the screen of the steel Apple watch. The weight fell on the back of the Watch which put extra weight on the screen during fall and shattered it. The Apple watch sport band is really light.

    Couldn't help but notice that the sport model is a 38mm and the steel was 42mm. Smaller surface areas are actually harder to break. Can you compare the 42mm steel with a 42mm sport (or 38mm for both for that matter) in order to get a fair assessment?

    which one is the sapphire

  • @JHANKSMEDIA
    @JHANKSMEDIA 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The sapphire glass is much stronger when it comes to scratching, but otherwise it's pretty brittle and will shatter fairly easy. The Ion-X glass is the opposite; it's reinforced to help with scratches but still gets them pretty easily, while its intentions are to be more shatter resistant than scratch resistant.

  • @steve08199

    Engineering can explain that the reason the sapphire shattered, and the ion-x didn't, is because it has a higher strength, which is good for scratch resistance, but terrible for shock absorbency.. The ion-x actually has more toughness, but less strength.

      The watch is waterproof for around 30 minutes, you can shower with it, wash your hands with it, just don't go swimming with it on.

    The stainless steel Apple watch is much heavier so it hit the ground with more force.
    That said even if they hit the ground with the same force the sapphire version would shatter first. Sapphire is more scratch resistant than glass but less shatter resistant.

    u also got to remember the normal apple watch is heaver due to the stainless steal and the stainless steel band and the apple watch spot is a much lighter aluminum with a rubber band

    The reason why stainless steel version shattered because. It is the 42mm. Version. And its band is a lot heavier than the sport band.

    to be fair, the sapphire crystal watch has a heavier band, therefore it would hit the ground with more impact. who's to say the sports version would'nt have also cracked had it been equipped with the heavier band

    Should have taken off the metal band and maybe put on leather band, wasn't a fair test

      TheCanadianKeyboard ikr...something with more weight will have more affect to something that is just light like Apple's rubber band... i dont think they thought this through

    • @Hamster1022
      @Hamster1022 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheCanadianKeyboard This is fair because if you buy the one with the metal band, you're going to have the metal band not a rubber one and vice versa.

      Hamster1022 then atleast put the apple watch with the metal band....duh....

      Brian8000666 Why should it matter? If you buy the one with the rubber band you're going to have a rubber band not a metal one.
