Lenny Garrison on the XLE/ XSE models there are three buttons (eco, normal, sport) in sport mode the transmission holds gears too long most of the time when up shifting. In eco mode the transmission shifts quicker to keep the RPMS low in order to get better MPG.

This Camry has the same defective 8 speed transmission as the 2018 and the 2019. Mr44rr my 2020 XSE v6 doesn’t have any issues shifting. Shifts smooth and in sport mode it does respond quickly. Only minor complaint is that when you downshift via the gas in sport mode it takes a tad bit longer
This is what I've been hearing, i was wondering why people weren't talking about this. Transmission issues are a pretty big problem. Honda, and especially Nissan, get their negative publicity for that, but never Toyota...
@@davevolz6138 The shift shock is when you accelerate from a stop or rolling stop. Long delay and then a harsh jerk into gear. Feels like the transmission is out, if you know what that feels like.
The reason why only 6% of V6 Camrys are sold is it's too close in price to the Lexus ES, which already has the same V6 engine, and has a much better interior and better sheetmetal and suspension. Aside from options, the same Camry you get for $24,425 you wind up paying $34,580 for the V6. Today there are so many options to choose from in a car. People buy Camrys for reliability and affordability. I'd get the V6 because it's smoother, quieter, and more powerful than the 4 cyl. But I no longer carry a carload of people and luggage. And I commute 135 miles a day. So the 4 is fine.
I work for a Toyota dealership here in the great white north, the 6% figure for V6 orders seems high. I've never seen a V6 Camry at the dealership in half a year. Quite sad times
Most people buy the 4 cylinders is for gas mileage. Not the v6. Most people agree that with 200 hp is good enough for daily commute and have better traction in rain and snow.
7:10 mark, why would you set your camera up there? Do you want someone to slide into you? The cars are coming over the top of a hill and into a turn and that's where you setup? Awareness 0
I have no problem saying that was me. You make a good point in general, but given the actual situation then and there (non-motorsport, closed course, strict rules on speed over the hill), there was no risk in that position.
@@drivingsports Thanks for the reply. I can't put my faith in people to follow the rules. Somebody might mess around and go faster than they're suppose to. And they're on all season tires. Not snow lol
"...We purchased the Camry for $26,968 and traded it in for $13,000, about 2.5 years later and with over 42K miles on the odometer. These miles were well above average and affected the Camry's trade-in value. That said, we could've easily gotten a few grand more on the private market if we would have sold it ourselves. Profit versus convenience is something owners have to decide for themselves. It ultimately equated to 51.8% depreciation. However, it is difficult to compare this outcome directly to the result for any other long-term car because we typically keep a long-termer for just 12 months or so. Edmund's longterm
I’m a broke 17 yr old, so I definitely can’t afford this. But the fact that this doesn’t have a CVT already makes it worth a buy compared to the Altima and Accord. V6 is just the icing on the cake.

i work for the plant in Georgetown Kentucky where the Camry, Avalon, ES350, and Hybrid Rav4 are manufactured. i bought a 2019 XSE in the Blue Streak with the Black roof with the V6. the V6 makes the car a totally different daily. would recommend it anyday
Raymond Motell I test drove the XSE both 4 and v6 back to back. The v6 silence and refinement was night and day. Made it easy to justify the $6000 up charge to the v6
Back in 2003 I purchased a new Honda CR-V 4 wheel drive (4wd). It, like the new Camry, had absolutely no indications on the dash as to when the 4wd kicked in. As the driver, you only knew 4wd kicked in because the car remained stable when it appeared you were going to lose control.
I’m a Camry owner and I 100% agree with him on the seats. They are very uncomfortable. Especially the headrests. I didn’t notice it during the test drive unfortunately. Make sure to test drive multiple times before making a decision. Everything else on the Camry is great... especially the pano moonroof.
I've had my Camry XLE 2.5 years, and my very first Toyota. The single thing that always surprises me is how unrefined and buzzy the 4 Cyl is. Thank goodness for the good transmission. To your point, I had always thought Toyota is known for their smooth and quiet 4 Cyls. I hope they get back to that someday.
@JAA With this generation Camry, their goal was to make it more like an Accord, and less of an appliance. It's now lower, wider, has great steering, and handles well. I think a little extra engine noise was another way of making it more of a driver's car. For me, it's just a little too much.
@JAA Yes, it's definitely pretty smooth for what it is and its louder compared to like a 2017 civic or like the 2002--2006 camry from what i've been in.
Ok, now we need an awd version of the accord from honda - should pair it with a 1.8 or 1.7 turbo with panoramic sun roof at the exl trim and above ! Its a shame how most of the Acura products DONT have panoramic sun roof .
Went in to the dealership to get an oil change, toyota wanted my 09 camry v6 with 120k. Came home and started looking at the same car, toyota dealership are still selling the same model with 150k plus for 10k.
The best AWD sedans i have driven so far are 2 that i rented. 2020 Ford Fusion AWD and 2018 Volvo S90 AWD. I made multiple 4,000+ mile round trip journeys from Cali on these two cars. They grip in blizzard conditions better then my 2018 Range Rover HSE and the handling was amazing on both in Colorado Mountain winter drives. I'd have to get my hands on one of these Toyo Camrys AWD to see if it's any good. Back in the day i had a super charged Toyota Previa AWD and it was amazing in Chicago winters.
I am guessing they didn't bother with the AWD V6 because that 6% sale number doesn't justify the cost to test the AWD with the V6? I mean sure you can just slap the AWD on, but the testing part would cost a lot? I dunno... has to be a reason... I rarely see a Camry V6 on the road to be honest...
Ditched my 2000 Camry for a 2011 KIA Optima because there were so many things to fix....not so reliable in my view. On our third Optima now...so glad we switched!

Maybe an option for those of us in the snowy areas of the USA who live on mountains. Still they have an uphill battle with Subaru dominating where I live. The massive drop in fuel mileage is that the AWD system in this case does not decouple from the rear wheels. Even when applying power, it is still connecting. Toyota did not want to spend the money to separate the two when the rear wheels are not used for power, which kept the cost down (converting from the RAV4) but reduced the gas mileage. That is why it is so much worse. I think seeing this get stuck people are going to stick with their Subarus which have more clearance. Buick sells the Regal with a V6 but this is its last year.
thank you for the very well done review! My one question is, why did it get stuck in the snow? Shouldn't the AWD system control the spinning rear wheels and send more torque to the front wheels? It would seem to me that the computer sensors/controls are not calibrated well? It appears that the ground clearance is sufficient, as the tires are at least touching the ground/snow and not lifted off by too deep of snow. I am in the market for an AWD sedan and have been shopping the Legacy, and I was hoping this would give me another option, but the image of the Camry getting stuck is concerning. I live in Minnesota and NEED AWD in my location.
Did you end up buying the Camry AWD? I'm considering an AWD currently, even putting Blizzak's on it too, but this video has me a tad concerned. In Chicago, we can easily get 6 inches or more of snow in any given storm. According to this video, I'd have a beached whale stuck in a parking lot.
1:20 - drivetrain losses?!? they rate the hp at the crank, not wheels, its obvious the loss comes from the exhaust and it not being as efficiently routed, probably due to the rear driveshaft location, hence why the dual exhaust has more hp.
Please more footage of car driving from outside, even better side by side comparison of how the cars handle in the same frame. The footage of u guys inside giggling doesn’t tell me anything about how the car is moving on the road.
You have to push and hold traction control off button while vehicle is stopped to turn it all off. Love your videos, literally have watched every single one.
People please you don’t need a V6 this is going to be fine and to be safe on the snow and water it’s not for a racing car it’s for our safety daily drive.
I'm surprise Toyota is even keeping the V6 considering all the other competition is only turbo 4. It is a smart move to only keep in the 4 cycler because it will keep the premium V6 power with Lexus where people expect it. I'm surprised it even took this long to put AWD in the sedans like this. I understand performance cars like to stay RWD to preserve the performance freshness, but AWD gives the car a safe stable feel that a lot of buyers are will to pay the AWD tax for. I have G37x and i can feel when my car saved my a$$ sometimes by sending power to other wheels.
Soo... Does that mean you have to buy a 4cyl. AWD, then do an engine swap to get the 6cyl? Because it's kind of ridiculous for the other options that are V6 only like the XSE or TRD.
It’s funny how Toyota set you up in a snow filled mountain but didn’t provide winter tires. That would’ve been interesting to see. Also, all wheel drive is good in heavy rain. We get flash flooding from time to time here in Florida. Oh, and we get tropical storms too. IJS. Also, don’t you think the extra weight effects fuel economy??? I really like the fact that Toyota is giving this option. And 200 plus horsepower with a real transmission is very rare these days, particularly from the popular Japanese brands. Not so long ago many enthusiasts would’ve complained that there is no manual option. Now it’s only about turbos, torque and the quarter mile. We need to enjoy this for what it is or we’ll end up with a one point nothing turbo and a CVT. And who knows, if folks buy lots of these, maybe we’ll be rewarded with a TRD versión down the road.

Lenny Garrison on the XLE/ XSE models there are three buttons (eco, normal, sport) in sport mode the transmission holds gears too long most of the time when up shifting. In eco mode the transmission shifts quicker to keep the RPMS low in order to get better MPG.
Glenn Terry Jr so would this not apply to me then? There is an option on my SE to turn eco on and off, but not via a dedicated button. Actually, I don’t have any drive mode buttons.
Sofyan I am really enjoying your reviews. You just about try out all the different segments of vehicles. And I truly believe your opinions are honest and to the point. You are a very well spoken young man.
this will be good in Canada. can't wait for this car
This Camry has the same defective 8 speed transmission as the 2018 and the 2019. Technical Service Bulletin 0330-17-transmission delay/shift shock accelerating from a stop or rolling stop for the 2018. TSB 0152-19 for the 2019. Complaints are building for the 2020. Most in the forums say the TSB software update doesn't help. I'd avoid the Camry.

No problems here. Its starts in 4 th unless you floor it. Maybe thats the shift shock some people feel.
If not the Camry, then what would you recommend?
They're saving the V6 for the higher performance version that will be coming out... whenever.
I work for a Toyota dealership here in the great white north, the 6% figure for V6 orders seems high. I've never seen a V6 Camry at the dealership in half a year. Quite sad times
Matt is so quiet and respectful of Sofyan.
Most people buy the 4 cylinders is for gas mileage. Not the v6. Most people agree that with 200 hp is good enough for daily commute and have better traction in rain and snow.
How is the AWD in the Camry compare to the Legacy and Altima? I live in UT, most people here drive Subies and SUVs. People prefer AWD cars.
Jeremy Clarkson would have stopped the Camry on the hill climb on purpose and just stare at the camera with smug face.
Lol! Absolutely he would have!
despite the biases, this is one of the best reviews on utube!!
Doesn't surprise me I BARELY see any V6 Camry's and I see probably a solid 14 Camry's per day lmao... They're as common as a fkn Honda Civic... 😨😨
I have a 2020 civic amd this is true lol
Devon Gee true 205 hp is plenty fast for a midsize sedan anyways plus more reliable
@@dannybishop68 yeah and if you have the money to get more power more people are probably going for the Avalon or a base ES at that point... Why stick with the ugly Camry if you don't have to?
Devon Gee Exactly they would just go for the Avalon which is better looking or a Lexus ES .
Dan bish 6 cyl is actually more reliable.
Google Comsumer Report Camry recall for 2.5 l engine. A factory defect has caused block cracks.
Welcome Camry AWD. While Toyota is in the mood to mix and match their TNGA drivetrains, how about a #RAV4V6?
Rav-v6 never sold as expected when it was offer, the Hybrid will give you AWD, I own own one and its pretty good.
Juan Lopez why buy a rav4 when you could of bought a Highlander? I’m curious to know why buyers choose rav over the highlander cause I never saw a reason to
Paladin Not everyone wants to drive a big suv and the rav4 is definitely smaller than the Highlander.
@@JuanLopez-oz9kh The FWD Camry has a V6 with a 6% take up rate, why shouldn't the outdoorsy, AWD RAV4?
@@paladin3116
Highlander is C$10,000 more than a RAV4. That's why
i work for the plant in Georgetown Kentucky where the Camry, Avalon, ES350, and Hybrid Rav4 are manufactured. i bought a 2019 XSE in the Blue Streak with the Black roof with the V6. the V6 makes the car a totally different daily. would recommend it anyday
Only if the trd had the awd
Just get Lexus IS 350 awd
Dave Volz the is is old asf
I’m a Camry owner and I 100% agree with him on the seats. They are very uncomfortable. Especially the headrests. I didn’t notice it during the test drive unfortunately. Make sure to test drive multiple times before making a decision. Everything else on the Camry is great... especially the pano moonroof.
what about the transmission? is it really sluggish ?
@@shiftautomotive854 It can be sluggish when accelerating from a stop, but the car has a lot of power once you get to higher speeds.
I hope they get back to that someday.
my 2007 camry with the 2.4 is pretty loud compared to other normal cars but I like it cause I like hearing the engine noise
Will they add awd to a Camry Trd model
With only 6% V6 being sold, I can’t see why Toyota would keep it for another generation
Hopefully competitors in the segment would "Me Too" so AWD prices would be competitive too
Went in to the dealership to get an oil change, toyota wanted my 09 camry v6 with 120k. Came home and started looking at the same car, toyota dealership are still selling the same model with 150k plus for 10k.
Still no Shelby GT350 on the channel? Cmon man it’s been 4 years since it came out!
Driving video in the interior, camry xse awd,
Driving video in the exterior, camry xle awd,
Me: 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I guess, if you think about it, the All-Trac only came with the 4 Popper too.
Ditched my 2000 Camry for a 2011 KIA Optima because there were so many things to fix....not so reliable in my view. On our third Optima now...so glad we switched!
shopwithaaron how many miles did the Camry have?
I hope they will bring AWD to Lexus ES as well
Sell like hot cakes! And they need to bring the Camry wagon back. An AWD Camry wagon would be amazing! Great review as always.
Can u add a drift button??rwd??and dont charge extra for a v6, with donut steel wheels and refrigerator in da center for 2 24 cans.heated and cooled seats and smoke atomizer and seat massager
What's up with that massive recall?
massive? only 250 cars out of millions
@@singular9 Nevertheless; they're asking all those owners to come in for the recall.
Idk if it is the same, but ive heard the 8 speed auto is having some issues
Is the 9 jbl speaker audio system standard on the awd model?
That XSE is wrong. They do not have an exposed camera on the front. It is hidden behind the logo.
I drive a 2007 Camry with 220,000 miles on it. I’ve been waiting to upgrade because I want another Camry but with AWD. After having the 4 cyl. For 13 years I’m ready for the V-6. Come in Toyota?! Add the V-6.
Gerald Wilson just get the V6 FWD.
What's the point of the awd option? The awd rav4 with the same engine/trans gets better fuel economy.
The V6 in the Camry is a good engine.
If you opt for the XSE, why not get the V6?
Apparently no one buys it which is weird
It’s too DAMN expensive!
Not bad! But with my Subaru Legacy I do get to have 6 cylinders and AWD so I'm happy.
Considering you got stuck...does the Camry have a front tow hook for that situation?
I rent a Camry most times through Hertz. Hopefully they carry the awd model soon.
Man if they paired this with a V6, I would definitely consider a Camry
4 cyl is not what they wanted to buy , it's what they can afford.
Imagine a AWD TRD model
Only time i'll get a sedan is with AWD, Fusion was alright, Legacy was okay but a Accord and this new Camry is so perfect.
Please more footage of car driving from outside, even better side by side comparison of how the cars handle in the same frame. The footage of u guys inside giggling doesn’t tell me anything about how the car is moving on the road.
cant buy this even if i like the styling, too much snow here in canada. this one has a very low ground clearance
Is this limeted to 113mph also?
I just got a 2020 corolla and no one said it was limited to that speed😠
You have to push and hold traction control off button while vehicle is stopped to turn it all off. Love your videos, literally have watched every single one.
Let's see who gets it first challenger v6 supercharged 4×4 or camry v6 supercharged awd for the price of4 cyl?
What about the hybrid model? The RAV4 Hybrid and the Prius have AWD. The Camry should get it too. Honestly all hybrids should have the option.
People please you don’t need a V6 this is going to be fine and to be safe on the snow and water it’s not for a racing car it’s for our safety daily drive.
I love these and now really love that they have a heated steering wheel
I'm surprise Toyota is even keeping the V6 considering all the other competition is only turbo 4. It is a smart move to only keep in the 4 cycler because it will keep the premium V6 power with Lexus where people expect it. I'm surprised it even took this long to put AWD in the sedans like this. I understand performance cars like to stay RWD to preserve the performance freshness, but AWD gives the car a safe stable feel that a lot of buyers are will to pay the AWD tax for. I have G37x and i can feel when my car saved my a$$ sometimes by sending power to other wheels.
Hear me out....wat if we do a V6 swap to this AWD model ?
Is there a roof cover? To close the windows?
If you hold the traction control button for a few seconds.. It will fully shut off
Me: “Cool I’m interested.”
*...you can only get it with the base engine*
“Not interested.”
V6 is only available in the xse anyway
And you get almost the same MPG hit as a V6! Without the power!! Lol
