F-350 7.3L gas checking in. The engine braking on my truck surprised me. Much better than I expected. I’m sure it’s not as good as what you can get out of a big diesel. Same rear axle, 11,300 gvwr with a lighter engine so payload 3,787 on a very similar Lariat. I do hate that tailgate weight and I never use the step. I have a flip down step on the corner that I use all the time. I’d like that payload back with a plain tailgate. Or that GM tailgate that makes it easy to reach the hitch.
I totally agree my 2020 7.3 f350 if in tow haul mode it’s absolutely amazing! I have not experienced the recall rate that some of the newer truck are my truck was built in the summer of2019.
To be honest, I wish Ford would make the tailgate step a stand alone option and offer the bumper step IPO. If I ever get a chance I will let you test my truck hooked up to a trailer and you may consider a diesel next go around 👍🏾
In addition I had a 2019 3500 longhorn loaded! Great truck but I did not have confidence in the trucks electrical/electronics and hated that it drank def at trice the rate my 2017 longhorn did. In addition to the constant regen. They said it was normal🤷♂️
Just got a build date the other day for my 22 F-350 7.3L 3.73 Lariat that I ordered in December. I am figuratively foaming at the mouth in anticipation.
Our 7.3 and 10 speed trans pulling a 11k bumper pull, 4-7 percent down grade is absolutely amazing. I don’t have to use the brakes to maintain speed, it’s all engine.
You’re using a tremor which is the off-road version. That isn’t a towing truck. Still has the ability to but the suspension isn’t setup for the heavy hauling
The exhaust or engine brake works best with the tow/haul mode turned on, if your pulling a trailer with weight use tow mode thats what its for , different shift points up and downshifting
Right so what if the exhaust brake isn’t all that Ford is the better with everything else reliability, comfort, and power if you’ve ever driven a ram that things a bus
@@lucasgrove1685 I've never driven a 3/4 or 1 ton Ram to know if it feels like a bus, only a 1/2 ton, and I have to say, the fit an finish on that one is fantastic. Now I'm a Ford fan and own a 22 F-350, but I have to give credit, where credit is due. I just like the reliability of the Ford over the Ram.
My engine break works amazing! Like others have said, putting the truck in tow/haul mode is key. Also the "regular" engine brake won't engage unless you tap the brakes, signaling the computer that it needs to assist with braking. With the "auto" engine brake, it engages on its own, as it detects a certain degree of decline. Source: I haul a 42' 18000 lb 5th wheel - believe me, it works just fine. 👌
Man, these things look like the Command Center of a space ship or something! You young guys would probably hate my 73 GMC C25. Manual steering, manual brakes, manual transmission, wind-up windows, a manually adjustable seat, 292 Stovebolt 6 that I added a second carb and headers to, and it is a conventional cab, not a Club Cab, not a Crew Cab, but it does have an 8 foot bed.
It’s difficult to pick a truck that has everything you need. I had a 2018 ram mega cab 2500 Cummins. It drove great plenty of room, main concern was the payload and bed space. The long bed helps me at the ranch, loading cargo for trips in the rv, loading cargo for the ranch. Rams crew cab lacks space for car seats in opinion. I researched every truck test drove every one ton. Exhaust brake in ram hands down the best. Optional air bag. Ford had a better ride”does make it squat a little more”, to me better mpg when test driving them. Chevy had a rougher ride Between the three. What each manufacturer lacks in, the competition surpasses it. At the end I chose the brand of my grandfathers last truck Ford.
I made the same move, went from an 18 Megacab cummins to a 22 F350 Tremor and it is twice the truck with a much better ride. The payload and towing capacity in the cummins was awful and the ride quality was even worse. I loved the cummins for ease of maintenance and easy to work on, other than that the ford is superior
@@rempel29 I agree 110% it’s hard to beat the interior space and ride of a ford. The Chevy 3500 just had a very rough ride compared to the ram and ford. The ford has a higher gvwr so in essence higher payload. Overall a good truck!
I don’t use use automatic brake when towing. I use full brake and tow haul mode. Works for me on my 2021 F350 dually. I test drove an 3500 dually ram. That ride sucks. Hard on my back
To each his own, retired diesel mechanic/tech ,50 yrs experience, you talked about how you like to hear the grunt of a i6 [cummins] into a hill or under load. I like the linear smoothness of a V/8 and a 10 speed under load and pulling a hill, and did I mention Quiet!Had trucks and cars with built transmissions that would chirp rubber between gears, tough on drive train, thats why they derate them when they up shift, shifting smoothly and positive is where it's at ,just ask ATS,Sun Coast, John Woods ,or Brians Truck shop.Yes exhaust brake could be better .A lot of bashing on the Ford, just keep your Dodge [Ram] and hope you live in a warm climate, if you live in the Rust Belt and have a 5 or 6 yr note on it will have wholes in it before it's payed for. ,
It is interesting to learn about these hd trucks. I appreciate the time you spend using and explaining the ups and downs of the variety of trucks and options and the costs.
I have a F-250, with the transmission break on it and it works great, use it all the time to slow down. Used it going over the the divide in Wyoming and cabbage hill in Oregon, and had no problems. You say you have a Dodge ram, stop being a hater on Ford trucks and drive you Dodge goat
I’m surprised about your engine/exhaust brake review. My 2020 F350 w/6.7 was a BOSS going through the Tennessee mountains pulling 11k 5th wheel. Once I turned it on, I never had to hit the brakes. I even annoyed my family with my bragging on not having to touch the brakes. 🤷🏼
You have a programing issue my friend. Not Ford. Mine stops on a dime and with heavy loads like 17-22k lbs, use your tow -haul in mountains. Your engine brake (jake -brake). Is for suddle slow downs on the interstate.. etc. For your squat on the camper hauling, you need f350 rear springs.
I have towed with both cummins and power stroke. Cummins hands down even with the Aisin. The HO combo is absolute beast, and you need an F450 to even compare. I love the way Ford looks, both interior and exterior, but I tow a few tractors (CAT 914G), and the Ram 3500 handles it like it's pulling a jet ski. Now, a GMC or Ford might beat Ram in a race up hill, but going down grade, especially with heavy loads, the Ram wins by far. It's very important to be able to have control of your load, rather than just having the ability to pull it. My buddy who writes insurance premiums for hot shot drivers, told me that 80% of the trucks are Ram Cummins and the rest are Ford; none are GMC. There's a reason for that! If you're just towing small loads occasionally, then it doesn't really matter which model you go with. They're all nice. If you're going to be hauling heavy loads often, Ram 3500 is best. Hands down. Including single cab, SRWs.
I will start by saying I love the way the Fords exterior looks over the Ram. However I use my truck for towing also. So having 4000+ Lbs of payload capacity on my Ram 3500SRW is a must. While the fuel mileage does suffer a little with the 6 speed Aisin, when in tow/haul mode the transmission is will down shift paired with the exhaust brake will bring you to a stop in a hurry while towing which for me is a must for towing heavy loads.
2018 F350/Super Duty 6 Speed (Extremely Smooth Shifting 6speed!) Original Owner here, just an FYI your “Automatic Engine Braking” is designed to work in concert with your “ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL”, Where in it work’s Awesomely btw (Towed our 27’ AIRSTREAM across the Grapevine as well as the rest of the Midwest for 60k miles & Loving it btw. After market LED lighting, Air Bags are easily installed & btw getting a Longbed is a MUST towing Any RV. Residual Values are also best in the business
A couple of things, for the lady that darted out in front of you and quickly slowed down, she may have thought you were an easy target for insurance fraud. That is why I have a dash cam for when people do that to me. Second, ford does have the corner bumper drop down step option like the Ram, it is a factory option and I have it on my '22 F350.
Exhaust breaks don’t work that well on level ground. An exhaust brake is a butterfly valves that closes in the hot side of the turbo causing back pressure which slows the vehicle. So the turbo has to be able to spoil up to be effective. You are thinking about a compression break which opens the exhaust valves at TDC using engine compression to slow the the truck
I drove a ram 3500 and it felt like I was driving a school bus power wise. Brakes were very soft too. Also the cab space is very cramped feeling. All it has is a good exhaust brake 😂
Great. School bus. Plenty of power and torque. Strudy. Reliable. Fun to drive. Literally drive HotShot. Never had any complaints with the brakes. I live in an area where we have a 3 percent downgrade that comes to a stop in 200 feet to turn left into the housing area. Speeds up till that point are 60 plus on the highway. Never had any issues and my ram breaker better than any vehicle we had save my charger. Also if your using your breaks to stop your HD pickup solely your clearly not experienced with a pickup. Save your wallet. Let your tranny take a good deal of the strain off. Should be smooth stopping as many times as you can anyway. Finally I'm 6'5 never had space complaints in my ram HDs. It's truck meant to be put to work. If you fit comfortably, it works reliably. Done deal. If your pavement princess has larger interior space at the cost of weight. That's a loss on the utility side. Then you gotta save weight by going to less durable material.
Yes you say you hate Ford Trucks but there is always something you will hate about Ford Ram , Chevy GMC ,Tundra, I am glad you Pointed them out, because that’s why I Love your Videos!! I ain’t Mad🤩
I have a F350 Tremor but not a fan boy of any manufacturer. I appreciate your honesty cause I will never hear the truth from a dealer. I have owned all trucks from all makers and always purchase what meets my needs, not because I am loyal to a specific maker. The manufactures will tell you anything to make a sale so I look after myself because it’s a whole lot of cheddar to tie yourself to one maker. Keep these vids coming. 👍
You can always fix the squatting issue with after market airbags like I did with my GMC. I agree with you though that airbags should be a factory option. Thanks JB.
I just upgraded from a 2011 f250 with 6.2 gas engine to a 2022 f350 with 6.2 gas engine. Only difference is my new truck has the ten speed transmission. I love the ten speed towing my travel trailer. The six speed when you downshift is was very abrupt the ten speed is so smooth. I attribute that to the gear sizing. Seventh gear is the same as fifth gear. 10, 9, & 8 are all over speeds.
It's the Tremor package holding you back. It's a good mix between off road capabilities and on road capabilities. If you truly wanted it for towing I would suggest a non Tremor version. I enjoyed your video and you have a lot of valid points. Would love to see your thoughts using a non Tremor F-350 diesel for towing. Although I am a Ford guy, hands down ram has the nicest looking interior.
When I switched to Ford from Dodge. I got an aftermarket exhaust brake. Cost me 1,000 buck. So making a big deal about it is kinda your way of saving face I think. The power difference is not close I have more room in the cab. And a longer bed. Better mirrors. I do hotshots for a living. Still have my 15 dodge though wife drives it around town. For what she needs.
@@2CabrasLocas this ought to be good. How am I justifying a bad purchase? Nowhere in my statement did I say I purchased badly. I smile all the way to the bank, takes me less time to get where I need to go. so I make more money. My gas mileage is better so I laugh all the way to the bank. Explain to me how that’s a bad purchase?. Calling a spade a spade when you don’t know me makes you look kinda uneducated. As you like to say just calling a spade a spade.
I really like my Ram 2020 3500 HO drw. It comes with excellent brakes, engine braking, the inline 6 Cummins are really hard to beat. Mine came with rear air bags and leveling. The Aisin is a really good trans. It pulls very well. I pull a 42ft rv, and sometimes i forget its back there. 50 gallon fuel tank. Fantastic trucks.
Exhaust brake on my 02 Fleetwood expedition, 5.9 cummins isb300... It has such strong exhaust brake it's almost like the Regen on my 2013 S85. So nice. If you got a trailer and are going downhill you def should be feeling a strong slowing with an exhaust brake. Dude, plz get a hand on the new f150 lightning and tow something with it and let us know what you think! Would be super sweet to get your take on it. You would prolly really like the power.
For those of us towing for work without a cdl keeping the truck gvwr at 12,000 pounds or less is essential to be able to tow a trailer rated for 14,000 pounds.
I would agree that the exhaust brake on the Ford trucks are not as good as the Cummins exhaust brake, but I also think that it may work for some of us but not all of us. As an example, workplaytv has an F-450 which he has towed close to if not over 30k going down a grade and it seemed to work for him. You also have ti give it some credit as it was shown on TFL Truck that the Powerstroke exhaust brake did perform better than the Duramax exhaust brake on the Ike Gauntlet whilst towing a full load.
Air suspension means A'LOT to me. And to get a factory warranty with airbags is the deal sealer. I can't drive without them anymore. Handeling, ride, and level headlights is great with the air suspension.
I have the f250. I was towing a 5000 lb trailer with a 6000 lb tractor down a grade. The exhaust brake works awesome. I think you need to be under load down a grade. Regular driving with towing nothing it is not very strong.
I appreciate your opinion. To each his own. I had a 2018 ram 3500 cummins and traded it in for a 2020 GMC 3500HD Denali Dually. The only thing I liked more on the Ram was the exhaust brake. In my opinion every other aspect of my GMC is far superior to the Ram. And I also tow real weight, not to offend anyone but 14,000 is pretty light. Try 40ft 10,000 trailer with 20 round bales. Around 35,000 behind the truck. The 10 speed allison and duramax dually are amazing in my opinion, only thing I would like better is the exhaust brake. My bother has a 2019 F350 dually with powerstroke and 4:10 axle ratio. Will out tow a Ram any day. Thats a beast of a truck as well. They are all nice trucks that will get the job done. It's all about personal preference. All I can say is the Ram empty is turtle yo drive. I will take my L5P all day. Good video though.
@@TheRamGuy don't get offended Ram fan boy. I said to each his own. You can think it's crappy all you want, it can hold up way better than any Ram trans will that I can guarantee.
@@samuelbridge7873 not a Ram fan boy by any stretch just speaking facts. You can enjoy you Chevy with the Isuzu made diesel and Ford built 10 speed when it's in the shop while my Toyota built Aisin medium duty beast keeps going and going and going along with my bullet proof Cummins.
I completely agree I have had all 3 and the GMC out performs them all. Especially the new gmc’s having the largest radiator, largest fan, largest oil coolers and ram air. Both Ram and Ford have over heating issues while GM didn’t and still doesn’t now. The biggest robber of power in diesels is heat….
I own a 2021 RAM 3500 H/O, and the thing tows great.....I only tow a 16k toy hauler but compared to my 06 Ford its like jumping out of a pinto into a Ferrari. The exhaust break honestly was the deal breaker for me. It is hands down awesome! Been down plenty of grades with my old set up at 35 mph because any faster and I was completely out of control which is a horrible feeling. So I may not be the fastest up the grades but I feel as though I am in substantially more control going to down hill. That was more important to me than being the fastest up the hill.
So, what I was reading up on a 10 speed transmission. It allows the truck to find a better gear for acceleration and slowing down. That it finds a better RPM and to not get that grunt. I’m not a mechanic but to me that grunt is being harder on the engine. I have a ram Cummins and you are right, the exhaust break is amazing but from what I am reading these new fords just pull with more power than the dodges.
First the capacity and squat would be a lot better if you ditch the Tremor package. That package lowers all towing capabilities. And second don’t use the engine break auto. Just turn it on. The auto is for stopping the truck from speeding up going down hill but will not engage on level ground. As long as the truck is slowing it won’t engage unless you press the brake.
0:58 I’m confused! You said it’s called an engine brake, but you think it works like an exhaust break. Engine brakes don’t work the same as exhaust brakes. “Engine brakes release compressed air through an exhaust valve, but exhaust brakes hold the compression in the engine and slow the crankshaft's rotation, which reduces vehicle speed” Every vehicle I’ve driven with an exhaust brake has slowed down immediately when I took my foot off the pedal.
some advice. put a water filter on it. they are sand cast blocks and you will go thru water pumps. i did on mine when i bought it in 2011. have not replaced my waterpump yet. other people i know have. and add some water wetter. i last year replaeced the factory turbos. nothing was wrong but i have over200000 miles and it runs and pulls as strong as it ever did.
05 f350 6.0 and my truck doesn't squat at all with 15k 5th wheel.stock turbo and it didn't come with engine brake and I have zero issues going down grades..most of your issues are fixed with a tune.
The exhuast break works smart. What's that mean... the computer, breaks, Trans all work together with the exhuast break. It does not works as aggressive as the ram when just driving when my buddy with his ram and I had my f350 towing.... my exhuast break stayed steady and it held constant speed will his ram was gaining speed and he had to use his break. While towing the Ford works great, but don't work great when you're not towing.
We have all become spoiled little brats. Do the homework, take the risk (no matter what you drive), and accept the consequences of that choice. You chose Hate on this one. Get rid of it.
I have a '22 F-350 lariat, CCLB. My GVWR is 12,400lbs, with a payload rating of 4,082. The bed length is what gave me the higher GVWR. The axle ratio is 3.55, but that didn't affect the numbers.
I have a 2020 F250 diesel with the high capacity towing package (essentially a 1 ton rear end on the 3/4 ton). I’ll add to your dislike list: when not in tow/haul mode the 10 speed skips gears. It will go 1-3-5-6-7-8-9-10, or 1-2-4-6-7-8-9-10. The 3-5. (And sometime 4-6) shift has issues when the transmission is “cold”. Could be a firmware thing but it really bugs me. Uncomfortable seats. We drove from Texas to Montana then back again. That drive back was a killer on my back and right knee. Wow. I totally agree with the lack of bed steps. GM has that figured out. Ram and Ford should follow. About the “exhaust brake” on the Ford. It does work, but not near as good as the Ram. I tow only 10000# and the brake really does help with slowing or maintaining speed on downgrades…..until you hit 7% or more. And I do agree it does not really help braking at all. It is better than nothing at all. I also agree with the lack of usb and other electrical outlets. When you are loaded with 6 people (3 of them teenagers) all with phones and/or gaming things…..it’s a fight to plug in. I do disagree with one thing. I love the 10 speed. I would take the 10 speed over. 6 speed any day. I love the versatility. I have a 3.31 rear end and with the 10 speed I can have low end pulling power and low rpm’s on the highway.
I drive ambulances and fire engines for a living and the ranking of usefulness on exhaust brakes are: Cummins (both engine and 5500) > everything else > Gas engine braking > Dog shit > Ford powerstroke engine brake. No exaggeration. Ford's diesel exhaust break is absolutely USELESS. My resume: CDL firefighter that drives Ford, Ram and 45k-80k pound apparatus over 30-40k a year at least.
2021 f350 6.7 dually pull 20k momentum toy hauler been across entire us with rv including Yellowstone Tetons…. Brakes exhaust everything works great don’t know what’s happening with what you drove all day Ford only thing I would change to is F450 for improved turning radius
I just finished traveling through the Canadian Rockies with my trailer. I can tell you that the exhaust brake on my 2022 f350 works like a charm, did you read the manual. Or watch tfl they’ve done tests on all the big 3 diesels. It works 😉
@@JB_WhoWork I’ll admit the ram definitely has a better engine brake for sure 👍 thank you for all time and effort you put into your channel I always make a point of watching your videos when I see them pop up on my feed. Keep up the awesome work
Maybe your exhaust brake is broken. I roll down 8% grades towing 17k without touching my brakes in my 2020 F350. I am amazed how good the thing works. Might have to post a video for you 🤠
@@JB_WhoWork Here is my exhaust brake video on the F350. This video was made for TikTok so forgive the vertical layout and unprofessional nature. Check it out. th-cam.com/users/shortsBObJ6nhD7Dc?feature=share
The exhaust brake on my 2019 F350 works awesome. 2) I love my 6 speed transmission. 3) My F350 dually is 14,000. 4) Payload? Get a bigger truck. 5) Heavy tailgates???? You're high. lol 6)I love the bed step. It's so convenient for getting in and out of the bed of the truck, and it works great if you need to take a dump some where. 7)Fog lights work great as I like to see what's on the road and not out in the bushes. 8) Air bags? Who offers those OEM? Just install some Firestones if you need them. 9) USB's? How many do you want? Maybe get some extensions from Amazon. 8 is plenty for me. My only complaint about the Ford USBs are that none of them are constantly hot. 10) I love the interior set of my F350. What is sounds like is you need to go to Wal-Mart and get yourself some pink panties and go get yourself a Dodge. LOLOLOLOLOLO
I have heard very nice things about the 3500 Rams but also heard Trans replacement every 50K miles id towing heavy. I don't know if that is true or not. You might want to sell the ford and buy another Ram. To be clear I just bought a 2014 F350 dually 4x4 King Ranch. Still in the honeymoon period so will have to get back to you on Pro's and Con's. As to USB ports my 2014 is sorely lacking but has a bunch of power ports. I just bought 5 dual USB ports and now have 11 USB ports and 1x120V plug.
Each is own, I appreciate your review .The 2019 F250 I use for hotshot with 36 ft goose neck is ah monster. Tons of power, Engine brake works great. The fuel mileage sucked with mud tires it had on it when I bought it but actually getting the correct tire made a huge difference.
@@JB_WhoWork it’s not, it’s because The motor Cummins is an original motor from a semi truck and they have to be able to have an amazing engine break or exhaust break so they’re just better because they’re more experienced with it in semi trucks
The exhaust brake is the only legitimate complaint. The rest is nitpicking and preference. I don’t think ford can fix the exhaust brake because of the gearing. I went from an f-250 to an f-450 and the exhaust brake is massively better and the only real difference in my drivetrain is a 4.30 gear ratio.
Hey man everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Personally I'm not a fan of the look of a RAM dually, I love the look of my 22 F450. We towed our 5th wheel for the first time this weekend with the F450 and noticed our engine brake was much more prevalent on this F450 over the 19 F350 was, it held us to 30mph down a very steep, long hill in maybe 6th or 7th gear. As far as all the gadgets, I'm old so to me they're more of a distraction, as long as I can get clear incoming phone calls and plays radio stations I'm good ,lol I cant compare the comfort of any other but I can say with certainty that I spend anywhere from 8 to sometimes over 24 hours (plowing snow) in the seat and it doesnt bother me. I guess Im just a Ford fan but as long as any of them get you down the road safely thats all that matters. One more note, I've seen payloads on SRW F350's over 4k (check out Big Truck Big RV's channel) my 19 F350 was a diesel, CC short bed and the payload was 3640lbs
For interior room, nothing beats a Ford. I’m one of those weirdos who actually wants a bench seat and not a giant console. The middle seat is actually usable. My 5’1 wife banged her knees on the Ram dash, but fits just fine in my Ford. The ceiling-mounted console also felt lower than the upfitter switches in my Ford. I pull a travel trailer with weight distribution, so, squat isn’t a big issue for me. I can’t comment on that. Automatic engine braking + cruise control is the best combo for me, at least towing around the Gulf Coast. I can’t comment on going up into mountains. Totally agree about Sync vs U-Connect. Even now, Sync feels a full generation behind. Ford just cannot get their heads around Sync. I guess that’s why they’re moving to a new, Android Automotive-based system. (That’s the in-dash system, not the phone-based Android Auto. Google’s product naming is clear as mud.) As for the rest of the dash, I have dials, not screens, and it works fine. I wish Ford would introduce a remote D-pad for operating the center-dash screen. I got spoiled by my Acura, and now I really don’t like making long reaches to jab at a screen on a bumpy road. Also agree about that heavy tailgate. I’d like both down- and up-assist.
I have a 21 F350 Platinum 3.31 gear showing 4017 payload and occupants on the sticker. I only pull about 8700 pounds but feel like the exhaust brake is ok in tow haul. Definitely not a jake brake but it works. I added airbags to mine because I don't like squat and someday I may get a big trailer. Mine is factory ride height as well. Love the truck, buuut, Ford can keep all the honks and ok's and dings. I know my door is open , I know the trailer is hooked up. Geeez I picked the blue oval for two reasons. The GM trucks are ugly and the cab on the Ford is huge. Ford is possibly putting steps on the beds but I am not a fan.
If I remember correctly the GVWR on the tremor is lower cause the suspension is built more for off roading So the F-350 tremor has 10.1k GVWR The normal F-350 has 14k GVWR Now with the fog lights to me I like the ford ones more cause it seems like in the fog they do better sense they don’t reflect as much
JB ,When are you going to evaluate a 22 HD3500 to tell us how bad they are ?Isn't the air bag option about about Grand?Even a bar stool/couch mechanic should be able to install one on a GM/Ford for that much.
I'm a big man with a big back I have not liked the GM seats for a long time seems like the Ford and Rams have the most comfortable seats am I right? Thank you love your videos
I looked at a f350 srw platinum the other day and it had a payload of 3970ish lbs compared to my Ram 3500 srw of some where around 3640. I'm not sure what the gvwr on the f350 was but that extra 300lbs would be nice. Love the Ford but I just got back from a trip and the ram exhaust brake is amazing while in the colorado mountains. I think with calibration, the ram with more gears will still be able to keep the exhaust brake strong.
Ford also rates payload on their guides as every seat has a 150lb passenger. The sticker on the door jamb will actually show higher. I believe a long box crew cab f-350 can have around 45-4700lbs on the sticker.
I've seen other reviews where the F350 engine brake (2023 model) worked extremely well down long mountain passes towing close to its max load! Just because, as you say, "it doesn't do what you'd like it to do" doesn't mean you should "hate it!" Also, and I'm only a few minutes into your... "hate" on the F350, you said you don't like the 10-speed transmission because it doesn't give you that slam? or kick? into lower gears. With, the adaptive transmission you can easily select how many gears you want to use, down to 5 speeds! You'll get all the kick you want with it maxed out or down to 5 or 6 speeds! Just for perspective I am currently looking for my 4-ever truck with all the bells and whistles, and I'm currently focused on the Dodge 3500. So far, they ALL have their own unique pros and cons. Prices are definitely the biggest con for any truck nowadays! But, so far the Ford F350 Lariat & Limited Edition are the front runners. I am wide open to selecting only the best all-around truck on the market today. I'm also keeping meticulous notes (its become a mission of sorts🙂) and may make them available to anyone who would like to see them when I'm done. I am a retired Coast Guard Officer with tons of back yard automotive experience and a lifetime of owning 1 ton trucks. As well as driving them hard! That's it! I would hasten to say that I'm sure everything I've focused on and intend to pass on to others is probably available somewhere on TH-cam, but I have yet to see it ALL on one site. I have no interest in how many views I get as well. I hope to be finished this endeavor later this month (April '24) or early May (also 2024) if anyone is interested.
Personally I find all brands are the same now a days. It’s just preference. I’m a Ram guy so I’ll be sticking with that but hey I don’t care what you buy. It’s your personality that matters!
When you talked about towing weight than I wanted to say that is kinda an off-road truck you could drive it onroad to but the ram will be able to tow a lot more
Brother, you help me out a lot with my education on these two vehicles, ram and Ford. But if you’re doing a lot of towing, you got to be experimenting with the duallys! Once again, I respect you and your content, but you need to make this right It’s night and day between single wheel axle and dual wheels
Ford also has a 12400 gvwr. my f350 has the 12400 gvwr.couple options have to be clicked for example you get the heavy duty front suspension and camper package “extra leaf”. I also believe the tremor also has a lower gvwr because it is more of an off road packaged truck. Could be wrong. Great video!
Just my experience, I personally own a 22 Ram 2500 but I drive a 19 F-350 cab & chassis 6.7 6spd 4:10 gear ratio with a PJ 25k trailer for work here in southwest PA. The trailer is 6800lbs empty and haul various equipment and material. My heaviest piece weighs in at just over 17k. Putting me really close to being maxed out on gross. The truck does well but I control the shift points by manually working thru the gears. The same load behind the Ram 3500 drw with 4:10 will literally slowly pull away from the Ford and that trailer is 1000lbs heavier at 7800lbs. Now granted the Ford is defined but I was still surprised. The Ford exhaust brake is weaker but I can counter it with the trans at a higher rpm's. I just know what I'm working with! Now explain to me why Ram in this day and age still have crappy brakes? That's my #1 complaint and #2 is putting the shift points on the steering wheel and a turn knob for the gear selection 🤦♂️. But truthfully I would drive any of these new trucks but I've always have been able to get the Ram cheaper in my area.
I have a '22 F350 CCLB SRW ultimate lariat and the GVWR IS 12,400# with a payload of 4,038# on a 3.31 axle. It's all about how it's optioned. The "problem" with the truck you're using is it's optioned for "off road" with the tremor package. It's factory leveled and not properly optioned for heavy hauling. I've also been on pretty steep grades and had the engine brake hold me back very well while towing, to the point of having to actually accelerate down the hill on a couple occasions. Granted I don't tow a 5er yet, I have a 38' 11k# TT.
And thats the difference between a long bed and a short bed curb weight... like I said, options. Solid comparison videos though, the world needs that. Thanks for the content.
Exactly
Using the engine brake with out a trailer as review is like eating a huge meal then going to a sub shop and doing a review of there food.
4:17 “The nice thing I hate about the Ford is…” Tell me you’re a Dodge fan, without telling me you’re a Dodge fan. 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds like my first Ford.. a 81 Full size, standard cab, 4 on the floor, long bed with a 302.
Was a fun truck!
@jjmaldonado21 i keep telling people ford is the most used truck in industry for a reason I never see much chevys being used
I don’t use use automatic brake when towing. I use full brake and tow haul mode. Works for me on my 2021 F350 dually. I test drove an 3500 dually ram. That ride sucks. Hard on my back
U sure
The one i saw was very nice limited edition a bit newer

Dude, get off the dope lol
It is interesting to learn about these hd trucks. I appreciate the time you spend using and explaining the ups and downs of the variety of trucks and options and the costs.
Thanks bro 👍🏾
Have you tried a RAM exhaust brake….didn’t think so…
Yeah you should probably try ram Cummins
I've drove both..... while towing the Ford and the Ram both do great. My F350 held better than my buddies Ram.
He has the gas version!
I agree the engine brake is better on the Ram however when I am towing I run my transmission in manual and that helps with it a lot.
💯

If you ran just the engine brake it’ll actually slow the truck down but when you double click to auto engine brake it just maintains the speed.
Good stuff and I have heard of people doing this, thanks 👍🏾

Exhaust breaks don’t work that well on level ground. An exhaust brake is a butterfly valves that closes in the hot side of the turbo causing back pressure which slows the vehicle. So the turbo has to be able to spoil up to be effective. You are thinking about a compression break which opens the exhaust valves at TDC using engine compression to slow the the truck
I drove a ram 3500 and it felt like I was driving a school bus power wise. Brakes were very soft too. Also the cab space is very cramped feeling. All it has is a good exhaust brake 😂
Rams are notorious for poor brakes.
I have a ram 2500 and that’s the one thing I hate about it, Definetly not confidence inspiring when pulling a heavy load
Great.

Thanks JB.
For the price of the trucks I shouldn't have to buy anything aftermarket for it to fix such a stupid issue

12400 is the max GVWR. My 22 F350 is specked out this way: Lariat FX4 CCLB 6.7 has slightly over 4100lbs of payload.
My 2017 diesel f250 while towing with a 6 speed transmission works just fine at slowing the truck down and aggressively downshifts.
Have you checked out the new 2023 Ford F350? Some of the things you talked about they addressed. It's a total ground up redesign
Gvwr is based on package and added amenities. You can get a higher gvwr with a lower trim level. Otherwise the obvious answer is drw’s.

The Aisin is a really good trans. It pulls very well. I pull a 42ft rv, and sometimes i forget its back there. 50 gallon fuel tank. Fantastic trucks.
$250 + fill-ups (August 18th, 2022) @ $5.09 here in Michigan.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Haha. You don't have a 10speed Allison transmission. "Allison branded" . Same crappy 10 speed as the Ford.

An 06 ford lmao compared to a brand new truck
@@Bangin0utWest Exactly
So, what I was reading up on a 10 speed transmission. It allows the truck to find a better gear for acceleration and slowing down. That it finds a better RPM and to not get that grunt. I’m not a mechanic but to me that grunt is being harder on the engine. I have a ram Cummins and you are right, the exhaust break is amazing but from what I am reading these new fords just pull with more power than the dodges.
If you have a trailer hooked up, why would you need the tailgate step??
For me, at least, the trailer becomes my step.
100% agree with the trans and the engine brake I do miss that from my ram

No problems with your Ram transmission yet?
The exhuast break works smart. What's that mean... the computer, breaks, Trans all work together with the exhuast break.
It does not works as aggressive as the ram when just driving when my buddy with his ram and I had my f350 towing.... my exhuast break stayed steady and it held constant speed will his ram was gaining speed and he had to use his break.
While towing the Ford works great, but don't work great when you're not towing.
Mines gas 7.3 Crew cab XLT 11,300 gvwr, but payload is 4088 lbs, also ordered with corner step . love it
I have a F350 and never had an issue on I70 in Colorado which is the real test for nearly 20 miles.

The exhaust brake is what moved me over to Ram and I sure have had great luck. Cummins is the best anyway.
JB Reviews, good opinion on the Ford Super Duty! In your opinion do you think GM has a better exhaust break than Ford?
Do you prefer the 2022 gmc 3500 or the 2022 f350 for towing fifth wheels
Each is own, I appreciate your review .The 2019 F250 I use for hotshot with 36 ft goose neck is ah monster. Tons of power, Engine brake works great. The fuel mileage sucked with mud tires it had on it when I bought it but actually getting the correct tire made a huge difference.
2022 F350 8ft box gets you up from 6ft beds 3300-3500 est. to 4400 est lbs of payload. Tremor also lowers tow ratings I believe.
What are you talking about?

The 'exhaust brake' sucks big time on the Ford 💯
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I wonder if it’s the V8 design because GM is no better…
@@JB_WhoWork it’s not, it’s because The motor Cummins is an original motor from a semi truck and they have to be able to have an amazing engine break or exhaust break so they’re just better because they’re more experienced with it in semi trucks
@@kaydendressler4469 Not same design at all.
I'm on I-70 Colorado between Denver and the western slope - never a problem and I haul 25k +/= on the trips. I have a 19 F350.
You are 110% correct about Ford!!!!
Love my 2005 Ford F-350 FX4 Diesel 6.0 PowerStroke Dually...mint condition no problems at all except a radiator and Bank A fuel injectors...
My 19 year old d max will stay at what ever I have cruise control set when I start down hill usually 55-60. With 12k toy box. I just smile
💪🏾💪🏾
I’m glad you brought up the tailgate. I was going to add the step, just to have it. But maybe not now.
My 6.7 doesn't have much of an exhaust brake. Tow/Haul mode on my truck definitely does good enough though atleast. For mountains of Montana towing.
Totally unsure how to upload a picture, my 2020 F-350 says 4002 lbs. In the bed.
I'm not a ford fan but I'm the same a radio ac heater and phone calls good nuff
the tremor has more of a off-road based suspension compared to a normal f350
Google’s product naming is clear as mud.)
As for the rest of the dash, I have dials, not screens, and it works fine. I wish Ford would introduce a remote D-pad for operating the center-dash screen. I got spoiled by my Acura, and now I really don’t like making long reaches to jab at a screen on a bumpy road.
Also agree about that heavy tailgate. I’d like both down- and up-assist.
Not exactly an apples to apples when you have a tremor. You should be comparing to a power wagon
You can also get the corner drop down step with Ford.
If I remember correctly the GVWR on the tremor is lower cause the suspension is built more for off roading
So the F-350 tremor has 10.1k GVWR
The normal F-350 has 14k GVWR
Now with the fog lights to me I like the ford ones more cause it seems like in the fog they do better sense they don’t reflect as much
Hey JB ... Can you do a video & let us know if the engine brake is not performing properly with your Trailer in Tow ?
JB ,When are you going to evaluate a 22 HD3500 to tell us how bad they are ?Isn't the air bag option about about Grand?Even a bar stool/couch mechanic should be able to install one on a GM/Ford for that much.
Isn't the ford cab and chassis engine derated?
You can get retractable steps for the Ford too.
@@umstewpot wow, I did know that. Do you have a link to that info or tell me where I can find it to check it out?
I've seen other reviews where the F350 engine brake (2023 model) worked extremely well down long mountain passes towing close to its max load! Just because, as you say, "it doesn't do what you'd like it to do" doesn't mean you should "hate it!"
Also, and I'm only a few minutes into your...
What year and trim is this model?
I have the 2019 and mine works perfectly. Take it to the dealer
Personally I find all brands are the same now a days.
It’s just preference.
I’m a Ram guy so I’ll be sticking with that but hey I don’t care what you buy.
It’s your personality that matters!
I don’t have that issue with my 19 350, exhaust and down shift works good
When you talked about towing weight than I wanted to say that is kinda an off-road truck you could drive it onroad to but the ram will be able to tow a lot more
12,000 packages are available with the towing package. It odd that it didn't come with that being as you have the trailer brake etc.
Brother, you help me out a lot with my education on these two vehicles, ram and Ford. But if you’re doing a lot of towing, you got to be experimenting with the duallys! Once again, I respect you and your content, but you need to make this right
It’s night and day between single wheel axle and dual wheels
Ford also has a 12400 gvwr. my f350 has the 12400 gvwr.couple options have to be clicked for example you get the heavy duty front suspension and camper package “extra leaf”. I also believe the tremor also has a lower gvwr because it is more of an off road packaged truck. Could be wrong. Great video!
Thanks for sharing, you must have a 3.55 rear as well 👍🏾
It does have a 3.55 as well
@@Jbs6187 of coarse its a fake tremor, first giveaway is the long front valance, then the 20 inch wheels.
Someone just added a sticker to this truck so it’s not a true tremor but if it had a 12400# GVWR, it would’ve had more payload than your truck 👍🏾
And thats the difference between a long bed and a short bed curb weight... like I said, options. Solid comparison videos though, the world needs that. Thanks for the content.
