What a wonderful gift from the previous table owner. Definitely worth the wait. It's always interesting to see how different folks arrange furniture. I really liked your wing back chair in the corner by the window. It made for a cozy reading nook. Depending on the dimensions, I would have placed the sofa parrallell to the fireplace and the loveseat under the mirror, or visa versa if the sofa is too long. The round table could then go in the corner created by their arms and be used by folks sitting in either space. That way you're not covering up your heat register with the sofa. That would leave the window free for decorating later. So many options. So much fun!

Such a nice space. I love how you layered the art on the mantle. I have a very good Lane sofa i bought second hand for $75. It is extremely comfortabe. It was very clean but I neve liked the colot. The round table is gorgeous. My grandparents had the exact table in their living room in their home. They both picked out quality pieces that are meant to last a lifetime. I'm 65 and this was one of my favorites growing up. They are both gone now and their daughter has it in her home. It still looks gorgeous. So happy for you on this beautiful timeless piece! The wall behind the mirror would look so good in a bright Cranberry. Just a touch of whitewash on the brick wall too. Love your styling and eye for treasure. I WANT THAT ROUND TABLE!!!. LOL. I'll keep on searching for one.

Great idea to change up the room for the seasons. I wish I had your patience. The pillowcase you made was very pretty. Have you considered an even bigger change by changing the wallpaper and painting for even more impact? I personally like to change my paint colors on walls and furniture.

Oh yes, I'd love to remove that wall paper & border! It came with the house and hasn't made it to the top of the priority list...yet. We have done all the remodeling ourselves as budget and time allow. For now, ideas are percolating... Maybe whitewash the brick, maybe paint the shelving. I'd love to recover the teal loveseat... I have blue calico dishes circa 1976. I no longer like them but I keep them 🤷🏼♀️. I guess because I worked so hard to save up for them at age 17. I now love anything green and cream, and the red and cream is probably my favorite.

A full length tufted cushion, curtains hung outside the window frame, roller blinds inside, built in drawers underneath for storing games and extra pillows/blankets. Your china shopping makes me jealous. I have a decent collection of china, crystal, and transferware - but when my husband and I combined houses, he had three young boys... so it's all packed away! I'm just starting to pull it out again and rediscover all the chintzy loveliness I've stored away!

Your thrift choices are beautiful. The gifted round table is perfect; I remember my grandmother had one! The new pillow cover, birthday painting from your MIL, your husband’s meaningful work of art and display on the fireplace so lovely too. Unfortunately, the position of the pillows and throws on the sofas to me overpower the look of the room (sometimes less is more in a space IMO).

I would love to have built-ins installed on either side of the fireplace, and paint them. Find an antique mantel piece that actually fits, maybe whitewash the brick, remove the (80's?) wall paper and border that came with the house & paint the wall... It will all come with time as the budget allows. Thank you for the suggestions!

Everything came out so nice I love that wingback chair I love transferware and I have Calico blue I think decorating cottage style is organic it just comes along Through The Years pieces that you love that you pick up not all at once for sure
You're right, this method of decorating does just happen as you go along, which is good! It allows time for the room to "settle" and the items to really be useful and cohesive. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by for a visit!
OK, I am having way too much fun looking at the design of your living room! Do you know what could be a good in between until you’re able to change out the carpet down the road… I would add a lovely old vintage or very inexpensive oriental type rug or even seagrass… Tho the oriental rug would add more of a pop! Please forgive me for offering advice or ideas! I do this part time for a living, and I get so excited to see the direction you are headed with your house! Also, do you have plans for your walls or that wallpaper border?
I totally understand the excitement ~ especially if the style is close to your own! I love getting the feedback and suggestions, they are a help. Yes, eventually we'd like to lay wood flooring throughout the house when the budget allows. And, yes, I would totally do an oriental rug! The wall paper (and border) will definitely go. They came with the house, and I've never quite understood waves in the living room? There is also glittery popcorn on the ceiling... Lots of projects! Only two of us, but we are enjoying the journey. Absolutely lovely changes. It was a terrific pillow cover that you made. I would have liked to have seen it on the chair. I have one question how do you store the items you use between seasons? When storage is at a premium I always find it difficult putting things away and then rediscovering them when the season rolls around again. I am always interested in how other people work out that. Lovely Rachel, you've done an amazing job with your living room. It looks like something out of a story book. I've become obsessed with red/pink transfer ware. So any chance I find it at reasonable prices I'll snap it up.
It's still really cold here in South Australia and we've been told to expect a wet summer. That means it's going to be very cold at night where I live. I've managed to find an antique spinning wheel and will be joining a spinners group a couple of towns over. Hoping to eventually spin my own fibre, I have sheep and goats, all rescues, and then turning that into jumpers and blankets. I think this will help keep me warm on those cold nights xx

The Thrift Stores were too price for my budget and I happen to find one on Facebook Marketplace for half the price from the Thrift Store and FREE delivery!!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️. I am now on the hunt to collecting Vintage Dog Art. The Scottish Terrier are my favorite! To me they say English Cottage. So I'm dreaming of creating a Gallery Wall of my love for dogs! 💚🐩. the only piece that i think detracts from your room is the sofa w/all the different coverings. it detracts from your vision of a cozy but typical well ordered british style living room.
a one piece slip cover would be a much better choice & investment until you could find another sofa/love seat that you like better at a fair price. you might even find that the slipcover makes your sofa perfect with just that. thats my 2cents. everything else looks charming. i enjoy your talent.

Thank you! There is truth in your observations. I'm starting to build our home with the pieces we've been given. It takes time to save up the resources for "new" pieces. Every chance I get I choose pieces that support my style, and in the mean time some items will clash with others until they're replaced. The idea is to do the best you can with what you have. Too many colors that do not match and odd furniture placement but i do love the use of books and lamps. Too much draping of cloth on the sofa. just recover it if you don't like it.
