I loved this video. You give me such inspiration and I appreciate the details of how you choose your treasures to bring home. Now in my 6th decade, and children grown, I am wanting to develop my home into my vision. I want a cottage theme and you have given me so many ideas. thank you.
Good morning Rachel. My love of all things old was fueled by 2 of my Aunts who lived in New England. As a little girl I was interested in how their homes were furnished and yes I was allowed to touch. As a grown woman I am drawn to the primitive style. When the time came to start making a house a home, I found a magazine that offered authenticity in decorating in that style. I cut out the articles that interested me and began a folder of them. When the time came to build our saltbox home, I was ready. Oh should mention that I am an 80yr old woman who still loves to shop in her own home and reinvent my decor. Thanks Rachel, always get good comments and ideas from you!!!
Good morning, Miss Bonnie! What a wonderful design heritage to pull from! How I'd love to tour your home ~ it sounds delightful! I appreciate you visiting today and am glad to know you gleaned some ideas. Have a lovely weekend!
I’m also an older lady that still enjoys and appreciates home decor - my style is also country prim style and appreciate authenticity even though I have had to blend in some reproduction style pieces and allow for comfort and functionality. It’s nice to see a comment from someone older that still enjoys decor
Dear sweet Rachel. I too am 80 plus now and follow your every posting. I love everything you do, and am so inspired to get out there and go thrifting. I live in an apt and don't have a lot of room, so I'm limited in some things. But, what I do have, I love. The English cottage look is my hearts desire. I'm working on it. Thank you for everything you do. I love my collection of teapots 🫖, and wish I hadn't but the leather chair from Pier One. I much prefer fabric, or even a good wicker one. Oh how I go on...Thank you again for bringing us along on your journey!
@@DeannaMoyers Hello, Miss Deanna! Even though I love the English cottage style I've been noticing of late that a few primitive pieces mixed in has quite the handsome effect. Your home sounds lovely! How I wish I could come do home tours of these lovely homes my guests have!
@@joannanderson3076 Good morning, Miss Jo Ann! One can only imagine what a charming treasure box your home must be... It's inspiring to hear that you still care even if you are in an apartment. We hold the same opinion about leather ~ fabric is far better. The tea pot collection sounds delightful! I just wish I could see a picture! Thank you for visiting today!
La lámina del barco de velas, pero q ilusión me ha hecho es Preciosa, y además es el mes y el año q yo nací Febrero de 1952, tienes mucha suerte de tenerla😮😊
Hi Rachel! Thank you for your video. I love the cozy way your home is decorated. I also love looking for old books. I was so happy to see the classic titles on many of your collection. I always feel so disappointed when people turn their books backwards so you can’t see the titles. I feel robbed of an opportunity to know them better! Or horror of horrors they buy old books in bulk and promote the fact you never have to read them!! One thing I’ve admired is you amazing art collection. I really don’t seem to find anything I like as much as yours so I’ve been trying to focus in on that when I shop. I also appreciate the fact that you focus on making your home a happy place for your husband as well. Looking forward to your next video!
Hello Miss Lynny, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and find the art inspiring.att and I have been talking about creating more videos featuring art. From buying the art to hanging it, is there anything in particular you'd like to see, or have questions about? I'd love to get your feedback!
I found your channel a few days ago and have spent some time watching several of your decorating videos. I love how you use the word "cultivate" and it has really impacted my thinking about my little home. I have always loved antique stores and have been applying the idea of using thrift stores with a discerning eye for a majority of my shopping for my home. I will branch out to antique stores more, now that I have a clearer vision of what I want my home to look and feel like. My daughter is currently serving as the Arizona Rose. She competed at the Rose of Tralee Festival in County Kerry this past August. She is going back to Ireland for a brief visit and I've asked her to find either an Irish lace table cloth or a pair of Irish lace curtains for me. I'm excited to see what she can find with help from her Rose Sister in Galway! . Part of my style journey involves incorporating my heritage into my home decor. :)
Good morning Miss Cynthia! I'm glad you've found useful concepts to apply in your home. Doesn't it feel good to have a fairly solid idea of what you want and like for you home, then get it for a great price?! It's also nice to know you've saved money in enough areas that you can responsibly spend more on other pieces from the antique store. The Irish lace sounds lovely! Thanks for stopping by and sharing!
I'm an artist and 78 yo. My tastes have evolved over the years... Having inherited furniture from my grandmothers and Aunts, I have been attracted to more things built in the 1800's to 1940's. Also my husbands mother left him a couple of oak pieces from the 80's. I have blended it all together with art work from myself and my friends, antiques and thrifted things. I have a floral carpet in the living room with two shades of blue, maroon, pale ecru and a sort of light coral. The blue repeats all over the house. Maroon and pink in florals in bedrooms. And my office in a sort of masculine look, paintings, darker colors and my easel. I like so many different things and have inherited such a mixture. The name Granny Chic has become poplular and describes my home perfectly... I am Granny Chic.
Your home sounds like a wonderful expression of your taste ~ and what a blessing to have inherited all these pieces! Granny Chic is fantastic if you ask me! Thank you for visiting today and sharing part of your story.
Hello...your channel is great, seems to me that it's difficult to find a channel such as yours, not quite primative, not quite Americana, your touch of vintage ( for lack of a better discription ) is perfect...just my size, style, taste....in much of your thrift finds. And "yep" I've learned thru time to go FIRST thrifting for ANYTHING I have in mind for my surroundings...the pay off is BIG TIME those of us like minded are indeed treasure hunters and like those true treasure hunters/explorers our searches are rewarded....👍🏻byeeeeee for now Friend
Those plates were a steel! ❤ Here in the Netherlands I saw such plates for 15,- Euros each second hand. The Dutch canister has the Townhall of Gouda on it. Stroopwafels are kept in it. Love the canister and the rug. You’ve got such a good eye! Lovely things.
Well I just love this and I just started watching decorating shows like 3 days ago and you are my favorite. I really like all your ideas and the way you explain things and then I think to myself but I have a puppy and I have kitties (and kitties ruined furniture and baskets and all kinds of things.) So it's hard for me to know what I can and can't do. I feel like my house is messy looking and that's not what I want. I want it to be clean and nice and homey/cozy. So I'm going to continue to try and watch and learn. I really love the dishes and I really love the red dishes the most. Well I also really loved that table and the long basket in the ottoman and I love the way you said to make lists and keep things in mind and colors that go together and start smaller and expensive things. You just have so much common sense along with the wonderful sense of decorating. Thank you
My biggest decorating challenge is marrying two different styles that I love; English Country & Rustic. I gravitate towards log homes with natural elements like wood and stone. But I also love English Country styles. I’m trying to pull off marrying these two decorating styles and have it look really good. I don’t want it to look like I couldn’t decide between these two styles. I want to use both styles and have it flow like a cohesive design. This has been my biggest challenge in decorating our home.
Good news on two fronts! First, the cottage style is an easy-going adaptable look. Second, there are many "rustic" elements in the country cottage style, like wood floors, rough hewn beams, and brick or stone walls. You would probably enjoy Ros Byam Shaws' book: "Perfect English Farmhouse." It has a genteel roughness that feels comfortable and yet pretty. Also, you might enjoy exploring my cottage style boards on Pinterest. I'd love to hear what you come up with!
Your videos are always so interesting and informative! I love your tips and Idea. Our home of 51 years contains antiques, thrifted, flea market and auction items. I love the thrill of the hunt! Keep doing exactly what you are doing! So glad I found you!
Welcome to the Stone Cottage Home family, Miss Sharon! We're glad to have you along! We've got more thrifting & antiquing planned. Thanks for stopping by today!
Oh my goodness, where do you live??? I never see antiques like those in the stores where I live. It would make life so much easier to find stuff like that. Even your thrift store has wonderful items. The art work you have access to is amazing. Love the new ottoman. and transferware. My first set of dishes were blue transferware I found two sets at a Ross, Staffordshire. I've added rose plates of different kinds to them over time.
Hello, Miss Leslie! We live in Oklahoma. The thrift stores are a blessing and I enjoy keeping an eye out for things for my friends as well. Your dishes sound lovely. Have a gorgeous spring day! 🌺
Really enjoyed the making of the lampshades and hope to try your method very soon. Love your art finds. Look forward to your next video of your English style cottage, being from England 🇬🇧 myself I have a fondness of the cotswold style decorating.
I like your videos very much! I'm learning a lot. I'm spanish but I love the english cottage/country stile from I was a child. Thanks for your work, follow like this! please 🤗☀️
Thank you! How fun to be rekindling a love of the decor style you admired as a child ~ I'm sure that feels very homey. Thanks for visiting and have a lovely day!
I watched this while getting my ironing done this morning and it helped to remember some important things in my decor. I have a tendency to scatter things I love throughout my home but I often wonder why it doesn’t make a statement or have the impact I am after. This was an excellent refresher course for me and so timely as I change things around and add spice to my decor for fall. All of a sudden my little hamster wheel in my mind had been greased and started spinning like crazy and I remembered how much I love my brass and gold pieces for autumn and in less than 5 minutes I had to stop and draw out a beautiful centerpiece for my dining table. I am using that thought to bring cohesiveness to all I put in my dining room and to freshen up old pieces with gold paint to pull it all together. You always work magic on me, Rachel, with your sweet voice and your contagious excitement and your knowledge. I thank you so much for being YOU.✨❤️✨
It is always so good to hear from you, Chick in Charge! I've experienced the same thing with inspiration and giving my decor a "refresh". You ideas for the fall dining area sound beautiful ~ so glad to have greased that hamster wheel for you! Your comments always brighten my day! 🌸
I collect the same red dishes. My mom collected the blue. After she passed I gave her set to one my sons and his wife. They also love all things vintage. Thank you for all the inspiration.
About my own tips and mistakes: almost two years ago, I was faced with a COMPLETE home decoration project literally from the ground up. I had no major pieces of furniture, not even a bed! But I knew I wanted a cottage-style home, and, although I like other styles, I had to learn to focus *hard* on where I was really going. For example, I was swooning over a robin's egg blue sofa, but opted instead for a cream colored sofa with vintage lines because it would be more versatile. I'm glad I did, as now I know I can add pillows and throws to change the mood of the room, or to observe the seasons. I couldn't have done that if I'd have lost focus and given in to my impulse. In fact, I'd say that every one of my design "fails" happened because I lost focus! I'd say that patience and reflection are also a valuable skill to cultivate when decorating. I tried very hard to avoid "impulse buys" because I didn't want to waste money on items I wasn't able to return. Sometimes, when a piece is right, you just know. In all other cases, if you feel any hesitancy at all, *trust your gut feeling* and think about it for a day. Often, your initial impression is the correct one! I think the most difficult thing I've had to learn is SCALE: what's too big or too small for my space (the main rooms in my 1927 cottage have 11' high ceilings, so this was especially difficult to learn!) And even more confusing is that what may look correct in one room looks incorrect in another because of a difference in scale of the pieces around it. I think your tip about splurging on a more expensive piece of furniture to build a room around is very good advice. I did this in all my rooms and it really helped me to get my "focus". One last tip: nearly *everyone* has relatives who want to get rid of old decor items. Some of my most favorite "finds" have been in my sister's cottage basement, or my Mother's storage closet. Don't hesitate to call your relatives and ask if they have any pieces they don't want! You'd be surprised how eager many people are to get rid of "clutter." As the old saying goes: "one person's trash is another person's treasure."
Good afternoon, Miss Suzanne What wonderful feedback! I too have had the same experience with impulse purchases, and have learned to really observe my own reactions to things. Sometimes it's the perfect piece, I bring it home and it fits seamlessly. When I began decorating I made lots of "impulse" mistakes as I learned what we truly liked and used. There is also an art to getting things that go together. Scale is also important! You have the fun of balancing high ceilings,. On the other hand, I've seen a British designer place a large four poster bed in a small room. Not only did it work, but it elevated the room and added tan element of unexpected pleasure. You're spot on about having focus. For me color is a big player. It can be hard to turn down wonderful pieces just because the color isn't in your palette. Even though this seems restrictive it actually gives more freedom as you can then use your items in so many more ways and places. Thank you for sharing! P. S. I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What tips, challenges, questions would you have? I'd love to hear your thoughts.🌹
When we bought our first house I saw a blue and white lamp in a store and I fell in love with it. I still remember how much it cost, $50 and that was a lot of money for me back in 1975 when I didn't even have much furniture yet, so I passed but I kept thinking about it. I set a little money aside here and there and after a cash birthday gift I went back and bought it. I have been married for 49 years, we are on our eighth home and I still have that lamp. It ended up being the inspiration for my decor in my whole first house and I learned that a small thing like a painting, lamp or pillow can be the inspiration for a whole room.
Oh, I just love stories like this one! You've discovered a handy truth ~ you can build a lovely design scheme from a single piece that you really love. Plus, it pays to wait and save for those things! Thank you for sharing this bit of wisdom.
The thing I find most difficult in design is creating a gallery wall. I know I have the perfect pictures but designing the way the pictures will look best always gives me trouble I even cut out templates but for whatever reason I become dissatisfied and pictures don’t end up hung. Especially when doorbells, light switches and wall lighting get in the way. Enjoyed your video and it’s always a pleasure to hear your tips ~ Janet 😘
Good evening OJReynolds, It sounds like you have a good collection of art pieces to draw from - this is a great place to be! Have you see my video on how to hang a gallery wall? Hopefully it will go e you some ideas. Don't give up, a wall with art is a daily satisfaction! Thanks for stopping by. 🌹
Hello Rachel, thank you for the tips. I had learn by error a few of them. Better late than never. Here is tip for that you may know already. When you buy or already have furniture with scratches I love to use Old English Scratch Cover for dark woods, and permanent black Sharpie for deep scratches, you apply it and immediately run your finger over it, it works really well.
Hi Rachel! We moved out of State to a home twice as big as our last.. This new home had been in the market for almost a year , it’s required much work. With all the beautiful custom molding my husband has done, that has helped with design direction, the challenge was that we really had no furnishings other than bedrooms furniture as we left much of our pieces behind to sell, and some were given to our daughter. It has taken me 8 years and I’m still working on my home. I’ve purchased many items at estate sales and some on marketplace, our town is not very equipped with good thrift stores for furnishings . I have a cross between English and French traditional styling .. at least my home doesn’t echo anymore.. My gallery wall was inspired by your video , so thank you very much! I am a fan ☺️💕
Good morning Miss Valentina, What an enjoyable journey to be creating this home over the last eight years with your husband. Those are precious days & memories upon which to build a home. French and English styles mix so well, and I only wish I could see your home and gallery wall! Thank you so much for your kind support of our channel, it's a blessing. Speaking of mixing styles... I'm considering making a video on how to mix styles & I'd like to get your thoughts. What would you say were/are your challenges, questions, tips? I'd appreciate any feedback!
@@StoneCottageHome I’d love to send photos and get your thoughts. I have before and after; another challenge is living in a home with blank walls , big rooms, and a small budget. It took a while to really “feel” my space .. it has evolved! I’m not a winter person with regards to lack of colour, I live in idaho and it can be dreary for several months until mid spring , so colour is very important.
Hello Rachel, I am a new follower of Stone Cottage Home. I have been following for a couple of months! I absolutely love your taste in decor. I love to go thrifting! I have a weakness for baskets and wood accents..... You are so good at what you do keep up the good work.
Good morning, Cottage Letterbox! I'm excited to know you've been following along ~ welcome! Thank you for the encouraging words and support, it's a blessing. Have a gorgeous weekend!
A fabulous presentation Rachel! I really appreciate you sharing the back stamps on the china and lamp. Beautiful purchases! Very well done! Thank you!! 💞
PS. The Ottoman was a major score! The turning on those legs are to die for! And it’s exactly your color palette! What a gift from God… I always thank God after I find some thing that I just adore!
I totally agree! It really has everything to be a perfect fit for our living room ~ even down to the color & pattern of the fabric! Yes, the Lord is good in how He blesses his children. Have a fabulous weekend!
Loved this entire video. I especially love the brass ship bookends and lamp.... amazing unique pieces. And the upholstered ottoman at the end is over the top gorgeous!!!!!! I love a collected over time room . To me it is so cozy and homey . I am so over everyone having the same Hobby Lobby look. Same wall signs, 3 tied trays, same vases and artwork. It is so boring . This is what a home should feel like.
My husband and I recently moved from the city, where we decorated in a more contemporary fashion, to the country and an old stone home. Our furnishings felt really out of place in our new home so we decided to go with a cottage feel. It has become my hobby to slowly acquire all of the new old pieces to decorate our home. I love your style and find your videos very helpful and enjoyable to watch. Thanks so much for another great video!
Ah, it sounds like you've creatively met a challenging most wouldn't have recognized! It's so refreshing when homes are decorated sympathetically to their architecture. @@StoneCottageHome Oh my goodness. I think that would be awesome to have a video on mixing design styles. I love elements of several different styles (French country, French cottage, English country/cottage, etc🥰) but it’s hard to edit and incorporate different elements to make it feel cohesive. So I think that’s where I struggle (one area at least😁) and your insight would be greatly appreciated. 🥰 I also wanted to let you know that you are inspiring me to make a gallery wall. Yesterday, my husband and I taped craft paper to the wall to create just the right sized template and now I will lay the template on the floor so I can arrange the pictures to see how I want them, trace their outlines, number the backs of the pictures and on the template as well and then hang it back up, then hang up the pictures! (If my description makes any sense. Lol!) Anyway, I so greatly appreciate you sharing ideas and inspiring us all. You are truly a blessing.
oh my goodness this was wonderful! So many wonderful treasures and you found some wonderful things for Matt's clipper ship collection. 99% of my home is second hand and wouldn't trade it. I have a few concrete plant risers some smaller than yours, as well as the concrete planters that were my great grandparents and a great aunts. I however have them styled inside and cherish them. The rug is a perfect fit in the guest room as well. Thanks for taking us along once again, I'm always waiting for your video. I've been watching the old ones all over again in case I missed something lol. Have a blessed week

@@StoneCottageHome Hi Rachel! I was always into colonial/prim decor. It’s only been recently that I converted my master bedroom and bathroom to English country. I adore old things along with copper and pewter. I just love old stuff always have, my mother used to say she didn’t know who’s child I was lol. So I guess just making what we have work with the changes we’d like to incorporate.
You have wonderful insights and tips for putting together a home that is personal and comfortable, and doing it on a budget. I appreciate hearing about your home decorating adventures. It's been my approach for years. You mentioned that you weren't wild about a gold frame on some artwork you found - just today, I saw a quick, inexpensive fix for that. Jonathan Mendes, on his TH-cam channel Painted Love, put some dark wax over a gold leaf trim on a piece of furniture and it looked great. The wax really toned down the bright gold and gave that surface an aged look that went well with the rest of the piece. I'm going to try it on the frame a small print I just bought.
Great tip, Miss Dottie! I'm glad you are enjoying your visits to our channel and can resonate with our thoughts on creating a cozy welcoming home. Have a lovely spring day! 🌷

My husband describes my home as "the treasure hunter look" I have been collecting for about 4 years. So many regrets not purchasing certain items because I of trying to be a responsible buyer and going for a certain look. So now if I spend to much time contemplating whether I should buy something or not I just buy it. If it is within my budget of course. I always find unique and creative ways to put my finds in my home. I don't have a particular style. My home is just made up of items that I love. I love busts sculptures, original art work, China, lamps, vases. I collect vintage disco balls. I just love my house now that I let go trying to make my house look like someone else's. Love your chanel 💕

Fell hard for the items you purchased…especially the rug and dishes…you truly have that curated look in your home and the eye for it when you shop…thank you for taking the time to share all the tips and pictures that you used as examples…I know it must have been time consuming and your effort is most appreciated…❤
I loved this video, even though my home is overflowing with thrift store finds, this video made me want to go out and look. I love thrifting and finding treasure that I have used in my home, old pieces are so much better than new ones. Thank you and I will look forward to the next time.
This was a delight to view. What a clever, accomplished lady you are! You truly inspire me. I do not have your savvy with interior design and appreciate your detailed advise. Live spending time with you. Cheers 😁
You always find the best things. I love your style and the gentle calmness of your voice . i have a huge collection of Depression glass in green ,pink and yellow . I also collect vintage fire King Glass . I once found pie plates that were covered in burned on food but for $1.00 I took them sprayed them with oven cleaner and ran them through the dish washer and they look brand new . It is always a thrill to find the beautiful coloured glass pieces I know I should stop buying but they make me so Happy!
Hi Rachel, you look adorable and stylish, very French, in that shirt and scarf. I can't get over all the wonderful things you find. I'm lucky to find one good thing, and oftentimes none, when I go thrifting in my area.
@@StoneCottageHome Yes, you inspire in many ways. I think this is the cutest outfit I've seen on you so far. On second thought, it's probably more nautical than French.
Thank you for yet another sweet video. I love the ottoman and throw! And I really enjoy your classic, English cottage style, and the way you put it together. (My struggle is with my health. I have so many things I want to do in our home, but I'm totally backbound by illness. So for me, it's not a lack of ideas, but rather of strength to see projects through. A very frustrating situation, alas.
So sorry to hear this, especially when we think of so many things we want to accomplish but the body will not cooperate. Is there a way to incorporate small things you can do? I have noticed in my own life, small accomplishments are so gratifying, no matter how tiny. If it brings you joy, then by all means, start small. Sending prayers for you, don't give up young lady. 💖
Hello Inglish Home and Garden! Thank you for your kind comments, I'm glad you are enjoying your visits. I'll chime in with Miss Lina, small steps will make for good progress. Look for ways to make small improvements and focus on what you do love and can do. Blessings!
I purchased a used Craftsman/Mission style buffet, then changed my direction from rustic lodge to cottage style. I was pleasantly surprised that the Craftsman buffet looks good also with cottage! To me anyway! 🙂
Hello, there Miss Linda! From what I've seen cottage styles are easy-going and mix well with many styles. I can see where your Craftsman buffet would look lovely alongside cottage pieces! On that note, I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What questions, challenges, or tips would you have? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Good morning Miss Melinda, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit, and yes, the Lord did have those plates there for me! Your blue & white dishes in a blue wall sound classic and dreamy. Thank you for stopping by!
Hello Rachel! Thank you for another great video. I appreciate all the tips on focusing on your style and being patient yet persistent in gathering items to make the ideal home for yourself. Your video making skills are excellent and I enjoy watching everything you make.
Good afternoon, Miss Kathleen! I've enjoyed the Scottish plates, as sure you have. Both of them is displayed in our kitchen where they can be enjoyed every day. Thanks for visiting today!
My biggest struggle is finding the perfect sage green . I’m so visually attuned to color it drives my husband nuts. I usually paint several times until I get it just right ( walls, frames, furniture. Ehhhhhhh. Also finding a quilted bed cover. I don’t care for duvets which would make life much easier.
Great video! You teach a lot, and it’s a pleas to see all that you show us here. I appreciate also that you don’t just choose old books that look good, you also pay attention to the content of the printed book. Also, great brass finds. They are often pricey!
This video was so helpful! Thank you for giving me the framework to not buy everything at the thrift store. I have found difficulty nailing down a style until recently and these tips will help me even further
My goodness what wonderful finds. The transfer ware and the rug were my favourites. You have a very good eye. Sending my best wishes from Derbyshire, England!
Hello in England, Miss Janet! The rug was a delightful find, and I excited to use the red transfer ware plates the Christmas season. Thank you for popping by!
Love all your dishes. I too was on the look out for Old Britain Castle dishes but in purple. I bought a plate here and there but they were pricey. One day I went to an antique store and under a table was the purple dishes service for 8. I couldn’t believe it. Of coarse I bought them and they are so pretty. Just be careful if they are chipped because they do have lead

Hi Rachel! What a wonderful surprise for a Friday afternoon, a video from you, so thankful. I have just given you a new name..."America's Sweetheart". Truly you are a blessing. I loved this video, as you added so much inspiration, ideas, and to keep myself balanced...the reminder of thrifting. It is so worth the effort. I wanted to share what I have done in the past with fabric I love, and want to see daily, but have nothing to cover, apart from a pillow. Like you, I love gilded frames, prints of meaning to us. I have taken the fabric, lined the backboard, centered my print on top...voila'...a fabric mat that is warm and beautiful! I hope you can use this idea someday. Irish linen is another of my favorites, as is vintage flannel. You could make an outdoors vignette using these. For example: My husbands office is filled with old lithographs from the mountains, dreamy cabins, wildlife. And, old canteens, fishing lurers, old fly fishing baskets used for storage. I hung a very old fly fishing rod and reel on the diagonal on the wall, at the end of the fishing line, I placed a very old fly lure I found. Please tell Matt I am a huge fan of clipper ships too. I wish I could send pictures! God Bless you all for a wonderful week ahead❣
I absolutely love your channel! I struggle with hanging up at and photos. I feel like I just can't get it "right" on the wall. I feel very blessed because my little village has an amazing free room and free furniture barn at our dump. I get so many goodies for free!
Good evening Miss Mary, What a wonderful resource for treasures! If you haven't seen my video on how to hang a gallery wall, you might pick up a few tips there. Keep trying, walls with art are wall that express your personality and give such joy every day! Thanks for stopping by. 🌹
Good evening, Rachel. What a beautiful treasure trove you have shared! Such incredible finds. Thank you for sharing your tips! It always inspires me. - Bobbie xoxo.
Good afternoon Miss Bobbie, I'm so happy you enjoyed our visit & found it to be inspiring. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by. Have a lovely day!
This video was very impressive. You imparted knowledge on many subjects, lithographs, basket materials, furniture style, transferware. The orient express lamp-one of my favorite lamps was the inspired shade. Thank you, keep educating viewers about all these items.
This was lovely Rachel. Beauty does so lift one's spirits. Don't you find? The challenges for me are a dearth of good places. We have one 'eh' thrift store. That's it. We had a couple of decent places that closed in recent years. And no good yard sales are happening anymore either. Grumble.grumble.
Good afternoon, A Folsom! Beauty does lift the spirits. Don't give up! There many treasures to be found online - I've had great success on Facebook Marketplace (a free antique English drum side table), and you could try OfferUp, and Craigslist. Happy hunting!
Hi Rachel, Lovely video today and lots of tips - thank you. Its a good idea I think to always take along a tape measure in your bag when going shopping for furniture or larger items. A list of sizes your required item fits into is also handy - you just never know when you find something you feel is perfect but are unsure if it will fit into the space. Couldnt agree more with you about being selective and knowing your personal style. Some handy pictures for reference are good too. xx
Nice video, but as a professional framer, let me say that old school frosted glass is the worst. 25:13 How can you enjoy your beautiful art when everything is all fuzzy? While I understand not wanting glare, frosted glass is just as bad. There are better alternatives these days, which are easily paired with old frames. Non glare does not have to be frosted or make your art look fuzzy. You can get non glare that is actually polarized to enhance color so you can enjoy the details in the picture.
Hello Rachel, I learned something new from you today & that was I need to buy more baskets for my home & I want to thank you for you good advice my friend 😊
Rachel I just love how you are so thorough in your research, and then relaying what you know. Preloved items have always been a passion of mine, and I've learnt that if I can't afford exactly what I want, I swap/buy up until I can. Usually this will involve restoring what I have so that I can make enough money to finally purchase the antique I want. This, I have found, has helped me learn a lot about antique items. Researching how to restore items and what is a repro or authentic. The thrill of the hunt is such an adrenaline rush. Finally being able to find exactly what you want. I love pink/red transfer ware, but have always wanted the one made in the 1800's. Well you know how expensive it is and I was nearly ready to get the newer ones when I was lucky enough to find a whole set for FREE on FB marketplace. I did have to say what I was going to do with the set, but the lovely lady was happy that her great great grandmother's set would stay together. I pair it with my pink depression glass but I'm thinking of starting a green set to go with it 😊 Thank you again for another awesome episode, much love Liana xx
Good evening, Miss Liana! There is so much to learn about old things! When and how they were made and used. The thrill of the hunt... The challenge of repairing an old treasure - it's totally worth it! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experiences. By the way, I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What questions, challenges, or tips would you have? I'd like to hear your thoughts. 🌹
Good evening Mrs.Rachel, I enjoyed today video very much. I have a very fenimine style. I love French and English cottage style. I have choosen to combine the two. I love beauty in the French style but I also love practical side of the English. Like the comfortable couches of the English, but I love the French lamps. The English roses are lovely. I have loved antiques since I was a child. I have several in our home. It take time and patience to wait for what your looking for. You said it right about buying just because it's cheap or because your trying to fill something right now.I normally pray before I go thrifting ask God to to please allow a certain thing to be there today. He has always supplied. Part of the fun is the search. All the elements you mention I enjoy very much in my on home. I was so excited this summer I have been wanting an antique book case that has glass doors that lift up. They range from 2,000 to 3,000. I went to an antique store near me and got one for 50.00. That was my favorite find so far this year. Thanks again for share. Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend.
Hello Romantic Style, The glass front bookcase is (I believe) called a lawyer's bookcase. I've been look at them online recently, and they are expensive - you got a great deal! Patience paid off. Your mix of styles sounds lovely and these two particular styles mix well. I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What questions, challenges, or tips would you have? I'd love to hear your thoughts.🌹
@@StoneCottageHome The video on combining two style would be wonderful.I love floral, english gardens and cottages. I would love to learn how add more Masculine elements that would blend well. My husband was in the navy.So when you were showing the ships your husband liked. It made me think on how to blend the two. Love transware and dishes. I have a very small kitchen I struggle with storage. That looks good. Thank you again for taking time to reply.I truly appreciate it.
The one thing that helped me out is learning the flow of my house. We live in a 1990's ranch style home that was later built on to it. I finally figured out making the front two rooms a living room, which the previous owner had as a dining room and livingroom work better for us . From there is the kitchen then we have an Awkward small room with a fireplace. It took me several times to try to figure out that space out. Which I eventually made into a a small french cafe with a little bistro table chairs. I love drinking my tea or coffee in the morning there. There is another room off of that which now are dining room. Which worked perfectly with the amount of space this room offered. It took me four years to figure out what flow work for our family. Now I able to invision each room, and choose proper paint colors and furniture for each room.
Good morning, This is such a helpful comment! You have learned so much about listening to the needs of your family and the flow of the house. You've learned it takes time, observation, and practice to figure out what's best. These are valuable lessons. Working with your home instead of against it is a relief and gives success. I'm sure you'd say that the four years of "studying" your was well worth it, and you love your home even more!
THANK YOU FOR THE TIPS!!!! Yes, I am to the point where I need to be very thoughtful in what I purchase. In the beginning, I did EXACTLY what you are suggesting. GREAT ADVICE 👍🌷
I loved this video. You give me such inspiration and I appreciate the details of how you choose your treasures to bring home. Now in my 6th decade, and children grown, I am wanting to develop my home into my vision. I want a cottage theme and you have given me so many ideas. thank you.
Wonderful!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and share!
My wife says: "Your artfulness and style is delightful."
Good morning Mr, Charles,
Please tell your wife "thank you" for her kind comment. May you both have a lovely day.🍂
Good morning Rachel.

You said it!
Hello Miss Lynny,
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and find the art inspiring.att and I have been talking about creating more videos featuring art. From buying the art to hanging it, is there anything in particular you'd like to see, or have questions about? I'd love to get your feedback!
Dear Rachel, the joy you have over those red plates is the kind of therapy I need in my life. 😂I love all your videos!!! Thank you!
Aw, thank you, Miss Linda!
It is a joy to find pleasure in the simple things. Thank you for stopping by, and have a blessed day! 🌹
You definitely found a treasure trove ❤
Ms Rachel... you are such a genius with explaining decor, I really learn and understand each concept you teach. Thank-You!
I'm so glad you are finding your visits helpful, Miss Cynthia!
I'm glad you're here to follow along the decor & design journey with us!
Thanks for the info, and thanks for stopping by!

I'm pleased to know you found some inspiration to remember! May your home be a haven. Happy Autumn! 🍁🍂
Well I just love this and I just started watching decorating shows like 3 days ago and you are my favorite.
I really like all your ideas and the way you explain things and then I think to myself but I have a puppy and I have kitties (and kitties ruined furniture and baskets and all kinds of things.)
So it's hard for me to know what I can and can't do.
Thank you
Welcome to the Stone Cottage Home family, Miss Trinity! We are glad you've found us & hope you will find lots of helpful ideas for your home!
My biggest decorating challenge is marrying two different styles that I love;
English Country & Rustic.
@@StoneCottageHomeThank You Rachel! I did purchase that book and it is fabulous. I’m continuing to watch your videos and I am learning so much.😊

Thank you, Miss Annette!
How fun to meet someone else with a similar design style! I hope you give the pleated lampshade a try, it's easy!
Thank you... lovely video. 😊
You're welcome!
Thanks for dropping by!
I collect the same red dishes. My mom collected the blue. After she passed I gave her set to one my sons and his wife. They also love all things vintage. Thank you for all the inspiration.
Aren't the red transfer-ware dishes simple gorgeous, Miss Annette?!
I'm so excited to use them this year for Christmas! Thanks for sharing.🌹
Very good choices. Greetings from Spain!
Glad you enjoyed your visit, and welcome!
Good afternoon, Miss Suzanne
What wonderful feedback!
Amen to that
Wow.. there is so much for me to know!
So glad to know you picked us some useful inspiration!
Thank you. I learn so much from you.
I'm so glad you find our channel helpful, that's our goal!
Good evening OJReynolds,

Hello Rachel, thank you for the tips. I had learn by error a few of them. Better late than never. Here is tip for that you may know already. When you buy or already have furniture with scratches I love to use Old English Scratch Cover for dark woods, and permanent black Sharpie for deep scratches, you apply it and immediately run your finger over it, it works really well.
Good to know, thanks for sharing, Marina!
Good morning Miss Valentina,
What an enjoyable journey to be creating this home over the last eight years with your husband.

How very fun to be searching for all the perfect pieces to fit your new home! So glad these visits resonate with you and I appreciate your encouraging comments.

I hadn't considered that, and currently have the rest of the year planned out, but in the meantime you might enjoy our "Victorian Christmas Tea Party" video. Thanks for stopping by!
I was so inspired seeing the classic titles of your books and how you’ve styled them. We’re kindred spirits, as I have many of them as well.
Yay! Let me pause and grab a cup of coffee and enjoy your video to the fullest! I just love them all so very much and I’m so thankful you take the time to include us in your cottage home journey. You’re such an inspiration. ❤️❤️❤️
Good afternoon, KC!
I hope you enjoyed your coffee during our visit, I'm glad you came along! Thank you for being supportive and enthusiastic - it's encouraging to me. By the way, I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What questions, challenges, or tips would you have? I'd love to hear from you.🌹
@@StoneCottageHome Oh my goodness.
You are a delight, Rachel! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and style.
Good morning, Miss Ann!
Glad you enjoyed your visit. 🌹
Lovely , SO cozy. Would love to SEE a full house tour.
Thank you, Marita!
I'm considering a Christmas home tour - they're extra work!
oh my goodness this was wonderful!
Good afternoon, Miss Sharen!
A home 99% second hand sounds fabulous! What wonderful meaning & memories you must have. I'm glad you joined me in shopping and decorating and for sharing your thoughts. I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles - what advice/questions would you have? I'd love to hear your feedback!

Love your posts! I can't actually say my favorite you've chosen. I love so many of the same things! BUT, I was over the moon with your anniversary rug find & your Ottoman. I love the clippers & architectural designs. Your lighting choices are perfect along with your style. I'm learning sooooo much!!!
So glad you are enjoying your visits, Miss Debra!
I must agree, the ottoman has remained a favorite of mine too. I'm thrilled you are finding the videos helpful and informative ~ that's my goal! Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day.

Welcome to the Stone Cottage Home family, Miss Jackie! We are delighted to have you along! Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed Thanksgiving. 🍂 🍁
I would’ve loved that red post box front and telephone kiosk header ,You found lots of lovely items
Wouldn't those be amazing decor items?! Thanks for stopping by, Miss Sandra!
Good afternoon, Miss Nevie!
I'm glad you've enjoyed your visits here and find the content resonates with you. Your collections sound wonderful and uniquely personal. Thank you for sharing!
“But what you love” and it will surely work when you get it home.
Very true!
Fell hard for the items you purchased…especially the rug and dishes…you truly have that curated look in your home and the eye for it when you shop…thank you for taking the time to share all the tips and pictures that you used as examples…I know it must have been time consuming and your effort is most appreciated…❤
Hello, Nilsa!
I happy you enjoyed your visit, your kind comments and support are a blessing!
Thank you Rachel for your inspiration ❤️
Good morning Miss Tracey,
I'm so happy you found your visit inspirational! Thanks for dropping by. 🍂
I loved this video, even though my home is overflowing with thrift store finds, this video made me want to go out and look. I love thrifting and finding treasure that I have used in my home, old pieces are so much better than new ones. Thank you and I will look forward to the next time.
Good evening, Miss Marlene!
Yes, old pieces are the best! Glad you enjoyed your visit and appreciate you stopping by.
This was a delight to view.
What a clever, accomplished lady you are! You truly inspire me.
I do not have your savvy with interior design and appreciate your detailed advise.
Live spending time with you.
Cheers 😁
Glad you enjoyed your visit, Merryl, we appreciate your kind comments and support. Have a wonderful evening.
Your videos are so much fun! I thoroughly enjoy them. You have wonderful style.
Yay, Glad you are enjoying them, Miss Linda!
I love everything that you found especially the ship bookends
Thank you for stopping by to visit!
Good evening, Miss Susan!
It is nice to find the things you love and use them in your home. Your glass collection sounds beautiful!
Hi Rachel, you look adorable and stylish, very French, in that shirt and scarf. I can't get over all the wonderful things you find. I'm lucky to find one good thing, and oftentimes none, when I go thrifting in my area.
Good afternoon,
I"m glad you enjoyed your visit and found some unexpected outfit inspiration!
Blessings!
You guys found beautiful items at great prices! I totally agree that patience is key to finding what you like. 😊❤
Good afternoon, Miss Rosie!
Yes, patient always pays off. Thank you for dropping by and have a lovely weekend.🌹
@@StoneCottageHome My problem in mixing styles is making things look cohesive and purposeful and not hodge pudge- “college apartment”. Looking forward to your video!
I enjoyed your video. The Lord blessed you with the red and white transferware plates. I love those too. I have blue and white in my dining room with blue walls. I love the red and white too. Have a wonderful evening.
Good morning Miss Melinda,
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit, and yes, the Lord did have those plates there for me!
Good morning, Mom!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the content and delivery. And I'm so grateful for the cheerleaders in my life! Thank you!
You found beautiful things and have such talent for layering everything
I have the same blue and white Scottish plates.
Beautiful!
Good afternoon, Miss Kathleen!
I've enjoyed the Scottish plates, as sure you have. Both of them is displayed in our kitchen where they can be enjoyed every day. Thanks for visiting today!
Your Art is all just lovely.
Thank you!
We must be on the same wave length... I'm working on a video currently for choosing the right grey/green paint color!
What a sweet lady! You're almost to 10,000!
Yes, we are getting close ~ I never imagined we'd have so many wonderful subscribers!
Great video! You teach a lot, and it’s a pleas to see all that you show us here. I appreciate also that you don’t just choose old books that look good, you also pay attention to the content of the printed book. Also, great brass finds. They are often pricey!
Good morning, Miss Claire!
I'm glad you are finding inspiration and helpful information in your visits. We appreciate you stopping by!
This video was so helpful! Thank you for giving me the framework to not buy everything at the thrift store. I have found difficulty nailing down a style until recently and these tips will help me even further
Oh, wonderful! I'm so glad you found your visit helpful!
Lovely, very informative you are so knowledgeable ❤️
Good morning, Miss Doris!
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit, and appreciate you dropping by!
Hi, Miss Rosann!
Oh, the purple Old Britain Castle dishes sound gorgeous, and what a wonderful score on the whole service! Thank you for the tip about the lead.
By the way, I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What tips, or question would you have? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Love your video with styling tops and information. Thank you.
I'm glad you're enjoying your visits, Miss Diane!
AND, looking forward to hearing from you again❣
Hello Miss Lina!
Thanks for the great idea for backing a print with fabric remnants. Very creative! I'm glad you are enjoying your visits and find them inspiring.
I'm considering making a video on mixing design styles. What questions, challenges, or tips would you have! I'd love to hear your thoughts.🌹
@@StoneCottageHome Hi Rachel! Thank you for asking me about mixing design styles. My home is much like yours, I love English Cottage too! You have a great gift in spotting baskets, since I am from the mountains of Idaho, how about incorporating a touch of vintage wilderness using baskets and nature?
You are SUPER !,,
I absolutely love your channel! I struggle with hanging up at and photos. I feel like I just can't get it "right" on the wall. I feel very blessed because my little village has an amazing free room and free furniture barn at our dump. I get so many goodies for free!
Good evening Miss Mary,

This video was very impressive. You imparted knowledge on many subjects, lithographs, basket materials, furniture style, transferware. The orient express lamp-one of my favorite lamps was the inspired shade. Thank you, keep educating viewers about all these items.
Hello Miss Nancy!
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and found it to be helpful ~ that's the goal! Have a lovely weekend.
Love your book collection.
Thank you!
What a delightful lady. Best of luck with your channel😘
Some handy pictures for reference are good too. xx
Ah, yes the tape measure! I forgot to mention that... I also carry a small one with me when shopping. Thanks for stopping by.
Oh those are great old books! Great choice.
I pair it with my pink depression glass but I'm thinking of starting a green set to go with it 😊
Thank you again for another awesome episode, much love Liana xx
Hello Romantic Style,
The glass front bookcase is (I believe) called a lawyer's bookcase.
Good morning,
This is such a helpful comment!
Glad to know these tips will hold over time. Thanks for sharing!
