I think the reason I enjoy the mystery pattern videos is because I have learned so much from them. I was never taught to read a pattern, and these videos have improved my ability to do so by leaps and bounds. Also, learning to make (and feeling confident about) “executive decisions” to improve on the stability of a pattern. The fact that you show your trial and error thought process is incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for all the hard work you have put into these videos…watching them has improved my crochet skills enormously!

I agree! I recently followed my first pattern ever, and this channel gave me the confidence to know i could read the pattern. I've learned so much from these videos.
What I have learned sofar: 1. there is a different about pulling the string over or under 2. stuck single 3. backpump only 4. just try and figured it out! 😁 And I am an advanced chrocheter, so you never stop learning.

@@doninis1354I am a stacked single convert. For the first time ever, I am crocheting a sweater for an adult. I think Corinna’s channel has given me the confidence to do so as well as TLYarn. I’m so grateful for creators willing to share their talents and having the courage to put themselves out on the internet.
Once these are washed a couple times they lay a bit less stiff, however making one with a finer yarn is usually best. Back in the sixties, we wore these things everywhere. The brighter and more colorful they were the better we liked them.

Baxk in the 60's and early 70's, many girls had big hair, back-combed into beehive styles, so that would have been just the right size! Well done!
That's interesting. It makes a lot if sense in that context, and by that logic, modifying it for modern hairstyles is only natural. We revive retro fashions with a modern twist every new generation
Middle 50's had the beehives too. I was born in 1957 and that's the style my mom wore for 30 yrs❤
Deviations from original patterns are how new designs and ideas were made. You honor the spirit of these patterns by doing them at all! Do what you need to make them work for you. Keep up the good work and if people have a problem they can watch something else or do it themselves instead of giving you grief.
Couldn't have phrased it better, myself. Whether it's by the book or going rogue, we all should do what makes us happy in the end, and not waste energy trying to make everyone follow suit the exact same way. If we did that, there were be very little variety in life.

I think it's fine that you make occasional changes to the pattern. The pattern still emerges and you're experenced enough with crochet to know what is going to happen. I like watching the channel. Keep doing what you do. It's fun to watch.
in 1969 my mother made me a two piece lavendar and purple pants suit with bell bottoms; bell sleeves;and turtle neck-type, tied and scalloped neck. I wore it for picture day at school.

I've never been a fan of head scarves, but I think this is cute, it is so 60's.

I lived through the 60's and yes, that is the look. It is not too big.
I remember having seen many of these during my childhood. They were used primarily as a way of holding hair out of the face while working, but also to keep some of the dust from settling on the hair, as well. It was loose by design, so as to cover hair that was pulled back or up, to serve as a utilitarian accessory, a fun, creative alternative to the typical basic kerchief or scarf that was most commonly used for this same purpose. I really enjoyed the mystery! Well done! 😍🧕

I think this would make a cute bandana top! If you put two strings from the top of triangle to tie around neck and two to tie bottom around your back. It would be a cute summer top!
PS: As a child of the 1960’s myself, and can attest to the following because I owned a couple of these…keep going on the triangle until it is large enough for the front of a poncho, then make a second one. sew together across the long side but leave an opening for your head!
It's a kerchief! I think the "bigness" you see is just a factor of non-drapey yarn and the stiffer quality of so many single crochets. I love your concept of crocheting a mystery!
It’s a kerchief! They cover most of your hair!! Lighter weight yarns may work it better for you!! lol. I like it! Used to keep hair clean, while doing chores or gardening!!

❤ LONG COMMENT: You did great! I love the "turn into a purse/bag" idea! It would make a really nice reusable market shopping bag. I'm sure the ladies in the past didn't "follow patterns to the letter" either, making their own decisions and in their own way; from color choices to how they made the stitches. Crochet is about fun and creativity and you give that in your tutorials and mystery videos. And if I may, I would like to add my vote to the tally of don't give up the tutorials either. Even if I decide not to make them, I do learn from them: your beaded 1920's purse being the perfect example! I never knew how to do beaded crochet until I watched your tutorial, so thank you very much! 😊 I would like to also add advice of making sure you take time for the things you want to make--even if you don't video them (hint hint- finish that peacock beadspread you've been wanting to finish😘) Nothing is worse than feeling burnt out on doing something you love. So ***sigh*** maybe make videos less often? There is no crochet/TH-cam law that says "Thou SHALT post videos every week, or every few days--OR ELSE!!!" When I was growing up in the 60s these hair bandannas were popular my mom wore them alot it was a life saver for housewives running to the store without fixing their hair my mom wore them all over the years good for outdoors to corral short hair when u couldn't Pony tail it good memories of my mom wearing those she recently passed I love the good memories ❤
David’s wife speaking - I don’t remember crocheted bandanas but cloth ones that matched your dress or skirt The idea of using lighter weight yarn or even yarn that ppl use to make socks out of would be good. I grew up in california so maybe the yarn scarves were used in cold weather states instead of the tried and true winter that that messes up the hair?

I try and watch all the videos but can't always. I do love the mystery ones because it is neat to see how you interpret the patterns and tweak things to work out. It is also fun to try and guess what it is going to be as you are making it. I hope you don't stop doing your tutorials either because they are so informative. I have seen that tutorials don't get as much views because people only access it when they need it. I am constantly looking up tutorials on how to do stitches but not so much for huge projects, unless I am working on that particular project and have to keep referring back to tutorial. Thanks for all your work. You help bring humour and colour to a world on fire.

Also, here’s a hint for when your camera or lighting isn’t representing the colors accurately. If a color appears to be showing up too blue, for example, place it next to something even bluer. The contrast will “correct” the representation of the turquoise or blue-green yarn. Same with violet or peach or any other color - just put it next to something that is the color it looks too much like but isn’t, in reality. In color theory, this is called simultaneous contrast. It’s a very cool phenomenon.
Your channel, your rules. I for one like that you alter things to suit your experience. I have yet to work any pattern that I haven’t altered something especially the starting chain 3. You always give a good explanation of why you are slightly altering things & if someone isn’t happy with the alteration they can crochet their own with how the pattern was written. Most older patterns were open to interpretation anyway. I enjoy all your videos because you make me laugh, but I am especially fond of the mystery patterns 👏👏❤️❤️🇬🇧

I follow some good crochet sites on you tube, but I really enjoy yours, the fun in solving the mystery. Yep, even when working the ridge stitch I always do the end stitch through both loops, it really gives a neater edge. I like to do my own changes sometimes also.
Another of 60s & 70s patterns used worsted. In my opinion is it always looked too bulky & cheap. You did a good job! But one can always use the same pattern & adjust to a DK weight

I totally agree with you about working into both loops at ends of back loop rows. I'm currently working a lot of back loop rib but always work both at each end and the edge is so firm and neat and doesn't roll up. Absolutely recommend!

It turned out wonderful! I make something similar whenever I need a quick scrappy project, and the size yours ended up being is exactly how I like to make them :) Edit- I like to use bamboo yarn because they end up very floppy and drapey which looks so nice over the hair.
I just watched one of your older mystery crochets that you work with crochet thread (#30 maybe?) and this yarn and hook look so gigantic in comparison! They seem to be as big as the super bulky weight yarn and 9mm hook that I just finished a blanket in. Thanks for providing great videos to listen to while I work!

Gosh you brought back memories!!! I had a brown corduroy one with brown/purple paisley on the reverse. I'm sure I had more but that one stands out. Would wear to go motorcycle riding, I had long, straight hair. Tuck the point in back under the ties and wear it lower on the forehead.

When I do a color ful project I tape a peace of each color in the order down on to paper to have like a chaet sheet.
A bandana! Okay my deviation on that 1. work hdc and reduce the triangle by 1-3 rows 2. size up the hook ...to make it flowier, so the end comes further down ...

That pattern is from the 60's when cars didn't have airconditioning. You drove with the windows down and people wore those type hair things to try to preserve some sort of hair style! I know. I was there!

You guessed the reason for the size! Back then, many women would grocery shop with rollers in their hair, and would cover them up with a scarf. Plus, most young women and girls had very long hair. Think Woodstock.
