I made a vinyl braided covering for a hanger when I was a kid back in the fifties. Hangers back then were metal and when you put anything wet on it it would leave a rust stain on your garment. This is what daycare did for us kids to make presents for our parents.
Between wire hangers and old wooden hangers that might snag, I get why these were needed! Though some of those old wooden hangers, if laquered, last a lifetime! Mum still has some!
I couldn't type the entire time because I was laughing and shouting at my phone at you! Then I realized that you are younger than me, lol 😂 my mom made these all of the time to sell, they were extremely popular and sometimes they would attach little sachets with Lavender or other scents, made all the clothes and closets smell awesome, I had fun watching this one, lol 😂
So coincidental that you are making this! I was just thinking yesterday that I’m going to single crochet around some hangers, to keep my tank tops from sliding off! This is actually very cute!
When I was a kid my mom had a wire hanger with THE fugliest shade of pink sc'd around it that she kept her wedding dress on. She'd have me hand wash it once every summer with very little water and I hated doing it lol. I'm now 40yo, been crocheting for over half of that time and it only now occurred to me that this one particular hanger had been covered with sc's when I read your comment. I have no idea why my brain hadn't connected the dots before now and no idea why that dot being connected was so profound. 🤣
I've seen a lot of people talking about wire hangers but back in the 80s here (I live in Brazil) they were mostly made out of wood, and depending on the wood it could stain wet or humid clothes. Also, sometimes the wood had splinters/rough pieces that could catch on more delicate clothes like knit/crochet or fabrics like silk or organza. Oh, some could have the point of the nails poking through as well. Of course there were some polished wood, glazed with fancy stain and varnish, but those were for stuff like "dad's suit" 😂 kids would have the cheapest they could get. For those we had a few "fancy" ones that were so pretty. I loved them because they were still made out of wood but all covered in ribbon (kind like a mummy) or sometimes with some kind of patchwork/quilt like fabric pieces.
Oh! I hanger cover! Cool! I remember we used to use those all the time. They were great when you added padding under the crochet along the top to help round off the edge so you didn't get creases in the shoulders of your blouses. Remember shoulder pads in the late 80's early 90's? We used to use padded hangers so the shoulder pads would stay rounded too. So pretty. I gotta make one of those. Brings back memories.
It's adorable 😍 we were so fancy back in the 70's and 80's 😂😂 You could hang a sweater on this 🥰 I remember we would put 2 hangers together and wrap yarn or strips of nylon fabric around them, they were very strong for hanging a coat on 🥰
Hangers back in 1980's were wire and way smaller.. I'd either add another row or granny around the hanger.. we made these all the time and either hung clothes or deco for bed rooms..♥️😂🤷♥️
Hello Corrina, when you finished the second round of yellow, I thought it looked like a crocheted evil eye. And then as the outer rounds. Were added on and it started to curl up a bit. I thought it might be a serving dish cover ? Well I was wrong, but it turned out cute your hanger cover. Looking forward to the next video Good job. 👍
I wonder why these are no longer made anymore? What a brilliant way to keep your clothes from sliding off. Probably much less cost wise than the expensive no-slip hangers too! Great job! ❤
These would be awesome for holding my sweaters and cardigans on without maneuvering the little hook on the inside of the hanger carefully through the stitches. :)
That was fun! I had a pet sitting job this weekend and never had time to get to really watch and enjoy but I did this morning! I like this one. There are a few articles of clothing I have that slip off my hangers. What a fun way to stop the slip! Thanks for joy in my morning, Corinna! PS... Did you see or hear about what happened to Crystal at Bag O Day Crochet at her Million Subscriber party and give a way? Girl, I was watching and even though she came back on that night to let us know she and her fam were okay, I couldn't sleep. I just can't believe how awful that must have been for her and her fam and how terrible it could have been! That person needs to be prosecuted and put away, for a long time, for "swatting" that family. All 6 of her dogs were out. What if one had snarled or something at one of the cops??? Ugh! That alone would have devastated her! I will never understand ppl who don't have anything better to do than to cause that kind of pain to others. It is just sad!!!
Was absolutely convinced this would end up being a tea cozy until it got to the fourth color! This was so much fun to watch. But actually, now I'm wondering. Has there been a tea cozy video? I love them so much. If not, please consider adding one to your mystery pile. We'll all get a kick out of it! They're so adorable.
Looking at the centre,i think it would have looked cool to put the hook of the hanger through the hole and secure it that way Now i wish i had a closet so i can do hanger covers (i have a lily sugar & cream booklet with a pattern for a bunch of vanity things that ive been longing to make but cant yet, I live with my parents and dont have my own bathroom 😅)
It looks like a lemon cut in half so far if you were using yellow. It's pretty, I like it I'm guessing a hammock for fruit I was way off but ooh I love it. I need to do this on some of my hangers. Thank you!!
I love this, I have so many things that slip off the hangers I'm going to make a dozen of these. It was a blast watching you as always. I love all your video's. Even rides in the car. Such a nice sweet friend to have. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever done a how to crochet video. Im self taught left handed and have learned so many things but some stuff still floors me.❤
My father-in-law's second wife (from Holland) crocheted hanger covers for me in the 80s, but they weren't as fancy as this. They are great if you have a silky shirt. It won't slip on the yarn.
Heard 80s and, as I watched this play out, I thought of all the crocheted covers my parents and grandparents had for casserole dishes or appliances. Even the tissue box had a cover! Lol. I thought this was going to be a casserole dish cover.
Speaking of tissue box covers, I just finished doing one last week and it's definitely a practice in maintaining consistent tension (which I have a problem with). It still sags a little down one side if you look close enough lol.
Pretty cool ... I was guessing toilet seat lid cover - don't laugh .. I've got teenage trauma issues🤣Imagine trying to be an uber cool funky 19 yr old in the 80"s and bringing your much older new boyfriend round to meet the parents, only to discover that mother darling has very proudly put one of those drrrreadful knitted toilet seat covers on the guest toilet. I nearly died !! And He did eventually marry me ... 10 yrs later ... 😂😂🤣🤣
I had no idea coat hanger covers were a thing. Wow. I was also thinking the eye of Sauron. XD Or a bag or maybe a hat with ear covers. It's just way too pretty in my opinion to be sitting hidden away in a closet where nobody can see it. Actually, I'm certain that by removing those chains between the Van Dyke clusters you could easily make that bag or hat. :)
You suggested larger hook for the “modern” hanger size…. I’m thinking smaller hook for smaller kids hangers…. Ohhhh a princess closet could have a unique presentation to its display of clothes. Loved and appreciated this one… thank you ma’am and great pick Justin. With few modifications to lay flat, this could easily be the center of Eye of Soran blanket center 🤔🤔🤔
I had no idea! What a great project...I have a few clothes hangers like that I could pretty up with some leftover yarns.. hmmmmm next project for me after finishing a massive hexagon cardigan!
That came out so nice and it's really pretty! I remember taking yarn and just wrapping/typing it around wire hangers back in the 60's. Not very attractive like the one you made!
The Eye of Suron !!! Love it !! Lol that was a good one !! But ya so cool , I remember seeing these but forgot all about them 😮😊 gonna make some of these in so many cool colors !! Thanks Justin we do like this one for sure !! Thank You Corinna for another great video 📸 😁 !! ❤ It !!
This is really a great pattern and a good one for beginners and first time to crochet. I would experiment with the size by adding another row of pattern or adding a row of single or double stitch for joining at the top of the hanger.
Kept thing it was a casserole sling like to carry it. Lol then when I saw the picture, I thought you would put rhe top of the hanger thru the circle hole. Boy I was out in left field lol 😂 it is cute remember my grandmother had some on her hangers but not with the tassel.
I would not have guessed that either. But interesting. Give me more iedeas already, like a pers or a cushin in that shape. Thank you for growing out ouer horizon.
That's pretty cool. I was wondering though, why can't you put the hook of the hanger thru the hole (that was made from the 1st round) of the crochet project and the other end of the project that you put on the top and sewed together, see that on the bottom of the hanger? And you could still put the tassels on the bottom. Just thinking of ideas for our hangers now, since they are probably bigger
Ok I’ve been watching you for awhile I love your channel! But I have to ask what the clicking noise is in the background! At first thought was a dog running around, then a fireplace with crackling logs. Or maybe a Typewriter! Curiosity Curiosity!! Lol My Auntie Marie made me some of these all different patterns! I’m glad I can now make some too! Thank you!
“The eye of Sauron!” 😂🤣😂🤣

That's a great idea! Thanks. I'm going to try this for my closet
When my mom passed I gave away dozens of these. Some of them used to hang in my grandmother’s closet! There was a lot of yarn work goin on!
Hangers were a different size, btw.
Hearing the tapping of a typewriter in the background sounds so vintage 😂
Yes, I hear an old time typewritter in the background too. What is that?
@@andstajacvaris1918maybe she has a writer in the house?! I hear it in every video.
I think it's her a/c, if I remember right :)
I believe it is her daughter doing some typing. Reminds me of high school typing class, LOL!
I have a keyboard for my computer that is very loud. I love the feel and sound of it and absolutely hate soft touch quiet keyboards
So coincidental that you are making this! I was just thinking yesterday that I’m going to single crochet around some hangers, to keep my tank tops from sliding off!
This is actually very cute!
Now you can make even prettier hanger covers that do that!

Oh! I thought it was going to be a casserole cozy.
Fun surprise! For those of us on a limited budget, they will make nice gifts for friends and families.
I thought it was a casserole dish holder😂. I had no idea😊

This is such a great stashbuster of a pattern! And useful to boot, I do have some mighty slipper shirts...
Would it work if you put the top of the hanger through the center hole instead?
OMG! Memories, I maded this in High school home ed class. Wow!
Hello Corrina, when you finished the second round of yellow, I thought it looked like a crocheted evil eye. And then as the outer rounds. Were added on and it started to curl up a bit. The Cosmic scarf pattern on the yellow is my ABSOLUTE favorite pattern. Very easy
I thought '😈👁' too!!? I'd poke the hanger hook in the center, fold over, crochet together along bottom. Straight edge. Peace.
I was thinking that if you started with black it would look like an eye……my macabre mind❤❤❤❤
Very Cool! I have never seen anything like this before, it would be really cool to store/hang stitch markers and progress keepers.. 😊
I definitely thought it was going to be a casserole dish cozy/carrying tote. Hanger cover wasn't on my bingo card.
I was guessing it would be a toilet tank cover, but this is cute!
That's a very strange idea. 😁 It'd be a pain to keep clean, though lol.
I wonder why these are no longer made anymore? What a brilliant way to keep your clothes from sliding off. Probably much less cost wise than the expensive no-slip hangers too! Great job! ❤

My grandmother made a set of 4 for all the grandchildren they were a lot nicer than the wire hangers
I was thinking these would be great for wire hangers.
A real retro vibe with these! Thank you, C.! Love you lots, and Threadhead hugs!
They are cute, and would be handy for the combination slippery hanger & slippery clothes!
Looking at the centre,i think it would have looked cool to put the hook of the hanger through the hole and secure it that way

I'm guessing a hammock for fruit
I was way off but ooh I love it. I need to do this on some of my hangers. Thank you!!
Fun item to knit for the household hat loves EVERYTHING crocheted! Lol

My grandmother made these for many years. I never saw a hanger in her house without a cover. This was in the 70s.
Just love the mystery of each pattern. It's hard not to read the comments early so we can keep guessing along with you. Great videos, thank you.
I loved this , so much fun to have an item i could not even begin to guess lol .
I thought it was going to be a slipper! Lol! 😅😂🤣 But ehen it remained being flat for so long, I knew I was wrong!, ended up really cute! ♥️
Love how it turned out. I like the way you teach
Its a crochet third eye pattern I love it

I love hanger covers...no droopy shoulders on garments!!!!
I thought for sure that this was going to be a round casserole hot dish carrier/protector.
Before the reveal my guess is.....a gravy boat cozy? 🙃
I think I may need a couple of those in my life. Very cool. Kudos to Justin!! 🖤🖤
These are ADORABLE I need one for every hanger
Those are so adorable. I guess everyone is getting one for birthday presents. Thank you, Corrina!!!❤❤
I thought this was a dish holder or baby's hat 😂 never would have guessed!

😂😂😂 but tell me why I want to crochet one of those things for my toilet…
@@thriftycharmscrochet 🤣😂 Me toooo 🤣😂 Because its boho vintage (which makes it really cool) ???

VERY cute project!! These would make excellent items to sell in a craft show booth!❤
Well done Justin. That was a good mystery. Love the pattern too.
Yep, now i need to make some! 😃
I had no idea either what it was going to be, what a fun surprise! Turned out cute!

I love these!! May need to make some for myself!! Thanks so much for sharing!!❤
This is adorable, I want to make some
I am so glad it didn't turn out to be some eye thing. I was skeptical there for a bit. Very cute!
That is adorable! Great job, thank you
The Eye of Suron !!! Love it !! Lol that was a good one !! But ya so cool , I remember seeing these but forgot all about them 😮😊 gonna make some of these in so many cool colors !! Thanks Justin we do like this one for sure !! Thank You Corinna for another great video 📸 😁 !! ❤ It !!

I was clueless as to what you were making too.
Adorable, it is a great gift to give for mothers day ❤️
a great idea for using up little bits of yarn, so cute
How cool! Love the extra detail of the tassel. 🦋
You did great! I almost said it was a fruit bowl!! 🤣
This is a fun one. Many possibilities!
This is so cool! Thanks Corinna! 💘
I would have never guessed! As usual, you did such a good job!
Looks like the old metal hangers. Love this.
I love that you do the stacked singles, I do that also and it just looks so much better.
I like this idea and look. Going to try this next project. It does give the object a cleaner look. Thanks
I was married in 88. It's so hard to think of m6self as vintage / retro! 😂
LOL I read "Tapes try" too! I was.. whaaa.. then you said "tapestry'.. and I was like.. doh..
I would not have guessed that either. But interesting. Give me more iedeas already, like a pers or a cushin in that shape. Thank you for growing out ouer horizon.
Love it!
awesome... i love it
Love it ❤❤❤❤
Very cute!
Am I dreaming or would it make so much more sense to poke the hanger hook through the center hole and stitch alond the bottom of the hanger?
Who needs the tassel anyways?
Single crochet gives more room or maybe put thru the top first. Maybe.
So cute! I'm making this one. 💗
Great Little Gifts for Friends ♥
I remember these! We're dating ourselves 😂❤
How cool and different!
Cool beans! ❤😊
Ok I’ve been watching you for awhile I love your channel! But I have to ask what the clicking noise is in the background! Me too! 😅
Maybe her dryer
I know it’s Alice who’s typing. I’ve made a whole narrative about her and why she types. I wonder if there will be a response.
It's my central ac duct, something loose in it and when air rushes past it , it makes that tapping, clicking typing sound
Mystery solved. I was wondering too, but who does working on a typewriter nowadays?
Cute!
That had me totally stumped.
Looks like same doily plate cover pattern, but mine is with much tinier hooka and single #30 thread...lol
What a clever idea.
Never saw one😊 great job!
Imagine doing this but in a more diamond shape and making a blanket!
My mom has a few of those hangers! She can’t remember where or when she received them!
Hers are on metal hangers.
Definitely not the right size for the plastic ones, but those were awesome for the metal hangers that used to be all you had.
So cute!!
