I find it kinda sad that she has worked so hard to assimilate to the korean culture, learning the language, eating the food, etc. but there does not seem to be any effort on her husband and his family to be open and learn her culture so she can feel a bit at home. It's like the expectation is all for her to fully change to fit in to them.

Unfortunately, Philippinos are very prejudiced in Korea because they are seen as a poorer country and the help. It is quite sad, tbh, because Philippino people are some of the most talented, beautiful, kind, fun, funny, hard working people I have ever met. And I am an Albanian living in Canada lol.

that’s what I thought. I’m a mixed race kid and my mum is southeast asian too but the dynamic is different. my mum only cooks cambodian, thai or chinese food 😂 my dad gets sick of it sometimes bc that’s all he gets and he didn’t grow up on it but he allows her to do southeast asian stuff without question. my mum speaks english to him and sometimes khmer (cambodian) to me. must admit, I’ve lost the ability to speak it but I can at least understand a lot.
but this in general just seems very odd... apparently one kid is actually hers? but when will they learn her language? they are missing out on learning about their own heritage. I bet she will face repercussions and seriously miss her own family. this man gives me the impression that he doesn’t ever go back to the Philippines for a holiday or something at least too.
and just a little extra fact I should let you know, korean and chinese men these days are known to marry girls from SEA because they are “easier”. but dw, they’ll find out the truth one day once their feistiness comes into action. 💀

We only see short video clips from their life, you don’t know if she doesn’t do anything at all. My own mother liked taking care of me and my sibling a lot up until 12 years old, and yet we both grew up to be able to do stuff on our own and not complain much. Unless you see the daughter being disrespectful and whining for stuff, don’t judge that she’ll turn out bad just cause her mom wants to do more for her than other normal kids.

Not really entitled but maybe could lack life skills but you gotta give them leeway because the step-parent is probably trying to establish a relationship with the kids and it happened when they are not babies anymore. We can't judge them with this vid alone. But it's best if the kids can do tasks at home for their own brain development.

The westerners in the comments saying there’s abuse or they’re nervous the koreans will mistreat her give me very “woke savior complex” vibes as what they’re essentially saying is “koreans are abusive to other asians and only see dils as slaves” when that’s not the dynamic going on here. First off, the mother-in-law cooks instead of leaving all the cooking of unfamiliar foods to the dil, second the husband gets her medicine ready so he’s clearly not emotionally detached. The father in law praises her singing and instead of pressuring her for success he tells her it’s ok to not get first place, she’s still a good singer. She complains, she fools around, she smacks her husbands head with a beecatching net for fun. It’s about perspective. Looking at it from a good perspective makes the family seem very supportive despite her “unconventional” job choice of a singer and housewife, but tinted-glasses and a “we in the west are so much better” mentality only focuses on the things the family can improve on. It’s so annoying to me, especially because if you see the other parts you can tell the husband and children are her biggest fans and supporters. It’s good that we all want her to succeed, pursue her dreams, and be safe and happy, but why is it always tinted by the argument that the “koreans are treating her like a maid” when it just looks like she’s willingly integrating herself as family by helping them just like they help her?

The west thinks the earth revolves around their ideologies lol. Asians have a different way of showing affection and isn't often openly displayed. They be judging everyone when their country is a mess and filled with all the problems that they point out in other countries. The kind of people who never clean their own yard but have time to complain about their neighbor's yard 😂

Many are literally filipinos that are hoping that it’s not abuse. There’s a known fact that many (not all) East Asians looking down on South Asians. So no, not really just random westerners with a savior complex but more of many SEA being concern because we know what goes on behind closed doors in Asia.

Not generalizing all koreans, and this is only a small part of this reality show subject’s life, but reading the content creator comment that he’s uncomfortable with this episode, the whole “woke savior complex” thing probably has more basis here than we’d like to admit.

Until she became an English teacher in korea. Her in-laws and husband didn't want her to have a job and wants her to just stay at home because she's a 'woman'. They didn't want her to earn her own money but she did anyways. And she repeatedly made them see that she's not someone they can push around.. I'm so happy for her.
