Casey Edwards wasn't allowed to use distorted electric guitars by Capcom for the song except in the choruses; the final 3 minutes he decided just to use them anyway as Vergil's character meant a lot to him as well as he wanted the end to be powerful as it might be his last time composing for DMC, he had a full song by that point and if Capcom didn't like the end they could just cut it but they ended up loving it.
@@cavc1979What stupid decisions other than microtransactions in Street Fighter 6 and Devil May Cry: Peak Of Combat’s existence? Everything else has been pretty good.
@10:50 The final verse is my "most replayed" part In this whole song he says "BURY THE LIGHT" once on the final verse......the final verse summaries VERGIL so well
Fun fact that last verse has almost identical chord progressions to the "Embrace the darkness that's within me" part of Devil Trigger Vergil "Bury the light deep within" Nero "Embrace the darkness that's within me" Like father like son Casey Edwards is such an amazing artist
That last set of lines finishing with in the ocean all alone hit me hard, both in the context of the song and character of vergil. Of course the production, mix, mastering, even someone unfamiliar like me can still be in awe.
this song got me into rock music and this is the only piece of media that’s made me cry ever in my life at the we’re burning chaos in the wind. spectacular
For me it was "cast aside there's no going home" i loved the song so much as it helped me during a rough time. And ironic enough, it was a pretty bad feud between me and my brother. It got so bad i had actually wished him to die. We fought real hard one day, and tgat was when my dad knew he was never going to repair his sons's relationship. I really identified with Dante and Vergil, being brothers that hate eachother and all. Now, he and i have gone our separate ways and no longer a part of eachothers lives. I remember when he was my best bud, then he ended up being a complete bastard. As you can probably guess, this context makes it pretty clear i have a strong emotional attatchment to it.
I’ve heard this song, in its entirety, too many times to count, and will hear it again, still. I’ve heard this just as a storm started some time ago, fit all too damn well. Sheer motivation in sound.
When the song is so good, you stop pausing it and just let it ride! 🤣 Not only does this song speak for Vergil, but it speaks on a personal level for a lot of people who dealt with pain and strive to be stronger. Glad you enjoyed it~
I just love how genuine your reactions are. And I absolutely love this song. That part at 11:12 just had me jamming out with you, tears in my eyes, laughing because it's just so beautiful.
This tune shall go down in history as one of the greatest of all time, if not, *THE* greatest... and when you look at Vergil's history, not only does it hit hard, but also hits different.... Victor Borba and Casey Edwards did a damn impressive job.
I remember when my friend introduced me to this song. I have never clicked with a song so fast. I LOVE this song so much it’s easily a top ten across the board, top five even
Even if you know absolutely nothing about DMC, this track is a tour de force. When you learn about Vergil, however, it becomes biographical. It's more than just a battle theme; it's an anthem. It's a poem covering his life: his trauma, his rage, his dark choices, his solitude and all the bodies he's left in his wake...and eventually a hint of hope. But the ending reminds you that, redemption or no, you're still talking about a badass son of Sparda who is NOT to be trifled with. Casey and Victor shook the WORLD with this track and they both deserve every word of acclaim they get. This song is probably half the reason DMC5 received such praise.
i would not say its half the reason given that Vergil wasn't even playable for like a year after the game came out and it was already one of the best action games ever made. its just a fucking amazing game. this track adds and probably broadened the appeal but its not singlehandedly what made the game or anything
@@TheLegendaryZed I respectfully disagree, go and look up awondaddy's I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROACHING video, that meme format probably got a lot of people to look into DMC5. something like 12m views iirc
idk i think that being a highly anticipated sequel to a franchise with a powerful pedigree that was immediately confirmed upon release to be the peak of its genre and series probably has more to do with the success of the game than meme videos that came out alongside the special edition of the game 18 months after the initial release. the majority of copies of the game sold aren't even special edition and were sold before SE, Vergil, or his theme were even in the game.
This song is epic and all, Casey Edward is a boss, but cmon now, DMCV is an amazing game. Let’s not diminish the work of the devs behind the game itself just because you like the music.
I absolutely love this song, not only for how badass it sounds but for how well it represents the character of Vergil. The bridge part in the 3rd act of the song represents his human side and demon side. The lower, more darker voice at the beginning represents the character "V" who is a manifestation of his human side and all of the mistakes he made in the past. Than there's the more angelic and somber part of the bridge which represents "urizen" the manifestion of his demon side, the trauma he endured and his endless search for power. While the urizen we meet in the game is a giant power hungry demon, in the dmc 5 manga "Visions of V" we learn that inside urizen is a manifastation of the trauma Vergil endured as a child when under the command of the demon king his house got burned down, his mother was murdered and he under the impression that he was abandoned by his family was at the brink of death. Eventually through Urizen Vergil became the very same thing that was responsible for all of his trauma in the first place. Now the bridge represents the conflict between his two sides which eventually leads to them reconnecting and Vergil returning in the final chorus. This is just the bridge section before the final chorus. I'm sorry if I went on a nerdy rant but knowing all of the lore behind the character makes me love the song so much more. Also the final chorus is a mirror to his son's song "devil trigger" with "Bury the light deep within. Cast aside there's no coming home. We're burning chaos in the wind. Drifting in the ocean all alone" mirroring "Embrace the darkness that's within me. No hiding in the shadows anymore. When this wickedness consumes me. Nothing can save you and there's no way out." Basically Vergil's legacy is a part of his son Nero. Sorry again for going on a rant but I just love this masterpiece of a song lol. Btw I absolutely love your reactions.
LOVE this reaction. You can just see the emotion that this masterpiece of a song can provoke so well in his face. I remember when I first heard this song it had me in tears!
This is a masterpiece Dave so happy you watched this. Definitely look at the boss music for metal gear rising revengeance for similar music. Personal favorites are Red Sun, Stains of Time, and The Only Thing I know for Real
@Omid Sarwar yeah it seems like it had an oversaturation about a year or so ago in popularity, but the soundtrack has so much merit to it and it personally is one of my favorite video games osts
The violins definitely give a since of elitism that is present in Vergil, but also elude to the sorrow he feels, especially at the beginning of the song. If you're up for doing more OSTs, I would like to suggest Take Control and My Dark Disquiet by Poets of the Fall, both of which appear in Control. Those songs are insane!

Yo bro your reaction is cool but there is 2 lines has meaning "Two souls, Once Lost and they remember" is About Dante and Vergil's Childhood and "Fading, I've come to take whats mine" is Vergil Takes Nero's arm
One thing that i kind of thought about, is how the discordant violins surrounding the main starting progression almost feels like an audio representation of Vergil's "Million Judgement Cut" move XD
