If you don't have time to watch the entire video its essentially 25 mins of creepy Rudy going: " GHAAAAAALEEEE LOOK AT THAT ART! NEVER SEE THAT ANYMORE..."
In 10 years from now the only characters Wotc will be able to print without offending themselves are gonna be slimes, and not even the cool colored ones, they could be mistaken as racist propaganda! Just plain old color-neutral and gender-neutral slimes on every single cards!
All I will say is that if you take a look at not only the artwork of the cards but also the themes of the new sets, you will find a world that is missing something. I'm not saying that Wizards or Hasbro has gone necessarily PC (though, with the way some of their employees act on social media, it is definitely seen that way), but in all honesty, things back in the "hay-day" of Magic like times of Fifth Dawn weren't carefully crafted or planned to fit an idea; they were making cards that did stuff and looked cool, which was part of the big pull of Magic. Nowadays, you may have one card that does what a multitude of cards did in the past and it makes players not want to go out of the status quo to build their decks and collect like sets in the Mirrodin block or even before that caused the player base to think about. It's painful to watch the entity that so many people love become bland because they have to match the status quo, and if they don't, then their company loses out, though many will find that loyal player-bases will stay strong and will bring back those that left if they take risks, which Wizards hasn't done in literal years.
Outside is raining. I am alone in a foreign country, and 15 minutes later is going to be my birthday. I have a glass of wishkey, and a Rudy's video that lasts 25 mins. Simply perfect.
Future Rudy 10 years from now opening Hours of Devastation: "Look at that! They don't make them like that anymore. Look at that artwork! So much value"
I like seeing these old cards. It seems the art fits well together. Heavy fantasy influence. Reminds me of the aesthetic from movies like Krull. Ah, and we're up to 0.07%. A whole 1% is in sight. Soon...soon.
Thanks for the information. You have got me getting packs now (I'm a sealed collector by nature). I'm thinking of getting some packs from this set soon.
Loved fifth dawn. That set was my start into MTG. Like rudy said it was the long game, no speed play. Loved it since i am still not a fast player which i apologize to people i play against constantly for. Regardless it was beautiful set. Eternal witmess is favorite card easily.
@jvalex18 not at all. Before modern era, all sets were either extremely overpowered (urza block) or multiple times weaker than the weakest modern sets (mercadian masks). Nothing in between.
Great box opening, i love seeing the old artwork and details and it makes me sad i joined magic so late. This makes me want to go out and buy a box but holy crap! Also, i went out and subed to Magic Ronin immediately.
First off, thanks for the excellent and floppiest content on BetaTube. Hardly play any mtg but started playing when fourth edition came out from the print so lot of the videos bring good memories from sitting in the libraries, playing mtg and annoying the heck out of other customers due to almost keeping it silent. But why writing. I watch your videos during evening and morning, and for some odd reason. If still in bed, I bloody hell fall asleep (possibly again). No other youtube channel nor person has the same effect. And I bloody hell watch QI XL where Stephen Fry is blabbing all the time. So kind of thank you for this also.
I remember when EE (Engineered Explosives) was $8 in Standard. When they rotated out and were seeing play in 1.5 (Legacy) I picked up a few sets. Dumped a set for $35 each. Felt pretty good. Glad I still have another set
Every time I see a MYR i think of MOUSERS from TMNT! no IRON WORKS! think of it today, you can in the Battlebond set, there is a few Mirrodin, Fifth Dawn, and Darksteel reprints. Never thought Genesis Chamber, Land Tax, Impulse, or Chain Lightning would be reprinted. Some haven't been printed in over 10 year but the price of the Battlebond copy is so cheap. For instance, Diabloic Intent 10 bucks Planescape, 4.50 Battlebond. Has only been printed TWICE!
I'd not say the artwork is more detailed per se. However, the lines and details are clear and you actually can see what the art is supposed to be on that small frame (you can even see the brush strokes). Today's art is so full of soft edges and very fine details (digital or not) to give more depth, but it is all lost in the small frame of the card. It looks fine on a bigger frame. Soft edges is on vogue in art to give more realism, but again it makes the art fuzzy and looks like just a bunch of colors. Today's art direction doesn't help much as well. It makes every art use the same color scheme (not to touch on making the art more palatable to the general public) which makes the fuzzy feel worse.
Unfortunately I quit magic right before 8th edition and Mirrodin block because I thought those sets looked terrible with the new frames, that definitely wouldn't last, made me want to puke.
fifth dawn was the edition which paid for my masters degree, beta investments was the channel which made me cut loose my guilt for selling my favorite cards
If one is a patreon, and throws money at Rudy to open a box, do you still have to be a US resident to get the cards shipped? (What if I threw in the extra required for international shipping?).
Gotta say, it HURTS when 2 of the 6 sets I collected most are the worst of the worst jokes of magic all time and the others are severally low on power. Yay I have multiple sets of Fallen Empires and Homelands. Lol
If you don't have time to watch the entire video its essentially 25 mins of creepy Rudy going: " GHAAAAAALEEEE LOOK AT THAT ART! NEVER SEE THAT ANYMORE..."
You forgot about those "HOLY SMOKES AN ALMOST NAKED WOMAN ON A CARD!! WHO APPROVED THAT?!?".
That's every box opening video of Rudy's....
And that's what makes em gud
Just saw that 5th dawn. "that would never be approved in 2018".
Whats really funny is as i was reading this comment, thats exactly what he said. Lol
Future Rudy 10 years from now opening Core 19:
"Look at that! They don't make them like that anymore. Look at that artwork! So much value"
*opens $150 worth of cards in $450 box* "THE VALUE IN THIS SET IS OUT OF CONTROL! OH MY GOD! ANOTHER ($2) MYTHIC!! OH MY GOD"
Must be one heck of a voice acting class that Rudy took. He can’t really be that excited about these sets if he doesn’t keep these newer cards.
In 10 years from now the only characters Wotc will be able to print without offending themselves are gonna be slimes, and not even the cool colored ones, they could be mistaken as racist propaganda! Just plain old color-neutral and gender-neutral slimes on every single cards!

5 years now.
Hey Rudy, thanks for the shout out! Just got the cards in the mail today and they were some awesome pulls!
Outside is raining. I am alone in a foreign country, and 15 minutes later is going to be my birthday. I have a glass of wishkey, and a Rudy's video that lasts 25 mins. Simply perfect.
Hope u r still doing well
Happy birthday
Recently pulled the craziest pack out of this set. Steelshaper's Gift, KCI, and Crucible all in one pack
Now I remember why I was so drawn to Magic. Such great art! I started a few expansions before Fifth Dawn
Future Rudy 10 years from now opening Hours of Devastation: "Look at that! They don't make them like that anymore. Look at that artwork! So much value"
This was the set that got me into magic.
Same for me, I thought I was so cool getting those expert level packs lol
I like seeing these old cards. It seems the art fits well together. Heavy fantasy influence. Reminds me of the aesthetic from movies like Krull. Ah, and we're up to 0.07%. A whole 1% is in sight. Soon...soon.
As a commander player, I love this set. I think it’s really tasteful. Then I remember playing standard. *shivers*
ill kill your arbound rava-
I'll aethervial in a second creature, sac the ravager and smack you for 12
film skip shenanigans at 22:41 when foil serum visions is replaced with another
actually if you watch his other videos.. he talks about his camera doing jumps around the 23 min mark. he even pauses in some videos when it does it.
I've never seen that in any of his videos that was odd
Mystical Glimmer i think it was sarcasm lol
I did notice every one with serum visions had a wayfareres bauble before or after and seemed odd.
@@adventureswithlightbulb i opened a box back in 04 its how the sheets were printed back then, much easier to predict
Thanks for the information. You have got me getting packs now (I'm a sealed collector by nature). I'm thinking of getting some packs from this set soon.
Rudy I don’t care how long the videos are I’m gonna watch them anyway.
Anyone remember Doorway to Nothingness? That was a fun and janky card from fifth dawn even if it's not worth much.
yes! my favorite casual deck was a b/w door deck with artifact lands, emissaries, and life gain to gonzo the fuck outta people
Ramos, dragon engine approves
@@johannpohland2826 oh, I totally threw it in my 2017 dragons pre-con. Lol! It's so much fun when it goes off.
That card won me a game after a board stall. Opponent had Pariah Shield on a Phytohydra. You've never seen so much salt!
Yes. 5 color dragons is where my doors are hangin in too. I love politics :-D
Thanks Chad and Rudy for the box opening!!! :::=^)
dude i love fifth down so nostalgic. i came back briefly from vintage area to this set.
Loved fifth dawn. That set was my start into MTG. Like rudy said it was the long game, no speed play. Loved it since i am still not a fast player which i apologize to people i play against constantly for. Regardless it was beautiful set. Eternal witmess is favorite card easily.
a set without mythics feels so much better. Do we really need to have them?
Nah man, less gambling, less $$$, players would reasonably often get good cards, we cant allow that
Amen, just another money scheme and sign of power creep.
@jvalex18 not at all. Before modern era, all sets were either extremely overpowered (urza block) or multiple times weaker than the weakest modern sets (mercadian masks). Nothing in between.
"Life is too short to not appreciate this stuff" well said; this is why I watch your channel!
The mirrodin block is one of the and will be the coolest!
this has got to be the best artwork ive seen on magic cards
Every Rudy video is 50% TH-cam style reactions, 40% old man nostalgia, and 10% actual magic cards.
Great box opening, i love seeing the old artwork and details and it makes me sad i joined magic so late. This makes me want to go out and buy a box but holy crap! Also, i went out and subed to Magic Ronin immediately.
God, the art back then really was killer.
Easily one of my favourite sets. Still remember opening a foil crucible of worlds at my LGS. Still have that card to this day
omg you finally open my favorite set
First off, thanks for the excellent and floppiest content on BetaTube. "its like hit after hit" after he opens a 50cent rare
Thanks, CHAD!
SO 5TH DAWN IS PART OF ORIGNIAL MIRRODIN? i started with SCARS OF MIRRODIN, and love plane of mirrodin/new phyrexia.
Love your videos, i love collecting magic dam. Canadian prices are whack Rudy!!
love to see the "old" packs, still d like to see one more ravnicacracking.
I remember when EE (Engineered Explosives) was $8 in Standard. When they rotated out and were seeing play in 1.5 (Legacy) I picked up a few sets. Dumped a set for $35 each. Felt pretty good. Glad I still have another set
Old Magic art > New Magic art
s/o to Chad for making this very wholesome video possible. Legitimately happy Rudy is great.
Most of older card art....rudy: OMG THIS ART AND BEWBSSSSSSSSS

Can someone please buy some Lorwyn/Morningtide or Eventide/Shadowmoor :O?
What a box. That was my first real set. I used to buy fat packs as a kid just so I could read the books
Do people press cards like comic books? And dry clean too? Are there restored color touched cards?
Holy Shit that Lose Hope foil looked fucking amazing!
Those commons though... Trinket Mage, Serum Visions, Spark Elemental, Cranial Plating, Pentad Prism...
I loved the first mirrodin set, fitfth dawn was actually the first set I collected
Rudy really gets into some of this art... I'd be afraid to handle Rudy's collection from middle school.
Its interesting that fifth dawn cards the mana symbols in the text box don’t have any color on their printing.
Nice, I like this "portal to the past" type videos to see old times. I miss the 93~200X artworks
I enjoyed your opening today.
The video was good too.
Ba-boom-tshhh.
40 minutes before my next class, i know what i’m doing
giggity
Really enjoyed this opening, the cards are just so beautiful.
Thanks Chad!
why did he stop? Wasnt there packs left?
Such a beautiful set. Please take me back
Yes, fifth dawn! My first box opening many years ago

back-to-back Terese Nielsen uncommons...that's a dream booster right there
FUCK THIS WAS MY FAVOURITE SET GROWING UP AND ALSO WHEN ALL MY FRIENDS LEFT MAGIC
My very first set that i started playing with. I still mourn about the day i selled all my 5 dawn collection for rent-money.
The red beacon was the backbone of mono red burn decks when 5D was standard. It's a crap rare.
Was fallen empires good? Why does he have it shown at the beginning. Never played magic before
Paused it to comment. Please don’t stress the foils like that. I was waiting to hear “Oops and now it’s creased and pringeled”. ;). Awesome video.
22:40 Rudy your greenscreen had a lag there
thx for reminding me about Bringer of the Blue Dawn
20:01 Watched the entire video just waiting for Rudy to open a Reversal of Fortune and go "oh my gawd, the women in this set!!!"
I love the art on that Reversal of Fortune card.
Forget playing, I'm just going to start building my position on hot chicks in awesome art styles.
If I could make an alternate universe this is how I would create magic now.
This seemed like a set that was geared toward new players
That same engineered explosives is $18 bucks as of feb 2020
Hey Rudy,
Have you seen the price of Mercadian Masques Foil Thieves' Auctions.
What are your thoughts?
No aether vial?
21:08 rudy forgot to say how that card has a casting cost of 14.
I would love to see a Darksteel opening from you :)
Great video :D
i loved this era of magic. so many powerful spells.
slight curl? that fucker looks like Tony Hawk's ramp!
you should edit in the values of each hit. every time you get a good hit, the value pops up kinda thing.
What is "approximately fifth dawn approximately"? I do not understand.
Awesome box opening a foil EE would have set the house in fire !!!
Rudy, Make a podcast! I'd love to listen to your rants on my hour-long commute to my 'grown up' job.
#imstillonadataplan
Wonder how much it would cost to open that box of future sight
i am a french player, when i see the prices in USA it's 3 $ for 1 serum vision, I can have two for 3 euros !
Buy cards in Europe and sell it in USA
I have actually opened one pack of fifth dawn very to say the least
The packs are so shiny. I love them
The golden Era of magic.
you need to open old school boxes more! they are the bestest ever
So, the uncommon "Krark-Clan Ironworks" is almost $20?? Crazyness
If one is a patreon, and throws money at Rudy to open a box, do you still have to be a US resident to get the cards shipped? (What if I threw in the extra required for international shipping?).
You know how much I could get done with 4 arms in one day!?!?!
Nothing that's how much..
I feel you Rudy
No Krark Clan Ironworks?
Edit freeze at 22:40?
what do you think that happened? =O
Gotta say, it HURTS when 2 of the 6 sets I collected most are the worst of the worst jokes of magic all time and the others are severally low on power. Yay I have multiple sets of Fallen Empires and Homelands. Lol
Whats that playmat?
When is 6th Dawn coming out?
Do you not have forearms Rudy?
I'm a simple man. I see Mirrodin, I click.
(I mean, I watch every video in my sub box regardless, but still...)
Creepy Rudy origin film when
What happened at 22:40 ?
I bet rudy love the leisure suit Larry games, with all this talk of beautiful illustrated women.
13:37 I don’t feel so good...
