I wouldnt imagine RWD will be such a special thing in the future. As it will be with manual gearbox. Because everything you get nowadays is either fwd in economy car or if it is sport car it is AWD with automatic.
I mean small sportscars have manual too and hot hatch. That's all you really need. Don't understand the obsession with manuals on supercars, they're ment primarily for performance > engagement.

I’d rather have this version, with the colour matched side body panels and missing all the other stuff that doesn’t get included. It’s just a bit simpler. Even with 19s on it’s probably far more comfortable on the road.
Yeah agreed RWD and 19s are very appealing, but I do wish it had the adaptive suspension. This car is far too expensive to be cutting basic things like that.

I agree, the R8/Audi is known for the Quattro. The extra power, suspension and Quattro make the all wheel drive version my choice too. Plus, the R8 V10 Plus now has 620HP. This is faster than the 2 wheel drive version too.
@@JackMott False. We're comparing two identical cars. A higher horsepower AWD car will have far more parasitic loss of power getting to the tires vs RWD where the engine is feeding it directly. The AWD version will be significantly heavier and because of the front driven axle it will understeer. I have the 540 hp RWD version from 2021 and I'm significantly faster on a circuit than I was in the 610 hp AWD. The R8 LMS/GT3 is also rear powered.

Suppose you were on a much tighter circuit where putting power down on corner exit is a struggle for the RWD car, or a circuit with a much less sticky surface, or a tight circuit in cold weather. I agree that RWD will *tend* to be faster around a circuit, especially if you are bringing good tires to the track, as people tend to do.

I have an R8 RWD and Matt is more or less pretty spot on but there's two things worth mentioning - it's more comfortable to drive on the road than a 911 or a sporty Ferrari and it's faster on a track than the Quattro even with less power.
@@Sean-if7rp Less weight, less understeer, better balance. Depends on the track - on power tracks the lap pace is less affected but low/medium speed corners would cost the R8 Quattro time. I'm around 2-3 seconds faster with an ok lap than the times I've seen for WGI.

@@Sean-if7rp No, funny enough every last component of that engine including every screw and bolt is identical on the Huracan STO LP640. So realistically, yeah you can easily tune the engine reliably to an identical map but I'm waiting for my warranty to expire. It's a 2021.
Remember that commercial for R8, camera moving slowly from front of the car, that's straped on dynamometer rollers, towards back of the car. Engine is uncovered and when camera picks up nice angle all hell breakes loose. Engine hits red line trough gears, straps barely holding it down, pure power in action and then calming trough downshifting. Instant goosebumps 🤤
Quick tip for bypassing the rev limiter, if it's an auto put it in drive let it roll and while it's rolling put it in neutral and thrash that throttle 👌
So a Dacia Jogger achieved the same braking distance as a full blown super car. And I get to save £120k if I buy it through Carwow? Sounds like a no brainer to me

These plastic shifter paddles on an otherwise great steering wheel are really a bad joke on a >100k car. Especially as it‘s a part you’re constantly touching. I didn’t enjoy them in my S5 - I would hate them in a R8. Porsche and Mercedes/AMG (even BMW to a certain degree) do a better job on those. So many bits on the interior (middle console etc.) are also the same in an A4. I‘d rather get a „cheap“ Porsche with a great engine (Cayman GTS 4.0) with the same interior as the top Line (Turbo S) than a super expensive R8 with the same interior as an everyday middle class A4 family saloon.
Always liked the R8 but prefer the soft top version. But those exhaust tips are just terrible. Surely they could turn them into a thing of beauty. Maybe with four square or curved end tips or something milled and sexy like on the new Porsches and Ferraris.

@Massimo Hack smaller rims mean larger sidewalls on the tyres, plus I’d forego the bucket seats to have a much more driveable car on the road

Mat I own a RWD R8 20 plate & as soon as I picked it up last year I had it remapped. Now has 655 brake & I love it 👌

one thing you can do to somewhat work around the limiter is to drive around 5-10 kmh and put it in neutral, then you can rev it as much as you want.

Always loved R8s and this facelifted RWD model is my favorite without a doubt (except maybe the LMS GT3 race car..., but that's a different story).
All R8 models should have an option to engage a rear wheel drive mode. That's why I loved my E63s.
