Pete you may want to consider insulation in the roof..good job with the ventilation fan instillation. Enjoy your videos, thank you.
👍
drone shot was cool pete
Thank you 👍
Those are some lucky chickens! 🐓 Looking great Pete!👏
Thanks 👍
Some outside security lighting on all 4 sides of the shed or a couple of flood lights would probably be helpful especially if they are motion controlled. They are a good deterrent to scare off the night time predators.
Absolutely, I have them ready to install 👍
Very nice Pete those are lucky chickens! Love your video's!
Thanks 👍
I notice that you haven't put any screen between the fan and the vent. Is that just asking for trouble?
Second thing, you mentioned solar fans. One thing that does work, and is cheaper, is a car radiator fan connected through a thermostat to batteries. These are then charged by a solar panel.... Just thoughts...
There is chicken wire blocking any chicken from possibly flying into it. But a regular screen would get clogged up with the fine chicken feather dust.
Looks great Pete!!
Would love to see your solar set up, or a series of videos... if you'd be willing. We are going solar this year sometime, and enjoy all the info.
Blessings
Thanks, yes I'm going to do a video on my system once we workout some of the bugs.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading awesome, thanks
Such a fancy coop!
Thank you
I’m in south Alabama and our summers are pretty hot also. My coop is 4x5 and about 5 1/2 ft tall with a lean to roof. Now what can I do for better ventilation? I wish I could show you what it looks like. Anyway, I thought of some of those round vents about 3.5” from Lowes. They come in a pack of six.
Good idea and nice installation.
Thanks!
You are a good chicken dad
Nice work🌺I like it👍🥀
You are an accurate and organized person, are you engineer?
Thank you, no I'm no engineer and I wish I was organized in other areas of my life 😄
👍 from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thank you
I have a question I put a fan similar to yours but the dust keeps clogging it (I don’t have a floor) and it breaks. I was wondering if you have that issue with your fan? And any advice.
I love the shed idea for the hen house. Are you going to use heat lamps in the winter time in order to protect the chickens?
Thanks, When we order our chicken, we'll be using Ceramic Infrared Heat Emitters, less dangerous than heat lamps
Just about every chicken owner I've heard said that it's better to not heat your coop in the winter because 1. they don't need it and 2. if they ever get really used to it and you have a power outage or the heater fails and you don't know about it, your chickens can freeze.
In my case, I'm in the middle of building my coop and I put Rockwool insulation in the floor and will do the same for the walls. We rarely go below. 0F in the winter, so this should be good enough. I've seen people that get -30F in the winter and they still don't heat their coop!
Do you have any concern about bees, etc. making nest in that area where the vent/fan are located. you might need some screening?
Yeah if that happens then yes I'll have to put maybe a 1/4 inch metal mesh screening.
Do you have a fan for the other coop as well or is this one more necessary because the building is steel?
No, the other coop is much smaller and has three windows for ventilation.
I'm in the Austin area. I've been looking for land in east Texas for about a year now. Land is a hot commodity in Texas these days. Real estate agents seem to be quite lazy. Any suggestions?
More people are leaving the cities because of the craziness going on there. You better find something quick because things are going to get worse. Tyler Texas is growing rapidly and you can be 10 minute outside of Tyler in the country now, but in a year or two you'll be surrounded by subdivisions. Nacogdoches and Lufkin are smaller cities and you can find plenty of areas 20 to 30 minutes outside of them and not worry about them reaching you. Being close to a city is just convenient when it comes to shopping.
Took 2.5 years looking around Guadalupe county to find the right place for us. We found it, the real estate agent didn't. Slackers
Think I would have used a few 1 inch spacers on top versus 1 inch of caulk. That much chalk will shrink....
True, if it shrinks, then I'll cram something in there and re calk it.
I used J channel around my opening just like around a door or window. 😊
Most expensive chicken coop I have ever seen...
