Thank you for inspiring me to build my own custom coop
I built my own “Carolina Coop” a few years ago. It’s been really easy keeping about forty chickens. The biggest headache was always the amount of water they consume and how dirty they get the water containers. Everything changed after getting the water bar and rain barrel with the auto fill. Thank you. This video also reminded me I need to order some hemp.
This is so good for healthy poultry production
This came just in time. Thank you. We are adding 31 new layer hens to our existing flock plus we have 62 eggs incubating. We are adding an addition and just researched the ACRE and will be adding it to our new Roost. We live in a northern cold state we put our nesting boxes inside our insulated building so our girls stay warm during winter plus keeps the eggs from freezing. I hated our heated rain barrel water bar. It was constantly leaking and we had to keep replacing the springs. We will look at it and see how to improve it before next winter.
Chicken DREAM HOMES - jealous - I want to move in !
Absolutely Gorgeous Coop! Your passion for Creating and perfecting every detail is so appreciated! Having a coop like this on your property is an investment.
Wow! Another big, great improvement for your coops. Love all the research and continued thoughts for the well being for our girls. You are AWESOME! Smiles from Wyoming. SUMMER is coming!
❤
Love the upgrades and making some upgrades standard to reduce costs. Makes me look forward to purchasing one of your coops more. Just can not afford it now with my va disability checks. Trying to save up to purchase. Been watching you for years. Thank you!
It doesn't matter what you build is amazing 👍👍👍👍👍
Most epic chicken coop video I’ve ever seen
Awesome coops!
Love your videos and the design of your houses. So many great ideas. I have built a couple of coops in England for my friends who are back garden chicken keepers (but nothing compared to your standard). One day in the far flung future I would love to replicate one of your wonderful houses (the building of it being half the pleasure of keeping hens).
Keep up the wonderful videos! I have so much respect for the pride you take in your work and your care for chickens!
The acre looks great, better looking than the high density, the concrete pad is a Great idea 💡 for hurricane 🌀 areas
Thanks 👍
I really like the new material, a great find on your part and the upgrades I really like as well😊
Thank you!
So many great topics covered on an amazing coop!
I love your new design...and the new material...way too go
Looks amazing and well thought out
Awesome, my latest book involves a chicken, paramedic Chris and the runaway chicken.
Great upgrades, you have the best coops..
Thanks 👍
Beautiful. Love it!
You Coop design is fabulous. I wish I could afford one.
I did FRP glued to plywood for mine but having it be a solid piece like this is nice. I have also used PVC board but it is expensive compared to FRP. I also dig down to put the predator fence in the ground to keep it from getting tripped over and it anchored the coop for wind. I also use treated lumber for my frames to protect against the carpenter bees and termites.
Still you guys are top notch. Very nice work and very good quality.
Awesome & excellent improvements !!!
Love , love, love these coops. Thanks for the tour.
We truly appreciate the comment! It is our pleasure thank you!
As always nicely made and classy.
Love it - very good idea.
I. Want. One!!!!! It is just gorgeous !!!
I think the screw mounted plexi windows detract from the overall look of the whole thing. I get why, but I wouldn't want them myself. It really is fantastic overall!
I couldn’t agree more. We have experimented with other ways and we have found that the screws are very simple and we have gotten used to seeing the exposed fasteners. We used to float the polycarbonate inside the window frames, but we didn’t like how it trapped water and added a lot more work to the coop construction.
I love it !
I like it!
Flood proof .. yes!
I need to order one 😊
Love it
Thanks, Matt.🙂 Looks great! : Do you use pocket hole screws to secure the half-lap base pieces to itself?? 🤔🤔 Or was that just a vertical lag bolt in the corner?? Looks beautiful and SOLID! 💪💪
Such a dramatic intro lol but I love the new coops
love it
My concern in that HDPE is waterproof, and ACRE is water resistant. I realize that water is seldom an issue... but ACRE seems like taking a long-term chance. Maybe you can make a few videos with acre soaking in water long term to prove the change is good. I do like the texture change of acre however.
I think that’s a great idea. We soaked the acre in water for a year and there was zero change. What I hope to do is show that acre is so much better in many ways than using wood which is what makes up the exterior of our henhouses. I think I have spent too much time comparing the acre to the HDPE. I have always said that you can actually use regular wood for the lining of the deep litter system however that seems to be hard for a lot of people to grasp. When it comes to the deep litter, picking the right bedding should be the emphasis for prevention of moisture issues. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.
I'm local in your area, and we are going to be getting chickens. We need to do a collab!!!! Your coops are the best!
I LOVE MY American Coop! wanted one for 7 yrs - got it last summer - it's fabulous!! however I wish my husband would finally hook up the waterbar - but he's too afraid of cutting the hardware cloth - and we cant find a video from you all to help him be more confident with it.
Oh I love the acre. I don't mind engineering when it's reducing plastics -- plastics are fear inducing in this day and age.
Hi @CarolinaCoops! Our order is in for the 6x12 American coop. I have worked with Gnon on my order and am excited about the change to ACRE. As I understand it, wherever there would have been plywood it will now be acre. Does that include the triangle area above the end wall of the run as well as the walls of the henhouse?
Do you have any pics or videos of that new ACRE wood material after being used for a while to compare it with the HDPE?
That’s a great question and I will see what we can come up with
What a great up grade?
So nice. Wish I was of a financial group that could afford.
Does the watering system now come standard with every coop ordered?
That’s a great question and I can see now looking back from watching this video. It can be portrayed that way, but it does not come standard with any of the coops. I still want to get people options to choose their own watering system.
and whatever happened with the Japanese Tea House Chickencoop with the Shou sugi ban treatment???
How do we find out the price? And how much more for you coming out to another state?
Excellent question! Please check out our website or give us a call for a direct quote! +1 (919) 794 - 3989 www.carolinacoops.com
Are your pricing update on your website for this coop?
Great question! Currently, they are not, however please give us a call and we would be happy to assist you!

Would it be possible to make rope wrapped ladders?
Let’s just say we have something cooking that’s pretty cool.
Why don't you use roll out nest boxes?
I too wonder why rollout nest boxes aren’t used. Tim in northern TN
Chickens don’t want to lay eggs on a hillside. It’s not natural for them. Level nests are always best. It’s what chickens prefer.
Is that a built in feeder?
Yes. That is our feeder hopper. We decided to cut that out because we are trying to keep the videos as short as possible. There will be a new video coming out soon about our external feeder hoppers. One of the shots I accidentally buried our go pro in the bottom.
Why did you make the egg door open and drop down instead of raising up the roof?
Great question! It makes it easier to get the eggs, especially for children. Also, chickens can be spooked by a roof opening due to their concern about aerial predators, but they are always fine with the drop down doors. We made a video about our egg hutches here that you might enjoy which discusses these reasons and more: th-cam.com/video/NQ911SRPa54/w-d-xo.html
I don't like the seams of the ACRE in the litter box.
I was actively wanting to purchase a Carolina Coop. I traded a few emails with sales and was waiting on a response to a design question and some samples but I was ghosted by sales. Wasn't a good experience.
Sorry to hear that! We do try our best to keep all of our customers satisfied. Is there anything we can do now to improve your experience?
Great upgrades, too bad the cheap price is still out of budget for me haha. Granted I'm only keeping 6 chickens.
Trust us we wish we could lower our prices and we are doing everything in our power to keep the prices down for our customers. Even in these difficult times, we are constantly trying to make the best product as possible with a reduced cost, it is very difficult, but we believe in a few years we can do something great for everyone. Thank you for your support!
I thought your were going to start making a roll-out nest box????
We have. We are still not fans of the roll out best box option but we do offer them now. Chickens don’t want to lay eggs on a hillside.
getting a pretty big spare tire there lol
Please post your pics.
Rice hull? Must be from CHY-NA. Must be cheaper. It isn't tested over time yet. Only time will tell.
Actually the rice hull comes from rice grown in Texas, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Also acre is 10X the cost of real wood. Thanks for watching.
Acre is made in the USA- Mississippi.
@@kriswar10 sure it is.
@@kriswar10 assembled maybe.
@@jamesoncross7494 the address for the ACRE product made by Modern Mill is 1140 Frank Oakes Rd, McComb, MS 39648. Tim in northern TN
Not a fan of it I think it should have stayed the white plastic, just that alone would stop me from buying one and way change a product when it works perfectly!!!!!!
I really like your coops, but I just wish they weren’t so expensive and that you came and built them
