    I love him laughing at the idea of coming off the bench. As if someone couldn't possibly (John Havlicek) come off the bench (Kevin McHale) and help win championships and (Manu Ginobili) become an all-time great.

      Cornbread and Iggy won finals MVP, coming off the bench. That starting shit is an ego stroke and it shows those players are only concerned with their image and stats and are not committed to the overall success of the team. Melo has always been selfish as hell and never took an honest look at himself or his impact on his team.

      Phil did do a terrible job building around him in 2015, made the Knicks from a 9th seed in 2014, to the 15th in 2015, plus Melo was injured most of the season, Phil made the team worse just to get Kristaps or somebody else.

    • @darkinferno1219
      @darkinferno1219 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LakerFan287 not really. Phil got the job at the end of the 2014 season. They headed into the 2015 season with playoff aspirations but with Melo obviously playing hurt and the guys from 2013 (Amare, Shump, Chandler and JR) all playing like garbage they had no choice but to blow it up. Their record with Melo was 9-31 and by the time he shut it down they had a record of 10-43. They were on par with the current Knicks despite having WAY more talent.

    • @JuicyCharon

      @@darkinferno1219 This is correct. They intentionally tanked the season and got Porzingis out of it. They really should have built around Porzingis the moment they knew he was a star. Melo should have been traded during the tanking year in my opinion.

    It ain't the MAN or the LEAGUE trying to black ball him. He did this to himself. All the teams that took him in swore they could ignore his track record. Well now the truth is out and teams finally realize there is a severe downside, and since Melo is un-coachable, unwilling to sacrifice, and unable to evolve his game nobody at the moment wants him. Humility goes a long way and if he can't sit on the bench its a wrap for his career in the NBA. He'll get in the Hall, but no rings will be on his resume unless he makes real changes.

    Too bad he is going out like this. He is not that bad of a player really, if he just understood the position he is in right now, he could easily play a few more years in the NBA. Look at Vince Carter, he is going to bad teams, playing some minutes, teaching the young players, this is the perfect role for Carmelo, no pressure, solid play time and a role as a mentor of the new generation.

      don't compare the two. Vince realized his own limitations as he grew old. He developed his 3 point shot to the point where he's now considered a great spot up shooter. He passes the ball and helps in ball movement. His passion for basketball is still as great and is why he hasn't retired. Carmelo is still hogging up the ball movement jacking up horrible shots and looks like he's already given up on basketball entirely.

    • @william420adam
      @william420adam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This states exactly why he is totally loathed by smart basketball people. He doesn't have the self awareness to truly realize who he is. His self perception of himself became his enemy. Dirk had the same kind of player trajectory as him, weak defended but world class scorer. Everyone would agree Dirk has had and is a better player than him because Dirk knew exactly what he brought to the table. This is the conundrum when you are really good at such a young age, no one will be honest with you cause all your life you've been told you're the greatest. He was surround with people who would tell him what he wanted to hear but he really should've had someone in his inner circle tell him what all these other smart basketball people saw in him. Honesty always the best no matter how it might affect someone emotionally

    When Carmelo was in Denver his first 2-3 years he played hard all around, but once he got settled in with a new contract he just said F it to playing defense. After that point no coach has been able to get him to play solid D. He worries too much about potentially getting hurt if he plays D or crashes the boards. I'm surprised Phil Jackson put up with him for as long as he did, MJ and Pippen were two of the best defenders in the league when they played for Buddha in Chicago. That is why MJ is the GOAT; he played D, got his teammates involved in the game, he led and played hard every game. I was surprised MJ lasted as long as he did with the pace of play he had all those years. That is why he is GOAT, the guy just wouldn't quit.

    The most frustrating thing as a Knicks fan was watching Melo screw around in a badly positioned iso play that he himself was forcing, and then he'd either chuck the ball up in triple coverage, or he'd finally pass it to someone else, but with only a few seconds on the clock, to where his teammates were forced into bad shots because he ate most of the shot clock up dicking around with forced iso plays. It was like a recurring nightmare, and I was SOOooo glad when the Knicks finally got rid of him. The guy didn't make anyone around him better, and more than that, he made players around him look worse when he'd pass the ball with 2 seconds left and hope they'd look dumb instead.

He will probably make it to the Hall of Fame because of his stats. But if he had played defense, he wouldn't have scored as much as he did. In the end, he is not a winner.

    I'll never forget the look Melo had on his face when Jeremy Lin was cooking in New York during Linsanity. He looked extremely jealous of that man's success when cameras was on him during Lin's highlight moments on the court.. J-Lin was holding New York down unlike Melo because Lin was hitting everybody off in that system. That's EXACTLY what D'Antoni and Phil was looking for in Melo! It never happened...and Melo fans still make excuses for him. I love Melo, don't get me wrong, but he messed up all on his own...lack of humility.Plain and simple.

  • @markyen9626
    @markyen9626 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Melo is lazy on defence. He also has a very poor mindset when it comes to being a team player too. This has always been his personal brand as a pro ball player. The teams he used to play for tolerates that because he WAS an elite scorer. But that ship has sailed not to mention the game had changed.
    Worst of all about Melo.... if your brand yourself to be his lazy on defence, refuse to evolve your game and also take one or many for any team (Eg. Come off the bench), no team is gonna take you seriously as a possible locker room guy or mentor to younger players. Melo just rubs off the wrong way to player let alone teams.
    AI and Steph Marbury both remind me of what Melo is going through right now!!!
