1:48 when Trae bends the elbow again he's not creating miscalibration in power, he's trying to correct a miscalibration that already happened. He recognized that he was giving too much power to the shot, keeping the constincency of the mechanic would have given even more power so he retracted the arm in an attempt to "hit the brakes". This resulted in less control by the fingers and the already too strong shot ended up bricking with the trajectory tending to the right

I think a potential problem with concluding that these shooters follow the ball's flight with their eyes is that this contest is done on a time limit, so the only feedback a shooter can get without worrying about finishing in time is the ball flight, as watching for the whole shot every time would take too long.
In my playing experience, I mainly watch the rim but once in a while I watch the ball, especially when it comes off my hand a little weird.

I’m trying to rework my jumpshot this offseason. I’m on JV going into 10th next year. Any advice? My shot used to be really good for some reason it’s really inconsistent now

High school kids grow a lot and get stronger than they might at first realize. Your growth in size and strength likely altered how much power your jump generates and you still use your arms too much like younger kids do cuz they are smaller and weaker. Maybe use your arms less for strength and more to just guide the ball while drawing strength from your jump. I can't be sure without seeing you now and how you used to shoot.

BPDMF wow thanks never thought of it like that. That sounds exactly right

    • @KD-lx1cr

BPDMF that’s sounds exactly right, I’ve gotten a lot taller. My shot is pretty standard one motion. My set point is around nose n it’s pretty low. My left elbow definitely chickens out alittle which I think is the problem. My right arm also the elbow isn’t perfectly straight

@@KD-lx1cr I shot 2 motion, but I was in school 15 years ago before 1 motion got popular. I think 1 motion is quicker under pressure but 2 motion has more accuracy if given time to not rush and practiced a lot for when to release it. To each his own.
Most important thing you can do is get your jump down, figure out the strength you need on the shot then figure out the best ways for your body and proportions to guide the ball. Don't forget spin and arc, soft shots have nice spin but not too much so the ball bounces a little without flying off the rim or dying from too much spin.
Try shooting with something blocking the rim from your vision to simulate a hand in your face. For some reason it helped me like I needed to focus more or maybe it just kinda took my brain out of it and I relied on my mechanics.

BPDMF any thoughts on thumb flick or having a two motion for midrange and freethrow? Or just a different jumpshot in for both

If you don't have the correct form for your body, you can practice as much as you want.
You need to have the right technique, and then practice that.
Given the Old School way actually fights against biomechanics, people need a re-education - which is what Coach Nick is sharing.
And then, as you say: put the hard work in and train as much as you can

Anyone think the skills challenge is a joke & is unwatchable in the current state? It's so easy & doesn't showcase actual skill. Plus, the commercials oh the commercials. After every h2h, they put in 5 mins commercials after the 30 sec skills challenge n 30 sec interview, smh. It's easier to go watch the whole highlights in 20 mins rather than sit thru 3 hrs of this.
