My theory is the more athletic guys tend to have 2 motion shots because they jump high and will likely overshoot the shot with a 1 motion

Zach Lavine's vertical is why I think he struggled in the contest personally. In game, Lavine jumps way higher on his shot, but you can't do that in the contest because you'll be exhausted by the end, which messed up his rhythm

Thank you coach! I loved seeing the differences and most importantly, hearing you tell us that there is no real correct way to do it. If the ball goes in, then you’re doing it right.

    • @XxXStoneFingerXxX

There are a lot of similarities tho, like the turn. The differences are minor details. There’s a generally correct way to shoot and elite shooters can differ slightly from it thanks to the amount of reps they get.

@@Goldenblade14 They have been in the lottery for years besides one blip in 2018 with Jimmy Butler. And that whole fiasco was Thibodeau's fault because he knew he would lose his job if Butler wasn't traded. This season is definitely progress. Both the offense and defense have looked tremendously better than previous years. They have a firm hold on the 7th seed and will have a great chance to push for the 6th maybe even the 5th after all star break. And the team has like the 3rd youngest roster in the league. They will likely only get better as they age. They definitely have things to work on, but this is good progress. It's rare a franchise can just make themselves a contender after being bad for so long. Normally you have to build towards that. Look at the Nuggets record 2015-2020. Same with the Bucks 2015-2020. There is NO benefit to following the ball with your eyes upon release. Coach Nick will die on this hill but shooters are better off locking eyes on the target. Tracking the ball with eyes is something SOME shooters do when they have taken hundreds of thousands of shots to perfect proper form and alignment. Young players, do not fall into this propaganda… lock your eyes on the target and build proper muscle memory taking and making shots the right way.

Sure, lock your eyes on the target while the ball is in your hand, but first off, you cannot ignore that just about every great shooter followed the ball with his eyes after release. But here’s the real key: TRY IT. I guarantee if you’re a guy who only focuses on the rim, if u follow the ball, it will feel like a different shot. I guarantee it. Now ask yourself, if there’s no difference, then why does this happen to everybody?

@@bballbreakdown I actually do track the ball with my eyes from time to time. What I’m saying is that great shooters aren’t made because of that, they do that because they are great shooters already. I don’t believe there’s a correlation that you’re suggesting. If you trained 100 kids to track the ball and 100 kids to lock on target, I guarantee the kids who lock on target become better shooters by high school.

Imo, following the ball with your eyes after the release will make yourself conscious about the alignment of your dominant hand, elbow, shoulder, waist, knee and toe. That's how it feels when I shoot long balls. But in midrange and closer, it is better to stay locked in on the target.

it's a shame that "best" shooters nowadays, with all those money balls and 4pt shots, cant get over 30 and struggle with even 25...
stojakovic or bird, or some older shooters would eat them alive with so much possible points to score.
