Plug-in hybrid electric SUV tested - 2022 Lexus NX 450h+ review (F Sport PHEV)

  • This is the first ever plug-in hybrid SUV sold by Lexus in Australia, and it comes in the form of the new-generation Lexus NX 2022 model.
This version is the top-of-the-range NX 450h+ F Sport model, which combines a petrol engine and battery pack with electric motors at each axle, and the option to plug in the car to recharge the batteries, or use the engine to top them up on the run. And with more than 80km of claimed electric driving range, this PHEV is one of the leaders in its segment.
The practicality of a PHEV like this is going to depend on your life and your circumstances, but for the right buyer, the all-new Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV 2022 model is going to be the right car.
But perhaps the bigger question is whether you should pick this one over the brand’s renowned 350h hybrid variant or not - is it worth the $12,000 price premium, like for like?
As it is perhaps Lexus’ most important car since the UX300e full-electric small SUV, we’ve taken the NX 450h+ for a full post-launch follow-up review to give it the attention it deserves. Tell us your opinion on it in the comments section below.

    Here are some facts about cargo space: BMW X3 (Plug-in) - 450L, Audi Q5 (Plug-in) - 465L and Mercedes GLC (Plug-in) - 395L. So, the 520L cargo space of the NX isn't that bad for a Plug-in hybrid ;-)
I can't imagine that other plug-in hybrids can be driven more sportily. The M, AMG and RS certainly are, but not the plug-in hybrids.
The NX can also be driven like a fully electric car, you can accelerate as much as you want - it stays in electric mode as long as the batteries are full. With the other manufacturers, the engine will start.

This model DOES- NOT have a TURBO...But rather, a Naturally aspirated / Carb...........(important because it is well known that TURBOS stress engines)...simply said: see euro cars shop time!....this car combines the Elec Batt and engine to achieve *89 miles per Gallon in Hybred mode with HIGH torq, And VERY quick out of the hole...Jus' blew the doors off a 735i beemer...albeit for only a block ...( I am no dummy a V* will eventually pass many cars in the long dist. My car has Red Calipers against Powder coated Gloss spoke Black mags and All red "F" Sport Badges........ FAR better built than euro's (mine built in Japan) sadly, new releases are now being made in Canada! Like USA Union shops...no one gets fired for a hang over and bad work??? maybe)..... Z Best of the BEST F Sport 450h+ ! ….One more thing, Jus' a heads up!......My wife drives the RX 2020 model...Consider putting Michelins on your NX 450h+ F Sport......Far and away EVEN a much smoother ride Much better ride than the HARD Run Flat Bridgestones that come stock. Unless you are driving day after day without nightly charging, the battery charge will take a large chunk out of your daily petrol cost and increase the economy to something like 3.8L/100km or better.
