We've now spent a good amount of time with the NX 350 with its 2.4L turbo engine and now the NX 450h+ with the hybrid drivetrain and we can confidently say, the PHEV is worth the extra charge over the turbo engine. Owned this one for ~7 months and driven ~3500 miles. Good car, smooth and powerful, Lexus quality. Here is a list of things I wish it's different: 1. Start button: hell of confusions here. I push the button to start the engine, but need to push again to start the hybrid engine (unless the brake is down, it seems). Sometimes it asks to shift back to parking and start the hybrid engine again. It's inconsistent (so it's very confusing). Sometimes I push the button again not realizing it shuts down the whole thing (so I have to start again). This has happened so many times (b/c who will stare at dashboard reading the instructions all the time?). Is the hybrid engine supposed to start regardless unless the default mode is set otherwise (like EV only)? It could be easily designed in a more straight-forward way. Also, the left AC button is too close and too similar to the engine start button. I have mistaken it several times. After all, it's easier to reach than the engine button :). 2. Car always complains that "Default profile is not loaded", but I believe I have set up the profile correctly through Lexus app (which itself is a low quality app, a PITA to set up). So when you ask "Hey, Lexus, take me to home". It will say "not supported b/c you are in guest mode". But wait a minute, since it's default, why is it even needed to "load"? Should it be saved and connect/open automatically every time the power is on (unless it's not the primary driver, which Lexus should be able to detect thru weight, body shape, facial recognition, or memory button)? The trade-off between security and convenience can hardly justify the complexity and confusion it caused. Just "load" it every time!! 3. Odd mechanism to open door: Almost all of my guests have trouble to use it. I heard it's another security feature called digital latch, which can be used to prevent occupant injuries from oncoming traffic while door is opened. How often does that happen??? Maybe Lexus should simply refuse to open the door/start engine once it detects the driver is drunk? I'm sure that's more useful and happens more often. Another solution to a non-existent problem. Lexus should really wait until all my house doors are of e-latches!!! 4. Can't unplug the power off charge port unless the passenger door is unlocked. So inconvenient!!! Maybe another security feature to prevent anyone to unplug the power while it's being charged in public? But I would definitely thank anyone who unplugged it for me once it's full (Lexus can tell when it's full, right?) 5. Android Auto integration. It's only taking up 2/3 of the screen. We are wasting the other 1/3 of the precious real estate. 6. I wish the trunk is deep (not flat) so that the 2nd row can be folded and drop into the "hole" to the make the floor super flat. That's what I have with my Honda Oddyssey. More storage space, right? I don't think we need space for a spare tire since the tires are run-flat already. 7. The grille is ostentatious and too aggressive. It's overwhelming. We buy Lexus b/c it's a Lexus. There is no need to pretend to be a sports car. 8. Would be nice to double the EV range. Most of times when I get back, battery has been used up. I know, I know, this one already has the highest EV range...
Great review, as usual! I wish you’d start using the provided hooks to hang the charging cap though, most cars have one to hold the tether built into the cover so the paint doesn’t get marred.
I do agree about the red color on the interior. With a blue exterior it just doesn’t look like anything I’d buy. Now if the red colors were replaced with some blue accents I feel it would make this car much more attractive. I’m sure they’re not doing to offer matching interiors to exterior colors but that’s just my opinion. Great review.
The wireless charger disappoints for sure. I was so excited for that feature and it’s way too small, disconnects from my 14 Pro Max so much it’s basically useless.
We have the 500h with 4 electric motors. What I'm noticing is that when it's running with electric motors engaged, it doesn't coast the same way as when the gasoline engine is engaged and it pulls you back suddenly when you remove your footprint from the accelerator. My wife thought someone hit her from behind when it pulled her back a bit. Something we need to get used to I suppose but we also have the option to flip the drive mode to Sport which enables the 2.4L Turbo 4cyl gasoline engine which is more to what we are used to driving in.
Looks good but run flat tires are a big no. Can't get a Mark Levinson sound system. The Savage Geese TH-cam channel said the infotainment screen is too bright and you can't turn it down enough.

@@donaldbanner2185 I'll take your word for it. Not specifically a Lexus thing as I've seen Fords, Mercedez-benz and even no-vehicle qi chargers have an issue. There's nothing software can really do since physical contact isn't made due to the camera bump
@@steverogers7211 I'm not an engineer but I think they can make a shallow hole like 1/3 of the size of the charging pad. This should accommodate most phones with a camera bump.
Nice video - btw, im not sure what you're filming with, it might be some sort of smartphone with bad color calibration, but it does a big disservice to your review when showing off a car, because the color looks very incorrect, and people are interested in a true representation of a car's colorways.
Rear doors flow directly into the wheel well. To frame separation. Therefore the painted wheel well trim above the arches have a vertical crack in it in stead of one piece like my well designed Mazda. Mazda never took any short cuts.
I'm so confused what about that interior makes it luxurious, fake leather, metal look trim, hard touch plastics this interior wouldn't look out of place in the RAV4. This thing costs as much as an MDX or more depending on the trim why would you buy this.......

Exterior looks excellent but the interior just does not seem special or luxury enough. The previous generation had leather stitched on the doors and dash. This trades the higher quality materials for frankly an oversized screen and that's not a good thing. For the asking price of almost $85k CAD including the PHEV rebate, it's not a good enough, doesn't make me feel like it's better than say, a Venza or a Santa Fe.

@@naveenthemachine 5.5 seconds is actually quick in the real world despite whatever lower 0-60 numbers are appealing. Camry V6 is a 5.7-6.0 second car. But regardless we don’t see this bit of performance much coming from Lexus.
@@balmainattitude the Camry XLE v6 according to C&D does 60 in 5.6 seconds. So essentially neck in neck with the nx. And like the Camry you have to get a really good launch to get that performance.

Another review on a phev that is only available in select states and no mention of it. I really wish that was discussed in these videos. People need to know that they can't get these everywhere.
I will pass on Lexus because of their dumb, noisy, bumpy, expensive run flat tires. Give me a regular quality Michelin tire and I will reconsider. Run flats should be an option with quality Michelin being standard with a spare tire.
You gotta bring your best in the segment. Lexus failed to do so. It’s not even middle of the pack. You can’t just spend all the money and only make a less than satisfactory car. Every other brand brings stronger products in the segment and it really shows. It’s down towards the very bottom barely edging out the Infiniti qx50
@@naveenthemachine True but Toyota/Lexus have better reliability and you pay less for maintenance if you plan on keeping it more then 5 years. Lots of people will pay extra for reliability, that's why Toyota sells the most cars in the world even though most of their cars usually have less performance and lack some style.
I had an RDX and got rid of it for this car. It's not even close as it comes to quality, fit and finish. I had more creaks, pops, noises and not to mention the panoramic sunroof was replaced 3 weeks after taking the acura. Mind you, it wasn't a base, I had an a spec. Also, from a first 3 years maintenance perspective, I spent more on that Acura than anything else AND, I drove only 9k miles. Overall, driving the RDX was absolutely a blast however, it does not and cannot compare to a Lexus especially this new model.

If you knew anything about them, you'd know that they don't follow a maintenance schedule, the car tells you when to do maintenance. In 18k miles over 2 years, I had to replace the oil, which is full synthetic every time the maintenance mizer said so. I had to flush the brakes system not once but twice. Maintenance mizer . Acura started offering free maintenance because they got complaints from owners like myself that the first 2 years is chock full of expense. I had an RX, I drove it 32k miles in 3 years. First year was free maintenance, I didn't do anything other than oil changes. The Acura also needed the brakes replaced not once but twice. It's a known issue with the RDX because they squealed. I don't know of luxury cars that brakes squeal when they have 100 miles on the odometer. The sunroof was replaced, the entire assembly because it wouldn't open right. The rear hatch had to be re-lubed because it sounded like it was 10 years old at 300 miles on the odometer. The RDX was a fun car to drive, I enjoyed it. Even though the car was loud as hell for a luxury car. I didn't enjoy the problems it had and the lack of quality control.

But I would definitely thank anyone who unplugged it for me once it's full (Lexus can tell when it's full, right?)
You can buy better luxury cuvs that do a better job being luxurious. RDX cx5 gv70 are better
My dream car Lexus.
The colors are fantastic.
I'm surprised this doesn't have a pano roof while the rav4 prime does.
Lexus cutting corners again
Great job!! Now looking for the 2024 update.
Well Sofyan, the trunk size of the NX is actually bigger compared to the Plug-in competitors (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo) 🤔
Great review, as usual! I wish you’d start using the provided hooks to hang the charging cap though, most cars have one to hold the tether built into the cover so the paint doesn’t get marred.
i find it interesting that the RX outsells the NX, but, the RAV4 outsells the Highlander.. its like the middle ground isnt marketable
Nx is too small
I do agree about the red color on the interior. With a blue exterior it just doesn’t look like anything I’d buy. Now if the red colors were replaced with some blue accents I feel it would make this car much more attractive. I’m sure they’re not doing to offer matching interiors to exterior colors but that’s just my opinion. Great review.
The wireless charger disappoints for sure. I was so excited for that feature and it’s way too small, disconnects from my 14 Pro Max so much it’s basically useless.
The plain passenger side dash board bothers me a lot, considering the predecessor had stitched dash. Cost cutting again
Sry to correct redline!😅

Should be 5.9seconds.
I wish the redesigned RX had taken the styling cues from the NX. The NX has a far more attractive physique.

Also, these spam replies posing as Redline are getting ridiculous.
What’s the difference between the 2022’ and the 2023?
Honey I shrunk the RX! Lol
When is 2023 rav4 review coming brother ??
We have the 500h with 4 electric motors. What I'm noticing is that when it's running with electric motors engaged, it doesn't coast the same way as when the gasoline engine is engaged and it pulls you back suddenly when you remove your footprint from the accelerator. My wife thought someone hit her from behind when it pulled her back a bit. Something we need to get used to I suppose but we also have the option to flip the drive mode to Sport which enables the 2.4L Turbo 4cyl gasoline engine which is more to what we are used to driving in.
I like the blue but hope you can change the inside colors
8:32 why did he just drop the plug in cap like that 😩 that fresh new paint! Lol

Looks good but run flat tires are a big no. Can't get a Mark Levinson sound system. The Savage Geese TH-cam channel said the infotainment screen is too bright and you can't turn it down enough.

I'm confused how it's faster 0-60 compared to the Rav4 Prime? Tuning?
............................... T Lexus has a complexly Different REAR Electric motor....Lexus engineered a bit more powerful because of the added weight of the extra Sound dampening and the *added (Adaptive Suspension....well worth it!)
@@donaldbanner2185 I'll take your word for it. The NX is heavier due to sound dampening, has a smaller battery (and thus less EV miles), and the same engine, so I don't see how it's possible to go 0-60 faster than the Prime. Pretty sure the Prime is faster if even by .1 or .2 seconds. It's just physics.

I don’t think I would get the F sport model. I would get the regular 450h+. The only problem is neither of the 450h+ models have heated rear seats
Are you supposed to worry about the people back there?
I don't understand why Lexus sent you a car without enabling the Drive Connect (aka navigation). Regarding the Qi phone charger, a lot of users are complaining that it doesn't work with phones that have a camera bump and Lexus is not willing to address the problem.
Not specifically a Lexus thing as I've seen Fords, Mercedez-benz and even no-vehicle qi chargers have an issue. There's nothing software can really do since physical contact isn't made due to the camera bump
How is Lexus supposed to address it? Make a charging pad that fits camera bumps that are different for all those phones out there?
@@steverogers7211 I'm not an engineer but I think they can make a shallow hole like 1/3 of the size of the charging pad. This should accommodate most phones with a camera bump.
I'd go with NX350 turbo or the NX450H+ and skip over the 350H completely

Looked online to see what they sell for. 70 grand for some sort of upscale Rav4? Holy smokes, the times we live in.
Was very interested in this trim but the lack of a panoramic moonroof and ML sound system is an absolute deal breaker for me unfortunately.
Why is there no federal tax credit again? Same thing with Rav4 prime?
Because its built in Japan, only north America built Ev's or phev's qualify
Also why isn't the Lexington offered??????
I'm so confused what about that interior makes it luxurious, fake leather, metal look trim, hard touch plastics this interior wouldn't look out of place in the RAV4. It's hard to imagine choosing this over actual luxurious competition, mainstream brand Higher optioned SUVs, or even a Rav4. This thing costs as much as an MDX or more depending on the trim why would you buy this.......
Exactly! Once you're done adding all the "options" you're paying as much as full size luxury vehicle. Nice car but I think its a pass for me.
The " Fake" leather is superior to real leather....It feels smells like leather HOWEVER.......will Not Crack and is indeed perforated with small holes so the SEATS are Fax Cooked in summer and fan warmed in winter!....My car is all carbon Fiber interior

It’s even as fast as a Toyota Camry v6
@@naveenthemachine 5.5 seconds is actually quick in the real world despite whatever lower 0-60 numbers are appealing. Camry V6 is a 5.7-6.0 second car. But regardless we don’t see this bit of performance much coming from Lexus.

9 seconds 😢
9 second in EV mode, 5.5 in Hybrid mode. What’s the problem?
Not a fan of Lexus, I would rather wait on new RDX, hopefully it will offer touch screen and hybrid or EV options.
@@jorgearaneta6919stop fkn lying lol. RDX way better

@@jorgearaneta6919 . Sounds to me that either you bought an RDX many years old or you have no idea how to maintain your own vehicle. None of what you wrote makes any sense.
@MrSupernova111 sounds to me you have no clue and don't own one. I had a 2020 a spec SH AWD.
