I bought the same one for my 2001 Solara and i had to use the big plastic box (I believe it’s called a resonator) to be able to connect all 3 hoses since the tube only has room for 2. If you don’t connect one that I forgot when I first installed it like you did I got an engine code for system too lean. That box will quiet things down though. Also I had to modify the MAF sensor just to fit the thing in my car but I love it!

@@vcrxnkzy-4261 no it wouldn’t but it would make it run lean & mess up your fuel trims because the ecu is not tuned for that so you actually lose horsepower as well but hey it sounds good.

that "big" vacuum line is actually the pcv valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) breather, that is why you had liquid inside the intake pipe as little bits of oil goes through the valve sometimes. to pass emissions the "blow bye" has to re enter the combustion chamber and get burnt instead of venting to atmosphere, you can install a catch can and put the pipe into the same spot onto the intake to minimise the oil getting into the intake and stopping some horses or clogging up the throttle body. also want to see a catch can install video :P

If you're looking for a better exhaust, I went with a magnaflow straight through muffler on my 1MZ V6 Solara. Resonator and everything else are still on, only replaced the stock muffler. Sounds pretty quiet on the inside and real smooth but moderately loud on the outside. Only ran me about 150 bucks (cost to get it welded on at the place I got it from is included)

I put the exact same one on my 2000 v6 camry and on the third day I got a p0171 code (engine running lean) it was too much air I ran a diagnostics on it and it my fuel trim was at 39.5 for longterm and short term 19.5 which is the highest you can basically get so the ecu had to compensate with a heck of a lot more gas... needles to say I had to put the stock one back on and everything went back to normal but damn it I tried!
Installing ram air is like 90 percent of the time going to do that to any ecu unless you pair it with a tune
its awesome that a simple thing like that can release so much potential! Toyotas are so undertuned with their quiet exhausts and intakes. Like a pod filter on a sports car is often a bad thing and limits airflow or warms it up and lowers power. But on a quiet camry/corolla/etc you can literally trade the quietness for more airflow. This is the kind of thing that got me excited about working on cars.

Use a steering column cover scrapyard $2 and cover it with tinfoil duck tape them paint it with bed liner paint or header paint $5 bolt it to the old air box bolt points better than any heat shield you can buy anywhere .

The "liquid in your old intake is old from your rocker cover. The vacume lines that come off it sends all the unuses gasses and oil gets spit up into your intake in some cases. That's why it's good to install a catch can. Oil usally doesn't spit into your intake unless your driving hard or your card has engine issues lol

The 1mzfe is a great motor.my camry solar had the same motor had an injen intake on it same color coupler and filter i also painted the plastic cover red where it says 3000 v6 with the toyota symbol.it was souch a nice touch
Try the acceleration with the over drive off apparently it increases your throttle response. It’s located on the gear shifter in the Camry’s

I did it on mine years ago u dont get too much power it just breathes more and sounds better wen u punch it. But the original air box is better but modify installing that filter or a k and n filter inside the air box due to heat soak there are no vents on that good so theres hot air inside so that open filter will not suck in cold air but hot air wen u drive it.that is bad if u suck in hot air if ur talking horsepower...nothing will happen if ur driving normal everyday but if ur going to punch it or race it u need a cold air setup to connect a bit lower somewhere in the engine or use the stock air box with a k & n filter these are rewashable wit water.. Wait till u install performance headers and 2 in exhaust...now its breathing more air might give about 2-5 hp it doesnt give alot but every hp counts on everything u fix and install other parts..

I kinda want to do this. I got my moms 1998 Camry as a hand me down. Which is nice I didn’t have to buy it, just have to take care of fixing it. Which it doesn’t have too many issues and only 260k miles. Which is low for that car. And it will be awhile until I can afford to buy a new car. And it would be funny to see people’s reactions.

My guy...hose clamps exist, those little silver rings? Instead of the zip ties I’d go to a Napa or something and grab a few and tiren them around the hoses, the zip ties are a bit tacky and the hose clamps just looks cleaner

Lol,your young and still learning,I was once like you with these pod filters and cold air intake systems-although it's fun modifying cars doing this will actually make your camry run worse and your fuel consumption will rise,and you will eventually get error codes pop up. I did this year's ago to a couple of v6 engines and after a while they ran shithouse and used more fuel and didn't gain any extra horsepower.
It’s been proven that these pod filters actually cause you to lose power, the manufacturers do tons of research and development on airbox designs and often times the oem airbox is the best solution.

I have the XV40 Camry so the stock intake will stay but get a drop in K&N, also not many aftermarket exhaust parts but I did find a nice stainless straight through axle back. Thankfully the shifter for the automatic can have the knob swapped out so I'm getting something silly. Aside from aesthetic and audio improvements I might get a touch wider wheel to put just a little more rubber under my ride. I'm taking a car nobody would consider an "enthusiasts" car and being as enthusiastic as I can be.

Ur timing on ur car also makes a difference in ur horsepower installing new intake and changing ur engine oil and filter make difference in horsepower. If u dont understand the basic small things first u will never understand the larger things ahead...applies in life too. Not just mechanical in cars....
Most intake setups like this have been debunked on actually giving you more performance you feel like you get more performance because it makes the car sound throater and meaner I have actually seen the comparison of this type of intake side by side with the stock intake and most of the time the car with the stock intake would win but generally it would come down to driver error the driver who still had the stock intake on his car was just a bit better of a driver both the cars were in the manual configuration the only way this would help you is if it adds an aftermarket mass air flow sensor to your car that sends specific programming codes as an adjusted code going to the engine management system which would Advance the ignition timing past with the cars OEM set maximum ignition timing would be and then the only way to take advantage of that in a car like that is to run premium octane fuel instead of mid octane fuel which that would allow the car to take advantage of the extra timing advance the pod filter itself has actually been deemed to be less effective once the engine is warmed up at actually doing anything positive as far as increasing your horsepower because instead of your stock intake box sucking the much cooler air from outside of the car it is now sucking the preheated air from inside the engine bay compartment putting this on a car that would be a daily driver and managing to use the OEM mass air flow sensor would actually help to increase your MPG because preheating the intake air charge actually does help to increase your car's fuel economy a little bit there have been people who have taken and on stock and takes a vehicle to increase MPG installed copper coil wiring on the intake of their car and ran the engines coolant through it and these people said that they definitely noticed an increase in fuel economy and these people were also the type to have a pretty regular trip a pretty regular route fill their gas tank up every time they went to the gas station and keep track of their General fuel economy the thing on these that makes most people think that their car is faster is the fact that it sounds meaner and throat ear plus because of how much more surface there is on the pod filter versus the stock intake filter that was just replaced it helps to increase the throttle response when you are at 2/3 throttle and less and down lower in the engine which is what makes people think their car feels faster because there is less resistance to flowing air from the bigger pod filter which is the only reason that you would not really hurt your performance as I said it which really comes down to driver error when you put these filters on your car this one looks like it was a kit that also replaced the mass airflow sensor in the car with a different more sensitive mass air flow sensor and that would help to even with the stock intake box and just replacing the mass airflow sensor now once he makes a box for that that keeps it from sucking the warm engine bay air into the intake of the engine and it is sucking the cooler outside air from the outside of the car then yes it will be helping his Karl's performance but as we see the setup once the engine gets warm with only about two minutes of running the engine exhaust manifold is already starting to put out a lot of heat into the engine bay compartment and after about 5 minutes or so of running the car especially driving down the road the preheated charge on the air going into the engine would be easily 20 degrees Celsius warmer than the air that is going into the engine with the stock intake box installed on the car which will be the only thing that is helping performance at all is how much more free-flowing the pod filter is versus the stock intake filter I know people who have modified their stock intake box to receive a pod filter and they say that even with a stock intake box but being able to change out to a pod filter helps out quite a bit especially with the stock intake box and those guys usually go and get an aftermarket mass air flow sensor that is more performance-oriented as well.

Look, if you slap a cold air intake, especially like that which is short ram, it doesnt add hp. It will mess up your air to fuel ratio, MAF and so on. The only way that your v6 will get more power from that is to tune it. Right now your car is sucking hot air.

@@scrimmo it's a nice way to make your car sound better. Sounds way better and less obnoxious than a ricer straight pipe. Also it doesn't decrease power, and if it does the loss is so small that it don't really matter. It should add maybe 2-5hp since it restricts airflow less than the stock one. It's not a dumb mod but not that worth it if ur doing it for power. I'll do this to my car at some point to get those sweet intake sounds.

I don't see MAF. If it's part of air box, cut it off, and reattach with silicone hoses, some say you'll get worse mpg for hot air. Idk, but no MAF and not knowing how much air enters engine is bad

Removing the old air setup and replacing it with that actually does the opposite... it puts warm, less denser engine air in the car... this is the most common mistake people do... if you want to more power, you'll need to replace the paper filter with a high flow oem one...
