Just a short, but satisfying session! Not because I caught a lot of fish or a big one, but because I managed to catch some nice fish in a very short time! Note the pole is again a short one, no need for 16 Mts here, simple baits and tactics scored!
Once again I so enjoy your fishing videos my friend!! You encouraged me to go to the River last Thursday for some winter fishing. Caught a few nice walleye/Zander in Europe. I wish I could cross the Atlantic and fish for a few perch right beside you. Anyways, I love your vids for they truly help me relax after a long busy day!! Thank you so much mate!!!!!!!!!!!!
I admire your enthusiasm for fishing, Bill. It's interesting to watch the various fishing methods used around the world and I'm learning a lot from your videos.

Very enjoyable. We have to enjoy the time we are given even if it is an hour, nicely done! My father taught me to not trust my eyes when I was float fishing as a young boy, he said “wait before setting the hook”. I never have forgot that as I am sure that young man will not either. Hope you reach your goal of a 3# Perch on camera but even if not you make your videos very enjoyable and informative for us viewers, thanks Bill.
Loving your videos. Bill. I live in Milton Keynes and a stones throw from a stretch of the Grand Union Canal.Had my PB bream last summer on an early morning trip down the tow path. A nice 6lb slab fell to 1 red maggot with 2 castor on a size 14 hook. My only downside i've found to fishing the Grand Union Canal,is the amount of boat traffic. It's one after the other on most summer days. Now i come from Liverpool and i also lived in Preston/Lancashire for a while and fished both the Leeds/Liverpool Canal and the Lanacaster Canal. Both those canals had nowhere near the amount of boats coming up and down. Also had a few small catfish out of my local stretch and my young son has had his PB Perch which was a beautiful 3lber. He was overjoyed and is fast becoming a really good young angler.Anyway keep the videos coming,as they are brilliant and so enjoyable to watch.
scouse1967 Thank you. This canal is stuffed in some area’s with quality fish. Some area’s have huge shoals of skimmers with a few bigger bream. Others are full of carp and the perch and pike show all over. Never seen a 2lbs plus roach but have come close, and shed loads of roach and gudgeon. I hope you and your son carry on catching and enjoying your fishing. Bill

On a good night you can get a hundred worms in a couple of hours or less. Big money savings as well. If you don’t have a garden look for mown roadside verges. Have fun Bill
Thanks Bill. I am learning all the time from you. Tell me - years ago, there was a kind of legend on the Thames, that, if you caught a small perch, and returned it straight away, as opposed to putting in a keep net until later, it would go off and tell its mates, and the whole shoal would depart. Your consistent careful catching would seem to deny this. Do you have any thoughts? Best wishes and keep well.
Graham Clifton Hi well I think there may be a grain of truth in that saying but not sure. If you fish for for bream and skimmers and lose a fish early on, bites often stop. I think in the case of shoaling fish one fish spooking scares the rest of the shoal. The secret is to get the fish feeding confidently before fishing for them. Bill
gazellis1961 Hi I often fish this length mostly as I can park for free a very short walk from the canal. It is a good length for fishing all year but I do fish other parts of the canal. Bill
334 Outdoors Hi these are traditional narrow boats. Originally used for bulk haulage on the canal network. Early type of heavy goods transport, nowadays used mostly as house boats. Bill
Woodsman243 Hi well that’s not an easy question to answer. For general silver fishing on the canal, it would be a Preston no 5 solid. For bigger bream and perch maybe an 8 or 10 solid. For big fish ie carp I favour a 20 or more hollow. You must match the hook and line to the elastic. If you were fishing with a 22 with an 0.008 I lbs hooklength I might even use a no 3 solid. If I’m fishing a size 6 hook and 4 to 6 lbs line I prefer a stronger elastic to set the bigger hook on this day I had a 12 solid elastic. Don’t use tiny fire wire hooks with heavy elastics. I hope this helps, others may use a hollow elastic but it’s what you prefer. Bill
Hey Bill, I am sorry your wife is I'll. I think you need to fish for your own mental health. I am in Canada so we are almost brothers. We can't scatter bait either, it is called "Chumming," here, but we figure fishing out pretty well for our species. I really appreciate your title here, I am a trout snob, but I live on a river with other species, even sturgeon. I really don't fish it but your videos are making me think I am missing out. Thank you Bill, you give your wife my best wishes from Canada and take care of yourself! Somewhere I thought I saw that your name is Bill! If I am wrong I apologize.
Kerry Pitt Hi that’s an honest comment! I don’t doubt if I was Canadian, and I nearly was, I would be catching some beautiful fish in a beautiful uncrowded country. Going back to groundbait and loose feed, I feel that works in someways, as your fish and waters are different to mine. But I know if you can persuade fish to feed on loose offerings you will catch a lot more. Ever watched trout go crazy fighting for loose fed maggots? I hope you carry on catching plenty so Tight Lines Bill
Hi bill, love the vids the pole what elastic are you using and from then what rig are you using always wonder what weight lines /sections you use do you use just 1 line strength all way through or do you lower it closer to the hook?
Hi on the day I was using a 12 solid elastic and the rig line was 0.20 about 6 lbs and the hooklength was 0.18 about 5 lbs.Sometimes I fish straight thru’. The float was a 0.4 gram Drennan in-line dibber and the hook was a size 6 Kamasan B583. But don’t forget I’m fishing for big perch with big baits. If I was using maggots, casters or small pieces of worm I would step down to a 3 lbs 0.15 hooklength and an 18 wide gape matched to a no 10 solid elastic. Match the hook to the line to the elastic and to the expected fish size. Hope this helps Bill
andrew kolb Hi not to long. Now I know that a lot of anglers believe the boats disturb the fish. I’m not sure as I have caught fish while the water is still spinning after the boats passage. I think the fish can hear the boats long before they arrive and just shift while the boat passes by, then drift straight back and carry on as normal. I sometimes add extra bait as soon as the water settles. Bill
Easy Fishing no kidding Bill...I assume that there’s a strict speed limit in those canals...started watching your videos only a few weeks ago while visiting Clevedon/Nailsea area...love your low key style
Nice one Bill so how long was the session, 2 hours? by the way i remember having a bit of a rant about something earlier this year not too sure what came over me i guess i was just frustrated mainly with match anglers and how they can become disinterested when the fishing isnt going well. As long as you're getting a steady amount of bites and catching fish, even small ones its always nice to be beside the bank no matter pleasure or match angling. Good to see that you're well and still fishing anyway, all the best. Chris.
cns180784 Hi Chris well I fished for 1 3/4 hours. My rule of thumb is if I’m fishing I’m happy, if I’m catching I’m more happy. If I can’t catch I just think and try harder! Bill
@@easyfishing1936 Thats the one Bill i'm 100% with you on that statement. Being beside the bank brings me happiness alone. Of course on a commercial you fully expect to catch but on a river or canal theres a sense of mystery in wondering what you'll catch and those days are just bliss still even just being sat by the bank and not catching. All the best and look forward to your next video.
zefram Cochrane Hi I live in Bedfordshire and mostly fish waters within 20 miles of my house. The Gt Ouse and its tributaries , and the GUC and local angling club waters. Bill
@@easyfishing1936 yes sir, a 6" dark green bottom feeding fish that looks like a big bubbly tadpole, mostly found in brackish/saltwater but can be found randomly like crayfish. They move fairly twitchy but do not travel distances as they have no swimming bladder, so it's an ideal target for bigger perch since they can't swim far up. Best regards.
John Clark Hi where shall I start! Cooking, cleaning, shopping, gardening all normal things. Then helping my wife, taking the dog out, loads of trips to various hospital appointments, doctors for both of us etc. Does not leave much time for fishing! Bill
Because he's using Lobworm. The hook size you choose is always to match the size of the bait you use. If you try and use a size 18 for example, chances are the lob will come off with a slight knock from a fish.
Paul M Simple answer I was using a very big bait anything smaller would be masked. For half lobworm baits I might use a 10 or a 12, and for small worms casters etc I use an 18. Bill
Nice session bill thought you have had florocarbon as a hooklength i use 5LB mainline to a 3LB florocarbon in the winter for perch on the float for light lure fishing i use 6LB braid i use 2gram micro lures deadly for perch fishing great fishing bill the ROD FATHER well fished bill i like it ALIEN
paraffinalien Hi when I’m on the Gt Ouse and the waters clear I use fluorocarbon and when I need an abrasion resistant hook length. If I can in the winter I will step down in hook length diameter and when roach fishing I often use fluorocarbon down to 0.008. Bill

princebry0 hi, he says he using 6 pound mainline to a 5 pound hook length, and a size 6 hook
Good session Bill...how long after that barge went by did you have to wait for the action to start up again?
andrew kolb Hi not to long.
Nice video bill is that the new pole
julian brown Hi no this is my Middy Muscle tech. The new one is whip for fishing to hand which I will try at the first opportunity. Bill
It's nice that you do the videos on the canal all natural fishing not like the pig stuffed commercials fishing really his the best medicine
Another nice video.. Well done :-)
Great stuff Bill!
May I ask where do you live, and the river and canals you fish
zefram Cochrane Hi I live in Bedfordshire and mostly fish waters within 20 miles of my house. The Gt Ouse and its tributaries , and the GUC and local angling club waters. Bill
@@easyfishing1936 not to far from me st neots
Как же живут люди... молодцы..
New subscriber, great content mate
Nice vid, thanks!
You have just earned another subby 👍
Nice little video Bill ☺
what's a skimmer?
Small silver fish like roach and Rudd etc
Great video
Goby fish are* a great bait for perch
Alex Oprel Hi I assume that’s a small fish? Perch are predators and love live baits.
Brilliant. Bill cheers
We gonna see the new rod in action soon Bill?
Alex Cook Hi I hope so it’s just a case of the right time and place! Bill
So what does take up most of yer time pal... you still working for a living???
John Clark Hi where shall I start! Cooking, cleaning, shopping, gardening all normal things. Then helping my wife, taking the dog out, loads of trips to various hospital appointments, doctors for both of us etc. Does not leave much time for fishing! Bill
Who’s disliking this top fellas vids? Positive vibes only. If you don’t like don’t watch. No need to be a prick
Are you from Bedford?
ALEX-_-LTFC Hi no I’m a Norfolk boy now living in Luton. Bill
Good vid bill, but why such a big hook ?
Because he's using Lobworm. The hook size you choose is always to match the size of the bait you use. If you try and use a size 18 for example, chances are the lob will come off with a slight knock from a fish.
Paul M Simple answer I was using a very big bait anything smaller would be masked. For half lobworm baits I might use a 10 or a 12, and for small worms casters etc I use an 18. Bill
Easy Fishing Ok, thanks Bill
Do you ever eat any of the fish you catch ?
Catch and release in the UK for coarse fish. Some exceptions for game fish.
Chris's variety channel Hi yes I eat sea fish I’ve caught and trout. Bill
Are the roach, bream and perch not edible ? I'm curious. We eat perch in the states.
Roach and bream definitely not. However red fin perch are almost identical to the ones you eat in the US but we don't eat them here.
I would do the same here too Bill
nice fish
Bill
Do you have any real lakes there? are just canal fishing.
There are lakes all over the UK as well as canals and rivers
From across the pond fish on.
Nice excellent
