  • Between 2004 and 2006 Jennifer Bryson served as a lead interrogator at the infamous Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba. Working for the DIA, Bryson was the first woman and non-military person to take on the role, overseeing the interrogations of the Saudi detainees, as well as carrying out interrogations with high-level al-Qaeda prisoners as well.
But Bryson started to feel uneasy with some of the interrogation methods that were being put in front of her, and refused to sign off on them. She says it was her Catholic faith, among other things, that caused her to examine her conscience and decide certain interrogation techniques were wrong. Now, in this exclusive interview, she tells EWTN's Colm Flynn about her time at Guantanamo Bay and why she thinks torture is never the answer.
Pope Francis, this month, has also released a video message, calling for an end to torture around the world.

I think Americans need to question why the detainee would brag about such a thing. I wonder if him being raped, beaten, force fed drowned, his holy book thrown in the toilet, threatened with their families being kidnapped and tortured had anything to do with him wanting to antagonize the prison guards? 🧐hmmm??

She was neither the first civilian interrogation team chief nor the first female interrogation team chief as she claimed in other interviews. We interrogators would call this a sign of deception and would have to wonder about all the information that follows this deception. She is misinterpreting rapport as well. A drill sergeant builds rapport on day one, but no one would confuse their behavior with friendly. She is correct about torture, but I'd be interested in her definition of torture. And, I'd agree that an interrogator has to take personal emotion and grievance out of the interrogation booth.

This woman interrogating anyone is nearly comedic. The incoherent legal system at Gitmo boggles the mind. And why is Christ there in any event?

What a fantastic and meaningful conversation. Thank you, Colm. Thank you, Jennifer. I am thankful you would not treat our enemies with torture, Jennifer. I know the Lord guided you. God bless you both.

IET (Torture) isn´t and never was about getting information....it was about cruel people wanting to punish someone because they couldn´t get them to talk....end of story

OMG we're REALLY talking christians/catholics here. Yep Jen Matthews was born again and she is dead now. I guarantee she was surprised when she did not meet god nor the devil, nor her family or old pets. She was just dead. I got over 12 years of catholic school, talking snakes in a garden giving out apples and THAT is just the beginning of superstition. No way anymore. I took a lot of theology classes I didn't just point to yet another book and says oh THAT was dicinely written.
