I always having a hard time explaining to myself or my friend why Dungeon Meshi is amazing, but after watching this video I realized that everything you explained is exactly why I love it. Ryoko Kui is a genius at this and you are probably as good as her. Thank you so much, it's very inspiring.
That's very high praise and I certainly hope to be able to create something as iconic as Dungeon Meshi one day too (Both in terms of art but also something food related :D)
I am so happy I found your channel, content such as this are very scarce! It’s not just about making pretty art, it’s about making art that has depth, story and design
I'm a sucker for when you can just glance at one item and know exactly what culture it belongs to when it shares design elements in fantasy art. Even something more childlike, like say Neopets would do that with their food. So it makes me happy learning about this so I can try my hand at it, it looks like such fun to draw.
That's definitely what I aim for. My analogy is that I want my art to be like good home cooking or street food. Humble, easily enjoyed by all but packed with flavor!
I think this is genuinely my new favourite worldbuilding/design video. The way you talked about your process and all the advice and tips you gave were so insightful! It's super clear that you know what you're doing - there were so many moments during this video where I was thinking to myself "wow, you're right, that makes so much sense" or "oh my god that's super smart!" I'm definitely keeping this video in mind for future creative projects. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing art and knowledge!!
I enjoyed this immensely ! Incredibly inspiring! I could feel my imagination spinning the world further in my head with your clever designs. The culture and place feels to real. I'll definitely be coming back to this !
Fantastic video Jourdan! I really enjoyed the section on Functional Input and note taking! Its something we can so easily forget and I'm so glad you touched on it!
Hello Jtuff, you are producing great content, I discovered your work and your channel a short time ago but I already liked it a lot, it would be really cool to see more videos like these, there is a lot of good information, and I will definitely try to apply some of this content in my projects personal and work, thank you and congratulations on your work.
oh i looved this!!!!! watching you go through the steps as you describe the thought process behind how you design buildings is really interesting and helpful. ive been trying to design my own buildings lately and havent really known where to start, and i keep defaulting back to the vaguely european style of building, which is a bit overdone these days. im gonna follow along with how you did this building then i'll try my own, these are so so so helpful, you have no clue!!!!! :-) cant wait for ur next vid
A man you are doing great. Your skills are awesome and your teaching skills are awesome keep doing great work and share it with us. I highly recommend your channel to beginner artists.
Such a helpful and informative video! The focus on world-building and functional storytelling makes this such a useful guide to designing. I want to eat that kebab now.
this is a really cool video, it made me realise that the way I use references is similar to the challenge u did, its always a bunch of random ideas bits and bobs slapped all together, expect I rarerly have functionality in mind, I will try that next time :D
Fantastic stuff! I love the texture of the final drawings, similar to Copic markers and pencil in some ways. Awesome designs and well rendered! Love the process
Love this ! Generous, Great in depth process. Thanks ! Would love to see a similar video on interior environment design. I've always struggled with coming up with all the STUFF in a room.. you know?
What a great video. I've been following your work for some time and it's awesome to see the thought process behind it. Absolutely love the way you break down your design thinking and I really like the style of your illustrations! I think the next step would be to do a creature design for Lumipede!
thank you for this video dude, I'm a props concept artist and this one inspired me a lot, hope you'll get more subs and views ASAP because this is high quality content fr
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m currently trying to do some world building myself and with this video you gave me an idea on how I’m going to approach it.
Seeing the project unfold and how you go so deep in to explanation in to everything is just a gold mine of info. Very entertaining how you gave us some lore, would love to see more content like this!
Damn, this video is amazing content! Concept design with such in depth explanation and on such a high skill level is normally something you have to pay for. I am in awe of your skill and you explain your process and thoughts extremely well and structured so it's easy to follow along. If you keep this level of quality up, you will be in the hundreds of thousands subscribers in no time.
you deserves a lot viewers and subscribers, like seriously, ur content is such a GOLD, love it so muchh, i love watching how u explaining ur drawing so well, and ur drawing type of art is got into me to be inspired, the reference method u are using is open my mind new level of drawing, thanks a lot man!!
I am watching this at night outside and heard the music and got scared for a second because I thought it was the ice cream man at night hahaha creepy. These ideas are great! Subbed, you know, often times the ideas that aren’t my favorite, my clients like the most, so that’s another reason to just do all the ideas lol
Very nice video coi. There are so many little nuggets sprinkled here and there. They're always good reminders even if someone already knows those tips. I had some nitpicky thoughts regarding the design: 1. Scale of things. Comparing the size of the scale on the grilled food vs the scale being used for the roof, there seems to be a huge discrepancy in size. Unless they're eating the baby lumipedes instead. 2. It may make more logical sense (but since it's a fantasy world, lots of leeway there), if the plates being used for armor and roof are red. The idea is that, like in our world, crustaceans are usually cooked first before we take off their exoskeletons, so maybe in this world it's the same thing. Then maybe the kebab stall doubles as a shop that sells lumipede shells. They sell the cooked meat and shells separately.
Thank you! I truly appreciate the detailed explanation of the design concepts. It’s incredibly inspiring to gain insight into the thought process behind the scenes. Looking forward to more videos like this one!
Thank you! I don't really use it too much, since i'm trying to hone my ability to generate designs even if I had to work on a traditional sketchbook With that said, I still apply a similar way of thinking honed by sketchbashing exercises :)
Hey, thank for tou work! I'm interesting , ehat kind of brush do u use? I looks so kinda natural and ball-pen like. Is this one is one of the default, or it can be downloaded?
I love the approach and mindset but I'm wondering how your able to search for interesting references to begin with? Let's say, I want to make a castle. But I shouldn't just type in castle to avoid generic designs right? But what else would I search to come up with a cool texture/shape reference.
That's a good question! I think that you certainly should have some element of castle in it. If it's too far departed, you won't be able to recognize it as such. So think about mixing 70% castle with about 30% unexpected/novel. You can play around with the ratio, and the more castle there is, the safer it is. Hope this makes sense!
@@jtuffdesigns That does, but I'm wondering what your searching to find those cool abstract pottery / sculptural references to get details from. I love the idea of pulling unrelated items as a reference to add a unique spin, but because it is random, how do we search of it?
