@@Rhyciz You could make the chessboard also the box to store the pieces. Then you'd have a good amount of surface to detail without getting in the way of the actual board.
Ngl I would still have preferred the reversed for lore reasons, like Miquella is the only one of the empyreans that became a god like Marika (Malenia doesn’t really count for me in this case because she didn’t went through the process that Miquella did following Marika’s steps) and Radahn would have been a perfect reflection/opponent to Godfrey as well. Lore wise I feel that the Miquella (Queen) and Radahn (King) duo would have made more sense. Tho the idea of reverting the roles is kind of interesting but not enough for me.
@@LegoM12 i mean from a gameplay perspective, Radahn absolutely should be the queen. He’s the consort warrior protecting his god. The queen is the strongest piece protecting the king.
@@LegoM12then let me make it more interesting for you. Elden Ring is a game with a matriarcal system, with Queen Marika as god, and Godfrey as consort of said god. In practice, Godfrey led armies and fought in the vanguard, same a queen would do in chess. And Marika stood with the troupes in a safe position since she is the highest authority which must be protected from anything and everything at all costs, like the piece of the king would be in chess. Radahn is of the same position as Godfrey, always fighting in the vanguard (in lore, this is pretty much the main reason redmane soldiers respect him even after being zombified by rot) and his repertoir can have an effect across the battlefield, same as a queen piece. Miquella desires the position of god, same as his mother, and must be protected also at all costs, like the piece of the king does.
@@Mikael_Ore Yeah I know the lore too, which is why I still think the lore should be the main focus for the pieces instead of just sheer gameplay. Like considering that this new chess set is pretty much designed to be the “counter” or “reflection” to the first one, making the Godfrey vs Radahn and Marika vs Miquella a thing is just way cooler than Godfrey vs Miquella and Marika vs Radahn. It just makes more sense since Godfrey and Marika are the king and queen pieces respectively.
@LegoM12 except you missed the Queen Marika being god. In lore kings and queens have the positions reversed and as it is god has superiority to consorts for obvious reasons, I didn't mention gameplay either, we can see everything I mentioned in lore, and maybe I'm missing something, can you explain the Godfrey vs Miquella part? Because I don't see that happening with the current set
Sekiro pieces would be so cool! I could imagine owl, headless, monk, etc looking so badass. Alternatively dark souls has a lot to work with for flexibility
Sekiro is my favorite FromSoft game so that would be awesome. I have some ideas: Pawns: Ashina Samurai (there’s a lot of them) Rooks: maybe the Samurai generals? Knights: Gyoubu Oniwa (who else would it be?) Bishops: Corrupted Monk or Senpou Temple monks Queen: Divine Child (or maybe Emma) King: Isshin And for the other side you could do stuff like Owl for the king, Lady Butterfly for the queen, Kuro for the bishops, Blazing Bulls for the Knights, the Shinobi enemies in the endgame castle for the pawns, etc. and make it so each side is a different roster.
@@Rhyciz I'd suggest reversing Isshin and Kuro, with the Sword Saint as the Queen and the Divine Heir as the King, considering their places in the story. Edit: I just realised you meant the Divine Child of Senpou, but my original intent still applies.
I feel like the rennala/messmer comment meant more like one beeing the white square and the other beeing the black square bishop🤭. But tbh what ya gave us is soo much better 😂
King: Moon Presence or Rom or Mergo Queen: Gehrman Pawn: Yharnamite Beast or Rom baby spider Knight: Lady Maria Rook: The One Reborn Bishop: Mergo's Wet Nurse
I was apprehensive about seeing it being Messmer and Rellana as the Bishop but I actually agreed once I saw who you chose for the King and Queen. Suggestion for a new chess set is Hollow Knight. There's a lot of really wonderfully designed characters in it and it'd be a really cool chess set.
YES!!! The only thing is who to make the backline pieces. Obviously the pawns have to be the vessels (player character essentially for those not into the game). Pale King and White Lady feel obvious but what of the titular Hollow Knight or Dung Defender and his comrades in arms?
Absolutely awesome, gotta admit I wheezed when you showed Miquella next to Radahn at the end and it was a 5'11 vs 6 feet situation lol, maybe Miquella could be a lil smaller.
Custom rules for this set? If the King takes a piece it instead becomes his own and if you take the Queen, Miquella hugs him and they become a King with the Queen moveset
I would make the chess boards in 4x8 tile halves. With an interlocking mechanism on the innermost side, you could connect different expressions of Elden Rings many continents and distinct locations. One player could make his home in Caelid while the opposing side of the board could be inspired by the Ancient City of Nokron
I think it would be really awesome to make statuettes of some of the favorites from various Soulsborne games. The chess pieces are awesome, but by removing the limitations of having to fit on a tile, you could have more dynamic poses and flexibility. (just me over here pining for a post-seal Messmer statue or the Hoslow armor set 🙏😖🤞)
Miquella sitting on his own hair is genius. His hair has become such a meme because it blocks your view so the fact that he can just use it as a seat is so funny
I think a lot of characters overlap when it comes to which chess piece fits them best. You could pretty much make a chess set based entirely off Messmer forces alone, with with Messmer as King, rellana as queen and so on.
I fully intend to print these out in a few weeks/months. One of my friends has a 3D printer so all I'd need now is a chess board with a Lands Between/Realm of Shadow map watermarked onto a chess board (Zulie the Witch had a video with the maps combined, so I was thinking something similar to that).
Bro I've been wanting someone to turn it into a tabletop game. With various units would be so neat, take insane time, but would be amazing. Though this is absolutely beautiful my friend, just wanted to say that prior part.
Dark souls one chess set: pawn: hollowed warriors/soldier, knight: four kings, rook: artorias, bishop: nito, queen: bed of chaos/ witch of izalith, king: lord of fire guin.
Some alternative ideas for "king" and "queen" pieces: For a Dark Souls chess set, you could use twinkling lizards as the king (or for Elden Ring, scarabs). Y'know, since the king is supposed to avoid being caught. Alternatively, Marika makes a perfect "king," with Radagon as the "queen." This is also a massive multi-layered lore reference. Could even make the base identical so that they're interchangeable. Y'know, since they're the same person. Side note, but Erdtree Avatars would make great rooks. They parallel furnace golems, and they're basically big sturdy trees.
Love this. This is absolutely fantastic and fascinating. I wish I had the patience to do a project like this. So, while I know you're probably burnt out from this project, and I know I could probably spend more than a minute thinking about a cool idea, I just have to suggest it - Can you please do a Bloodborne Chess Set? Why? Because is mother freaking Bloodborne, that's why. 👍
I'd love to see a Baldur's Gate set! Either the whole trilogy or just one of the games. Either way, the characters would make amazing chess pieces, imo. Aaaand with your Elden Ring chess set videos, I really wanna try some sculpting now lol
My own long list of ideas for From chess sets: I haven't played Demon's Souls, as I don't have a ps3 or 5, so... Dark Souls 1: -Pawn: one option is, of course, the Hollow soldiers, as they are the weakest soldier type enemies in the game, but a more lore thematic option would be the starting classes. The Chosen Undead is naught but a pawn in the gods' plan, after all. -Knight: lots of knights in Dark Souls, but the obvious choice is Sif. Not only is she a companion of the most accomplished Knight Artorias, she's a nimble, four legged animal, that jumps around just like a knight on the chessboard. -Bishop: some obvious choices would be Gwydolin or the Primordial Serpents, but I personally would go for the Silver Knight Archers. There's a meme in chess that Bishops are like snipers, and the Silver Knights share that distinction. -Rook: the Iron Knights, the Black Knights, Iron Tarkus, or the Iron Golem are all excellent candidates. But it has to be Havel the Rock. He's just too damn iconic. -Queen: Ornstein and Smough. Those two are, in my opinion, where the legends of the souls series' difficulty come from. What better for the most powerful piece? -King: Gywn, Lord of Cinder. He's the most important character in the series, the originator and first victim of the cycle that rules and dominates the world of Dark Souls. His power is vastly diminished when we face him, but his death is the end of the game. DLC: (Assuming seperate sets, as per Elden Ring): Pawn: Gardeners. These weird grass golem things are everywhere, and they're very weak. Alternatively, you could go for the mutated citizens or the Humanity phantoms. Knight: Artorias. Thematic with the base game, and he jumps around like an absolute madman. Bishop: Gough might be appropriate, for the sniper theme, or Ciaran, for an assassin style. I personally would go for the Abyss Sorcerors. Those guys can snipe you a mile away, and serve as a kind of priesthood for the beast below. Rook: the Stone Knights are the simple option, but I like the Chained Prisoner. That guy is really out of nowhere, and also kind of brutal. Queen: Manus, Father of the Abyss. The final boss of the DLC is the hardest in the entire game, a worthy queen piece. Alternatively, one COULD choose Kalameet, mightiest of the Ancient Dragons, and harbinger of disaster. (In that case, I think Manus should be King) King: Dusk. The sweet girl that we are there to save, spirited away by the Father of the Abyss. Dark Souls 2: -Pawn: kind of a difficult one. There are a lot of different fodder forces in Ds2, a lot of armies of different kings, as the story is about the damage that the cycle and curse started by Gwyn is causing. The Bearer of the Curse is not a pawn in this case, they came to the land of their own volition - but I'm getting off-topic. Hollow Soldiers are an option, or the Alonne Knights for a more distinctive choice- there certainly are a lot of them! -Knight: a lot of knights again. The Pursuer presents a clear option, or the Royal Rat Vanguard, to keep an animal theme. I'd go for the Dragonrider, astride a dragon, obviously. -Bishop: Nashandra is a manipulative advisor type, or perhaps the Scholar himself, Aldia. -Rook: the Giant Lord is a towering figure, with a mighty sword, fitting for a rook. Velstadt, as the Royal Aegis, also presents an option, or Throne Watcher and Defender. -Queen: really drawing a blank. Nashandra, maybe, although she can't be both Bishop and Queen. King: Vendrick. He's the king, he's withered and hollowed, he's a lot like Gwyn. DLC 1: Sunken King: (Three DLCs for DS2!) Pawn: the Drakeblood Knights. These guys are the cause of the ruin of the city, and still lurk about in the great pyramid. Not the most powerful bunch, but I thought they'd be more interesting than the stock Sanctum soldiers. Knight: one could make an argument for the Imperfect, as an animal choice. Bishop: not many choices here, though a good one would certainly be the Sanctum Mages. Rook: Ghost Warriors for the win. Best part of the DLC, and one of the most interesting enemy concepts in the series. Queen: Elana, the Squalid Queen. A shard of Manus, that represents his anger, and can summon a previous boss to make herself into one of the most challenging fights in the game- who else would it be? King: Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon. Shulva was built around the dragon, to honour it, to protect it. Sinh is the most important character in the DLC, and thus, a perfect King piece.
Adding the rest as replies. DS2 DLC 2: Iron King: Pawn: the Hollow Brume Soldiers are quite distinctive, with their broad axes. A funnier choice is the Barrel Hollows, who scuttle about hilariously, and can be manipulated into blowing themselves up and defeating enemies for you. Knight: no animals in the tower, but Sir Alonne was the most trusted knight of the Old Iron King, and I think he deserves a piece. Bishop: I'd go for the Possessed armour. The weirdest enemy in the DLC, by far. Rook: Smelter demon is an option. Though it's a main game boss, it also appears in the DLC, in blue raspberry form. Alternatively- the Smelter Golems that infest the tower are a good option. Queen: Fume Knight. The last guardian of the king's crown, and a brutal bossfight, Raime is perfect as the Queen. King: Nadalia, Bride of Ash. The most significant character in the DLC, her influence is felt throughout, through her idols. You never fight her, but you definitely know she's there.
DS2 DLC 3: Ivory King: Pawn: Frozen Soldier or Ice Golem. The most common forces of Eleum Loyce, with distinctive appearances. Knight: Aava. The king's pets are his most loyal servants, and as Saber-Tooth cats, they are very nimble and strong. Bishop: the Hooded sorcerors of Eleum Loyce are its approximate priesthood, so I'd pick them. Rook: either the armed Ramparts Golems, or the allied Loyce Knights are good picks. Queen: the Ivory King himself. Scorched by chaos, his soul consumed, yet his power is unabated. King: Alsanna. The smallest, weakest shard of Dark, that became the Ivory King's queen. He knew all along what she was, and loved her regardless, and for that she safeguards chaos forevermore. The Ivory King did everything he could to protect his city, his people, and his queen, so I feel that she would make the perfect piece for him to defend.
DS3 Base Game: Pawn: Thralls. These scampering bois are everywhere, and, while annoying, are little more than an underfoot nuisance. Knight: Abyss Watchers. The wannabe Artorias club are nimble and iconic, with their silly hats and paired greatsword/ dagger. Bishop: Deacons of the Deep. The only actual priesthood in the game, and they even have a sniping role once you get back to Anor Londo. Two alternatives are Aldrich, Saint of the Deep, or Pontiff Sulyvahn, both religious figures that are a significant part of the story. Rook: our stalwart foe, the biggest guy, Yhorm the Giant. Queen: Soul of Cinder, as the final dedender of the flame, or perhaps Nameless King, as the strongest boss. A choice that also fits well is Lorian, Elder Prince, who serves as the bodyguard of Lothric. King: Lothric, Younger Prince. The prince that should have become a Lord, but refused, preffering to let it all fade away to nothing. The man is perfect for the role, weak, yet vastly important.
DS3 DLC1 Ashes of Ariandel: Pawn: Followers of Farron. The first enemies of the DLC, that serve as its introduction. Wonderful cannon fodder. Knight: the Corvian Knights. They jump all over the place and are generally really annoying- perfect. Bishop: I like the tree women that shoot fire at you. Not very religious-y, but certainly interesting and spoopy. Rook: the Millwood Knights. Sturdy, and they even guard a tower! Queen: Blackflame Friede, and never has there been a choice so obvious. King: while some might go for Father Ariandel, I would pick the Painter, the little girl that Gael does everything, including both finding us and going off to get the freaking Dark Soul, for.
DS3 DLC 2 Ringed City: Pawn: Murkmen. Similar to the Followers, they serve as your first intro to the DLC, and are both weak and numerous. Knight: Ringed Knights- an iconic design, and a brutally tough enemy with a lot of pazzaz. Another option would be the Harald Knights. Bishop: the Locust Preachers. Horrifying, and religious-y. Rook: Judicators. Tall af, and incredibly deadly with their simmons. Queen: who else but Midir, the hardest fight in Dark Souls (arguably)? King: Slave Knight Gael. Winner of both Coolest Fromsoft Character and Best Uncle to Ever Live awards, Gael is deserving of all the crowns he can get. He's not really weak enough to be a king piece, but he's so important to the lore that I think I can ignore that.
your modeling skill is so great man.. i wish I could do that... how much its take time to 1 model in this video? and what is best way to learn modeling bigginer blender user
It depends on the character, but the whole set took around 100 hours. So on average each piece took around 17 hours. Blender can be pretty complicated, so I would recommend to start with a Beginner tutorial. There are quite a few out there, so you can choose which one you like most. :)

Ima ask for Shogi Set once more
I'd love to see a Baldur's Gate set! Either the whole trilogy or just one of the games. Either way, the characters would make amazing chess pieces, imo.
Aaaand with your Elden Ring chess set videos, I really wanna try some sculpting now lol
Do something with cosmic garou, love your videos ❤
When I realized you were using FDM instead of SLA I was SHOCKED
Dark souls next? Please
Midra as king woul be the single best creation in mkdern history ngl...
My own long list of ideas for From chess sets:
I haven't played Demon's Souls, as I don't have a ps3 or 5, so...
Dark Souls 1:
-Pawn: one option is, of course, the Hollow soldiers, as they are the weakest soldier type enemies in the game, but a more lore thematic option would be the starting classes.
DLC:
(Assuming seperate sets, as per Elden Ring):
Pawn: Gardeners.
(In that case, I think Manus should be King)
King: Dusk. The sweet girl that we are there to save, spirited away by the Father of the Abyss.
Dark Souls 2:
-Pawn: kind of a difficult one.
DLC 1: Sunken King:
(Three DLCs for DS2!)
Pawn: the Drakeblood Knights.
DS2 DLC 2: Iron King:
Pawn: the Hollow Brume Soldiers are quite distinctive, with their broad axes.
DS2 DLC 3: Ivory King:
Pawn: Frozen Soldier or Ice Golem.
DS3 Base Game:
Pawn: Thralls.
DS3 DLC1 Ashes of Ariandel:
Pawn: Followers of Farron.
DS3 DLC 2 Ringed City:
Pawn: Murkmen.
He's not really weak enough to be a king piece, but he's so important to the lore that I think I can ignore that.
a Netflix Arcane chess set, with it being piltover vs zaun
Amazing content!!
your modeling skill is so great man.. i wish I could do that... how much its take time to 1 model in this video? and what is best way to learn modeling bigginer blender user
It depends on the character, but the whole set took around 100 hours. So on average each piece took around 17 hours. Blender can be pretty complicated, so I would recommend to start with a Beginner tutorial. There are quite a few out there, so you can choose which one you like most. :)
