My 08 bmw x5 show transmission malfunction. Once I start the car it refuses to shift to drive it jump to park. It does the same thing when I put the car in reverse it jump into park.. it does it repeatedly for a whole and then it will go into drive... some how it drive normal for a little while then the transmission doesn't shift into the right gear sometime and it show transmission malfunction. Problem if you take it to a shop they going to say that you need to rebuild your trasmision. Yes is not a big job for someone that knows how to work on cars and have tools.

Hello everyone, my wife's 2015 x3 28d had a drive-train malfunction last Saturday. She came of the hwy and as she was turning right the car jerked twice and then lost power. She pulled over and shut it off. Waited 5 minutes and restarted it. Motor was fine but she could not select gears just stayed in park. Now it got towed to Kingston BMW and they diagnosed it as it needs a new transmission at 15k plus 2500 labour and taxes on top of that. Now the car has never showed any transmission problems until that day. I tried to find out from the service manager to see what part of the trans is faulty but he refused to tell me or they do not know what exactly the problem is. I also requested that he sends me the diag results which i just got today after complaining to BMW Canada about the situation. I suggested there must be another option because i do not have 20k to spend. I bought the car last year in January with 136k kms for 20k and in August the egr cooler caught on fire and the car was at Otto's BMW in Ottawa for the whole month of August. Which they had to replace the whole top-end of the motor because of the damage from the fire. Which BMW covered 100%. Now 8 months later the trans goes out. I kept on asking the service manager to see if there is another option like replacing the part that's faulty or rebuilding it. He just kept on saying the test says the trans have to be replaced with a new one. He also mentioned that they cannot code a used trans because i suggested that and he said they tried one last year and they could not code it so they had to put a new mechatronic unit at the customers expense which was 6k. As of today they still did not tell me what exactly is wrong with the transmission. So i finally got the diag results which is 11 pages. Not sure if any of you guys know how to read them. Any help would be great. I cant post the PDF here or maybe reply to this comment if you would be able to help in finding out what could be the issue. I have worked on cars all my life built motors, turbos and worked mostly on manual trans but i have no idea on all the new electronics crap. I ended up towing the car back to the dealership where i bought the car which is not a BMW dealer and they said will have a look and see what they can do. No it does not need trans, it may just need trans fluid or or the part this guy's talking about, if the car isn't getting enough voltage, may need battery but what I'd do is change trans fluid, pan (check oil) It's BMW dealers job to tell you the worst thing, it's how they make their dirty money. In mean time, put key in but don't start, hold gas pedal to floor for 45-60 secs and it will restart transmission, then start car back up, if that don't work take neg off terminal for few mins to restart computer and then hook it up tight an start car but these are troubleshooting the problems not fixing it, so fix other parts asap so you don't run into more future problems... It may be better to get car in working shape and trading it in. if u got a manual trans u wouldn't come across alot these problems bc only auto on bmw has the transmission failsafe, me myself won't get another auto but I do love bmw's, it's all about maintenance an how well previous owner took care of it.. ppl say they unreliable but I blame it on previous owner neglect

A bit to late, but i had the same problem. It was the screw on the gearbox for the emergency release of the parking lock. This screw turned upwards by itself and permanently blocked the parking lock lever. The screw must only protrude 1mm and must be secured. Greetings from germany

Dears, My vehicle is a 2012 BMW X5 e70 model. Transmission is ZF 8hp70 model. When the vehicle warms up and I am stuck in a traffic jam, it jumps from 1st gear to 2nd gear while doing stop and go. Sometimes the error appears on the screen. When I stop the vehicle and start it again, the error disappears from the screen. However, this happens occasionally when I am stuck in a traffic jam. Is this solution suitable for this problem? Has anyone experienced this?

All three that I replaced were 2007 and 2008 3.0L engine. Please check with the BMW dealer. They will give you right part number based on you VIN number.

Even when I gave them the part number of valve body adapter like you share in this video, they told me it is not compatible with my car. It has been two months since the car broke down and no mechanic is willing to take the job replacing the valve body adapter.
My issue was that egr coller was leaking, egr valve stuck and pressure leaks in turbos. Now its working because i got rid of that thing and chenged it to a working Volvo :)

If your a BMW owner you need a BMW specific scan tool. The Ancel BM700 does all that you’d need for any BMW. **But I’d do a reset of adaptions that easy. Reset all Adaptions. **

Problem if you take it to a shop they going to say that you need to rebuild your trasmision. Yes is not a big job for someone that knows how to work on cars and have tools.
So buy the part and pay the to change it out. Simple. You tell the mechanic what you want done and its done

It could be. Check the gearbox oil level too
You forgot to mention the 4 valve seal sleeves since you got mechatronics/valvebody out

Shifter solenoid is the most suspected part. Have you tried to read the code?

My 1015, X5 xdrive35i is starting to shift a little hard as it shifts on normal driving. Does this fix on the video fix this situation?

Wuold this be a fix for rough downshifts? Mine does a bang when shifting 6 to 5
That’s sounds like you need solenoid replacement. You can get a set of them FCPEURO OR ECS
Also you can do this service too all together

Can you see the parking pawl if you remove the pan?
Yes you will see the parking pawl because it connects the mechatronics
That part, 24 34 7 588 727, is listed for a E53 E63 E65 not an E70. Are you sure you did this on an E70?
Most E70's has the ZF 8-speed.

I have bmw e60 530i 2010 i m facing an issue when whenever i start my car the gear is engage with propeler shaft and the car is getting little jerk after start then its become ok
And this happen only when i start after giving gap 5 to 10 minute ‘ if i will start and stop same time then no issue
Please let me know if you have solution for it
If your a BMW owner you need a BMW specific scan tool. The Ancel BM700 does all that you’d need for any BMW.

Hi i have peoblem in my bmw x5 3.0 diesel 2005 M-sport whith gear box somtimes is losing the speeding and is saying transmission fail safty after have ti stop switchit off and on agen to work no from today is working only in first gear and second gear ic can help me what to do thanks

Hi. I didn't do it myself. Take it to the transmission specialist and explain what you want him to do
I performed the repair my self with all precautions needed. After repair I have done 1800 kms .. my car is doing well and am happy for that . Thanks to AUTODOC. #autodoc
