  • I could live with this issue, but it is so annoying.
    The error code that I pulled for this was 00A82E. Also, after driving in Sports the gear selector (shifter) failed to spring back into parking.

    I have the same noise for a year, it would come and go, hot weather made it worse. I think I have a fix, its been working perfectly for a week now after the work I did, cost nothing, now let's get down to what I did 1. you have to remove the trim and remove the shifter, check u-tube as how to do this, it is very easy and takes less than 10 mins to remove. only tools needed are star sockets and a putty knife or something thin to pry (pop) the trim. 2. disconnect the 3 connectors to the 3 units, one of them you will need a small screwdriver or a ball point pen to push the little tab on the connector to unplug it, the other one you have to press both sides of the connect to release it and the 3rd one should just pull out. 3. the 1st part of the fix is to remove each connector and plug it back in 5 times to clean the male and female part of the connector this makes the connection work better as over time the parts become corroded. 4 the main cause... once you remove the shifter items out of the way. you will notice tape on the wires some of the tape used is rubber Electrical Tape. but the main problem is the heavy cloth tape which become very stiff over time ( my 2012 X5 twin turbo ) remove all the tape both electrical tape and the cloth tape as far down as you can. you will see the cloth tape is wrapped around all the wires before it splits, to each connector. after its all removed use electric tape and tape the 3 bunches of wires and down to where they come together. Lighty tape them so they are flexible you don't need a lot of tape on the wires. if it's to stiff it causes pressure on the connectors, causing them to lose connection off and on, this along with corroded connectors over time, this is my take on the problem. after I completed this fix, it feels more firm and the noise has completely disappeared, keep you fingers crossed.

    My motor is broken. If I can't find the replacement motor I'm just going to remove it or disable it where it's always in sport option. (means I have to manually move back when parking)

    Do you have to program the shifter after installing a used one?

      @EliteBimmers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it’s plug and play. No coding or programming required.

    So you changed selector for the sound to go away? Or how this thingy is called ? 😅

    I had the exact same issue with just one click sound after I put to P. I have the same error code in Carly. Its been going on from over a year. Should I just ignore it or replace the gear selector eventually?

      I drove mine for several months with this and other than annoying sound it doesn’t do anything. I guess it’s safe to drive. I replaced it because I was preparing the vehicle for sale.

      @@EliteBimmers Thanks. I plan to replace it eventually but dont want to do it right now. Your video is really helpful as none of the Bimmer forums have similar topic. I am not a DIY guy but looking at your video it doesnt seem too hard. Did you ever get limp mode warning on Parking? I got once 2 days ago but not since then.

      Thank you for your feedback! It is very easy. Just be careful with black trim around the whole housing. On the driver's side, it is kinda narrow. Can be broken. And it is over $100 to replace.
      Did not have a limp mode with that car. It is possible that can be related to the gear selector.

      @@EliteBimmers Thanks. I will probably get an Indy to replace the unit. Just an FYI. When I put the parking brakes and then shift the gear to Park I don't hear that clicking sound.

    Can you take a look at my video I uploaded, I’m having similar issues with my shifter making weird noise (clicking). My transmission is good too I know because it shifts perfectly before my shifter got stuck in “P”

      Watched.
      Do you have a BMW scanner to read codes? When my E70 trany was making weird sounds I had codes for the shifter.
      Most likely the whole thing will need to be replaced.

    That problem costs 10e

    • @EliteBimmers
      @EliteBimmers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that's what I read/hear but no one explains how to fix it for $10/10euros. Would be nice if someone shared a video or tutorial on how it's done.

    Why not used from local yard?

    • @EliteBimmers
      @EliteBimmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the area where I live now, local junkyards are very limited on BMW parts. They would order it from their network yard somewhere on the east coast and it would be the same time and the same cost as eBay.
      For Subaru and Toyota Portland area local yards are awesome:)) but that's a totally different forum:)
