  • Here's a quick video about a common failure part, the 5015 Layer fan. I even managed to salvage the old part.... sort of.

Totally worth the time. There are moments when that fan could become priceless, despite best planning and maintenance practices. Now you have that niche solution ready for quick deployment. If it happened once, it’ll likely happen again.
And it just seems wrong to not print the simple plastic part while surrounded by printers 😏.

Completely worth the time. I just had a very similar issue when replacing my hotend. Snapped the wire for the fan loose. It will take two days for a new one to arrive. (It's currently 7pm so nothing is shipping out tonight.) I'll spend the couple hours soldering and replacing (and hopefully not breaking parts.)

You're welcome! I intend to make one every time something breaks on my farm. Hopefully over time I'll cover most of the failures encountered, and how to fix them. Glad you enjoyed it!

I add connectors at the hot end for everything. Makes maintenance very quick and easy

That is the one printer fire I've had in 6 years. I put my velleman hotend wires (MOLEX x 4) on a quick disconnect, and the resistance across the connection generated enough heat to burn up the 14 GA molex pins. Luckily, the molex connectors were spec'd to be self extinguishing, so It didn't burn long. From then on out, I'll only do direct connect only on high current lines.

@@3DPrintedDebris wow I’ve never had that happen. Good to know.

Fo rme it's not just the $6 - in Canada where I am it's $10.99 - but the shipping! It's $10 to ship the $10.99 part... so I add more items to teh cart to offset the shipping. Now I'm up to $84 and all I wanted was a fan. So I am watching your video and realized maybe I can fix it too. Ok you didn't fair so well but I can learn from your mistakes (thanks :-)

I've been on a kick lately to prevent anything from heading to the landfill. It's just not a sustainable model unless the waste streams are managed.

Hi, Derek. I have "print garden" of 2 MK3S' and an Ender 3. Two questions: 1) What spare parts would you recommend I keep on hand for my Prusas? 2) Will you ever do a MK3S maintenance video like you did for the Mini?

This is a common problem with 3D Printers, and likely this will be the first replacement action taken against a Prusa i3 MK3S+.
