I’d have to think about where I’d rank this game, but I could easily see it in my top 10 of all time. My brother & I played the heck out of this game… over and over, to see who could get the most gold medals. This is coming from someone who plays far more modern games than retro games.
This was amazing. Even though I started watching towards the end and didn't start from the beginning of this 5:44:56 livestream. I'm happy to see such a classic TH-camr livestream one for the coolest Nintendo 64 games of all time. Cool video. ^_^
Yeah some people tend to write off the N64 because the graphics seem very outdated, but its got quite a few goodies. I liked that Snowboard Kids game you played too. Great stream Mike!
After watching the underwater segment again, it seems like every time there's a torpedo in play, the area does illuminate. It doesn't seem consistent though. Some areas don't illuminate entirely. Only parts of the area illuminate, like rock formations you need to maneuver around. But in the final boss, every time a torpedo was on the screen, you could definitely see a little bit more. If there was no torpedo, it was just completely black. The devs should have done more to make the change more consistent and obvious.
Bro bro. Dood. Bro. I got it. I got the answer for 1:45:00. Why don't they just fly around to the end? I saw this in an anime called Saiyuki Journey West. They have a Goddess literally watching their entire adventure from the Buddhist Heaven and they have to travel to the West to some place. They take a car. And she is asked by someone, her attendant or something, because she can just pop in and out from there to where-ever they are, whenever she wants. So she's asked why she doesn't just teleport them to their destination? She just laughs and says "Because this way is much more entertaining" There was also a skit at the end of one episode where they imaging the group just sitting on a train, the protagonist reading a newspaper and why not just take a train? It's a short skit but it's just a joke and the same reason comes up. It's less entertaining.
I remember the one and only time I beat this game's hard mode and saw the true ending; a feat that to this day I have never done again. I must have been in the zone, because I remember blowing my way through that brain like I could do no wrong. But for some reason, I just could never managed it a second time.
There are classics on the N64 that didn't have a true equivalent on the competing consoles in the mid to late 90's. I still wonder what could have been if the Nintendo Playstation happened, but Nintendo broke new ground with the N64, despite the limitations of the cartridge.
Do you remember the game you were playing when you left the room mad and came back as Sylvester Stallone? I laughed so hard, I was in tears. I'd really like to see that one again. Thanks for all the laughs.
I hadn't been interested in playing this game again until I checked out this VOD other day, so this stream got me back into playing a classic. I had forgotten how fun this game could be. There's something about the SNES game I always sort of liked better even though this seems like an improvement. I guess the former always had sort of a simplistic charm for me. I think I liked its music better, too. Of course, that's not to say (or type) that this isn't an awesome game, too ;)
I've played this since I was 12 (which helped engrave the basic mechanics into my brain) & got all the medals on both normal & hard mode semi-recently so watching Mike relearn the game, especially missing opportunities to use the charge shot at the start or using the charge's lock-on for bombs, is unreasonably buttblasting me; especially knowing I couldn't be there to pester him about it in the chat (I was one of the people who kept telling him to go back to SF64 to begin with). wish Twitch notifications were more reliable!
speaking of special Fist of the North Star controls search "Fighting Mania Fist of the North Star Arcade Machine" for a special treat. imagine that with proper animation, head explosions & everything
also a cool detail about Starfox 64 is they heavily imply through in-game dialogue that only Fox & his dad can do the C-stick flip moves, which is why your friends need help when they're being chased & can't just escape easily. fuck my ass I wish I was there to say all this in real time
But didn't Peppy do a somersault at 5:17, which requires the C button? I could believe Peppy could've learned it since he was part of the Star Fox team with James but never did for some reason.
For starters move the 64 around on the start screen My guess is on the train depot a teammate shot the switch maybe Miraculously a few times they bring down a member of star wolf
Ahhh, I love this game! Such a shame Zero was a flop...Starlink is the best game Fox has appeared in since way back. I wonder if Mike would consider playing it, I know he's more into retro games...🤔
The N64 was a good console. I'm not saying PS1 was trash, but IMO spec wise all it had over N64 was the CD drive, and better sound chip. I think developers at that time fooled slot of gamers with the PS1 FMV, thinking the actual gameplay was going to look like that until the gameplay began, then we were like oh...oh...there's a reason why game developers and companies now have to put that disclaimer that the videos they make to show off the game might not be how the game ends up looking
I love that I think you look better in a tank , why don't you come down here Falco, I'll pass fox lol this game was great back in the day, still good today.
Mike, if you search "Mike Matei diablo 2" you'll see that you've already streamed the game. Just an fyi. When you stream it again, because you obviously want to, don't say it's the first time you're streaming Diablo 2.
Mike, you misunderstood the invoice. that's the star fox's teams invoice to the cornerian goverment for services rendereed. I.E. your score and how many bad guys you blew up.
While I like watching Mike play all sorts of games, it is especially fun if it is a game I owned and played myself. The only thing I can remember annoying me about Star Fox 64 was when you played the multiplayer with two or three players, you still would get a four-way split screen (with the non-player screens being used for camera angles and stuff). Always preferred how they did it with Goldeneye multiplayer personally. There are actually some things I forgot about this game (probably because not having played it for over 20 years now and becoming good at the end) like I didn't know that it was a No Continue, No Passwords, No Save (well, except for the medals) game. Mainly because by the end I could even fly the hard path without dying once, having memorized the courses and such. I always found it stupid that the middle path had to be accessed from the easy or hard path and was not a single solitary path like it was in the original Star Fox. Nevertheless, I still have very fond memories of this game and it was definitely among my favorite N64 games (not that the amount of N64 games I had even went into the two-digit area). Game that is missing from your Games I've Beaten On Stream list: -The Legend of Zelda: Allhallows Eve (...not sure where to put it since you don't have a SNES Hacks/Homebrews/Unreleased section. Maybe a good starting point to open up that section? :))
wow the zoness boss fight was really annoying to watch. come on it's really not that hard. just listen to your wingmen - they are telling you what to do
I love how this game has "crash directly into a building" forgiveness.
One of my first games ever. Ah, the memories of me playing it when I came home from Kindergarten.
Love the memories playing this game with friends in middle school.
"Hey, Einstein!
I'm on your side!"
I like when he moves the facecam to point at stuff it feels more like I'm in the room hanging out lol
1:53:36 His bomb hit the 7th switch offscreen on Macbeth. You can hear it click. Lucky.
i know, it took me a 3 rewatches to catch that
Thanks for helping relive my teenage years.
I still have this game and beaten it 100%.

I think the only people who write off the N64 are people who haven’t been around when it released. It was a golden era
1:07:14 Can we get a Doom mod where every time a demon is killed or the player dies, it does a unique Mike scream!
Mike I know how much you love anniversaries! Happy 30th Star Fox! 🎉🥳 🎂
1:02:50-1:09:38 Also everything before and after this time stamp.
Miyamoto REALLY likes these disembodied head/hands boss fights.
Taking us back to the past!
To play the epic games that kick ass!
N64🔥
Yes.
Love your Sewer Surfin' cover during the Excitebike 64-themed intermission, if only that was a separate video.
You know you can set their language to Lylat in the setting and they speak originally again.
Have you heard of a game called Mouse that's coming out in 2025? It's a FPS with 1930s style animation graphics.
Shutup
Looks awesome
Barrel Roll!
3:15:47 Peppy tells you what to do here, and there is visual indication of damage being dealt via the exhaust pipes shaking when you bomb them.
The game was tough for me but I remember loving that stone runner boss when I first encountered him back in the day.
As i recall you beat the game correctly with mission accomplished, otherwise it says mission complete.

I was not expecting such entertainment from the break video.
This game was amazing . Now I have it on switch.

I must have been in the zone, because I remember blowing my way through that brain like I could do no wrong. But for some reason, I just could never managed it a second time.
I loved this game as a kid! One of the best N64 games for sure.
There are classics on the N64 that didn't have a true equivalent on the competing consoles in the mid to late 90's. I still wonder what could have been if the Nintendo Playstation happened, but Nintendo broke new ground with the N64, despite the limitations of the cartridge.
Was this played on the Mister?
Hi Mike, are you emulating or are you playing the original one?
Have a feeling it is an ever drive cart or something, but in a genuine N64. He’s definitely playing through the actual legit console.
n64 console. YPbPr mod
got this for xmas with a n64 i had to wait cause i needed the rf adaptor didnt have right inputs on the tv
John Hammond: Damn!
Do you remember the game you were playing when you left the room mad and came back as Sylvester Stallone? I laughed so hard, I was in tears. I'd really like to see that one again. Thanks for all the laughs.
Now I'm looking for that video, that was hilarious.
The video is the haunting starring polterguy, jump to 20:30 for the mask.
Love the interlude about puting back and balls.

5 hours of mike Matei. Ill listen to this while sleeping on my trip
He is awesome I listen to him all the time.
what if the narration for new technology being unlocked in civilization 4 wasn't spock, instead was chekhov
Its crazy how you can lose a lot in a tiny amount of time in this game lol

The StarLink Ar-Wing statue is not too bad...it also does something for a game on Switch
Sometimes I wonder how smooth Mike's brain is.
I need that put me back song, I couldn't find it
Awesome video Mike!
Literally never met anyone that dislikes this game whatsoever.
do a barrel roll do a barrel roll
Oh yes one my fav games ever beat it so many times
I like taking the path that gets both allies in the ending
For starters move the 64 around on the start screen
My guess is on the train depot a teammate shot the switch maybe

I bought the Japanese version before the US version was available. The voices in the Japanese version are great but I can't understand a word of it.
Imagine if some idiots actually sent in money to Nintendo after getting the invoice at the end lol.
Btiught the classic backs Mike have this finshed it it was a good day in gaming when ipkayed it in 1997
Since you hate Falco, he's been reincarnated as one of the champions in Zelda Breath of the Wild. He's just as much as a jerk, if not worse.

The music for SF64 is garbage. The original rocked out especially Corneria level.
